Chapter 10
Gabby walked into the kitchen to see Matt, making sandwiches. Creeping into the room and around the counter she stood behind him and kissed his neck, "Morning babe."
Matt was grinning before he even turned around to face her; at sixteen weeks she was growing every day and it always amazed him how sexy she looked carrying two little human's their love created.
Placing one had gently over her t-shirt he leaned in to kiss her lips, "How about we go out for dinner tonight to celebrate finding out what we're having?" He suggested after their lips broke apart.
As his lips left hers she moaned and pouted and she grabbed the hem of his t-shirt for another kiss, "I'd rather order in." She said in-between kisses.
Matt could feel his need for her growing intensely but at the same time he didn't want to hurt her; he knew the books said it was okay but he was still worried,
"Gabby I don't want to hurt you or the babies," He gently caressed her cheek.
She took his hands, "You can't hurt us Matt I read up on it yesterday there are certain things we can do to make sure though…" She trailed off.
Matt's eye brow raised; he was now intrigued, "Yeah, like what?"
She mischievously smiled and grabbed his hand, "Well he have two hours before the appointment to find out.
"Well then what are we waiting for," Matt led her towards the stairs.
As Dr. Steven's closed the door to the examination room Gabby sat up and swung her legs over the side of the examination table, "Can you hand me my clothes babe?"
Matt playfully pouted, "Fine but only because I want to find out what we're having;" He took the clothes from the chair Gabby had placed them on and handed them to her, "If we couldn't find out today I wouldn't be giving them back," He added before she took them.
Gabby smirked, "Uh-huh Matt," She put on her bra and clasped it together; "Well maybe later after you get back from your construction job.
"Right," Matt nodded his head; he was meeting the guys at the new house to continue to work on the house. He was also going to start working on the nursery as well and get some of the room plans drawn up for that.
"You know after we know we're going to have to decide on names; Why don't we each pick one? That way its fair. Unless of course I don't like whatever one you pick."
Matt leaned in to her and kissed her on the lips pulling back only slightly he caressed her cheek and said, "And if I don't like a name you pick out?"
"Then we still use it," She responded confidently but with a smile on her face.
"Okay babe," He kissed her again just as Dr. Steven's knocked on the door before entering.
"So," The middle age doctor looked at the couple, "Everything seems fine with both babies; they're growing at the right rate and your stomach pains have stopped and you seem to be eating more regularly now."
"Yeah I am," Gabby nodded, "Those pills helped a lot."
"Good; now I was able to identify the sex of both of the twins if you would like to know.
"Yes please," Gabby responded.
"Okay; You're having two boys."
Gabby grinned widely and looked up at Matt, "Two identical twin boys."
Matt gently pressed his hands to her abdomen and smiled.
Dr. Steven's loved seeing happy couples as they reacted to the news of what they were having, "Now I'd like to see you again when you're twenty weeks. You can make an appointment at the front desk." She walked towards the door; "I'll see you then." She smiled again before walking out of the examination room this time leaving the door open.
Matt helped Gabby off of the table, "We can make an appointment now and then I'll check my schedule later. I want to make sure I'm able to come to every visit with you."
Gabby took his hand and leaned slightly into him as they walked back out towards the waiting room. They made an appointment for a Thursday afternoon and then walked back to Matt's truck.
As per his plan Matt sent Shay a quick text telling her they were leaving. Only minutes later Gabby's cell phone rang.
Smiling as she saw her best friend's name on the screen she immediately answered it, "You couldn't wait until I called you?" She laughed.
"No!" Shay shook her head, "So do you know?"
"Yeah we know…"
"And?"
"And we're having two boys," She replied as she affectionately rubbed her abdomen.
Shay squealed with happiness, "We need to celebrate! Severide's out all day so you should drop by."
"I wish I could but I'm going over to Laura and Antonio's house later today. Tell you what though I'll talk to Laura and see if you can come too all right?
Listening to Gabby's converstation with Shay as he drove Matt couldn't believe how easy this seemed to be. The converstation had gone almost by script and he was confident now he'd be able to pull this off.
"No, no Gabby I don't want to intrude; that's family."
"No, no," Gabby shook her head, "It'll only be us girls. Antonio and Diego are going to be out and Eva has volleyball."
"Still…."
"Shay its fine. I'll call Laura and then call you back."
"Okay Gabby," Shay waited a few seconds before she hung up the phone.
The basement was the one area of the new house that Matt knew needed the most work. The stairs leading down to it were old and falling apart and the basement itself was unfurnished. His plan for it was to make a large carpeted play area, and another separate area with an air hockey table and large screen TV. His plan was that when the twins were older they could play in the playroom while he and his friends watched sports or hung out in the other room. The rooms would be separate but Matt would still be able to keep an eye on them and it would give Gabby a break and time to spend alone with her friends.
Matt was on his hands and knees measuring the basement for tiles when Antonio and Diego walked down the creaky stairs.
"Hang on tight bud," Antonio instructed his son.
"Okay Dad," Diego responded as eh carefully walked onto the cement floor.
Matt stood dusting his hands on his jeans, "Hey,"
"Hi," Diego waved, "I-I'm-" He looked up at his father who just nodded his head encouraging him to continue, "I'm sorry I was rude before. I know it was wrong. I've been thinking a lot about it and I'd like you to like me; and my coming here was my idea not my Dad's."
Matt pulled the boy into a hug, "It's okay bud;" Pulling away he knelt down to the eight year olds level, "It's nice if you to apologize though; really mature of you. And I think we can find something for you to do," He stood wrapping his arm around Diego's shoulder.
"You guys see Severide, Cruz and Otis coming in?"
"Yeah Cruz was unloading things and Severide was working on wood carving," Antonio responded, "I saw the kitchen too. I don't think it needs any work Gabby's going to love it."
"Dad it does need something. It need Aunt Gabby's wall of fame," Diego pointed out.
Antonio chuckled, "You're right bud; it does need that," He reached forward and ruffed his sons dark hair.
"So did Gabby tell you?" Matt changed the subject.
"About what you're having? Yeah. She texted me; sounds pretty excited. Mentioned something about names too."
"Well right now she really likes the names Oliver and Simon but I'm not sure if that'll change or not so I think I', going to wait before I do the names plates for the walls of the nursery."
"I think she's pretty adamant on those names," Antonio continued, "Once she's got something in her head she doesn't easily change it."
"Yeah that's true," Matt agreed.
Gabby, Laura and Leslie were sitting in the living room when Eva walked into the house.
"Mom!" Eva entered the front door, "I'm home!" She made her way into the living room.
"I can see that. Did you thank Mrs. Davis for driving you home?"
"Uh-huh oh and she wanted me to ask you if you could switch carpool dates next week."
"I don't see why that would be a problem. I'll call her tomorrow.
"I told her you'd probably say that," Eva sat on the arm of her chair.
"Upstairs and get changed and do your homework; then you can come talk with us."
"I finished my homework after school; before practice started."
"Let me see."
Eva walked out of the room and came back with her backpack and pulled out her agenda and homework.
After checking to make sure Eva's homework really was completed Laura handed everything back to her, "Alright sweetheart go upstairs and get changed and then you can come and talk with us."
Eva squealed and jolted around before running towards the stairs. She returned minutes later wearing a felt pajama top and matching bottoms and fuzz slippers.
"Well don't' you look comfy," Shay smiled as the young teenager sat beside Gabby on the couch.
"So Aunt Gabby what are you having?" She asked excitedly.
"Two little boys; Oliver and Simon."
"Awe, cute names," She gushed, "They're going to be so cute. I can't wait to see them."
"Yeah does that mean you'll help me look after them?"
"Sure just as long as I don't have to change any diapers."
"No Eva," Laura shook her head, "The deal was that if you wanted to start babysitting kids that aren't potty-trained you practice with your new cousins firsts. You're going to help Aunt Gabby and Matt out."
"Okay Mom," Eva grumbled in response.
"Good."
"Can we tell her about the spa trip now?" Eva was almost bouncing with excitement.
Laura smiled at her daughter's excitement, "Okay Eva go ahead."
"Aunt Gabby we're going t treat you to a spa weekend. Just you Mom, Leslie and me no boys or anything. We're going before the babies are born kind of like a baby shower combined with a girls weekend."
Gabby didn't know what to say; she was speechless she had never expected them to do anything like this for her, "Laura, Shay-"
"No. It's already booked Gabby it's in five weeks; just a nice relaxing weekend."
Gabby stood and hugged Shay, Laura and then finally Eva; she had no idea that this was only the start of the surprises.
