The boisterous music blaring from the phone on the table woke up the sleeping brunette.
Groaning and blindly reaching out to stop the hideous noise, his slim fingers groped the phone and brought the bright stream of light up to his face to see who would be calling him at-he glanced at the time on his phone-two-thirty in the morning. Watery and half awake eyes made out the caller I.D on his phone to Mello. Quickly swiping the phone to unlock and answer it, he spoke, his voice a bit groggy, into the phone.
" Mello...I'm sure you know what the time is."
" What of it?" He bit back with some attitude. " I need your assistance." He demanded quickly.
"This early in the day?" Matt definitely did not want to get up four hours earlier than he planned. Mello never slept, why should he be punished for his friend's misfortune?
" Are you going to help me or not? I'm not going to ask again."
" Yeah, yeah. Can I at least know what I might be getting into?" Matt asked more awake. He sat up a bit on the couch.
" I need you to hack into a company's server. I need some of the records there, but their Firewall is a bitch to crack- I can crack into it but not without leaving a trace."
Matt mulled his options over for a bit then agreed. It wasn't often Mello asked for his help. When he did it either led to two things: one, trouble, or two, a very satisfied Mello for the next couple of days. The man had as much pride as one could carry, so it was a big thing for him to ask for help.
" Yeah, okay. When do you want me to come over?" The youngest said sitting up on the couch completely, swinging his legs to the front of the couch.
" Now. The sooner the better."
" Right." Standing up he pocketed his cigarettes and lighter. " You're at L's right?"
" I'll text you the address."
Matt pinched up his face a bit. He seriously felt as if he was forgetting something really important. His eyes widened considerably upon his realization. Feeling as if Mello would hang up soon Matt called out for the blonde to wait.
" What is it..."
" I...can't..."
He could literally feel Mello's glare through the phone and picked up he was now annoyed at the sudden change by the snapping in his voice.
" Why can't you?"
" I...kinda-got caught up in something."
" I don't have time for this, Matt."
" Sorry, Mello-"
" What is it? You have whore or something over? Kick her out." He stated bluntly.
" No. I do have a girl over though... but she's - it's- how do I explain this...?" He murmured the last part to himself. Deciding the best way to explain would be to start from the beginning, he told Mello of his first encounter of the strange pinkette yesterday, and all throughout his tale Mello never spoke.
" She's sleeping in my room right now..."
Mello said nothing and Matt begun to worry.
" I...this is strange... Konoha...?" He said quietly. "I've never heard anything of the sort."
" I thought so."
" ...I'll call you right back." Without any warning he hung up leaving Matt half ready to go and standing in his foyer.

Not having any clean clothes except the ones Matt had lent to Sakura, he decided to go out and buy the girl clothes. They had to leave as soon as possible.
Sakura on the other hand, like any other wise shinobi, decided to use this time to scope out her savior. She did not know anything about this guy, for all she knew he could be a criminal, and if he was she needed to prepare herself regardless of all that he's done for her.
When he had left she waited an appropriate amount of time to make sure he was gone then went to investigate his room. Going back to last night, she was way too tired to care what was going on around her. She couldn't even remember where her cat went, but now she was wide awake and certainly alert.
Opening the wooden door she skimmed the room and made her way towards the double door closet. Pulling the doors open she was shocked to see nothing there. The closest was empty.
'What the hell?' Confused she moved to the chest that was infront of the bed. Kneeling down in front of it she popped the lid up only to be met with empty space.
'This is his house right? So where the hell is everything? '
Jogging out of the room she walked into the kitchen and flung open the cabinets. Dust.
Shutting them she tried the refrigerator. She started at the pizza boxes and carton of orange juice and eggs. Shutting the door and she started to slowly walk out of the kitchen in thought.
' Maybe he just moved in?...Maybe...'
After her many years of being a shinobi she learned to always question everything and never trust completely, but the man was very hospitable and easy going. She would hate it if he wasn't who he appeared to be, then again she should be used to disappointment by now.
Plopping herself on the couch, she bent over and placed her hand on her face, elbows supporting her head.
What was going on? She was confused beyond belief. Being taken in she decided to play along in this strange fanasty. She answered his questions. She accepted his kind hospitality. And during the duration he was gone she would figure out whatever this is- starting with the last bit of memory she held.
Closing her eyes, Sakura tried to think back on the last thing she remembered since waking up in that alley. Naruto...she remembered Naruto sending her off...somewhere? Well, what was she doing? Concentrating and backtracking she abruptly came to a halt when she felt a ridiculous amount of pressure on her head. Gasping she put her hands to her head in pain. The more she concentrated on stopping the pain the worse it got. Gritting and clenching her teeth she let out a little whine and involuntary dug her fingernails into her scalp. She saw white spots on her eyelids and blood red blurred her vision.
In one moment flashes of her once loved teammate came across her eyes. His icy cold exterior, his flawless white skin, his feminine features and ebony locks that cheated hearts. On the outside he seemed like nothing but a delicate flower but once one got close, one got cut. You got cut, and shredded, and destroyed until nothing was left even your sanity. And those eyes, his eyes like an eternal labyrinth. They could search through your lies and make you feel fear.
Sakura begun to shiver, and then she saw him-she saw him lunge at her, he laughed so cruelly, his words choked her, but she couldn't make them out. She saw Naruto's tear stained face try to smile. She saw blood and heard wails and screams, then nothing. All she felt was pain.
Opening her eyes she felt herself on the ground breathing heavily and sweating with a shadowed figure looming above her speaking.
"-ura. Sakura?" Matt spoke worried.
Her blurred vision cleared and she noticed the figure was Matt. She noted he didn't have his goggles on, but the lights were off.
Matt was starting to feel a little awkward looming over her in this silence. In the back of his mind he knew he had to get going and that should pull back and hand the girl her clothes but that feeling was back. It was the same feeling he got when they were talking last night and she brought up his phone. She was starting to unnerve him and he was getting uncomfortable with that. Her sudden appearance and, now looking in her eyes, he saw too much innocence...but he knew she was dangerous. He just knew it. If Mello ever taught him anything in life it was to trust youself and your instincts.
Finally getting up from her he stood up and picked up a plastic bag with clothes he had thrown off to the side in his rush to get to the small girl.
Taking out the grey sweater, dark blue jeans, and size seven converse he turned back to the now sitting pinkette.
" I got you new clothes and shoes. I have to do something today, and I would like it if you came with me." He tried.
Sakura was very skeptical, or as skeptical as she could be given what had happened earlier. She still knew nothing of the man and had no idea where she was, and she was doubtful he would leave her here by herself for the whole day. He probably didn't even want to leave her for that thirty minute time gap if it wasn't for her inability to go out in public. But she had no where else to go, nothing else to do. She shrugged it off, surprising even herself, and accepted the clothes and shoes.
After getting dressed Sakura exited the bathroom where she discarded the dirty clothes in the woven hamper and shut the door behind her. Matt had put his googles on and now had on a frayed vest, black scarf, and black trench coat. He turned to look at Sakura and asked if she were ready to go. She nodded slightly and furrowed her brows a bit but said nothing. He pivoted on his foot then stopped. He made a sound, then the slapping of skin made Sakura flinch. She was suddenly forced to move off to the side as Matt made a bee-line to his room.
Sakura tried not to look behind her as the sound of rummaging and footsteps filled her ears. She hesitantly looked behind her then swiftly faced forward as the ruckus came to a halt.
Slow footsteps exited, silently closed the door, and made their way to her. He stopped behind her and drapped a jacket around her slender shoulders. Sakura jumped upon the sudden and unexpected contact.
" It's...cold." Matt said stepping around the frozen girl. "Let's go."
All the way, all two miles, and two busses to L's headquarters, Matt was feeling a bit...nervous? Worried? Suspicious? What was the feeling? He glanced at to his right to where the stray he picked up seemed to be oblivious to her sudden doom. Why did L allow for her to tag along? Well, technically speaking- Mello allowed it, but damn, L. He shook his head slightly and gave a small puff.
Mello never really had any qlams about his face anymore after the Kira incident some years back as long as they didn't know his name and he had a thorough background check on whomever he was meeting with, but L was a bit more hypersensitive about his surroundings- hence the million dollar security equipment. He supposed it made the insomniac feel somewhat at ease, but he didn't sleep as often as he usually did- considering he already had close to none-but now he hardly slept for weeks on end. Matt conjured the possibility that it had something and everything to do with Light Yagami.
Softening his eyes a bit he looked up and noticed they were close to their destination. He was sure Sakura wouldn't get a chance to see L. Hell, he didn't get to see the guy until he was seventeen and that was because of a dire situation. If she did see him well- he huffed.
Sakura looked at the brown haired man with a glistening of guilt. She felt bad. Here she was- a freeloader now, and he had to take her everywhere he went. This was not a good feeling, albeit it was temporary until she got a chance to...escape from whatever this was, but it was all the same. She was a bum and that soured her mood. Sulking a bit she stopped once she noticed Matt had stopped and pulled out his phone.
" We're here." He spoke into the phone. "Yeah...umm...right..." Matt rolled his eyes, hung up his phone, and looked into curious green eyes.
" We're entering the building from the back."
'The back?'
Matt had found it a pain to go in through the back way but sighed in relief when he stepped into the parking garage and out of the ferocious and furious wind. Sakura hugged the leather jacket around her body tighter as the two walked towards a set of automatic doors. Stepping up to them the doors parted which made Sakura gasp and flinch backwards, her danger warnings going off. Matt's head whirled to to meet her eyes.
" What's wrong?" He asked mildly perplexed.
" Ah-uhm...n-nothing. It's fine, I'm fine." She stumbled and quickly strolled past him, arms still clinging around her. His eyes narrowed in on her retreating figure.
'Mello...'
Snapping out of his thoughts he hurried and moved forward to their predestination. Passing the...now obliterated security system Matt had frowned in disappointment while Sakura was unsure of how she should've felt. It was clear something had happened, and from the look at Matt's face it wasn't good. Due to her natural curiosity she felt the need to ask.
"What...happened?"
He didn't turn to look at her as he touched one of the blown up walls.
" Mello..." He whispered bitterly. Sakura furrowed her brows in confusion of his answer. Was that a name or something?
"Huh?" He seemed to snap out of whatever daze he was in and took his hand off the wall as if it had shocked him. "What caused this?" She inquired. Matt stepped over the ruin, Sakura following suit.
"A Gun...a man with a gun." He echoed in what it sounded to Sakura as disbelief.
'What was a gun?' She thought.
Well, whatcha think? Please let me know in a review or p.m ;))
