A/N- Soooo I missed most of it because I had duty rounds. I got on tumblr, and oh... sweet heavens, there was an explosion. OH MY GOD, 10-78 fangirl down. It looks fantastic. I might see it tomorrow after I get home (break starts and I'm driving home-home). I'm sorry that I'm always "well, I missed this ep, so..." Thank yew all so very, very much!
Update- I rewrote some, because I feel like I wandered off the fine line that is canon haha, and I want to keep this going pretty close to that line. Fun nonetheless, though (;
Rusty glanced over Buzz's shoulder and caught a glimpse of something he had definitely never seen before. He blinked, trying to clear his vision. He couldn't have seen right.
But then he caught Tao's eye, and the other man raised his eyebrows and grinned. Rusty shrugged in reply. No, I haven't seen Sharon kiss anyone before.
Sharon kissing.
Just the idea made him gag slightly. Sharon was perfectly nice, and Lieutenant Flynn was cool, but. . . they were, like. . . He snorted in amusement at his own thoughts. Sharon was his mother, now. It really was like watching his parents make out.
Not that he truly minded. Flynn had been over for dinner several times, and Sharon had been out for dinner, though at Flynn's house or a restaurant, Rusty didn't know.
She was always back at what she called a "respectable hour," which in Sharon-speak meant nine o'clock, or nine thirty at the latest. Maybe she was sneaking Flynn in after she knew her son was asleep.
Rusty really did gag at that thought. Not that it wasn't okay, because seriously, Sharon deserved some happiness, but. . . the whole parents thing again.
Sykes looked at him in mild concern. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Just. . . had to cough."
She didn't look convinced, but she went with him. "Okay. Don't keel over yet."
"I won't." He took a deep breath. It was none of his business, either way, and as long as it was kept at least somewhat quiet, he'd be fine.
Suddenly, Sharon was at his side. She touched his elbow. "Want to get some dinner? Your choice. I was thinking we could all go out as a group."
He stared at her for a moment, and she flushed under his gaze. This could be fun.
"Yes?" she asked. Her voice sounded slightly strained, and Rusty knew he'd be able to get some good milage out of the kiss.
"Nothing." He grinned at her. "Are you okay? Your face is kinda red."
If anything, she flushed hotter. "I'm fine, thank you for your concern. Now pick where you'd like to go."
"Do we need to develop a system?"
"What?" She looked genuinely confused.
"Like a sock on the door or something?" He had never seen her so uncomposed. He tried not to laugh.
"Rusty!" she yelped.
The others turned to look.
"Bothering your mom, already?" the judge asked. He had one eyebrow raised, and Rusty wasn't sure if he was joking or not. After a moment, the judge nodded to him. "Well done."
Sharon sighed in exasperation. "I can't have all of you ganging up on me."
"Flynn's on your side," Rusty told her.
"You've got one idiot ensnared already, Captain," Provenza said at the same time.
She shot them both dark looks. "Thank you for your support," she snarked. She looked down for a moment and smoothed her jacket out with one hand. "Shall we all go to that deli down the street from Parker Center? The one we can usually agree on? What is it called?"
"That Black Kilt place?" Rusty asked. Speaking of food, he was kinda hungry.
"Yes. Let's go." She stepped over to the door, looking almost like her usual stoic self. "You're more than welcome to join us, Your Honor." She opened the door and began pushing people into the hall."Come on." She pressed Amy and Buzz past. "Move, lieutenants." Provenza, Tao, and Flynn were herded past, too. As soon as she had pressed the last of her squad out, she turned and slammed the door shut, leaning against it. "What have I gotten myself into, Craig?"
The judge straightened his robes, where he'd hung them on their hook and turned to look at her. "In all the time I've known you, Sharon, you've always been in trouble. You aren't getting yourself into anything. You've been there the whole time."
She rolled her eyes. "Thank you."
He smiled slightly. "In all honesty, it looks like a good sort of trouble this time. He seems a good guy. A little hot-headed, maybe, but you know that."
She snorted. "Oh, yes." She jumped when someone pounded on the door. "I'm coming!"
"I'm guessing the kid doesn't know you've brought him around to your place already?" He had known her for decades, since law school, before she married the piece of crap that was Jack Raydor. He knew her well enough to read her better than most. He was grasping at straws slightly, but he felt fairly confident.
She blushed again. "No, because it isn't his business right now. Besides, nothing is happening. Honestly. You're as bad as Lieutenant Provenza. It's just an occasional movie."
He smiled as he walked over to join her. Ahhh. "My advice? Don't tell the kid. He looks to be as good as Emily at embarrassing you."
She laughed. "I'm scared of the day he meets her. I'm trusting Ricky to keep them under control."
The judge looked at her seriously as he opened the door for her. "Then you might consider separating them if Ricky's considered the best behaved of the lot."
"I'll take it under consideration," she said darkly.
Rusty looked at her. He hadn't expected her to say that, but it was the perfect opportunity. "What? The sock?"
Provenza snorted as he watched his captain turn bright red once again.
For once, everything had ended well.
