Hello All! Goodness, I've done it again, haven't I? Sorry about the wait. This chapter was actually supposed to be posted on a MUCH earlier date and then I was gonna post it on X-Mas. So...Without further ado, and after many long weeks of no update. Let's start the show!
After what happened in archives, Lyric spent the rest of her day at her own desk, counting the minutes on the clock, on her watch, on her phone. She was fidgeting with the pent up anxiety in her chest. She let out a breath and shook her head, glancing over at Reid, who caught her glance and cleared his throat, immediately going back to his work.
This small interaction was not lost on Blake, who discretely nudged Reid under the table. He looked up at his fellow agent and furrowed his brows.
"What's going on with you two? That was the weirdest exchange of glances I've seen. And it spoke volumes. Speaking of which, something I've noticed about her is her eyes say so much. If you ever want to know what she's thinking, search her eyes." Blake nodded and went back to her work without giving Reid time to answer her question.
He shook his head and let her words sink in, glancing at Lyric and catching her dark brown eyes. She looked to be searching for something. He cleared his throat and went back to his work.
Later after everyone had left to go home and get some rest, Lyric was in the break room grabbing some coffee. Spencer walked in and joined her, stirring in an insane amount of sugar in his coffee.
"Hey, put a little bit more in there, I don't think your brew is 99% glucose yet." She smirked at his baffled expression and lightly patted him on the arm, taking a drink of her beverage and walking to the bullpen.
Spencer shook his head and walked behind her, sitting down at her desk and hesitantly reaching out, taking hold of her hand. "Lyric, sit."
The young woman complied, crossing her legs and nodding. "So...Where to begin..."
Spencer ran a hand through his hair and let out a breath. "Lyric, let's start with the easiest thing. We both like each other very much. That much is true. But-"
"But?" Lyric raised an eyebrow at that.
"But...To just go on feelings. That's crazy, right? We need to get to know each other."
"Okay. I get that. We can take it slow."
"It's not as simple as take it slow. We had sex. Drunken sex. Lyric, I NEVER get drunk. And I've struggled with things before that makes the notion that I got drunk very scary..." Spencer took a deep breath and continued. "You're making me do things I wouldn't normally do."
"I just wanted you to have fun, Reid. I don't want you to have to go against your morals to please me. I'm not that kind of person. I'm sorry I pushed you."
"No, it's not your fault. And in a way I was doing it to try and please you. But I don't want you to feel responsible. Just, listen. You, you've come here and turned everything upside down. I'm having dreams about you, thinking about you. Every time I think I'm going to leave you alone, you pull me back in with your carefree attitude and nonchalant take on life. Usually I'd say it's caused me to age considerably but the most frightening part of it all is that I feel better because of it. I have to ask, are you some kind of mind terrorist?"
Lyric shrugged. "No, but I am a ninja." She then took a drink of her coffee like that was the most normal thing to say.
Spencer shook his head. "Lyric, that's not funny. See? You do things like that, and then I get sucked into your messed up world again."
Lyric sighed, looking at the man in front of her and patted his knee. "Look at me." She waited for him to do so before sliding her chair closer to his and taking both of his hands in hers. "Spencer, please. Don't push me away just yet. Give me a chance, we don't have to have all the answers. We don't have to label this. Just ride the wave of us for a while and see where it takes us."
Spencer took a deep breath and relented, deciding to give Lyric a chance. "Okay. I'll give this a chance. But, no promises that I'll be an amazing...lover?"
"Lover is only relevant if we have sex again. Right now we're just us."
Spencer let out a nervous chuckle. "Alright. Well, are we supposed to kiss?"
Lyric smiled, scooting her chair closer. "Do you want to kiss me, Reid?"
Spencer got very flustered, stumbling over his words as he spoke. "W-Well, if you want to, that's fine...Not that I d-don't. I mean, if it's norma-"
Cutting him off, Lyric leaned over and pressed her lips to his, reaching her arm around his neck. Spencer immediately melted into the soft kiss and placed his hand on her waist, pulling away after a couple moments of enjoying the soft pressure of her lips against his. "Um, I think I like this. Just going with it."
Lyric nodded, giggling. "It definitely beats over analyzing it, right? You do that all day, just revel in simply feeling something...or someone."
Spencer let a small grin spread across his face.
After discussing some other things, like their plans over the weekend and how they were going to spend the upcoming holidays, Lyric and Spencer gathered their things and walked to the elevator.
"Thanks for being cool about this. I know this must be new to you. It's just I'm not much for labeling things. When it feels right, it feels right."
"Being that I've not been in many relationships, I can say that this feels...liberating."
Lyric nodded and stepped inside the elevator, a grin plastered on her face. "Yeah, just wait until the real fun occurs. You'll be walking into the bullpen more relaxed than you've ever been in your entire life." She was just teasing but the deep blush dusted across Spencer's face was priceless.
"Um, well..." He cleared his throat and ran a hand through his hair, pressing the button for the basement and letting out a held breath as Lyric giggled into her hand.
What have I gotten myself into this time?
Okay, since I've so far only gotten one submission for what Lyric's name should be, I'm just gonna go with that. Also, I'm going to TRY to be better about updating because I've been neglecting this story very horribly.
So, although I may not get chapters out every week like I'd originally planned, I will try to make the updates closer together. That way people will get back into caring about this story. Because not getting at least one review a chapter makes a writer think that he/she is doing horribly.
So, whether it's to provide constructive criticism or tell me your feelings on the development, just drop a review.
And 1,000 thank you's to the people who favorited and follow this story. I love you all!
