Chapter 10: Foxes and dogs.
A group of boys walked importantly down the school hallway, led by a tall white haired beauty. His hair fell to his shoulder blades and was pulled back at the base of his head. The girls they passed chatted excitedly about the leader, while the boys simply glared. From the other end of the hall, a girl the same age, with long, straight black hair, stalked up to the group. She was flanked by a boy, also with beautiful, though thick, white hair, and a girl, who had white hair with two natural chunks of black on either side of her head near her face, her fringe was also white. Behind these three trailed a cheerful girl with short, curly brown hair and brown eyes.
The two groups came to face off, the tall golden eyed boy staring into the girl's hard, determined hazel eyes. He stood right on top of her, hoping to make her back down. She stood, in her skirt, singlet top and sandals, staring up at the taller boy until he sighed, his baggy band t-shirt sagging on his shoulders. His blue-jean clad legs stepped backwards.
"What do you want?" he asked, crossing his arms.
"For your pathetic friends to leave and for you to come with us," she answered.
"And, Izayoi, if I don't want to?" he asked, bored.
"Stop acting cool, Inushago, and come with us," the girl flanking Izayoi said.
"You can't move me and you know it, Shimi," he replied smugly.
"Not alone, but together we can, brother, and you know it," the other white haired boy said. Inushago laughed.
"Oh, Shoma! What are you and Shimi supposed to be? bodyguards? I mean look at the way you dress! You certainly look the part!" Fushimi and Fushoma both wore cargo pants and a muscle shirt. Shimi wore black pants and a green top, while her little brother wore white pants and a red top. While they didn't exactly match, they did look very similar. Inushago's friends laughed with him until they all heard a small voice.
"Please, big brother. I don't want them to humiliate you," the girl at the back said. Shago stopped laughing and looked at his innocent little sister. Her brown eyes pleaded and tugged at his gold ones until, finally, he sighed.
"I'll catch up with you guys later. I gotta go." Said friends grumbled as they walked away. "What do you want?" the oldest brother asked again,
"We went and say the principal," Izayoi started.
"To get me out of trouble?" Shago asked, hopefully.
"No, Shago. That's your problem," Shimi replied.
"You fix it," Shoma retorted.
"He's gonna let us perform some songs at the next assembly," Daiki said happily from behind.
"What?" Shago was stunned. "But, with my record that should be impossible!"
"That's actually what got us in. he said if we perform two songs each assembly, you don't have to go to detention," Izayoi explained.
"Yes!" Shago literally jumped for joy.
"But," Shoma interrupted.
"But?" Shago asked as he stopped dancing.
"If you get in trouble again, we stop performing," Daiki said.
"And if that happens, brother, I swear I will kick your ass," Fushimi threatened.
"But!" The older boy was stared into silence by his younger siblings. Ever since they had all begun to learn music and formed their band, they had been looking for a chance to perform. They weren't about to let their brother screw it up. Even if they were only ten. The bell rang, signaling the end of school for the day and the week.
"Come on, guys," Izayoi said turning to leave.
"I see Fluffy by the gate!" Daiki babbled excitedly.
"I can't believe that after school we are baby sat by a dog until we get to Grandma's," Shago moaned.
"Oh, get over it. I, for one, am glad for his company," Fushimi said flatly.
"Me too," Shoma agreed. 'The Twins' as they were known, shot angry glares at their elder brother's back.
"I can feel you guys staring at me. Could you stop?" Shago asked rudely.
"What's the magic word?" Shimi shot back, still glaring.
"Now!" Shago growled.
"Wrong," Shoma said flatly.
"Fine. Please?" Sarcasm dripped from the word, but it was the one they wanted. The twins smiled and began talking to each other.
Shago began to feel left out. Not only were his little brother and tom-boy sister chatting away, so too were his girly sister and, as far as he was concerned, wanna-be-ice sister. It was going to be a long walk to Grandma's.

Kagome walked tiredly up the steps to the shrine. It was five o'clock on a Friday afternoon, which meant that tomorrow was the weekend. Her time. She could hide in the castle where she had forbidden the pups to go and relax. The huge library and read or perhaps restore the Great Inushago's private garden for the enjoyment of his sons and grandchildren. Either way, she could relax. But now? Now she had to finish climbing these infernal stairs.
She walked toward the house, making a detour so she passed the well. She stopped for a moment, looking at the large wooden doors. She looked around slowly to check if she was being watched. She walked up to the doors, opened them and went inside. She descended the familiar stair down to the well, leant on the side and looked down into it. Just as she was about to jump in, a voice stopped her.
"Kagome. If it was open, he would have come through and started looking for you. You said yourself that he's that stubborn he won't give up 'til he gets back to your side. Come on. Stop dwelling on the past. You look tired. I'll give you and the pups a lift home if you like, just come out here, please?"
Kagome turned to look at the young man that was her brother. in a way, she envied him. He was able to finish school, go to Uni and was about to start a very-well paying job at one of the big companies down town. He wasn't a twenty seven year old drop out who had had quintuplets. But, she was happy, even if the only thing she deeply wished for was the love of her life back by her side. She needed him. His pups needed him. Badly. She sighed, slowly climbed the steps and walked out of the well house, closing the large wooden doors behind her.
"Thanks for the ride, Souta. I have just had a draining day at work, and walking home is too much of a chore right now. Besides, the pups will be excited about getting a ride home from their uncle." Kagome smiled contentedly at her brother.
"Wow! Work must have been hell for it to have drained you and made you tired!" Souta marveled. He knew his sister purposefully worked long shifts. It was to drain her energy enough for her to sleep at night.
"Yea. Do you mind if I pre-order some pizza's and we pick them up on the way? I'm not in the mood to cook."
"Fine by me," Souta replied as they walked into the lounge room together.
"Mum! Uncle Souta!" They were tackled by four excited pups while the older one walked over as he nodded his sour-faced head.
"Ok, pups. Grab the phone and order pizzas. Uncle Souta is going to hake us home in the car." The twins were gone and fighting over who would be first before Shago snatched the phone from between them.
"In order, you dogs," he growled as they looked angrily at him. Kagome just smiled. She loved to just sit and watched her kids, even if they were fighting. It reminded her of her love.

A man dressed in red with white hair, white puppy ears and golden eyes looked sadly at the well. Ten years. Ten and a half long years without the raven haired, chocolate eyed woman he loved, by his side. He sighed sadly. He had no ides why he was still living sometimes. He had tried to thought about and tried to take his life several times but, somehow, that pesky, mangy wolf would always talk him out of it. And although Inuyasha didn't like the man, he respected him.
He sighed again as he smelt and sensed 'his' even more pesky advisors nearby. The advisors of the Western Lands had come on hands and knees ten years ago, when they learned of Sesshomaru's death. Needing a leader, as Sesshomaru had left no heir, they had sought him out. He had dismissed them, saying he didn't care for the title nor the responsibilities and to go find some other fool. That had changed tactics and tricked him into giving them orders, and now seemed to use it on him each time they saw him and he hadn't caught on. Even now, he still fell for it.
"Get lost, you old bags of bones, before I rip your heads off!" he shouted to his forest. He smiled when he felt them leave. He wasn't in the mood to be hassled right now.
"I hope you won't rip my head off, old man," laughed a familiar voice from beneath him. He inhaled deeply through his nose.
"What are you doing here, Kit?"
"Just visiting. Or is that a crime in your lands, My Lord?" a now eighteen year old Shippo laughed.
"You definitely got more annoying as you grew up," Inuyasha commented. Shippo smiled before jumping up to join the man he respected and admired deeply.
"Hasn't opened yet, has it?" he said looking to the well.
"No, it opened and I went and saw her and we had a huge fight and so I came back alone." Sarcasm flowed heavily from each word. "What do you think, you stupid Runt?"
"You know, I'm glad I moved away with Miroku and Sango. They were right, you have become impossible, even just to visit with, let alone live with. You'll probably never get through and rot away here. However, that being said, I respect your determination, but you need to get over it and move on. You're not the only one that misses her. We all do! I do! She was like a second mother to me while she was here, and I looked to you like a boy looks to his father. But in all your years of sitting here and dwelling over the past and not moving on, you've become pathetic and weak. And I have lost all respect for you. She would not want you to waste away like this, but she also wouldn't want you to forget about her. Now, I'm leaving. I hope you come to your senses and reality soon, Inuyasha. It's annoying and heartbreaking to see you like this every time I visit. Did you know I am the only one to come see you anymore? You've driven everybody else off in your obsession to get Kagome back. After our visits, Miroku walks around half out of it and Sango cries every night for a month as she goes to sleep. Rin doesn't want o do anything and Kohaku lives in a trance, both for varying lengths of time. Your mood can be felt all the way back at Kaede's village and I am the one who ahs to gather up our broken friends, who are broken because of you, and herd them home and I'm tired of it, Inuyasha!" Shippo was talking himself into a rage, and out of the blue, turned as he swung and hit Inuyasha squarely in the left side of his jaw. The half demon fell from his perch in the Goshinboku to the ground below. His face showed shock as he held his throbbing jaw and looked up at the thin, handsome fox demon standing on the branch above him, rage radiating from the fox's body.
"I have so much more to say to you. But I know it will end up with us at fists and I don't have time for that. Not with the pathetic half demon I once hoped would be my father. Goodbye, Inuyasha. I'm leaving and I just may never come back for another visit."
"Good," Inuyasha growled, scowling at the fox. Shippo glared back at the shattered man below him before jumping off through the trees. Inuyasha lay back on his back, looking at the late evening sky through the boughs of the Goshinboku, thinking seriously on what Shippo had said to him. As the hours crept quickly by, he became ashamed of his behavior as he began to realize that what was said, was truth. He closed his eyes as he thought more.
"Don't think too hard, Inuyasha. You may hurt yourself." Inuyasha opened his eyes to see several soul collectors floating back and forth through the air. He sat up and smiled, as he came to a decision.
'The Kit is right about one thing. It is definitely time to move on.'
