Just an idea. May continue? Happy Monday.
xoxo.
To her this was perfect.
Checking her watch, she saw that it was only 11:27 in the morning and Fitz was cuddled up in front of her sleeping with a light snore.
He had been the one that suggested that they lay on the couch and watch something on TV since the twins were in school. She should have known once he turned his back to the screen, wedged his leg between hers, and snuggled his head on her chest that he would be out like a light.
She ran her nails through his hair, lightly scratching his scalp, and started flipping through the channels until she found something to her liking.
"Law and Order it is." She said settling on the show and relaxing her body into her husbands.
The shrill ringing of her cellphone cut into her peaceful atmosphere making her groan. She decided on letting it go to voicemail, but before she could go back to the show, it rang once more and the doorbell chimes blended it with it.
With an eye roll, she untangled her husband's limbs and grabbed her phone. She peered at the name and silenced it as she made her way to the front door. She didn't even bother looking to see who was at her door when she swung it open.
"Hey kid." Cyrus said. He gave her a once over and saw the phone in her hand. "Screening my calls?"
She let out a small huff and moved over to let him inside. Before he could go any further in the foyer she grabbed his arm lightly.
"What is it Cyrus?"
"Hey, hello. How are you? I'm good, thanks for asking." He joked as he tried walking deeper into the home only to be stopped by her again.
"Seriously Cy, what is it?"
"Where is Fitz? I want to talk to the both of you about this."
"He's sleeping." She answered hoping he would take the hint to leave.
Cyrus waved his hand dismissingly and made his way to the kitchen. She followed behind him and took deep breath knowing the conversation was about to be draining.
"So you know bids or presidency is around the corner." He started. He took a few drinks of his water that Olivia had given him before he started. "Buzz around town is people want Fitz back in office."
She laughed. Not just a little giggle but a laugh that would make your stomach hurt after too long.
"What's funny?" Her laughed died when she heard her husband's sleepy voice.
The kitchen filled with noise of him dragging his feet to her. He went behind her, wrapped an arm around her waist, and rested his head on her shoulder so he could look at Cyrus.
"Well good morning sleeping beauty." Cyrus commented. "I have some good news for you."
"Yeah?"
"Mmhm, people want you back in office."
Fitz scoffed and laughed lightly. "Excuse me?"
"I don't see why you and giggles over here think this funny. They want you back. You were only in office for one term and you had one of the highest approval ratings throughout your presidency."
Cyrus kept rambling on about the subject at hand and Olivia desperately wanted to turn around to gauge her husband's face but decided against it until he finished. He finished with a light huff and looked at the two faces looking back at him.
"So? Can I tell the press you're considering?"
"Absolutely not." Olivia laughed. "Right Fitz?" she asked still not turning around.
When she was met with silence, she turned around to face him. She saw that he was in deep thought and that had taken her back. She pulled away slightly and she noticed he was still looking at Cyrus. She could see the wheels turning in his head.
"Fitz." He looked down at her but said nothing. "Hey, are you…are you really thinking about this?"
"I…I don't know."
She said nothing but moved out of his arms, turning to Cyrus. Before she could even start, he had cut her off and started talking to Fitz once again.
"Grab two tumblers and some of your whiskey." Cyrus said. "We can continue talking about this in the den."
He didn't wait for an answer as he made his way to the area. Olivia turned around to see Fitz grabbing the glasses and whiskey, which only angered her more. The idea of returning to the white house wasn't appealing at all. The thought of trying to raise children in that light made her uneasy. And the fact that he was even entertaining the idea pissed her off.
"Unbelievable." She scoffed and tried walking off but Fitz grabbed her arm.
"Hey, I just want to hear what he has to say. What's the problem?"
"You're kidding, right? I can see your minding really thinking about this. I thought-" Olivia's mind was going a hundred miles per hour. "I thought you wanted what we have here? The peace, our family…us?"
"Don't do that Liv."
"No!" She barked jabbing her finger in his chest. "This is ridiculous and you are entertaining this like you will really go back."
Fitz didn't say anything as he placed the glasses down on the island and rested his hands on it. A few beats past before the air filled with words that made her stomach drop.
"What if I do want to go back?"
He wanted to turn around but didn't want to face her. He didn't want to see the hurt or disappointment that was probably etched across her face.
"If you're thinking I'm going to raise my children in that atmosphere, you're wrong Fitz."
That statement made him turn around with a quickness. He was met with the face he didn't want to face but he wanted to make sure what he said next was clearly heard.
"And if you think." He started as he made his way closer to her so that he was now face to face. "I'm going back into office without my family, you're wrong Olivia."
Nothing was said. It was complete silence. The tension was thick between the two and was becoming uncomfortable. No one knew who would be the next one to say anything and they didn't get the chance to find out because the sound of Cyrus yelling for Fitz to hurry up cut the air.
"Enjoy your meeting." She said walking out.
