KIRSTY'S P.O.V
"You gave him the address?" I couldn't believe it.
"Well, yeah." Nita looked at me confused. "Why?"
"You don't realise the danger you've put your mum in, Nita." Adam was getting involved which was unusual when it involved Nita. His tone was stressed with a slight detection of anger. I understood but I wouldn't have him talking to Nita that way.
"Nita, why don't you go and play on Adam's Xbox?"
"But he's only got guys' games." She protested.
"Please." I sighed and she gave in and trudged out of the room.
I turned to Adam but walked past him into the kitchen to sit down. As I did, I slumped onto the kitchen counter and buried my head in my arms. "I'm sorry." I muttered.
"Say again?" He made out that he couldn't hear me but I think he just wanted me to sit up. I did, avoiding his eyes. His face was screwed up with stress.
"I said I'm sorry, I don't mean to be such a strain." My temper was wearing thin and I tried to hide my fear as Adam's was too.
"Forget it. What are we going to do?" He replied.
"I don't know, Adam. I may as well just take Nita home. There's no point in hanging around here, you're working tomorrow. It's inevitable, I may as well face it."
Adam thought for a long moment. "I'll call in sick tomorrow."
"Don't be stupid. You can't always be around to protect me."
"Then I'll call Jay."
"Oh drop it, will you?" I assumed he was mocking me and I couldn't help snapping at him as my temper flared.
"I was being serious. I'll ask if you and Nita could stay at his tomorrow. Just until my shift's over."
My hand travelled to my mouth as the pondered over the idea. "I couldn't. He's a good friend but that's too much to ask. He's never even met Nita."
"Oh come one, Kirsty, it's Jay. He won't mind."
I called Nita back into the room and asked if she would be okay with it. She didn't understand why we were, as she put it, hiding from her dad. Adam and I explained everything. She'd always known about the abuse but she'd never fully understood what I went through. She was shocked when I told her that I only allowed myself to go through it so that she could stay with her dad. She gave in and I called Jay;
"Hi, Jay, listen I - "
"Kirsty? Is everything okay?" He was surprised at my call, I'd never rung him before, he must have assumed I was in trouble, especially after what he'd discovered earlier.
"I'm fine." I smiled into the phone. "Actually, I wondered if I could ask a huge favour?"
"Anything." He answered.
"Are you working tomorrow?"
The conversation continued, Jay agreed without hesitation, he seemed happy to help. I, on the other hand, felt bad about lying to him…
*So what's Kirsty lying about now? Chapter 11 coming swiftly ;D*
