And I'm back! Ugh, studying gives me a headache…Anyway, I've managed to get this next chapter done.
ShadedEclipse: Thank you! As for your first suggestion…that might be good for a crack story, I'll admit. Maybe I'll star him in another story, though…And your second suggestion was a definite maybe, but you're right about Raoul. That being said, be sure to read the AN at the bottom to see what I'm planning to have you vote for instead.
Mirage Enamel: Thank you for your suggestion, but after some thinking, I'm changing the voting for the story. So please read the AN at the end to see how I changed it (hint: it still involves your suggestion).
With that being said, enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece.
Chapter 10
….Well, this was unexpected. Terra never thought that they would be able to catch a ride from a sea cow.
Long story short, when everyone gathered to eat the food Sanji prepared, this HUGE sea cow suddenly emerged from the sea and was eyeing their food. Terra, personally, thought it was a bit cute until Luffy hit it and it got made. He wasn't so cute anymore then.
After smacking him around, the four of them managed to rope the sea cow and it was now taking them to Arlong Park at a faster rate than they could have pulled off.
"I see Arlong Park!" yelled Luffy. And now they were going to charge in, kick ass, grab Nami, and leave.
…Or not. The cow decided to veer right, away from Arlong Park, and towards some cliffs. Of course, things could never be so simple or easy. At least with her, they weren't.
"Oh, crap….." In preparation for what might happen next, Terra decided to grab onto the railing.
Terra couldn't exactly say what happened next. All she knew was that one second, she was in a ship being pulled by a sea cow and surrounded by people screaming in her ear. The next, she was in a ship that was flying through the air…and was still surrounded by people screaming in her ear. Luffy was the only one who didn't seem concerned about how the hell they were going to land.
"Yahoo! We're flying!"
"This is not funny, moron!" yelled Sanji.
Terra hung onto the side while the ship crashed to the ground and sailed forward from the momentum they still had left. Guess who they saw as they were crashing?
"Hey! Zoro!" said Luffy. Yep, that poor bastard actually walked in front of them as they skid across the ground. His timing was impeccable, but downright unlucky.
They eventually stopped after trashing a rice patty field. Everyone was okay, even Zoro. But that ship wasn't going to see the ocean again.
"What the hell are you playing at?" yelled a pissed-off Zoro.
"We came to take Nami back with us. Did you find her? Where's Usopp and Johnny?" asked Luffy. Suddenly, as if remembering something, Zoro jumped up.
"Speaking of Usopp, I have to hurry now."
"What happened?" asked Terra.
"Arlong has captured him. If we don't hurry, he will be killed," explained Zoro. Terra nodded and was about to join him in a mad dash to Arlong Park when someone shouted out "HE WAS ALREADY KILLED!" Terra turned around to see Johnny, out of breath as though he'd been running.
"Brother Usopp was killed by Sister Nami!" Everyone met this news with varying degrees of shock. Terra, however, froze. For some reason, a chill ran down her spine. Just what was going on here?
"NAMI WOULD NEVER KILL USOPP! WE ARE FRIENDS!" Terra snapped out of her trance at the sound of Luffy's enraged voice. It took her a second to register what he said. He didn't believe Johnny?
Terra didn't know how to react to the news. She didn't really stay with them that long, so she couldn't say that she knew what to expect from Nami. But Nami didn't strike her as a person who could kill.
Terra didn't know what to think. But apparently Luffy did.
"Who is your friend, Luffy?" Everyone turned to see Nami standing right there, in the middle of the dirt road with her baton out. For some reason, one of her hands had a leather glove on it, but Terra didn't think of it as an important observation.
"What are you doing here?" asked Nami.
"Why are you asking? You are my friend, so I came to take you with us," said Luffy.
"You give me such a headache. Friend? Don't make me laugh. All you need is just someone who can give you a hand. Am I right?" asked Nami in a flat tone. Terra frowned. This was not the person she sailed with for the past several days.
"I told you that this is an evil-hearted woman! In order to get all the treasure underneath her hometown, she joined Arlong and is willing to kill anyone! She is a cold-blooded witch!" yelled Johnny.
While Johnny continued to accuse Nami, Nami noticed something that nobody else did. Terra had been steadily getting paler as the whole scene went on. She even had an unfocused look in her eyes, as if she was looking at something that wasn't there. Nami didn't show it on her face, but she was starting to worry about the young woman. It seemed that whatever was plaguing her a few days ago didn't go away. It even looked worse.
But, that wasn't her problem. She had a mission to complete and nothing more. The guys would have to be the ones to take her to a doctor. She returned her attention to Johnny when he finished speaking.
"So what? You want to seek revenge and kill me?" asked Nami. Terra had snapped out of her trance again. She needed to stop doing that now. The scene might be familiar to her, but she needed to focus on the present now. Right now, Nami was telling them about how Arlong wanted to kill Zoro and his friends.
"What did you do now?" Terra asked him.
"Tell you later," he said.
"Even though you are as strong as the Devil, you can't compare yourself to real devils!" said Nami.
"Eh, I'm willing to take a challenge," said Terra nonchalantly. This slightly irked Nami.
"Never mind about that. Where is Usopp?" asked Zoro.
"Why don't you go look for him at the bottom of the sea?" asked Nami. Zoro was about to charge at her, but Sanji stopped him by aiming a kick at him. Oh, for the love of…was this really a time for a fight?
"Sanji!" yelled Terra as the Sanji and Zoro continued their fight.
"Yes, Miss Terra~!" He was really going to have to stop doing that soon.
"Chill. We have bigger problems now."
"Whatever you say," he said. He really was too easy.
"If you want to fight, just get off of this island! I don't want outsiders to waste their lives here. Don't you understand? The reason I befriended you was for your money! And now you don't have anything, so I don't have to care about you anymore. I will return your ship to you. Just get out of here and find a new navigator or One Piece or whatever you want to do! Get out of here! You're starting to piss me off! Goodbye!" said Nami. Everyone was silent for a beat.
Suddenly, Luffy fell backwards and landed on his back.
"I am going to sleep here," he said matter-of-factly. Terra frowned. What was napping going to do?
"I've never thought of getting off of this island, and I don't care what happens here. Besides, I feel a little sleepy now."
"You just like doing things on a whim, don't you?" asked Terra.
"STOP PLAYING AROUND! YOU WILL GET KILLED!" shouted Nami. She was really pissed now. Without another word, she ran off.
Not knowing what to do next, Terra took a seat on the side of the road. Johnny and Yosaku, not wanting to be killed by Arlong, said their goodbyes to Zoro and left. Now all that was left to do was to wait for Luffy to wake up.
A few minutes passed and Zoro and Sanji started to talk with each other. Terra didn't participate or pay attention. She was too busy replaying the scene with Nami. There was just something about that scene that was eerily familiar. She turned her head to look in the direction Nami left, only to see someone running towards them.
With a nose that long, it was either a fish-man or….
"Usopp!" Unfortunately, this didn't register to the guys as they started to fight over something and Usopp's timing was as good as Zoro's since he ran in between a foot and a sheathed sword.
That stopped the fight, but it also injured Usopp. Terra sighed. Just what did she sign up for again?
The ruckus woke up Luffy, who saw Usopp alive and injured.
"USOPP! Nami did this to you?"
"I thought you didn't believe that?" asked Terra.
"No, it's our fault," said Sanji.
"Only your fault!" said Zoro.
"Luffy! Terra! You're here too!" said Usopp.
"Yep!" said Luffy.
"I also came," said Sanji.
"I will kill you one day!" Usopp said to Sanji. Feeling that they were getting nowhere, Terra stepped up to Usopp.
"You want to tell us how you're alive?" she asked.
"Oh, right. Nami's the one who saved my life. I think there must be a reason she joined the fish-men," said Usopp.
"It's hopeless! There's nothing you can do to change Arlong's system," said a new voice. Terra turned around to see a tattooed, blue-haired woman.
"Nojiko," said Usopp.
"Who's that?" Luffy asked Usopp, since he seemed to know her.
"Nami's elder sister." Sister? She didn't really look a lot like Nami in Terra's opinion. But she supposed that they could get their answers about Nami's behavior now.
"Please! Don't get involved with our business! I will tell you everything if you leave this island," said Nojiko. To anyone else, that would have been a fair deal and they would have stuck with it. But for one of them…
"I don't want to listen to that because I don't care about her past," said Luffy. Then he just walked off, saying that he was going for a walk. That kid had yet to cease to amaze Terra. And then Zoro, after saying he'd listen, went straight to sleep sitting against a tree.
So, with only three listeners now, Nojiko started to tell them everything.
…..
Terra was still sitting on the side of the road after Nojiko left who knew how long ago. She was too busy thinking. Zoro was still sleeping. Sanji and Usopp seemed to be debating about what to do. They had been told everything and were told to leave the island. That they would ruin everything if they were to get involved.
She got up and brushed the dirt off of her pants. She was done thinking. She knew what she wanted to do.
"Hey, where are you going?" asked Usopp. Terra didn't say anything. She just started walking in the direction everyone went. She guessed that to be where the village was.
Not really knowing what to do, the guys got up and followed her as well after waking up Zoro.
…..
By the time she reached the village, an angry mob had formed in the middle of the street. Not wanting to get in the way, Terra went off to the side to watch what was happening.
Apparently, the mermen did something that made them give up hope for Nami's plan to buy back the village and they weren't going to stand by and take their crap anymore. These people were willing to die in a hopeless fight.
"WAIT!" Everyone turned their attention to a smiling redhead. Nami was calmly walking towards them, hoping that she could stop them from fighting.
"Everyone please be patient! I will try to collect the money again, okay? It's not gonna be difficult this time," she tried to reason. But a man covered in scars (and had a pinwheel in his hat for some reason) just hugged her around the shoulders.
"That's enough. You knew that nothing was working! It must have hurt to join them. But it's been a very good fight for you. The girl who always fights alone for us. You've fought good. That's enough. Get off of this island." Nami couldn't believe what she was hearing. In a last ditch effort, she held out her knife at them.
"EVERYONE! DON'T GO! I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE GET HURT BY THEM!" she cried. But it wasn't enough. The villagers still left in the end. Nami slumped to the ground. Suddenly, in a fit of rage, she started stabbing the tattoo on her left shoulder, crying "Arlong!" in hate.
She was stabbing herself repeatedly, thinking that everything was lost. And then, as she raised her arm to stab again, Luffy grabbed her hand. Nami looked over her uninjured shoulder to see him standing there.
"What is it now? You don't know anything!"
"No. I don't know anything," agreed Luffy. Nami started throwing dirt at him now.
"It's none of your business. I told you to get off of this island!" sobbed Nami.
"Yes. You've already told me." Luffy still didn't move from his spot even as dirt was thrown at him. Nami eventually stopped throwing dirt and just continued crying.
"Luffy…help me….." cried Nami. Luffy didn't say anything. But he surprised her when he put his beloved straw hat on her head and walked away. After he got a few feet away, he suddenly shouted out "OF COURSE I WILL!"
After his declaration, he walked over to where the rest of his crew was waiting for him.
"Let's go!" he said. As the guys all went to follow Luffy to Arlong Park, Terra took one last glance at Nami, who was staring at her tearfully. Terra gave her a small smile, and then turned around to catch up with the guys.
…..
The arrived at Arlong Park to find all of the villagers still outside and Johnny and Yosaku guarding the gate from them. Everyone was staring at the five coming up to challenge Arlong, but the group ignored them.
Not wasting any time, Luffy busted down the gate in one blow, surprising everyone but his crew.
"Which one of you is Arlong?" he asked as he walked in.
"That would be me," said the big blue fish-man with the jagged nose sitting in a chair in front of him. He definitely looked tough. Terra was willing to give him that much credit. But only that much credit.
Two other fish-men tried to stop Luffy as he continued his march to Arlong, but they were dealt with swiftly as Luffy bashed their heads together.
"What business do you have with me, pirate?" asked Arlong. Luffy didn't say anything. He just punched Arlong in the face when he got to him. Arlong flew and hit the opposite wall. All of the fish-men were shocked.
"You made our navigator cry!" said Luffy as a means to justify the total ass-kicking he was going to give Arlong. Terra hadn't seen Luffy this mad since Krieg claimed that he was going to take her with the Baratie.
Of course, none of the fish-men liked the fact that Arlong got punched, so they started to charge at Luffy only to be kicked down by Sanji.
"You always have to dive right in, don't you?" Sanji asked Luffy.
"Yeah, but I don't lose!" said Luffy.
"I'm not worried about that, dummy! Just save a little for the rest of us," said Sanji.
"I-It's okay with me if you don't share, Luffy," said Usopp.
"I'll just take your share, Usopp. The fight probably won't last long, anyway," said Terra.
"Who said that you're fighting?" asked Zoro. Dammit! Not this again!
"For the last time…"
"You mean to tell me you came here for Nami?" asked Arlong. Then he laughed.
"You're just five people from an inferior species. What can you do?"
"Do you boneheads think you can push Arlong around? I'll turn you into chum?" said the octopus fish-man. Then he made a trumpet call with his elongated mouth.
"Arise, giant warrior!" Terra looked over into the pool of water that led out into the sea. Something was emerging from the water.
"Come on out, Momoo!" cried the octopus.
As it turned out, Momoo was the sea cow they had run into earlier. The same one that gave them a ride all the way to the island. He still had a bump on his head, too.
"The monster! It's here!" Oh, yeah. Usopp wasn't with them earlier.
"Calm down Usopp. The sea cow isn't a problem," said Terra. As she said that, Momoo spotted and recognized her, Luffy, and Sanji as the people who beat him up and made an about-face. He didn't want to fight them again.
"Wait, Momoo! Where are you going?" asked the octopus. But Momoo still kept swimming away.
"Momoo? What do you think you're doing?" asked Arlong. The sea cow stopped and started trembling now.
"Well, if you want to run away, I won't stop you. Go ahead, Momoo." Terra sensed that the monster was going to attack more than guessed it. She heard the threatening undertone in Arlong's voice as well. But, as she said, the sea cow wasn't going to be a problem. They just had to smack him around and he'd be happy to leave them alone.
That was what she was planning on doing as the sea cow turned on them and the fish-men prepared to attack them.
"I've had it! This is a waste of time!" shouted Luffy. Oh, shit. What was he going to do?
I'll end it here. Before the chapter gets too long. I'm not too sure how well this chapter went. There wasn't much that I could give Terra to do before the confrontation with Arlong since she was not present for some of the other events on the island. But I'm afraid that this chapter might have been a bit rushed. Please be sure to tell me what you think of this chapter and if you have any advice on how to improve it.
Also, about the possible Phantom of the Opera story, ShadedEclipse had made a point about saying that who plays the Phantom depends on who plays Raoul. And I actually agree with that and did some thinking.
This is what I came up with: I want you guys to vote on who you want to be for Raoul. And I will only accept one of two characters for this role since I can visualize this better with one of the two. They are my current two favorite characters (which is probably why I can't decide).
So who shall it be: Zoro or….Trafalgar Law? I know he doesn't show up 'til much later, but this story is a parody.
So please vote in your review! I need these votes!
