Chapter Ten- A Swan Song

His Blue-eyed Muse stopped coming to the bridge, and truthfully, it took a while for Percy to notice. The Thaw and the Scorching time had passed, and the Gathering was well under way, before he realized the truth. Staring at the old tree, trying to remember when he last saw his Blue-eyed Muse, Percy was surprised to hear his Majesty's voice.

"The Dark One has migrated and the Little Lorelai has left the Lakeland. She who is The Most Beautiful, The Most Illustrious Sparrow, Her Highness of the Blue Haven of Intelligentsia sent a response via messenger duck to my request for information. The Little Lorelai is indeed ensconced within the ivy walls of Her Beatific's dominion."

"Is my Bl- is the Little Lorelai well?" Percy asked, confused. He had expected to feel joy at the Dark One's migration. Instead, he only worried his love would be distraught. As distraught as his Sue.

"No, the Little Lorelai has shut her emotions down. She has turned herself off, as you have. I can only imagine the Dark One is reacting the same as your Sue," the Little King replied.

"What do you mean? Reacting the same as my Sue! He's nothing like my Sue!" Percy squawked indignantly.

"You are correct. They are different, yet the same response is the logical outcome. They are both searching for meaning, for purpose in what has been a harsh world. They both love deeply, wanting to do what's right, yet not knowing how. They both made mistakes, and can't comprehend how to fix them. They aren't communicating, only running from the pain of loving too much. Open yourself to life, and pain, and love, Percy. Wake up to your emotions. Force your Sue to talk, to stop running. Or you will lose your Sue, as the Little Lorelai has lost the Dark One. Soon Sue will take flight, and keep flying, not knowing where she's going, what she'll do when she gets there or how she'll live."

Percy swam the edge of the lake, contemplating His Most Royal Personage's advice. The Benevolent Steve was correct about himself and his Sue. Her angst was so deep, she wasn't even dealing with her day to day responsibilities. Immersing herself in menial tasks which provided her sustenance, but not a secure future. Percy swam to the area where he knew he'd find her. Hidden amongst the reeds, as far away from their nesting site as she could find. With his wings and his chattering beak, he drove her to the other side of the lake, to where he had laid their eggs to rest. The Lakeland was empathetic in its quietness. Sue hung her head, eyes closed.

The hush was palpable as Percy did something unprecedented.

Percy began to sing.

A/N- Short, I know, but I really loved the next piece separate. I will however, post it right away. Don't forget to review. Did the parallels between Jess and Sue work for you?
