Chapter 9-School

The summer holiday's passed quickly. Lucy spent her time doing chores on the farm, drawing, writing letters, spending time with Jack and playing games with the Smiths.

She liked the Smiths and had begun to see them as close friends. the day before the holidays ended Mrs Smith had come to Lucy's room. She knocked on the door and Lucy answered.

"Hello Mrs Smith, come on,"

Mrs smith walked into the newly decorated room. The walls were painted a turquoise blue, the colour of the sea.

"What can I do for you Mrs Smith?" Lucy enquired.

"As you know, schools start tomorrow," Lucy nodded, "You need to go to school so we have enrolled you to the school n the village. We have got you the uniform and you will start tomorrow," Mrs Smith finished. Lucy was exited, she couldn't wait.

After lunch Lucy went over to Mrs Plummer's house. It was exactly like the Professor's. She knocked on the door and waited.

After a few moment's Jack answered the door.

"Hello Lucy," he said with a grin, "Come in,"

Lucy walked over the threshold. She loved this house, it reminded her of Narnia. An old woman came down the stairs.

"Hello Mrs Plummer," Lucy greeted.

"How many times have I told you Lucy, call me Aunt Polly."

"Yes Aunt Polly," Lucy said then turned her attention to Jack, "So Jack want to go for a walk?"

Jack looked to Polly who nodded.

"Yeah, let's go," Jack replied. He got his shoes on and grabbed his coat and they started walking to the lake.

"So school starts tomorrow,"Lucy said.

"Yeah, Aunt Polly signed me up to the local one in the village."

"Same."

"Great at least I'll know one person tomorrow," Lucy nodded, she didn't want to have to go to a new school by herself.

The birds chirped as the sun rose, naturally Lucy was already up and in her new school uniform. It was a red and blue one.

Navy blue jacket with a red hemming, grey dress, white shirt, red and blue tie, black tights and black shoes.

She went downstairs for breakfast and was greeted by Mrs Smith and Sophie.

"Good morning Lucy,"

"Good morning Mrs Smith, Sophie,"

Lucy sat down at the table ready for breakfast. After a few minutes Mr smith walked in.

"Morning everyone," he greeted cheerfully. He walked over to Mrs Smith, kissed her and then over to Sophie and kissed her on the forehead.

"Morning mr Smith," Lucy said smiling at him.

"Morning lucy, you do look smart," he said, implying her new school uniform.

"Thank you," she said.

They all say down for breakfast.

Just when Lucy was finishing there was a knock at the door. Mr Smith went to answer it.

"Oh hello Jack, here to see Lucy I suppose?"

"Yes, sir."

"Come on in then," Jack walked into the kitchen closely followed by mr Smith.

"Hello, Mrs Smith, Sophie. Lucy I was wondering whether you would like to walk to school with me?"

"I'd love to," Lucy replied, she had already finished her breakfast, "May I?" She asked Mr Smith.

"Of coarse," he replied. Lucy and jack started to walk to the door.

"See you later Lucy!"

"Bye," She called back as she closed the front door.

"I wonder what our class will be like," Jack pondered aloud.

"Yes, i hope they're nice."

When they reached the school gates they saw loads of children in the same uniform as them. They walked in and the children stared at them.

"I suspect they don't get many new pupils," Jack whispered to Lucy.

"No, I don't think they do especially at our age."

They continued walking into the school building. It was not that big, it only had one floor.

On their way they spotted an adult who looked like a teacher.

"Hello miss," Lucy started.

The woman looked at he.

"Hello, young child," she replied. Lucy hayed being called young child.

"My friend and I are new to this school and I was wondering whether you could point us in the direction of the Headmasters office."

THe woman continued to look at Lucy and the finally responded.

"Yes certainly dear, would you like me to take you there?"

Lucy and Jack nodded.

"Well then follow me. I am Mrs Jenkins the teacher for Year 4. How old are you two?"

"We are both 10 miss," Jack piped up.

"Well you'll both be in Year 5 then won't you?"

They nodded again.

"Good, good, here we are." She motioned towards a door with the writing Headmaster A.J. Foster.

she knocked on the door for them.

"Come in!" A male voice exclaimed.

Lucy opened the door and she and Jack nervously walked in.

A man in his 60's with a near bald head was sitting behind a desk. He looked like a kind old man, he was smiling at them.

"You must be Jack Stalder and Lucy Pevensie."

"Yes Sir," they replied in unison.

"Ah well then, please take a seat," They sat down, "Well where are you both from?"

"I am from Finchley, sir, in London."

"I am from Edinburgh, sir."

"Well, from opposite ends of the country. Have you two met before?"

"Yes, Sir"

"Good, good. So you will both be in Year 5. Yes, good. Well your teacher will be Mr Fitzgerald, I shall show you to your classroom,"

With that they stood up and he showed the two ten year olds out of his room and down the corridor to a classroom with the words 'Year 5' on the door.
