As they walked the moonlight in silence,

Their aching hearts split worlds apart,

They were joined by their shadowed silhouettes,

which, connected, danced along…

Forms united clear and strong,

Gave them counsel in their night.

Chapter 10

Total darkness.

To say she was shocked and scared was an understatement. Caroline could see absolutely nothing. Nothing at all. She was standing in the middle of the road in darkness and God knew that she was terrified of it.

"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god," she chanted in fear and shock. Her car, her beloved car was gone. And she wasn't going to get it back. No, that wasn't even what she was worrying about. They were stranded in the middle of nowhere and it was dark. How were they going to see without light? And Klaus... where the hell was Klaus? One minute he was holding her, and the next she didn't feel his hands anymore. Caroline used her hands to search for him in the darkness, but she could not find him and her fear increased. She felt a little bit safe with him earlier, and now that she couldn't find him...

"Klaus!" she screamed her lungs out. "Klaus! Where are you, Klaus?!"

"Hey, hey, I'm right here, alright?" She heard his voice behind her and suddenly his hands were on her shoulders, shaking her. Convinced that it was him, though she couldn't stop herself from reaching out and pulled him closer to her, burying her face in his chest. Klaus stiffened and awkwardly patted her on the back. He wasn't used to this. It was new to him and he really didn't want her this close. He gently lifted her head from his chest and pushed her back a little bit, never taking his hands off her shoulders incase she started screaming.

It was then he remembered the lighter in his pants pocket and quickly took it out, lighting it on. The moment he lifted the lighter close to their faces, her eyes were already fixed on him and Klaus frowned when he saw the state she was in. His eyes softened, but immediately hardened when he remembered whose fault it was that they were here in this situation in the first place.

"Klaus," she murmured. "this can't be happening. What are we going to do?"

He sneered and drew back. "What are we going to do?" he repeated coldly. "I don't bloody know what we are going to do, Caroline. After all, this is all your fault."

She looked at him in disbelief. "My fault? How can this be my fault? You pulled me out of the car yourself! You could have warned me you were going to do that or else I would have applied a break!" she shouted angrily. She knew he was going to blame her for this. If it was her fault, it was his as well. She wasn't going to stand there and let him blame her alone. "Besides, why do you get to be angry? It is my car. I should be the one to get mad, not you."

Her car.

Here he was, worried about how he was going to get to Mystic Falls now, but the woman was worried about her damn car. And she thought she was supposed to be angry? His clenched his left fist. Had his money not been stolen, he wouldn't get worried for a bit about getting stuck, but it had happen. Thomas would already be gone with his money before they get to Mystic Falls and didn't want to think about Mikael's reaction when he find out.

"Fuck!" he roared, wishing that there was something he could smash his fists into. He needed to call someone for help. He couldn't just do nothing and wait for a miracle to happen, which he doubt will. His phone. Where the bloody hell was his phone? Klaus checked both his pockets but couldn't find it. He tightened his lips when he remembered leaving it in the car. Wonderful. Just wonderful. He should probably not get worried. Caroline must have hers with her.

Though in this situation, she found herself amused, watching Klaus' expressions changed every minute. He was more freaked out than her and she wanted to know what was his problem. But yeah, she wasn't going to do that. Knowing him, he would just take it out on her again and honestly, she was on the verge of hiting him. Truly she was always fantasising about her fists on his perfect face. Wait. Did she just say perfect face? She must really be so tired and crazy if she thought that. Caroline shook her head, disgusted.

"Where's your phone," Klaus asked sharply. She raised an eyebrow in question, keeping quiet until he explained why he wanted her phone. He sighed in annoyance. "I need to call for help, Caroline. Give it to me."

"I would give it to you if I had my phone with me, Klaus." She let out a deep sigh. "I left it back at my place." She looked around, taking in their surroundings. They were in the middle of an empty road. Behind them was a large forest which seemed to carry on for miles and then the cliff where her car had drove off. Great, absolutely great, she thought. There was fourty percent chance that a car would drive by and help them. She turned to Klaus who seemed like in a deep thought. "Do you have any idea where we might be?" She hope that he knew.

"I'm not sure where exactly," he responded.

"Not sure?" she asked in disbelief. "You were driving. How could you not know?!"

He glared at her. "Because I have never taken a shortcut to Mystic Falls."

"Mystic Falls," she repeated. "We were going to Mystic Falls?"

"Are going, Caroline."

"What do you mean are going? In case it has slipped your notice, we don't have a car," she said in a duh tone. He stared at her without a word and Caroline's eyes widened in realisation. "No way!" she shouted. "No, Klaus, just no. You're crazy."

"I'm not asking you to walk with me to Mystic Falls. You can stay here and wait for help. I'm going."

She narrowed her eyes in his direction. Out of all the people she could get stuck with, it had to be him! He had to be joking. He wanted to walk to Mystic Falls. Walk. He didn't even have a clue where they actually were or how many hours it would take to get there. He wouldn't think about all these things. His only goal was to get there and it didn't matter to him how impossible it was.

"You can't leave me here alone in the dark."

Klaus raised an eyebrow in question. "Is that it? You are afraid of the dark?" When she remained quiet, he sighed and took it as a yes. Turning around, he started heading towards the direction of the forest. Caroline thinking that he was leaving her suddenly tensed up, as she watched him go. Then she couldn't see her surroundings anymore.

"Klaus!" she yelled. "Where are you going?!"

"Just hold on there for a minute, okay? I will be right back!" She heard him yell back. Caroline hugged herself and waited in the cold night. She was annoyed that she hadn't had time to change her clothes after dining with Enzo. Oh. Enzo. She missed him. She knew if he was stuck with her, he would have treated her so much better than Klaus. He wouldn't leave her for a second. And Klaus, would he even come back for her? Should she trust his words that he would?

Ten minutes of standing there felt like one hour and it didn't help that she was feeling so cold and scared. Caroline had already given up that Klaus wasn't going to come back. Was he laughing at the moment? Rejoicing over the fact that he tricked and left her waiting?

She saw something - a light heading towards her. Shw wasn't sure who was coming, but she was really happy they did. Maye they could give her a jacket and perhaps some water, because she was really tasty. Caroline could make out the shadow of the guy walking closer and closer to her. She realised that the light was a torch and when she opened her mouth to say something to this person, she stopped upon seeing that it was no one but Klaus. He didn't leave?!

"You thought I left, didn't you?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. Caroline had always thought wrong about him, just like how she had thought he had left her. As if he would be able to do that. He had forced her to come with him, did she really think he would leave her out here? Did she think he was that heartless? It was because of her he had to go into the forest. He had to endure a few scratches and constant worry that he wouldn't be able to find her where he had left her. If he had known she was thinking the worse of him, he would have left like she thought he had, he thought angrily. He grabbed her hand and placed another torch on her palm.

Caroline looked down and stared at it before looking up. "Where did you get these?" she asked suspiciously, finding it strange.

Klaus rolled his eyes. "Someone was camping in the forest and the torches were just laying there," he explained with a shrug. Why was he even explaining this to her?

"So you stole them?" she accused.

His eyes flashed dangerously. "I didn't stole them, Caroline." How dare she think he could stoop so low? He was Klaus Mikaelson. He didn't steal and he certainly wouldn't steal something as stupid as a torch.

Caroline raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?" She had to stop. Baiting him wasn't such a good idea at all, but she couldn't find it in her to stop. "And what do you call taking something without the person knowing, hmm?"

Rage slowly built inside of him. She should be glad that she was a woman or she would have actually regretted it for calling him a thief. He gave her one last glare before he turned around and started walking away. That woman! A simple thank you would suffice, but no! She would rather pass him off after doing such a nice thing for her. Damn her. He expected her to follow him, he really did, but when he turned around, he saw her heading to the forest.

Klaus watched her dissappear into the large forest and even if he could barely stand the girl, he couldn't let her go alone. He cursed as he followed closely behind her.

Caroline walked deep into the forest. If Klaus took the torches from a campsite, then there must be people around who would be able to give her shelter for the night. And it was possible they would have a phone with them. She quickened her pace, trying to get there as soon as possible. She thought about him. Did he know she was gone? She should really stop thinking about someone who could care less about her and focused more on where she was going.

Glancing behind her, her heart sank. There wasn't anyone following her and she was really hoping that he was. While looking, she stumbled forward. She put her foot forward to steady herself, but there was nothing there but a deep cliff. Caroline tried to regain her balance but lost her footing and was pushed forward instead. A small yelp escaped her mouth and she closed her eyes, waiting for the fall.

Rough hands grabbed her from behind and pulled her back up, fastening her to a hard chest. Her ragged breaths were calming and her pulse steadied. She turned and saw clear blue eyes looking down on her with a glinting hint of worry. Caroline wrapped her arms around his waist. He was definitely going to hold this against her but right now she really didn't care.

"You're not gone for ten minutes and look at the trouble you have gotten yourself into," Klaus said angrily, though he wrapped his arms around hers. It felt nice to be really hugged right now even if that person was Klaus. She looked up into his eyes and even though he was frowning, his eyes held some seriousness, and that was all she needed.

"Let's just go," she mumbled into his chest, still in shock. Caroline thought of how he had saved her. How did he know where she was? He wasn't there when she looked around. He let her go when he was sure she was alright. Caroline looked down at her shoes and muttered, "Thanks." She was thanking him for the torch and for saving her life. When she looked up, she could have sworn she saw a hint of a smile on his face.

They waited for a few minutes before she started heading back to the road. She didn't want to be in the forest anymore. If he wanted to walk to Mystic Falls, she wouldn't argue about it, she would follow him. Arguing wasn't getting them anywhere. They had already wasted almost an hour and something told her they wouldn't get anywhere if more time was wasted.

"Wait." She stopped in her tracks when she heard his voice. Not turning around, she waited for him to continue. "If you want to check out the campsite, you can go. I saw something in the sky and it looked like smoke." He looked up and his eyes landed on the faded gray smoke that remained in the sky. "There it is. We're close."

She looked up at the sky before her eyes landed on his again. She had no idea why he wanted them to check it out, but she wasn't going to complain. She smiled. "They might have a phone we can use to call for help," Caroline said in a hopeful tone, earning her a shrug from him. She started to walk away whilst running her hand through her hair. "Klaus, you coming?" She called from over her shoulder.

"I'll wait here," he responded, watching her walk away.

The smell of smoke lingered in the air heavily. The first thing she saw was a campfire and two massively huge men sitting on a log, roasting a marshmallow. Caroline gulped before she started walking towards them. The men raised their heads up when they saw her and smiled.

"You lost, dearie?" The bald one asked, flashing her a weird grin. They both stood up, towering over her.

"Um..um-" she stammered, trying to calm her racing heart. "Could you please lend me your phone? My car drove off a cliff and I really need to call for help."

"Of course, we've a phone here," the dark haired one said, pulling a phone out from his pocket. "We would be happy to help you." The men shared a creepy smile as they both started walking close to her.

"Um..um thanks." Caroline started moving backwards until her back hit a tree. Her eyes widened when they were close to her. The dark haired one handed her the phone. Her hand shaking, she took it from him, aware that his hands brushed against hers beforw he grabbed it tightly in his and wouldn't let it go. She started struggling to get her hands free but it was impossible. "Let me go. Let me go!" she shouted, hoping that it would scare them off.

"I don't think I can let you go." The dark haired man chuckled and looked at his friend. Using that opportunity, she bit his hand hard and the moment he cried out and let her go, Caroline suddenly started running, but she didn't get very far for a hand closed around her shoulder. The force of his grasp spun her around and truly frightened her. She began to fight like a wild creature, her fists plummeting against his broad chest, her feet kicking against his shins. The dark haired man caught her about the waist and threw her over his shoulder knocking the breath out of her casing a brief moment when everything went blank. As her gaze cleared, she caught her breath with a sob of half anger, half fear. She began to struggle and fight, her fingers clawing and her body twisting, trying desperately to escape him. It was no use, his big body pinned hers to the ground making her attempts of escape futile.

"Hold her legs, Kane," the dark haired man ordered the bald man. The man-Kane held her legs that was trashing around. When Caroline felt Kane caressing her legs, she screamed loudly, hoping to God that someone had heard her. She was openly sobbing, regretting ever coming here. Please God, help me. She was about to get raped by two men and she didn't think she would be able to live if they succeeded. When she screamed again, the dark haired man slapped her hard across the face, leaving a big red mark on her cheek.

Suddenly, their bodies were thrown off of her and she sighed in relief when she was met with Klaus' angry face. If she wasn't laying on the ground, she would have stumbled in fear at the expression on his face. His eyes had completely darkened and he was shaking in rage when he saw her on the ground with a red mark on her cheek and her tears. Caroline gulped.

He whirled around and slammed his fists into the dark haired man's face. The man stumbled backwards but before he could get his barring, Klaus' left fists slammed into his stomach. He groaned and that noise only infuriated Klaus more. Kane creeped up behind and before she could warn him, Klaus turned around and held his wrist as he twisted it.

Kane let out a cry.

Something fierce and primitive gripped Caroline's core and she was on her feet with a silent 'no!' the instant the dark haired man rammed a hit into Klaus' ribcage. He was slammed so hard she could hear the breath take out of him. Her insides seized in dread when he recovered easily and her heart didn't stop pounding in her chest. She bit her lip when she watched him land a set of perfect punches to Kane's face that knocked him out cold. Out of nowhere, she felt a hand wrapped around her neck and she let out a squeal, catching Klaus' attention. He made a move towards them, but the dark haired man tightened his hold on her neck, making her choke.

That fucking hurts.

He spit out blood. "Don't step any closer or I'll kill her," he warned. Caroline's eyes widened in fear at his threat. Klaus stopped walking, fearing for her life.

"Let. her. go." Each words was colder than ever. Klaus clenched his bloody fists, shooting him a dark look. She sent him a pleading look, but he ignored her. "Don't make me repeat it."

"You don't scare Dice, tough guy," The dark haired man-Dice said with a roar of laughter. "You might have knocked Kane here into unconscious, but you won't succeed with me, unless you want this beauty to fall into sleep forever." He used his other hand to caress her cheek, making her shiver in disgust.

"Don't touch her," Klaus hissed out, his eyes flashing. But Dice ignored him and continued caressing her cheek and he even had the guts to kiss her neck. "I SAID DON'T TOUCH HER!" Klaus roared, shocking both her and Dice.

The next thing she knew, she was moved out of the way and Klaus pounced on Dice. He punched him so hard that she heard his nose broke. She winced when Dice punched him on the lips. Klaus' head swung and she saw drops of blood splattered at his feet and heard herself say 'no' softly. He straightened once more, licking the blood from his cut lips. She was scared and worried. All she knew was that every punch Dice landed on him, she felt it inside her. When he slammed Klaus' side once more and he dropped to one knee, a scream was torn out of her.

A ragged breath of relief left her when she jumped back up and wiped the blood from his lips, his eyes flicked in her direction before he repeatedly threw a punch at Dice. Even when he fell to the ground and lost conscious, Klaus didn't stop hitting him over and over. Blood was everywhere and Caroline felt like throwing up. She realised that he wasn't going to stop and if she didn't step in, he would actually kill Dice.

"Klaus!" she shouted as she tried to pull his hands away. "Stop it, you're going to kill him! Stop it!" That scream seemed to snap him out of it and he straightened up, wiping his hands on his pants. They stared at each other without saying a word. Klaus glanced at her clothes that was torn a little. He frowned, took his Henly off and offered it to her, leaving him shirtless. Before she could protest, he walked past her. Annoyed, she turned to glare at him, but noticed the five men standing in front of them.

Holy Shit.

They looked at Dice and Kane that were laying on the ground unconscious, then fixed their angry faces on them. Klaus turned around so quickly and grabbed her hand, holding it tightly in his, before he mouthed 'run' at her.

And run they did.

I tried to make this chapter great but it was impossible? Next update will be next year of course, so I should say this cause I won't get a chance. MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Have a good one!
