"Beck." Both girls say, staring at the Canadian, worry in both sets of eyes. "What are you doing here?" Tori asks, staring from him to Jade.
"Just walking around. Getting some coffee before heading to my apartment." Beck answers, staring at both girls with a questioning brow. "What were you two talking about?" He asks, looking between the two.
"Nothing." Tori says quickly, looking down to hide a blush. "I got to go. One of my students asked for extra lessons." She says, Jade catching the lie since Tori would have said something sooner. "See you later Jade. Beck." She says, giving both a quick smile before heading out.
"That was weird." Jade says silently, watching Tori leave the building. "What do you want Beck?" She asks, now facing Beck again.
"Can we talk?" He asks, staring at her.
"You didn't get the message earlier when we walked away from you? No, we can't talk." Jade says going to leave after tossing some money on the table to pay for breakfast.
"I want to be in my son's life." Beck says, following Jade out. "He deserves to know his father." He says, anger in his tone, as he grabs Jade's elbow and turns her around.
"You lost that right when you kicked me out when I told you. You are his sperm donor, not his father." Jade says, glaring at Beck.
"Jade, please." Beck says when Jade pulls her arm away from him. "Can I at least have a chance to prove how wrong I was back then? A chance to prove I can be his father?" Beck begs, eyes wide with hope as he stares at Jade.
"Why? Why after four years do you suddenly care about this?" Jade asks, staring at him.
"Because I was wrong, and it took me so long to realize it. I thought you got pregnant on purpose. That you didn't take your birth control on purpose. I didn't know you ran out. And I know now it's my fault. You tried to tell me you were out after one of our dates, but I wouldn't listen." He says, staring at Jade.
"Then what about after? What about when you kept begging for sex, and I kept saying no? Why were you so adamant on fucking me when I was against it?" Jade growls out, glaring fiercer at him.
"You didn't try to stop me." Beck counters, stopping himself before he says more to hurt himself. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way." He says, not looking away from Jade. "Please. One chance to know my son." He says, begging again.
"No. You lost any right to that the day you kicked me out, claiming I did it to ruin you." Jade says, backing away. "If you want to see my son, you're going to need papers signed by a judge and whoever else to see him." Jade says, not realizing she just gave Beck a way to see her son. "Goodbye Beck." She says, walking past him, heading towards her apartment.
After a quicker walk than it took to get to the diner from her apartment, due to Jade's rush to get away from Beck, she makes it to the door to her apartment, key out, ready to go in, when she hears crying.
"I'm afraid." Jade hears faintly from inside. "What if he convinces her to let him see Jason? Or worse, convince her to go out with him again?" Jade hears, recognizing the voice as Tori's. Opening the door cautiously, Jade walks in and locks the door behind her, surprised Tori hasn't noticed. "I know he wants her back. And I'm afraid she does too. I know she still has feeling for him. I could see it in her eyes when we first saw him at the apartment lobby." Tori says, her back to Jade. Based on how her left hand is to her ear, Jade can tell she's on her phone. "Cat, you know how Jade is. Just because she knows and is okay that I'm gay, doesn't guarantee anything. So what if she doesn't mind? I made a huge mistake telling her I like her." Tori says, starting to cry.
'What the hell?' Jade asks herself as she watches Tori. 'Is that why she was so quick to leave the diner when we saw Beck? Is she afraid I was going to date him again? After what he did when I told him I was pregnant?'
"She's not gay, Cat. Or bi." Tori says, using her right hand to wipe tears from her eyes. "So what if we're like best friends now? She won't return my feelings. Besides, she won't even consider dating because she wants to spend as much time as she can with Jason, and the whole thing with Beck now isn't helping." Tori adds, sniffling.
'She really thinks all of that?' Jade asks herself, hurt that Tori would think that.
"I'm gonna go. One of my students asked him I could give him and extra lesson today since he doesn't have school. I'll talk to you later Cat." Tori says, hanging up her phone.
"I can't believe you think I would get back with Beck after what happened." Jade says, scaring Tori.
"When did you get back?" Tori asks, afraid of the anger in Jade's eyes and tone.
"In time to hear you telling Cat you're afraid of Beck convincing me to let him see Jason and date me again." Jade says, doing something she hasn't done to Tori since high school, glare at her.
"I need to go." Tori whispers, walking past Jade, her tone sad and fearful.
"No. We're talking about this now." Jade says, grabbing Tori's arm, unconscionably repeating Beck's exact action earlier.
"I already agreed to give the extra lesson, and his parents are paying me double since it's not a regular time. We need the money. Let me go." Tori says, pulling her arm away from Jade. "Why do you care about it anyway? You've clearly reverted back to High School Jade." She says with an unusual amount of venom in her voice, walking past Jade and leaving, slamming the door on her way out.
'What the hell just happened?' Jade asks herself, staring at the door in concern and awe at Tori's actions.
Sorry for the ending and for it being a bit short. I'll try to make them longer, but I can't guarantee I will.
The comment Jade said about Beck being Jason's sperm donor is something I got from my oldest brother. All I'll say is things between him and our dad aren't good, so my brother calls our dad his sperm donor, not his dad.
