Chapter 9: Day Nine
I thought it was going to be a normal day. I was sleeping soundly and I was safe. Well, I was until I had another vision.
In my vision, I saw a bunch of flashing images and heard garbled noises, it was like listening to things behind thick glass. Then, my vision cleared and I was just able to hear a voice and see its owner. Once that was clear and imprinted into my mind, the vision ended.
I woke up with a shock. I panted heavily, the image still burned to my eyelids. I don't know why, but even though the person in question seemed to pose no harm, I felt threatened by them... angry with them.
I got up and turned on the radio. I made breakfast like normal. I was shaken to say the least. The vision was going to come true soon and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it or not.
The fateful song that had played in my vision came on and the fishbowl entrance exploded. A blue chicken came in. The explosion had dazed me, but I recovered quick enough to see her take Kowalski and leave before anyone could think. I picked up the radio and ran after them.
I saw the chicken running fast, but I knew I could run fast as well. The radio's song continued and I filtered energy through my body and ran. I flipped over walls and was able to keep pace with the chicken. She didn't notice me until I jumped in front of her. She gave an exclamation of surprise, but I just narrowed my eyes at her.
"Put the penguin down," I said. She did and went after me. The music put a beat in me, a beat that encouraged me to dodge and fight. I don't think I ever moved faster than I did then.
"How is this possible?!" asked the chicken.
"Anything's possible with science," I replied.
I twirled and released energy. That sent the chicken into a wall and knocked her out. Then, I heard the second wave coming after me.
I looked up and noticed a swarm of chinchilla sized robots with wings. I knocked them out, still to the beat of the song on the radio. I was soon surrounded and couldn't hear anything... much less see anything but the swarm in front of me. I released energy at them and in a couple of droves, they fell. I heard the song ending and I noticed that the remaining robots had taken the chicken and fled. I panted, my efforts had taxed me greatly. It was then that I fainted.
I had another dream. I was chained to the ceiling and I heard an ear-shocking noise. I struggled with my bonds, but nothing was working. I tried to call out for help, but my throat felt restricted and no sound came out.
It was then that I saw a figure in the distance. It was a smooth-looking figure. It was a dolphin. I shook in my chains, trying to indicate to her that I needed help. She just smiled at me and said, "Now that you're here, Kowalski is all mine. I obviously couldn't have you in my way, could I?"
I heard screaming coming from the side of the room. I couldn't see what was going on, but I felt a surge of anger flow through me. "Don't worry, he's safe... with me." She said, looking at me menacingly. It was then that I felt my heart shatter. She and Kowalski were kissing. She opened her eyes and looked at me. It was a look that said, "This is mine and there's nothing you can do about it." Naturally, only one word clung to my tongue and begged to be released, but my voice never came. I struggled with it until the vision ended.
I woke up and screamed, "NO!" I panted and screamed it again, for good measure, "No!" Then, I felt the pain in my chest that I had felt from the vision. "No," I said quietly. I put my eyes to my flippers and cried.
"What's wrong, Valerie?" asked a voice. I looked up and saw Kowalski, looking concerned. I was too pained to see it.
"What do you care?! It's not like I matter to you!" I got up and fled to the openness of the outdoors. I cried again. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Of course he doesn't care about you! Otherwise, he wouldn't be kissing someone else! I felt like breaking something, anything, even bones. I looked up at the bars in front of me. There were no humans around and no cameras watching. I went forward and broke off one of the bars and smashed at the concrete platform with all my might. "This is for lying to me! This is for getting my hopes up! This is for making me look like a fool! And this is for all the things men like you do in general!" I smashed at the platform until I cracked it. I threw down my weapon and felt the crack with my flippers.
"Is this a bad time?" I turned around and noticed it was Marlene.
"Every time is a bad time for me, Marlene. What do you want?" I asked, perhaps a little too testily.
"Well, after you saved Kowalski from the blue hen, you fainted and you missed breakfast and lunch. I was bringing over dinner if you were awake." Marlene showed me a basket full of fish and clams.
"Thank you, Marlene. Come in, I think my anger has subsided for now."
We went inside and dinner was very quiet. I think everyone was starting to get an idea as to how dangerous I was. I felt guilty that I had even come to the zoo at all. Perhaps it would be best if I went back home. "No... I don't want that," I answered myself.
"Do you want to talk about your vision?" asked Private.
"Well, this morning, I had a vision telling me about the blue hen's attack. While I was out after that though... it was something different entirely." As I thought about the vision, I curled up my flipper in anger. I don't know why I felt like Kowalski had done anything wrong. I didn't even know if he liked me that much. For that matter, I didn't know if I liked him that much. I finished my dinner and said, "I'm going to sleep."
I wrote in my journal and put my pillow over my head. I was frustrated about the whole thing. It wasn't long after that though, that I was asleep.
Day Nine Complete.
Hey guys! Finally an update, right? Well, I'm really stuck right now. If you guys have any ideas for where this could go from here, that'd be awesome. I know the kiss can't happen until day 14. So, what can happen in the mean time? Please keep reading and reviewing, thanks :)
