Chapter 10: The Hulkbuster

Gamma Base

Time: 1418 h

Devil Hulk withdrew his hand and Betty fell to the ground. Her chest did not rise or fall. All the life was gone from her body. No one move as they stared at the Hulk waiting for the storm. His jaw hung open and his face only held one emotion, horror. Hulk face morphed into a mask of anger.

Devil Hulk smiled as Hulk began to shake with rage. Hulk began to roar and delivered a massive uppercut to Devil Hulk's chin. Devil Hulk fell onto his back in shock but was to slow to stop the Hulk. She-Hulk and A-Bomb looked on horror as Hulk began to beat the life out of Devil Hulk.

Every time Devil Hulk would try to sit up or stand Hulk would begin to hit the monster even harder. The ground around them was shaking from the force of the punches directed at Devil Hulk's head. Devil Hulk raised a hand to push Hulk away. Just as the hand was about to reach him Hulk turned and punched it with all his strength. Everyone in the room could hear the sound of bones snapping as Devil Hulk screamed in pain.

A-Bomb, She-Hulk, and General Ross could see one of the broken bones protruding from Devil Hulk's arm. Devil Hulk made a swipe with his other hand only to have the fingers in that had shattered by another punch. Hulk then reached down and placed on hand on each half of Devil Hulk's jaw. Devil Hulk began to shake his head violently but Hulk slammed it in to the ground.

"Only monster is you!" Hulk growled. With one final shove downward Hulk force the jaw open and drove the bottom jaw into Devil Hulk's brain. Hulk was beyond any kind of control now though. As the body returned to that of his father Hulk brought a massive fist down on the man's skull.

She-Hulk and A-Bomb took a stunned step back. Hulk roared with his pain as he jump through the floor and roof above and into the New Mexican desert.

"Sir, Agent Barton is on the line," Hill said.

"Good put him on screen," Director Fury said. As soon as Barton was on screen Fury launched into him. "Care to explain why you have gone to the Hulks with the news about Leader?"

"Excuse me for not wanting to be at the receiving end of Hulk's anger when he found out that SHIELD knew Leader had Betty Ross and didn't tell him," Barton said.

"We were going to tell him in a few days anyway Barton."

"As it was Leader still beat me there."

"What?" Fury said.

"When I arrived at the Hulks' camp I found a tablet with a message from the Leader. Bruce had already left for Gamma Base."

"Where is he now?"

"Retrieving Betty Ross."

"Do the other Hulks know you showed up?"

"Yes, I took them to Gamma Base."

"We will talk more when you get back to headquarters."

"Yes, si…" Barton began. He turned his head like he heard something and looked out the side of the helicopter. "Oh shi…" There was the sound of ripping metal and a roar. Fire engulfed the screen and the image vanished. The sound however remained.

"They could hear the roaring of the Hulk and what sounded like She-Hulk trying to calm him down. Fury heard the chopper collide with the ground.

"Hawkeye," a voice that must have been A-Bomb's said.

"I'm alright," Fury sighed in relief. "What is going on?" Hawkeye asked.

"Betty is dead."

"BRUCE LISTEN TO ME. YOU HAVE TO CALM DOWN. SMASHING ISN'T GOING TO…HUH," She-Hulk yelled before groaning. Hulk roar and it began to grow quieter as he must have been moving away.

Fury was silent for a moment. "Get me Stark on the line now!" he yelled.

Seconds later Stark was on the screen. "To what do I owe this pleas…"

"Get the Hulkbuster ready and send it to New Mexico. Hulk is on the rampage."

Las Vegas, Nevada

Time: 1500 h

The approach of the Hulk could be heard even over the traffic on noise of Vegas. It's citizens looked around for the sound of the roar they were hearing. When Hulk was finally it was as Caesar's Palace began to fall. His arrive had taken out the main support column and the building was falling into the street. People scream and ran as the Hulk began to smash Sin City.

Before the legendary hotel could fully tumble however a the monster A-Bomb arrived and held the building up as She-Hulk helped people evacuate. As soon as everyone was clear of the building A-Bomb let the building crumble. She-Hulk and A-Bomb began trying to lead Hulk away from the city but he was determined to demolish the Sphinx. A-Bomb punched Hulk and sent the green monster flying of the sculpture.

Hulk roared as he picked up a car and through it at A-Bomb. The car exploded and A-Bomb charged through the rubble at the out of control Hulk. She-Hulk was dancing around Hulk throwing punches and jabs the only seemed to make Hulk madder. "LEAVE…ME…ALONE!" Hulk screamed at them. Neither of his friends listened and continued trying to pull him away from the city.

A-Bomb launched a massive right hook. Hulk caught the blue arm and swung A-Bomb into the ground. Once A-Bomb was on the ground Hulk unleashed a volley of punches that sent cracks rocketing through the ground and tumbled the Luxor Pyramid. She-Hulk jumped in and attempted to help A-Bomb but was knocked aside by the Hulk.

When She-Hulk landed she was in the middle of the Bellagio Fountains. Hulk was now tearing the Vegas Eifel Tower to the ground. A-Bomb was standing shaking his head and stumbling. He and She-Hulk leapt at the Hulk just as the Eifel Tower fell. A-Bomb knocked She-Hulk out of the way and caught the falling tower. "Distract Hulk," A-Bomb yelled as he gently lowered the tower the rest of the way to the ground.

She-Hulk looked around and her eyes fell on a massive Ford F-650. She walked over and grabbed the bumper. She lifted the truck up and spun in a circle before letting truck go. It went sailing through the air and exploded on the Hulk. Hulk turned to She-Hulk and bellowed before charging. She-Hulk jumped over Hulk and began to dance around him landing blows and slowly drawing him away from the city.

A-Bomb was just about to jump in and help when Hulk move with speed unlike he had ever shown and batted She-Hulk away. She-Hulk when flying through the air toward A-Bomb who caught her and set he on her feet. "How are we going to get him away from the city if he just keeps knocking us aside?" She-Hulk asked.

A-Bomb shook his head as they began to hear the sound of a jet. The two Hulks turned and looked into the sky in the distance. Flying toward them was something similar to a missile. As it got closer however they recognized Iron Man. "I thought he quit?" She-Hulk said.

Before A-Bomb could answer the suit's feet touched the ground as it began to run toward them. It didn't look like any of the Iron Man suits Stark had worn before. This was taller, about eight feet. It was broader also. It looked most like the Iron Monger suit that had destroyed the Stark Industries facility. It looked like a mechanical, red and gold Hulk. The head was covered in a massive dome and its hands were the size of tires. As it thundered toward them the suit flung car after car out of its way.

When it was ten feet away from them they realized this suit was going to try to fight them. It pulled back one of its massive fists and sent it rocketing toward She-Hulk. Just as the hand was about to collide with her she heard a piston engage and the fist came at her even faster. The force of the punch sent her flying back toward Hulk who was busy demolishing the MGM Grand.

When she looked back She-Hulk looked back at the metal Hulk she saw the fist withdrawing back into the armor. A-Bomb was now trying to push the suit back but incredibly the suit was keeping up with ease. Every time it through a punch the fist would shoot out of the end before retracting once again.

She-Hulk launched herself at the new enemy. She collided with the mass of metal and managed to send a few feet back before it regained its footing. There was a clicking sound and a fire hose like nozzle rose over the suits shoulder. Green mist shot out of the end and right into She-Hulk's face. Almost immediately She-Hulk went limp and fell to the ground as she returned to her human form.

A-Bomb let out a bellow and charged. The Hulkbuster raised his hand in a fist that was directed at A-Bomb. Flaps opened all around the mechanical are and round, green pellets shot out and managed to embed themselves in A-Bomb's skin. The monster fell to its knees and slowly turned back into Rick Jones and fell unconsciousness.

Hulkbuster turned to the last Hulk. Hulk was no turning down a road that lead to the Lotus Hotel and Casino. Hulkbuster rocketed toward the green monster. Hulk turned as he heard the approach and launched himself at the mechanical monstrosity. The shockwave from their collision put cracks in the pavement and for the two back in the directions they had come from.

Hulkbuster landed on his feet and began to run at Hulk as he began to stand. Hulkbuster pulled back a fist and with a blast a repulsor on his elbow kicked on. The piston he had us again She-Hulk and A-Bomb engaged and Hulkbuster began to fight Hulk. Each matched the other blow for blow. Hulkbuster managed to grab Hulk by the back of his head and forced it down as one of his boots rocketed up. Between the piston in Hulkbuster's knee and the RT that propelled the foot, the blow was defining.

Hulk was barely phased though as retaliated by ripping the piston out of the armor. Hulkbuster stumbled back before continuing his attack. He and Hulk charged each other once more and their massive hands looked. Each was trying to overpower the other but neither seemed able to achieve their goal. There was a clicking sound on Hulkbuster's back. Suddenly two repulsor cannons flipped up and began to pepper Hulk with blasts until he pulled back.

Hulkbuster held up his right hand up and with a window shattering blast Hulk stumbled back as the RT beam hit him. Hulk shook his head and began to march toward Hulk buster. From ten feet away he heard the sound of something charging before the eight inch chest RT let out a massive unibeam that sent Hulk flying.

When Hulk landed he immediately charged Hulkbuster. Hulkbuster began to grab cars and SUVs that her hurled at the Green Scar. Hulk roared as her ripped through each one of them. But as soon as he was within striking range Hulk faced two nozzles like Hulkbuster had used on She-Hulk. Hulkbuster also held both arms up as Hulk was barraged with the pellets and vapor.

Hulk was stopped in his tracks as his angry roars turned to moans and he was forced back into his human form. Hulkbuster dropped his arms and the nozzles retreated into the suit. People began to filter out of the building and look around at the demolished city. As their eye fell on Hulkbuster they began to cheer for Iron Man.

"I am not Iron Man," Happy Hogan yelled from under the suit. "I am Hulkbuster."

The crowd was silent until an old man with glasses and a hat that said "Excelsior" yelled, "LET'S HEAR IT FOR HULKBUSTER!"

Hulkbuster waved before he picked up the unconscious, humanized Hulks and flew off to who knows where.

Helicarrier over the Atlantic

Days Since The Las Vegas Incident: 1

Time: 1200 h

"It has now been little more than a day since the Hulks attack Las Vegas. The destruction here is massive. The only way to describe it is that it looks like a war zone. Tony Stark has confirmed that he was not the pilot of the Hulkbuster suit, but this attack has brought up many concerns about whether or not we can trust these so-called heroes and others like Maelstrom, Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow. Will they protect us? Or will they turn on us like the Hulks here in Las Vegas."

"Sir," Maria Hill called, "Captain Roger has just arrived.

"Good," Fury said as her turned and walked out of the room.

"I don't see why you wanted to meet out here, sir?" Steve Roger shouted over the wind.

"Less likely to be heard," Director Fury yelled back. "We cannot allow the Security Council to have control over the Hulks' punishment."

"What are you asking?"

"I have help set up a group of people who will deal with this type of problem. They will something like a judge and jury. There will be representatives from each group of heroes. I want you to represent the Super Soldier."

"Why me, sir?"

"I think you can be unbiased. The Illuminati need that and I am not sure how some of these will work together."

"So you want us to decide what to do about Banner?"

"Yes," Fury said as he held out a folder. "This will give you all the details. If you accept."

Steve was silent for a moment. "I accept."

Abandoned Warehouse in Chicago

Days Since The Las Vegas Incident: 3

Time: 2300 h

Steve Rodgers sat at the head of a round table. It wasn't a large table. It was just large enough to seat five people comfortably. Soon the other four should arrive and they could begin the discussion about the Hulks.

Three days ago the green monster had gone on rampage. Hulk had destroyed over seventy-five percent of Las Vegas. The other two monsters, She-Hulk and A-bomb had tried to calm him down but they had only ended up destroying more of the city. Finally the Hulkbuster was dispatched to subdue the monsters. The Hulkbuster suit was an eight foot tall monstrosity built by Tony Stark. The suit was strong enough to combat even the Hulk. Of course Stark didn't pilot the suit. He was done being Iron Man. Steve would find out who the pilot of Hulkbuster was today as he would be representing the Iron Legion.

The door at the end of the room opened and Natasha Romanoff walked in. She would be representing the Assassins. Black Widow took the seat to the right of Steve and said, "Good to see you Cap."

"Widow," Steve responded.

The door opened again and a girl with blonde hair walked in. She looked like the stereotypical California girl. The only thing that ruined the image were the grey eyes that made it seem like she was deciding how to destroy you. She took the seat on the other side of Natasha and said, "You must be Black Widow and Captain America?"

Natasha and Steve nodded. "You are?" Natasha asked.

"Wise Girl, leader of Omega Team." The two shook hands.

Steve stared at her until she began to look uncomfortable. "I'm sorry," He said, "I just thought you would be older."

Wise Girl smiled and said, "Don't worry, Cap. I've been in a few battles. None of which you have heard of."

The door opened for a third time and a boy in gold Roman style armor walked in. "Cyclone?" Steve asked. The man nodded as he took off his helmet. He too looked young and had blonde hair. There was a small scar on his upper lip and his eyes were a shocking electric blue.

He sat down at Steve's left and contented himself with glaring at Wise Girl who look determinedly at the table. The group heard the roar of a jet and a solid thumb above them. It was followed by the sound of heavy footsteps that made their way to the room.

The door opened and for the last time and the massive Hulkbuster walked in. The suit opened and allowed Happy Hogan to step out. The armor behind him fell into sever pieces and Happy walked to the table and sat down. Steve nodded in acknowledgement before he stood. "The Hulk is a danger," he said.

"All of them are a danger," Happy interjected.

"Yes, but what do we do about them," Natasha said.

"Whatever we do must be well thought out. We don't want to make him angrier and therefore stronger," said Wise Girl.

"Since when do you care about peoples' feeling," snarled Cyclone.

"Enough, keep your personal problems out of here," Steve interrupted.

"We could imprison them the same way Blonsky was," Natasha said.

"No he escaped. And these Hulks are stronger than him," Wise Girl said.

"If only we could send him somewhere," Steve thought.

"Space," Cyclone said, "We could send him to an empty planet where he will not be able to harm anyone. Send the others with him too."

"Not a bad idea," Happy commented.

"No it would just anger him and if he ever got back to earth we would all be in a world of hurt," Wise Girl countered.

"You have a better option?" Natasha said. Silence.

"Space is the best option," Steve said.

"No, it isn't!" Wise Girl said, "Sending him away will only make things worse. He lost someone close to him. Give him time to grieve and he will be fine."

"We cannot allow him to destroy more cities!" Cyclone yelled.

"Fine. Do as you want but I will have no part in it," Wise Girl snapped and she left the room.

"Hulkbuster can you get them loaded into a shuttle?" Steve asked. Happy nodded.

Within five hours the Incredible Hulks were loaded onto a shuttle that was aimed for a planet over twenty light-years away. It was only after the shuttle launched that they woke. Bruce was deadly silent.

"Bruce," Jen whispered, "I'm so sorry."

Bruce didn't say anything. "Where are we?" Rick asked.

Jen looked around and frowned. "I…I don't know," she said.

Jen and Rick walked around in the small room. Or at least they tried. After they started bouncing around and off the wall they began to realize what was going on. Bruce had still not moved. Rick managed to catch himself on a bar along the side of the room. As Jen soared by he caught her around the waist and brought her to a stop.

Bruce finally stood and walked to a TV screen at the far end of the room. Suddenly it came to life and the people began to speak.

"I think of you as a friend Bruce," Steve Rogers said, "But to protect earth we have to send you away."

"You are all a danger to everyone here," Hulkbuster said.

"If we thought we had another good option we would do it instead," Natasha said.

"As it stands it is best for humanity if the Hulks are banished," said the man She-Hulk knew was Cyclone.

"You will finally get what you wanted, to be alone," Steve said.

As the recording ended the Hulks lost control of their anger. They had been banished by people they thought they could trust. Banished because they were sad and angry that Betty Ross had been killed. In their anger they began to rip through the ship.

Lights flashed and alarms rang as a voice said, "Navigational Malfunction."

A-Bomb's fist ripped through the outer hull of the ship and the Hulks could see into space. The ship was spinning out of control. As the Hulks ripped the hole to an even larger gap. They caught a glimpse of something giant and black. It was only visible because of the lightning that danced around its edges.

Then they felt like they were being compressed. The pressure kept increasing. Then it was gone. Suddenly they were falling and with an earth shattering crash they slammed into something.

The Hulks slowly emerged from their ruined ship. The first thing they saw was the grasshoppers. Giant, eight feet tall, grasshoppers. There were all carrying weapons and moving toward the Hulk in a way that could mean only one thing. They were going to attack. A-Bomb and She-Hulk tensed as they readied themselves.

Hulk smiled and said, "This is gonna be fun."
