I thought I'd put up a chapter because why not. Tomorrow's my birthday so I might write a birthday one-shot if all goes well. Anyways, on with the story.
Jade POV
Aiden isn't the best partner I've had, but he certainly isn't the worst either. Even if he's only 4, he knows his buttons, which joystick's to move and to move the camera angle, he even knows what to do before me in some cases. I still have to show him which button does what sometimes and how to use both joysticks at the same time depending on the game. Either way, little guy's got skills.
'Jay, she has The Last Of Us!' Nicole practically jumps off the couch to check out that one game.
I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember. It's one way I can let my anger out; one of my escapes. Even though she hates admitting it - she says it makes her feel like a dork - Nicole feels the same way. She loves playing video games with me when we're at home and it's just the two of us; Cat being the exception. Sometimes I wake up and find her playing Steambot Chronicles at 2 am when our insomnia hits at the same time.
I chuckle softly. 'I'll never be able to play that game the same way ever again.'
'Why not?' Tori asks me, walking downstairs with Dallas.
'No reason.' Actually, it's because of a fanfiction called The World We Live In. Like Nicole and video games, I'll never admit to reading fanfiction.
'Is it because of that one-'
'Yes Nikki! That is exactly the reason, now moving on...' I shoot her a warning look and see her smirk at me.
We stay at Tori's for the rest of the day and come back again Sunday. Dallas got Nicole to play a few of those sleepover games with her. She even got Tori and I to play a few rounds of Never Have I Ever with them. When Nicole and Dallas were playing on their own, Tori and I had a chance to work on that play we have for Sikowitz. It's Sunday evening and we're working on the actual script part of the play. Aiden's at home and the girls are playing Would You Rather on the couch next to us.
'Okay, would you rather...drink period blood or bite down on a razor blade?' Dallas asks Nicole.
'Dallas!' Tori looks at her cousin, a bit appalled. 'That's horrible and disgusting!'
'It's okay, Tori. I live with Jade, remember? She has a pint of your blood, which is horrible, and a lump of fat in a jar, which is disgusting.' Nicole defends Dallas, winking at me.
'My horrible and disgusting collection of things has made you immune to many things in life, little sister.' I smile at her.
'The period blood, I guess. The razor would hurt too much.'
Just then, I felt my stomach drop in the way it does when you know you're gonna throw up. I dig my nails into my palm and look at Tori. 'Hey Tor, do you have a bathroom downstairs?'
'Yeah, behind the stairs, first door on your right.'
I get up and walk as calmly as I can. However, once the door's closed, I lift the lid and spill my guts into the toilet.
Dallas POV
When Jade was asking Tori where the bathroom was, two things caught my attention. One, her arm was tense; kinda how it is when you make a fist, but her fingers weren't curled and her thumb wasn't in the correct position for a fist. Two, it looked like she was a bit paler than usual, if that's even possible.
Getting the water bottle Jade left on the couch, I sneak over to the bathroom. Tori's reading over the script with Nicole, so it's not that hard.
The door's slightly ajar, so I peek inside and find Jade slumped over the toilet. I walk in and close the door, not wanting to frighten her. 'Jade? It's Dallas. Obviously you're not alright, so I brought your water. Thought you might need it.'
I kneel down next to her and hand her the water bottle. She unscrews the lid and rinses her mouth a little. After she does so, she sticks her head back in the toilet for round two.
'Oh, sweetheart...' I get the hair tie I always have on my wrist and tie her hair back, rubbing her back soothingly when I'm done.
'I don't mean to sound rude or ungrateful...but why did you come? Why not Nicole or Tori?' Jade asks, her voice distorted by the toilet.
'They were reading your script when I left them. Don't get me wrong, it's really captivating...you just didn't seem right when you ran off. You're paler and you were digging your nails into your palms. So either you were having a panic attack or you were about to throw up. I guessed the latter, and here we are.' I cringe a little when she hurls again as I finish.
'You're pretty observant, huh?'
'Mhm. I also noticed you've been pretty tired all weekend and every time someone so much as nudges one of your boobs, you wince like it's painful. When did you break up with Beck?' She looks up at me, surprised. 'Nicole told me.'
'Wednesday.'
'And when was the last time you two...you know...?'
Jade looks taken aback that I would ask that question, but she answers nonetheless. 'A little over a week ago. Why?'
'Have you been spotting and having cramps?'
'If you're asking if I'm pregnant, I'm not. I started spotting yesterday and the cramps started Friday. It's probably just the flu or something.'
'Not necessarily, Jade...'
She throws up one more time before rinsing her mouth and flushing the toilet. 'What do you mean?'
She has a little bit of vomit on her cheek, around her mouth, and in her hair so I get some toilet tissue and begin cleaning her up. 'When a girl's about a week along, the egg attaches itself to the vaginal wall, causing spotting and cramps. It's called implantation bleeding and is almost always mistaken for a period.'
'Okay, how do you know all of this? You're 13 for God's sakes!'
'I also take my classes online. My health class required me to write a report on either pregnancy, eating disorders, or PTSD. I chose pregnancy, obviously, and went all out; made a powerpoint and everything.'
She chuckles and pushes my shoulder lightly. 'Over achiever. You're just like your cousin.'
I smile a little before turning serious. 'When are you gonna take a test?'
'I'll pick one up after school tomorrow.' She looks at me, her expression a little nervous. 'Will you...will you stay with me when I take it? I'm gonna ask my best friend too, but you already know and the more support I have, the less likely I'll be to lose my shit...'
'Of course.' I give her a soft smile before hauling myself up. 'Now, if you're done getting friendly with the toilet, they probably noticed I'm gone by now...and don't worry. I won't tell anyone. Your secret's safe with me.' I offer her my hand, the same soft smile on my face.
She smiles back and takes my hand, letting me help her up. After making sure she's clean and doesn't have any vomit left anywhere, we walk out of the bathroom.
Okay, I know this is a curve ball and everything BUT I didn't know where to take this story once Jori happened and Nicole and Dallas got on friendlier terms. I didn't wanna be done writing this, so I couldn't end it. Then my friend got sick and kept joking about how she thought she was pregnant so this happened. I also chose Dallas to go check on Jade because A) They haven't had a moment where they're alone and stuff like Tori and Nicole did at the beginning. B) Tori, Jade, and Nicole all go to a Hollywood Arts school and I never established where Dallas went to school. And C) I only wrote in Dallas' POV once and she's one of the main characters. Anyways, Hasta Luego mi pastelitos, good damn bye.
