Being in control

"I'm saying we need a new plan," Derek said, walking toward the decaying train, Scott and I following. "Because next time one of us is going to be to hurt to survive," he said, glancing at me, worry evident in his eyes.

"I get it," Scott said as Derek sat on one of the seats, Scott leaning against a bar. Derek wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me onto his lap. "We can't save Jackson."

"Can't seem to kill him either," I added.

"I've seen a lot things Scott, but I've never seen anything like this," Derek said, his grip on me tightening, his fingers slipping underneath my shirt to press against my warm skin.

"Then how do we stop him?" Scott asked.

Derek shook his head and shrugged. "I don't know. I don't even know if we can."

"Maybe we should just let the Argents handle it," Scott suggested.

"I'm the one who turned him," Derek said. "This is my fault."

"Yeah but you didn't turn him into this," Scott protested.

"It's not your fault," I added quietly, brushing some hair out of his face. His beautiful green eyes searched my face as if it held the answer to all of his problems. If only.

"This happened because of something in his past," Scott said.

"It's a legend in a book it's not that simple," Derek snapped.

"What do you mean? What are you not telling me?" Scott demanded.

"Why do you think I'm always keeping something from you?" Derek asked.

"Because you always are keeping something from me!" Scott shot back.

"Well maybe I do it to protect you," Derek said.

"Doesn't being part of your pack mean no more secrets?" Scott said. Derek sighed, resting his head on my shoulder but Scott was staring at me.

"Violet?" Scott prompted, knowing something was on my mind.

"We're looking at this wrong," I stated. Derek lifted his head.

"What do you mean?" He asked. I stood up, pulling myself from his grip, staring at the floor as I began to chew a nail.

"We're trying to stop him," I said. "But that's not what we need to do. We need to help him."

"Violet what are you talking about?" Scott asked.

"Jackson's meant to be a werewolf but he's not because he never had parents to love him. Not his real parents anyway. For him to become a werewolf he just needs somebody to love him," I pointed out. "And who loves him more-"

Scott sighed. "Than Lydia."

-O-

"Allison's. 5 minutes," was all Lydia said when I answered the phone before she hung up. I sighed, running a hand over my face and stood up, pulling on a sweater before jogging downstairs.

"Hey Stiles!" I called.

"Yeah?" He called back.

"Drop me to Allison's will you?" I asked. He sighed and walked out, swinging his keys around his fingers.

"If I do will you break up with Derek?" He shot back. I let out an annoyed breath and rolled my eyes before going behind him and beginning to push him out the door.

"I cannot wait to get my licence."

.

"How many outfits do you plan on wearing tonight?" I questioned, looking at all the Macy bags Lydia had brought over.

"It's my birthday party," Lydia smiled. "I'm thinking host dress, evening dress then after hours, casual."

I snorted in amusement.

"I noticed you didn't send out any invites," Allison said.

"It's the biggest party of the year Allison," Lydia said tightly. "Everyone knows."

"I was thinking if this year things might be..different," Allison said. I gave her a glare.

"Why would anything be different?" Lydia questioned.

"Just 'cause things have been off lately. Things and people. Like Jackson."

I jabbed Allison in the ribs causing her to glare at me.

"What do you care about Jackson?" Lydia asked.

Allison put on a quick fake smile and shrugged. "Do you know if he's coming tonight?"

"Everyone's coming," Lydia shot back. She shook it off quickly and held up a pretty tan dress. "This one's American Rag. Uh I love it! For me, not you guys." She held up a pretty floral dress. "This one's Material Girl. That's for you Allison," she smiled. Allison's mum knocked, walking in.

"Mrs Argent," Lydia turned to her, holding up a blue dress. "What do you think of this one?"

"Oh it's lovely," she smiled. "Allison, can I grab you for a moment to talk? Just the two of us?"

"Um, can we do it later?" Allison asked.

"Actually to be honest sooner, would be better," she said, rubbing her shoulder.

"Party's at ten," Lydia added.

"Oh you'll be around before then?" Mrs Argent asked.

"I think so," Allison confirmed.

"You think so?"

"I don't know," Allison said, getting impatient. Her mum nodded walking away, although pausing at the doorway to look at us.

"And this one's for you Violet," she said, holding up a beautiful strapless pale cream, almost white, lace floral material dress that synched at the waist with crystal studs before flowing out and curling at the ends (Pic in profile). It was beautiful but I didn't really do dresses.

"I-I have to wear a dress?" I questioned. Lydia sighed.

"Violet, you looked stunning the night at the formal. Why don't you wear dresses more often?" Lydia asked.

"Because-…they aren't practical…?" I shrugged. Lydia stuffed it in my arms.

"Just wear it."

-O-

"What you doing?" I asked, leaning against Stiles door frame as he flicked through a yearbook.

"Uh homework," he lied. I rolled my eyes.

"Looking for a pattern?" I questioned. He nodded. I sighed and pulled the book from his hands.

"They brought Harris in for questioning," Stiles said.

"They think he did it?" I said as I flicked through the pages.

"Yup. Dad just told me," Stiles replied.

I stopped at a page, looking at the names before handing the book back to Stiles.

"They were all on the swim team," I stated. Stiles gaped at me before turning his eyes down to the open book.

"How did you-?…How didn't I notice that?" He asked. I shrugged. "You couldn't have looked at this earlier and figured it out?"

"Sorry," I said.

.

I stared at my reflection in the middle, sighing in annoyance as my hair fell down my shoulders again.

"Want some help?" A voice asked behind me. I flinched slightly, turning to see Derek leaning against the doorframe. I raised my eyebrows.

"What are you a hairdresser?" I asked. He shrugged and walked over to me, grabbing my shoulders and pushing me into my desk chair, now unable to see my reflection. He grabbed a brush and some bobby pins and with surprisingly gentle fingers, began braiding and twisting my hair. When he was done he turned the chair around.

I smiled softly at my reflection. My hair was beautiful and intricately twisted before going into a low bun at the base of my neck. It looked beautiful. (Pic in profile.)

"How…?" I trailed off, looking at Derek in wonder.

"I used to do my little sister Cora's hair. Laura taught me to braid," he replied to my half spoken question. I smiled softly and stood up, wrapping my arms around his waist. "You look really beautiful," he murmured. I bit my lip. "I have to go. Full moon tonight. I have to lock up the betas."

"I love you," I said. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as if he couldn't quite understand the concept of someone else loving him. To me, it was simple. "I do," I insisted. "And…I think, besides my family, you're the first person I have loved."

He skimmed his thumb over my lips before tenderly reaching down and kissing them.

"I won't be the last," he promised me before disappearing, leaving me to wonder what he meant.

-O-

"Hey," I said, walking up to Stiles, Scott and Allison at Lydia's deserted party.

"Jackson's not here," Allison said.

"Yeah, nobody's here," Scott agreed.

"Maybe because Lydia's turned into the town whack job," Stiles pointed out.

"Well we have to do something because we've completely ignored her for the past two weeks," Allison said.

"She's completely ignored Stiles for the past 10 years," Scott shot back. I bit my lip. I could practically taste the tension between the two.

"I prefer thinking of it as me not having been on her radar," Stiles said. Scott shrugged, shaking his head.

"We don't owe her a party," he said.

"What about the chance to get back to normal?" Allison asked.

"Normal?" Scott questioned.

"Well she wouldn't be the town whack job if it wasn't for us," Allison said. My eyebrows shot up.

"Us?" I questioned. "You mean Peter."

They ignored me.

"I guess I could use my lacrosse co-captain status to get the lacrosse team here," Scott sighed.

"Yeah I also know some people who can get this thing going," Stiles said, digging in his pocket for his phone. "Like really going."

"Who?"

"I met them the other night. Let's just say they know how to party," he replied. I rolled my eyes.

Oh god.

.

Lydia stuffed a glass of punch in my hand before floating off. I sighed, taking a reluctant sip. It tasted surprisingly nice.

"Are you going to apologise to Allison or what?" I asked Scott.

"Why should I apologise?" Scott questioned, completely oblivious. I sighed in annoyance.

"Because you're the guy. It's like what we do,'' Stiles replied.

"But I didn't do anything wrong," Scott protested.

''You're joking right?" I questioned.

"Then you should definitely apologise. See anytime a guy thinks he hasn't done anything wrong means he's definitely done something wrong," Stiles explained. Scott shook his head a little.

"I'm not apologising," Scott said. I studied him. He'd changed a lot. He'd grown as a person. A couple of months ago he would have been over there, begging for Allison's forgiveness and now he sat here not even talking to her. He was more selfless and selfish at the same time.

"Jackson's here," i stated. Scott stood up, staring over at Jackson.

.

"How do you not feel this?" Isaac demanded as Derek did up his chains.

"I feel every second of it," Derek snapped back.

"Then how do you control it?"

"Find an anchor. Something meaningful to you. Bind yourself to it, keep the human side in control," Derek explained.

"What is it for you?" Isaac asked. Derek was quiet for a moment.

"Violet," he answered. "But it wasn't always. It used to be anger."

"What happens when it changes?" Isaac said.

"You change," Derek responded, straightening up. He didn't say anything more.

.

I turned around when I heard growling behind me. The sight that met me made my glass slip from my hand, shattering on the floor. Derek stood, his eyes red with a clawed hand around Stiles' throat, Stiles back to him. I gasped, taking a step forward.

"Derek what are you doing?" I demanded, stumbling when someone pushed past me. Derek growled again before ripping Stiles' throat out, blood splattering everywhere. I gasped, cupping my mouth to prevent a scream as darkness began invading my vision. It suddenly felt like I couldn't breath, like I was drowning in the air. I gasped for breath as a slow smirk spread along Derek's face.

"Violet?"

"Violet are you ok?"

Stiles shook me and suddenly I snapped back to reality. With a blink of my eyes, air was heaved into my lungs and Derek was gone, Stiles body as well.

"Hey you alright?" Stiles asked. I took in a deep gulp of air and nodded.

"I'm fine."

.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion as I saw Lydia slip into her jacket and grab her car keys. She disappeared out the front door. Ditching your own party…?

My eyes wandered over all the dancing and squirming bodies before landing on Matt. I bit my lip, pulling out my phone and pulling up a video that was linked to a CCTV camera. I scrolled through the dates to the last full moon and selected the camera closest to Jackson's house. I'd already watched a camera that filmed Jackson's house that night when we first found out it was Jackson, but this time I chose a camera on the far side of the house. A car was parked out the front, but it wasn't Jackson's. I zoomed in and sighed.

It was Matt.

Quickly locking my phone I rushed through the crowd, pushing past people.

"Scott!" I called out. "Scott!" I spotted him and Stiles and rushed up to them. "It's Matt," I gasped out.

"What?"

"The kanima controller! Matt! That's who it is!" I shouted, rushed for them to understand.

"How do you know?" Scott asked.

"I just do ok?!" I said. Scott nodded, trusting me. Suddenly sirens began blaring.

"Cops are here! Party's over!" Someone shouted. We were swept up in the crowd, rushed outside as screams and shouts of people panicking surrounded us. Once we were outside I spotted Matt between the crowd. The kanima, Jackson, was beside him, tail wrapped around Matt's legs. I gasped.

"Scott," i murmured. He looked over and his mouth dropped a little. In the blink of an eye, they were gone.

.

"Trust me, dad won't want you involved in this. Go to your room and we'll explain it to him," Stiles said before sighing. "Or, some of it."

I bit my lip in indecision.

"Go," Scott nodded to Stiles, placing his hand on my back and leading me into my room as Stiles went to grab dad. We sat down on my bed, quiet for a moment. "What did you see tonight?" He asked. My eyes snapped to him, questioning him silently. "There was something in the punch I think," he explained.

"Derek," I replied.

"You're scared of Derek?" Scott asked, confused swirling in his voice. I shot him a withering look.

"No," I said, possibly to quickly. Scott picked up on the blip in my heartbeat. I needed to learned how to lie better.

"Why are you scared of Derek?" Scott demanded. "Did he hurt you?" He immediately jumped to the worst conclusion. I rolled my eyes, flopping back onto the bed.

"Of course he didn't hurt me," I said. "I just-…"

"What?" Scott prompted me.

"He has all this power and…I don't think he knows what to do with it. I'm not afraid of him now…I'm afraid of what he could become," i said. Scott sighed, slipping his hand into mine.

"I don't trust Derek but I know you do. And I trust you. Just…make sure you're doing the right thing, for yourself," he gave me a small smile and pressed his lips to my forehead before standing and walking out the door.

I let my hair down, running my fingers through the long brown strands before showering.

"We're going to the police station!" Stiles called out.

"Can I come?" I called back, already knowing the answer.

"You should be asleep missy! Bed now!" My dad called back. I sighed in annoyance, listening to the thud as the front door closed. I got into my pyjamas but knew I wouldn't be able to sleep, instead deciding on sitting on my bed and worrying my bottom lip.

.

I wasn't sure when, but I must have dozed off because I was woken abruptly to an alarm. I shook my head and looked over to see my phone flashing. I scrambled to grab it and unlocked it. The alarm at the police station was going off. I had my phone linked to all the alarms like the school, my house, the police station, just in case one went off and I needed to know about it. Like now.

I leaped up, pulling my clothes off and changing into black tights and a shirt before running downstairs, jumping onto my bike and pedalling as hard as I could. I got there quicker than probably should have been possible. My heart sped up when i heard gun fire and shouts. I ran in through a back door, racing through the dark halls.

"Violet?" A voice called behind me. I spun around and saw Allison, a crossbow in her hands.

"Allison?" I questioned. She looked different, harder somehow. Angrier. "What the hell is going on? What are you doing?"

"Go home," she commanded.

"What? What happened?" I asked.

"Derek killed my mother. Now I'm going to kill him," she stated. I choked.

"He what?" I gasped.

"He bit her and she was forced to kill herself," Allison replied, her eyes watering for a moment before turning hard again.

"I-…" How hadn't I known this? How had I missed it? "He didn't mean to. He-he wouldn't have," i said. "Please don't. Please Allison."

"Just-..go home," she said, brushing past me. "Stay out of this." Were her last words before disappearing. I took in a breath, ignoring the tears that burnt my eyes.

I raced through the halls and skidded to a stop when I saw Melissa locked in a cell and Matt, raising a gun and smashing my father of the head. I yelped, cupping my mouth with my hands.

I slipped out my knife and went to run at Matt but the kanima bowled me over. I fell to the floor, the air rushing out of my lungs but managed to drive my knife through the kanima. I ripped it out and went to stab it again when it was tackled off of me by Derek, wolfed out.

"Violet go!" Derek shouted, his voice sounding lower than usual. I took in a deep breath before racing out.

"Scott?" I shouted and he appeared.

"What are you doing here?" he demanded.

"Go help Derek," i said, ignoring his question. He gave me a worried look but complied, rushing past me. I turned around the corner, crossing my arms over my chest as Gerard walked up to me.

"You're a little young to be apart of all of this, aren't you?" he asked, smirking ever so lightly.

"And you're a little old, aren't you?" I shot back. His smirk grew.

"I hear you're somewhat involved with Derek. That's not going to be very good when Allison kills him," He said. My jaw tightened and I gulped.

"She's not touching him," I shot back.

"We'll see about that," he said, brushing past me. I knocked him slightly before bending down to pick up a little container with pills inside.

"You dropped this," I said. He snatched it off me, narrowing his eyes before disappearing. I bit my lip and kept running through hallways, now looking for my brother.

"Stiles!" I called. "Stiles!" I looked around frantically.

"Violet!" Derek rushed up to me. "What the hell are you doing here? Sc-"

"I can't find Stiles," i gasped, my eyes wide with terror.

"He was paralysed by the kanima poison," Derek said. "He couldn't have gone far." He grabbed my hand and we began looking through the halls again, but still couldn't find him.

"What if Matt took him?" I asked.

"Why would Matt take him?" Derek said. I shrugged.

"I don't know! He's a psychopath!" I threw my arms up. We went back into the room and saw Scott desperately trying to calm his mum down. I rushed over to my dad, crouching beside him and shook him gently.

"Dad?" i asked, fighting off tears. He slowly came back to consciousness just as other police officers began filtering in. I had no idea how we were going to explain all of this.

.

"But if Matt's dead then…" i trailed off. "I have to go," i said. Derek, Scott and I stood in my room but now I grabbed my jacket slipping it on.

"What?" Scott grabbed my arm. "Where?"

"I just do ok? I'll call you when I've figured out who took Stiles. Try and get a lock on his scent and track him," i commanded. Derek gave me a worried look and I grabbed his hand, kissing it before turning and sprinting downstairs. I slipped out the door silently and jumped on my bike.

.

I glanced around me, checking there was no-one around, before slipping a key out of my pocket and into the lock of a tacky looking shed. I pulled open the door to reveal it empty, but it didn't faze me. I closed the door behind me and walked over to a trap door in the ground, yanking it up and open. I hurried down the couple of steps into a crisp, white room. Nine computers were spaced around the room along with dozens and dozens of other electrical devices. I suppose this was what you would call my 'lair'. It was where I got all my information from. I had computers hooked up to every CCTV and security camera in town, all of my friends phones, I had small speakers all over town connected back to here so I always knew what was going on. So I was always in control.

I switched on two computers and began typing away, my fingers moving swiftly over the keys.

"What can I help you with?" A computerised voice said. I'd transferred Siri onto my computers and re-programmed it a bit to suit me better.

"I need all the footage from Beacon Hills Police Station tonight from 2:30AM till 4:00 AM," I said, not looking up from where I was typing on another computer. Siri began searching through the files from the security cameras from tonight and four videos popped up, each with footage from different cameras. I scrolled through quickly, fast forwarding most of it, now getting a better understanding of what actually happened. I was nearing the end of the footage when something caught my eye. I gasped and jumped up.

"Close down computers," i yelled to Siri behind me as I ran up the steps. I quickly hurried out of the shed, locking it behind me and jumping on my bike. I pulled out my phone and dialled Scott.

"Violet?"

"Gerard has Stiles."
