Chapter ten
Harsh light of day
Kelly felt Abel playing by her, she moved on the sofa realizing she'd fallen asleep. Rubbing her eyes she glanced to Elyda walking into the living room with a plate of snacks for Abel. "You awake," She smiled placing the snacked on the table.
"Yea, how long was I out for?" Kelly sat up trying to tame her hair that was pushed down on one side, "I'm sorry."
"No, you need to get rest, you're going to need it before the baby comes," Elyda sat beside Kelly as Abel went for his snacks. "You feeling okay, want me to get you something to eat?"
For a moment Kelly wanted to say no, but her eyes looked over the other woman, she was just being nice. She watched as Abel was picking up a cookie, he turned and held it out to Kelly. "Thank you."
"I'll make you a sandwich," Elyda got up heading to the kitchen again.
Abel moved across the living room sitting on the sofa with Kelly, He wrapped his arms around her, "I'm happy you're here." Kissing her cheek he kept hugging her.
Kelly kissed the top of his head; she could feel him hugging her tight. "I love you too." With a smile she kept glancing over his face resting against her stomach.
Abel glanced up, "Why your belly feel funny?" His hand placed over the side, he giggled playing his hand over it more.
Kelly laughed while Abel followed the feeling of the baby moving, Kelly almost forgot the sensation as the baby started to be more active again. "That's your cousin saying hello." Kelly spoke softly to Abel.
"Is he?" Abel kept playing his hands more.
Kelly laughed again, but tried not to be mean, "No Abel, she's going to be a girl," She watched Abel look confused. "Not all babies born are boys."
Abel kept rubbing his hand over the moving, he smiled, "Can I still play with her?" He was now focused on Kelly.
"When she's born," Kelly thought over her words, "She'll be too little to play with."
Abel nodded, "I can protect her," He kept his voice soft, his eyes focused on Kelly's. "I can be like her big brother too, like I am with Thomas."
"If you want to," Kelly could see Elyda coming back into the living room with a sandwich and something to drink.
Tara felt like she was walking under water, the feelings she'd never wanted to feel, she was feeling it all hard and fast. The events blurred together in a mass of Tara watching Otto pulled from the room, the smell of the fresh blood in the air.
Frozen in terror Tara couldn't understand how she was still seeing everything, even as blurred as they were, she knew it was something she'd have to face up when the smoke cleared. Tara knew it would come back to her, she gave Otto that crucifix.
"Doctor Knowles, did he hurt you?" A CO had taken Tara from the room, she didn't even notice that she had moved from behind the bed, her eyes not focusing, not forgetting. "Doctor Knowles!"
"I'm fine," Tara wanted to laugh, she was far from fine, but she couldn't even start to add up the things that were wrong. "He didn't touch me." Her voice was weak, her eyes looking up to the man standing in front of her holding her steady.
Tara taking her stance, she stood on her own feeling the strength come back to her legs, she knew she had to think, she needed to think of something to help her. There was no hope now. "We'll need to ask you some questions." The CO said watching her stand on her own, her eyes refusing to look where she once was.
"I understand," Tara inhaled, "I," Her words drifted off, her eyes looking over to the clock on the wall feeling like each second was ticking too slow. "I'm still very shocked."
"I understand," The man stood back, "Would like you something to drink?"
Tara shook her head, "I need to see my boys." Her eyes going to the other officers sitting back, "Please, I can't think of anything right now."
The CO turned around, he knew this wasn't going to be easy, "The warden will need to speak to you before you leave." He straightened himself out before leaving her in the hallway alone.
Tara closed her eyes; she took a few deep breaths. Her mind had to collect itself, she needed to be able to think of anything to say, but soon it was going to come back to her, and then matter of how he managed to get a weapon.
Sitting alone Tara felt the footsteps heading towards her, she held her face in her hands before feeling someone close. Opening her eyes she glanced up to the Warden, he wasn't a big man, but had a big presence about him. "Doctor Knowles." He started, but could clearly see the woman was shaken up. "First I'd like to apologize for what has happened." He inhaled sharp, "The inmate will be under full investigation, and locked in the SHU, but first I need to know if this action could be linked to anything medical."
Tara shook her head, "I," Her voice slowly getting more solid, "No, I don't think this is a physical problem, I." Her eyes going up from her hands to his face, "I just would like to be able to go home." Her hand brushed under her eyes feeling the slow stream of tears running down her face.
"Would you be able to have anyone come get you?" He asked looking over her face, she looked ghostly white.
Tara inhaled, "I can call someone." She thought of who to call, her mind was everywhere as she thought of the many problems that was going on in her life. "I'll have someone come for my car too." She exhaled getting to her feet. "Is there anything else?"
"The police will need to question you, but for now, I think you should just remember to stay in the area." He nodded to another CO as he walked away leaving Tara feeling the fear.
It was that feeling that was hitting him again, it wasn't as bad as last time, but still enough to make him realise how much of a thin line he was walking. Juice wanted to prove to Jax so much that he could be trusted, but every now and then he'd glance over to Chibs at the bar and feel his stomach sink deeper.
The day was a waste to him, he couldn't believe he was trying his hardest to help Jax get evidence against Clay, but nothing was happening.
Reaching for his phone he glanced over the screen, a photo on his wallpaper of himself and Kelly.
He debating for a while before pressing the dial button on her name, he listened to the sound, each ring would echo after the other, part of Juice wanted to hang up until he heard her voice on the other end.
"Hey baby," Juice could tell the call had woken her up, he put on a brave face that she couldn't even see. "Did I wake you?"
He was left with the sound of movement, his eyes back to Chibs behind the bar, everything felt tense as he could only hear the background of where ever Kelly was.
"It's okay," Kelly's voice was soft, Juice could imagine being with her, seeing the different shades of brown in her hair. "I've been sleeping too much." Kelly carried on as Juice just sat listening to her voice. "You okay?"
Juice could tell her all the worries, he could go into the details of what Jax had over him, but in this moment he couldn't put that stress on her. "No Babe," He didn't want to give any tells. "Just wondering how you're doing."
"I've just been being lazy around Jax's place with Abel." Kelly's voice drifted off, "I think Tara's home." She sounded worried as Juice could hear from the sound of Kelly's voice. "I gotta go baby." Her voice seemed to drift to Juice.
"I'll call by later." Juice could hear the phone going dead, he didn't know what to do looking at his computer, he needed to have a plan. He couldn't lose everything.
Juice hadn't had any idea where he wanted to go after the club house, he could feel both Bobby and Chibs eyes burning his heart, he felt both shame and disgust towards he actions.
The key open a lock he could see her waiting for him, her hands on her stomach as she was sleeping in a sitting position.
Part of Juice didn't want to wake her up; it was nice to see her in some kind of peace. The way her hair was falling down her shoulders, her face clear of the worry lines that mask how young her face was. He almost forgets that she's coming close to twenty three.
Carefully Juice placed his hand on her cheek, he moved in placing a soft kiss on her forehead feeling her eyes flutter open. "Hi…" Her voice was a warm husky whisper.
"I've missed you," Juice ran his hand from her cheek to her shoulder. He couldn't help staying lost in her deep blue eyes.
Kelly felt his hand on her shoulder, her eyes gazing over his face, "I'm right here baby." Her voice lingered on the end, she couldn't stop feeling like she was always pulled between the love of Juice, and her obligation to her cousin.
Juice didn't move, he watched her face carefully. "This is going to be worked out; I'll prove myself to Jax." His eyes held her stare. "Kelly, I need you."
For them few seconds it seemed the air was filled with silence, Kelly was still, Juice could see her mind working a mile a second, his forehead moved to rest against hers, and he took in the smell of her skin. "I don't know what I'd do without you," Juice whispered softly, his hands both on her cheeks.
Kelly couldn't move, her heart sinking deeper into her chest, she couldn't even know what to say to that statement. Everything was sinking; everything wasn't gummy drops and rainbows. All she could do was close her eyes and feel Juice's hands on her. "Juan," Her eyes stayed closed, her breath caught in her throat. "I love you too much." Her eyes opened to see his closed resting his face close to her own. "I can't stop…" Her words cut short with his lips on her own.
Juice kissed Kelly, his fingers moving into her hair, feeling the warm calm her kiss would bring to him, the way her arms would wrap him in, bringing him into her body welcoming. He knew this kind of love was rare, and with the shit he'd made of his life, he didn't even know how long he would have this. "Kelly…" Juice started, but something stopped him, his eyes opened and looked down. He couldn't help but smile feeling the kick from Kelly's stomach.
Kelly felt it too, her eyes going to her stomach with Juice, "Guess someone doesn't like their daddy being upset." Her voice smooth, her fingers taking hold of Juice's hand placing it on her stomach. "She responds to your voice a lot of the time."
Juice took a deep breath; he could still feel the movement of his unborn child. "She's going to be a little hell raiser."
Kelly couldn't help but break into a little smile, "I've been thinking of maybe going to visit my mum." Kelly spoke with caution; she didn't know how Juice would react to hearing her say what she'd been thinking.
Juice stopped staring at the baby belly, his eyes moved carefully until they met Kelly's eyes watching him. "If that's what you need to do," He knew this wasn't her inviting him to come with her, he knew she was giving him the freedom to clean his mess without worrying about her. "I think it's good you get away for a while."
Kelly nodded, she didn't know why she picked her mother of all people, but then she'd been avoiding her to the point where she couldn't keep her in the dark for much longer. "I'm just scared to leave."
"I promise I'll be here waiting for you," Juice lightly embraced her belly, he felt the kicking subsiding to small movements, and he couldn't help but feel content. "I'll be here for both of you."
AN: So this is been a long time since I've updated, and really doubt that this story has any following anymore, so my big sorry. But then I really do what to finish this series, and even if I am finding it harder to write, I will try my best to complete the next installment and post a chapter every week instead of every forever.
