Chapter 10! Woo!

IMPORTANT - I'm leaving the poll up for Harry's relationship status in this fic up for another week, just so you guys know I am going to have him be straight if yes he ships with someone, simply because I stink at writing romance in general, so a) it's going to be extremely slow and b) I'm more comforatable writing mxf so I'd rather do that than have him with another dude. I'm not against LBGT+, I just have a hard time writing it. (unless it's warrior cats, I've got a really cute couple I'm working on over on ChickenSmoothie, but humans? Nope)

ALSO IMPORTANT - After Chapter 11 (which will be time skip to lady iko's arrival) this fic will be going on a brief hiatus while I re-build up my muse for this fic. I've already gotten part of it planned out so that's why I say after. The hiatus will likely last two or three weeks, no longer than four.

Yeah especially since ears (and tails) tend to have minds of their owns, but Snapes got really good mental control so its easier for him to keep his new limbs under control.

On to the fic!

Hermione opened the door to the library and peered inside. It was almost completely empty, Tyona was seated near the front, and Madam Pinch was nowhere in sight. As the door opened, Tyona looked up, and the hawk-woman smiled as she saw Hermione. "There you are! Is dinner over already? I'll have to grab a snack later. For now, well...I've been going through my hoard." she let out a rasping laugh as she waved to the pile of gems taking over the table before her.

"Come, sit!" Tyona invited. Hermione crossed over to the table, and took a seat across from the hawk. "Now then, stone magic can be pretty difficult, but once learned it can become one of the most common magics you use, even more often than Accio I'd wager." Hermione tilted her head, but before she could ask, Tyona seemed to pick up on it and continued "This is because Stone Magic is so complicated, that few bother to learn it, those that do are highly revered, and often make quite a bit of gold by making custom enchanted jewelry for clients. I've met a few who use their craft like a normal jewelry store, you go in, pick out whichever one suits you, buy it and leave, but in my experience that's not a good idea."

Hermione frowned "But isn't that essentially what you did for Harry? You just gave him a bracelet you'd already made." Tyona smiled "You're smart girl, that gives me hope about this lesson. Now, that is true, I did give Harry a pre-made bracelet, while usually I prefer several days notice before giving a client a set of stones. However, the bracelet I gave Harry, I made several hundred of when I learned that I would be joining the Animai coming here. Each of them has their own quirks, and I spoke to Milo, one of the healers, and chose one of those bracelets to give him. After that I worked on some other sets that would work for him, and when he returned I gave him one of those."

Hermione nodded slowly, and Tyona continued "Now then, how far did you get in that book I gave you?" Hermione felt the corners of her lips twitch upwards as she replied "I've finished it."

Tyona arched an eyebrow "Really? Well then, that speeds things up immensely. In that case, we'll be starting right off with the stones, I know the book covered the basics, but sometimes its better to get some hands on experience."

As the show finished, Harry clapped his hands together, which made each member of the coil beam. Likai slithered forwards, and the rest began to disperse into groups of two, heading towards the castle, the lake, and the forest. Tali nodded to Harry and said "If you are ever in need of a sane snake, seek me out." she then half bowed, and turned and made her way towards the castle.

Likai, who had heard her words, rolled his eyes "More like if he ever wants to hang around a boring snake." he called after his sister's retreating form, before turning to Harry and Ron. "So, what did you two think?" Harry smiled "It was a good show."

Ron nodded "Throwing each other up into the air was a great trick." he said, tail flicking from side to side as he spoke. Likai beamed "We've been working on that one for quite some time, we plan to introduce it into our regular show next month, but as with all tricks, we needed to show it to someone who's not in our Coil and biased." he laughed, then continued "So, now that the show is complete, young No-Coil, do you wish to do some more training? I can't promise any tricks, but if you'd like to learn some basics-"

"Actually," Harry interrupted, before Likai could get it in his head that Harry wanted to learn how to backflip the second day with his tail, "I just wanted to learn some more...basic maneuvers, and tips for moving into different positions, it took me forever last night to figure out how to haul myself into my bed."

Likai tapped his forefinger into the air "Ah well now that's your first problem, most Animai don't sleep in human beds, and those that do are the ones with basic limbs, different ears, but think about it for a moment, a quadruped, sleeping in a bed?" he shook his head "No, unfortunately young Harry, you are going to need to alter your sleeping patterns." he hummed, thinking. "Actually, you may need to change a few things, travel time for one, is going to take much less time, as you can slither as fast as a human can run, with half the effort, so you can account for that if you are ever running late by human standards. Another thing could be-"

"Likai," Harry said, trying to get the snake back on track "Sleeping habits." Likai blinked, snapped his fingers and said "Right, sorry." he clapped his hands together, then said "Alright, each Coil is different of course, I can't speak for the Hitai Coil, mainly because they're all a group of farmers so we don't have much interaction with them, but my coil sleeps like this." he then proceeded to coil his tail together, lowering his body and wrapping his tail around his chest and arms, until only his head was peeking out, resting between two loops of tail. "It can be tricky to get out of, and it will definitely take some practice to get into, but I've found it's one of the more comfortable ways to sleep. Much better than lying with your tail spread out flat for sure."

Harry nodded, making a mental note to attempt the position that night. "So just on the ground wherever?" Likai shot upright, uncoiling himself in what looked like a miniature tornado. "By the great serpent's fangs no!" he yelped "You'll ruin your tail by putting all your weight on a single position like that overnight, why do you think snakes writhe their tails? It's to keep themselves from ruining their bodies! But unlike normal snakes who can coil over each other, Animai snakes more weight on their upper body, so we need to have something soft underneath us if we're going to be in the same position for over three hours. I'd recommend making a nest out of your blankets. In a pinch you can sleep on bare ground, but unless it's incredibly soft, mushy ground, you should only do it in extreme emergencies. Otherwise, take the time to make a nest with whatever you can find that's soft. Your scales will thank you."
