[Author's Note: So no response to the last chapter. I guess you are all wondering how the Foster-Adams house is responding to all this. Time to find out. Enjoy!]
Stef could not sleep. She laid in bed staring at the ceiling while her beautiful wife slept next to her. Not being able to lay any longer, Stef climbed out of bed and wandered down the hallway. She pushed open the door to Brandon's bedroom. The furniture was in the same place, but a few items and boxes were scattered about. Stef brushed her hand against the mattress as she walked past Brandon's bed to the electric key board. She looked down at the black and white keys and pressed the middle C. It was the first note that Brandon learned on the piano. Stef remembered sitting next to him in the group beginner piano lesson. She was so proud as he found the key that the teacher had taught them, and she loved seeing the grin plastered on his five year old face. Little did she know back then that her son would become a pianist with chances at scholarships and working with the best in the industry.
Knowing that everyone would begin to wake up to start the day soon, Stef retreated from the room and headed to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. The caffeine would serve her body well as she tossed and turned all night. She knew that Mike was the father of two her children and could take care of them, but she was not adjusting well to them being gone. Wren was only four. When Brandon was four, Mike was out drinking his problems away. Lena kept reminding Stef last night that Mike had been sober for four years, and if anything went wrong, Brandon was old enough to get them out of the situation.
Lena woke up alone. Reaching over to Stef's side, she found no one to give a kiss to. She concluded that her wife must have been awake for awhile since Stef's side was cold. Lena got up and headed off to the kitchen. "Good morning Sweetie. How are you doing?" Lena asked as she approached Stef who was hovering over the coffee pot. Stef turned on her toes and stepped towards Lena. "Morning. I'm okay I guess. Worrying about the kids." Stef answered as she wrapped Lena in a hug. "They are fine. Mike is a good guy." Lena reminded.
"After we finish breakfast, I'm going to help you get ready for preschool. I have the squad car today, so you can take my car to school, B. Do you mind dropping your sister off?" Mike explained as the three ate breakfast. "No problem, dad" Brandon agreed. "You guys will go to your mom's house after school. I have AA tonight. I think Lena is picking up Wren, so you can give your siblings a ride." Mike added. "I'll confirm with Lena when I see her at school." Brandon said before standing up from his seat. Brandon deposited his dirty breakfast dishes in the sink and headed off to get ready for school.
"Dad, is Wren ready?" Brandon called as he got ready to head out the door. Backpack slung over his shoulder, he grabbed the car keys off the kitchen counter. "Ready" Wren replied as she entered the living room in a denim jumper. "Look like dad was able to get your dressed." Brandon commented. "Hey, don't doubt your old man's ability to find a suitable clothing for his daughter." Mike chastised as he entered the room behind Wren. "We have to go, so I won't be late. Say good bye to dad, Wren" Brandon said as he opened the front door. Mike knelt down and gave Wren a hug and a kiss before directing her towards Brandon at the door. Wren waved goodbye as she and Brandon headed out the door and down the hall.
Brandon punched in the code to enter Wren's preschool. The light flashed green, and he pulled open the door. Following his sister, they made their way to her classroom. "You will get to meet Tiffany and Lucy." Wren said excitedly. Her brother had never taken her to school before, and she planned to show him everything. "I don't have a lot of time, so it will have to be quick." Brandon reminded as they reached her classroom. Wren smiled and waved at a teacher who approached. "That is Mrs. K. Mrs. K, this is my brother Brandon." Wren introduced. "Nice to meet you. I've heard so much about you, Brandon. Wren just adores you." Mrs. K greeted. "You too. You might be seeing me dropping her off in the mornings because we just moved in with my dad. Lena should be picking her up this afternoon though." Brandon replied. Mrs. K nodded.
"Are Tiff and Lucy here yet? I want to show them Brandon before he goes to school." Wren butted in. Mrs. K shook her head. Wren frowned. "Maybe next time, Wren. I got to go to school." Brandon suggested as he knelt down to his sister's level. "Love you" he whispered as he kissed her forehead. Wren smiled and gave her brother a hug. "See you after school" Brandon bid goodbye as he stood up and exited the classroom. He did not want to be late and give his moms a bad impression of the first day living with Mike.
