Chapter 10: The Demon Clans

"When you suddenly disappeared, I had my brother search for you but I shouldn't have put faith on his tracking skills." Alina moved closer to Marshall and Fionna while the former Vampire King scooted closer to the heroine. Alina's gaze fixed itself on Fionna. Just like at the ballroom, Alina's pale grey eyes glared at the heroine and just like before, Fionna stood her ground. Marshall's fiancée snapped her fingers and the room was suddenly awash with light. Fionna blinked against the sudden brightness.

Alina switched her gaze to her fiancé. "May I ask why you're here with a tramp demon?"

"I caught her snooping around," answered Marshall. "She was about to leave." He made emphasis on the last statement.

Marshall grabbed Fionna's wrist and dragged her to the door. Before he could open it, the door suddenly burst open and Blaine stepped in.

"Hey, sis. Did you find—" His words were suddenly cut off when he saw Fionna. "Penny? What are you doing here?" He noticed her wrist being grasped and followed the owner of the hand. His eyes widened when he saw Marshall Lee. "Oh, crap. Your Highness." He bowed quickly. "I didn't realize that you-"

"Blaine," Alina interrupted. "Take…Penny and go. I'd like to talk to my fiancé alone."

Blaine glanced at Marshall for permission. The demon prince glared at him, but he reluctantly released Fionna's wrist. Alina's brother quickly bowed and grabbed Fionna's hand. "Let's go, Penny." As they were leaving, the heroine glanced back at Marshall. He was staring back at her, pain and worry etched deep into his eyes until he turned his head and closed the door.

Marshall didn't want to leave Fionna alone, especially with one of them. But he had no choice. If they saw how Fionna was more than a "demon tramp" then she would have been dead for sure. So, he had to give Fionna or Penny to Blaine, no matter how much he wanted to punch the kid on the throat.

But, what he really wanted to know most was how Alina managed to find him in the first place.

Marshall Lee turned his attention to his fiancée as he closed the door. "Can you make this quick? I've gotta eat before Julius eats the whole buffet again."

Alina raised one eyebrow. "And I thought vampires could only drink blood. I didn't think that they could stomach down regular food."

"I've had years of practice," Marshall said. "Besides, I don't drink blood."

"Oh, right. I've forgotten. The former Vampire King only drinks colors that are red." Alina shook her head. "Why do you deny your nature, Marshall? You are a vampire, so drink blood."

Marshall leaned against the doorway and crossed his arms and legs. "If there's one thing you want to learn about me is that I don't like taking orders."

"I am your queen and your fiancée. I think I have the right to give you orders."

Marshall smirked. "Just because you have the right, doesn't mean I have to obey. Besides you're not queen yet. And I don't give a damn if you're my fiancée. And at the moment, I'm still your Prince so that means my authority is much higher than yours." Marshall have never acknowledge himself as the Prince to all of the original damned, but being in the same room with one of them alone was pissing him off. Besides, he had important matters to take care of, like getting Fionna the hell away from here.

"I had come to an understanding that you and I will share the same power," Alina said.

"Yeah, when we get married," Marshall reminded her. "Right now, we haven't yet."

Alina sighed. "I suppose your right. But, as your fiancée, I would like to know as to why that demon girl had come upon your mother's private study."

"Like I said, she was just snooping around. It's not the first time that a lower level demon got into the wrong place at the wrong time."

My mom doesn't use it anymore anyways, Marshall thought.

"Oh?" Alina's voice had grown suspiciously sly. "Is that why you disappeared? To capture some demon girl who wouldn't mind her own business instead of letting the servants do that?"

Marshall narrowed his eyes. He knew that she was trying to force Marshall to mess up and spill his secrets but Alina wasn't the first to try to get into the mind of Marshall Lee. He pretended to act nonchalant and shrugged it off. "I was bored. Socializing with a bunch of stuck ups isn't exactly high on my to-do list."

"And chasing an unknown demon girl was?" Alina moved closer to Marshall. "Who was that tramp?"

Marshall rolled his eyes and sighed. He felt like he was a broken record tonight. "She's nobody and like I said before, she was just snooping around."

"Hmm. You'd think your mother would keep this place more secure. She must really be losing her touch if a lowly tramp could get in here so easily."

Marshall squeezed his arms, trying to clamp down on the rising anger. Alina would never get away from calling his mother weak. And calling Fionna a tramp? He seriously wished he could go full on vampire mode on her so she could know her place. Nobody insulted Fionna and his mother and gets away with it.

Wait. What was he thinking? Why would he care if his mother got insulted? He never had before.

Marshall turned his back on his fiancée and grabbed the door handle, trying to shake off the thoughts of his mother. After all, she was the one who got him into this situation in the first place.

"Are we done now?" he grumbled. "I'd like to eat before everything's gone."

"We'll continue this conversation later," Alina said.

"Save it for the wedding." With that, Marshall opened the door and floated out of the room.

Fionna didn't want to leave Marshall alone with that girl, but she had no choice. She followed Blaine back to the ballroom, their footsteps echoing in the hall. Blaine didn't speak anything as they descended down the steps. Fionna glanced at his back, wondering if she somehow hurt the demon boy. But that couldn't be right? Do demons even have feelings?

"Sorry about that," Blaine finally said.

Fionna was so surprised that she stopped at the last step. "Sorry? For what?"

Blaine turned around, looking up at her. "For my sister. She was pretty rude to you earlier."

Fionna waved her hands, as if to say that it wasn't that big of a deal. "No. Don't apologize. It was my fault anyways for sneaking around."

"What were you doing there anyway?" Blaine asked.

"Uh…well I was looking for the bathroom and I guess I kind of got lost," Fionna blurted out. She wanted to slap herself for saying that. Seriously? The bathroom? Might as well have an arrow on my head that says, I'm lying.

Blaine raised an eyebrow. "The bathroom? Is that why you left so abruptly? I could've shown you the way. I pretty much know this castle inside and out."

That was surprising. "You do?"

Blaine nodded. "I've been here before a thousand times, ever since I was a kid." He smiled at Fionna's astonished expression. "Don't worry. You're not the first person to be surprised. The Queen normally doesn't live here, but she sometimes holds political meetings or balls in here. The room you were just in used to be her private study but she doesn't use it anymore, hence the reason to why it wasn't locked."

"Oh." Fionna thought back to the picture frame she saw on the mantle. It seemed like such an important photo, yet why did Hannah leave it there instead of taking it to her other study?

Blaine held up a hand. "Shall we return back to the ballroom?"

Fionna eyed his hand wearily. If she went back there with him, everyone's eyes would be on her and Blaine. But, then again, Fionna's plan to be invisible throughout the whole ball pretty much backfired when Blain started flirting with her. So, Fionna placed her hand on his and walked with him back to the ballroom.

Music was filling the air in the ballroom and as expected, everyone's eyes were on them when Blaine and Fionna arrived. Fionna tried to ignore everyone's stares and whispering. Blaine tightened his grip on Fionna's hand.

"Would you like to go to the buffet table? They were serving it when you left."

Fionna noticed that they were walking towards a large table filled with various foods and sweets. Fionna's mouth watered when she saw a chocolate fountain with marshmallows on the side. Blaine chuckled when he saw her expression. "Of course. Girls can never go without their chocolate."

As soon as they reached the buffet table, Fionna grabbed a plate and heaped it with marshmallows. Then, using a thin wooden stick, she stabbed a marshmallow and let it soak into the fountain. The pillow soft sweet covered in chocolate danced in her mouth and Fionna smiled. She hadn't had something that sweet in a while.

Blaine laughed, causing Fionna to blush. "W-Wha's so funny?" She swallowed the marshmallow realizing that she couldn't form coherent words with it. Blaine suddenly reached out and Fionna flinched. She closed her eyes, waiting for an attack. She felt the demon boy's thumb softly stroke the side of her mouth.

"You had a chocolate stain," said Blaine.

Fionna opened her eyes and saw that Blaine's thumb had chocolate mark on it. Blaine then proceeded to lick the chocolate. The heroine averted her eyes away from the scene. She could feel her face heating up even more. She didn't even think that it was possible to blush that much.

"Feel better?"

Fionna glanced at him, confused. "What?"

"Do you feel better? I know all the staring was making you uncomfortable. I was hoping that the food would distract you from that."

"O-oh. Yeah," Fionna stammered. "I feel loads better."

Blaine smiled sweetly. "I'm glad."

Fionna felt her heart flutter. She couldn't believe that Blaine was doing all that for her. She placed her plate of marshmallows right next to the chocolate fountain.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked.

Blaine raised an eyebrow. "Why? Do you not like it?"

Fionna shook her head. "No. I appreciate everything you've done, but, why me? I mean, there's plenty of other girls around more prettier than I am."

"Yes, there are plenty of other girls in this ballroom, but they are not as interesting as you are, Penny and certainly not quite as pretty."

"How am I interesting?"

"Well, for one thing your—"

"BLAINE!"

The demon boy's explanation was cut off when a little girl with blue curly hair up in pigtails came running from behind Fionna and suddenly tackled Blaine, almost knocking him to the ground. The little girl clung to him, her tiny legs locked around his waist and her skinny arms around his neck.

Blaine grunted, but forced a smile. "I-It's good to see you too, Liana." He petted her head, like she was a pet.

Liana looked up at him and in a whining voice said, "Blaine, why didn't you come to see me?"

"Sorry, but I'm with company at the moment."

Liana turned her head around and saw Fionna, standing there, trying to process the strange situation. She waved a little to the girl, only to receive a hateful glare from Liana's green eyes.

Great, yet another person hates me. This night just gets better and better.

"Liana, you're not a little girl anymore. Carrying you is becoming more difficult as the years pass."

The little girl pouted as Blaine put her down on the floor, but she never left his side. She continued glaring at Fionna. The heroine wondered what she had done to piss the girl off.

"Penny, this is my friend Liana," said Blaine. "She's also another member of the demon clans."

Fionna then remembered that she was the little girl that came with both of her parents earlier. Now that the little girl was in front of her, Fionna realized how short Liana was. She only came up to Fionna's shoulder, which made Fionna feel like a giant.

"H-Hi," Fionna greeted. She visibly flinched when Liana's stare became more menacing.

Blaine placed a hand atop her head. "Liana, behave and say hello."

"B-But Blaine—"

"Liana." Fionna noticed the hard set of Blaine's voice when he said the little demon girl's name.

Liana pouted again and mumbled a quick hello. Blaine gave Fionna an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. She's just a little shy."

Someone grunted behind Fionna. "Not shy enough to steal some of my cake."

The heroine whirled around and came face to face with a face full of piercings. The boy was nearly as tall as Blaine. His dark spiky red hair seemed to glow underneath the white lights. His blue-grey eyes were like a storm about to form anytime. He directed his gaze to Liana.

"You brat!" he growled. "You owe me a piece of cake."

Liana stuck out her tongue. "It's your fault for leaving it on the table."

"Piece of shit! You knew that was mine and stole it anyway after I left to go to the bathroom."

Liana harrumphed. "Yeah, like it's my fault that you have a weak bladder."

The red-haired boy stepped closer to Liana. "You better have worked on that stupid magic of yours because I am so going to—"

"Enough, Julius," Blaine interrupted. He moved to block Liana so that he stood on front of her. "If you start a fight here, you are going to destroy the ballroom and injure a lot of people. Remember the last time you went on a rampage?"

Fionna wondered what that was.

"Blaine is right," said another voice.

Fionna turned around and her heart skipped a beat. It was the beautiful boy that had been with Julius. He was even more handsome up close. His ocean colored eyes felt like Fionna was going to drown in them and she didn't even care if she did. Instead of hanging down and framing his face, his golden hair was slicked back, revealing a single piercing on his right ear. His lips were full, his nose Greek. Upon closer inspection, the boy had a little bit of stubble growing around his face, which made his facial features look rugged. For some reason, Fionna wanted to get closer to him. She couldn't control her heart or the fact that she desperately wanted to kiss him. Is this what it felt like to be…in love? Fionna wanted to give everything to him. Her heart. Her soul.

"Penny." A firm hand grasped her arm.

Fionna blinked and wondered what happened. She tried to remember what had happened a moment ago, but her mind was blank. That was definitely weird. And so many odd things had happened tonight.

"Penny," said Blaine. "Sorry about before. I'd like you to introduce you to Julius and Stephan. They are my friends and also members of the demon clans."

Julius just harrumphed but Stephan smiled, grabbed Fionna's right hand and kissed it. "It's a pleasure."

Fionna blushed and expected her heart to beat like it had before when she first met him but it didn't happen. She found that weird but put it in the back of her mind. "N-Nice to meet you too."

"Forgive my friend's foul mouth," Stephan said. "He loves his food more than life itself."

He turned his attention to Julius. "Julius, stop glaring at Liana and say hello to Blaine's friend."

Julius groaned but turned around and mumbled a hello. Stephan sighed and turned to Fionna. "I'm sorry about him. Sometimes he forgets his manners."

"No," Liana interrupted. "That's just how he is. Rude. Insensitive. Jackass."

Julius whirled around and suddenly grabbed Liana's dress collar. He lifted her off her feet while she struggled to breathe. Blaine and Stephan moved to him; Blaine grabbing Julius's arms and Stephan gripping his shoulders.

"Julius, that's enough. You are letting your anger get the better of you," Stephan whispered harshly. "We are attracting bad attention to ourselves."

Stephan was right. Fionna could see that everyone was eyeing them with fearful expressions etched onto their faces. Some were whispering, probably wondering what was happening.

"He's right," Blaine agreed, struggling to pry Julius's fingers. "Plus, you're being ridiculous. It's just a piece of cake. There are plenty of others from the table."

Julius ignored him. His fingers were not getting any closer to loosening its grip on Liana's dress collar. Fionna wondered if she should help them, but she would have gotten in the way if she did. It was also obvious that this Julius had some bad anger issues if he got pretty pissed off by just having his food taken away. Fionna scanned her surroundings, hoping the Queen was going to step in and stop this but she was nowhere to be found. Where could she have disappeared to?

"Wow, not an hour into the party and Julius is already picking a fight with the pipsqueak." Fionna saw Marshall walking towards them, his hands in his pockets.

Stephan turned towards him and bowed. "Your Highness, I'm sorry about my friend. He was just about to release Liana."

Marshall raised an eyebrow. "Doesn't look like it to me." He turned his attention to Julius. "Dude, seriously, I don't know what brought this on, but trying to pick a fight with someone half your size is pretty low."

Julius growled. "Don't try to judge me, Princey. You're not the boss of me."

Stephan glared at him. "Julius, watch your tone. He is your Prince!"

"Yeah? How the hell is he our 'Prince' if he decided to rule over those stupid blood suckers?"

"I'm not their king anymore," Marshall explained. "Besides, I really don't care if you trash this lame party or not. Just try not to ruin the buffet table while you're at it."

Julius smirked and suddenly released his grip on Liana. She would have fallen to the floor if Blaine wasn't there to catch her fall. The little demon girl coughed and wheezed while Blaine tried to sooth her.

"Really, Julius, we can never go to a party without you either complaining about the food or picking a fight."

Alina arrived, looking exasperated about the whole thing. "I had asked you to be on your best behavior tonight since it was a special occasion, but it seems you can't even do that one simple task."

Stephan grabbed Julius's arm and lead him away from Liana who was glaring at Julius. Fionna noticed that her fingers were giving off hot pink sparks. She knew what that meant. The little demon girl was going to cast some kind of spell on Julius. This was not going to be good. If Liana casted her spell she was going to make Julius even more irritated. Fionna didn't know what kind of powers each of the demon clan members possessed but if Marshall was right that they were as powerful as he had claimed, then the whole party was going down the road of screaming party guests and clashing demons.

And she would have been in the middle of it.

Blaine grabbed Liana's hand and shook his head. Liana grudgingly obeyed and the sparks from her fingers died down.

Marshall smirked. "Well, at least the party got a bit more interesting." He moved past his fiancée and walked towards where Fionna was. At first, she thought that Marshall was coming for her, but he ignored Fionna, moving towards the buffet table instead. Fionna then remembered that she was in front of the buffet when the whole cake almost incident happened.

The heroine watched Marshall from the corner of her eyes. Naturally, he picked up all the foods that contained the color red, like a velvet cake, some strawberries and a cherry coke.

Alina sighed and then ordered Stephan to take Julius to the kitchen and ask the chefs to whip up a cake. It was beginning to become clear the Alina was the leader of the group since everyone seemed to obey her, despite their clashing personalities. Then, without saying another word, she left the remaining group to talk to the party guests.

"That sure was a close call," Fionna muttered.

"No kidding," Blaine responded. "Good thing my sister showed up when she did." He glared at Liana, who seemed to shrink under his gaze. "If you had casted a spell at Julius, then this whole ballroom would have been destroyed."

"But I didn't!" whined Liana.

"Only because I stopped you. Glob, can't you go a day without picking a fight on Julius? It's rare that we ever have any close calls."

Liana pouted. "I'm sorry."

Blaine sighed, exasperated. "Well, the danger has passed, so I'll forgive you. Besides, I promised you a dance didn't I?"

Liana smiled and brightened at Blaine's words. He winked at Fionna and said, "I'll be back," causing the little demon girl to send death glares at Fionna. Blaine led Liana onto the dance floor and for a while, Fionna watched the demons dance with each other. Even though Liana was shorter than Fionna, she was infinitely better at dancing that she was. The little demon girl matched Blaine's dancing step by step. Fascinated, Fionna watched as Blaine twirled Liana around the dance floor.

Liana was practically beaming with joy. She had a giant smile on her face; her green eyes were sparkling like emeralds. It was obvious that she was infatuated with Blaine. On the other hand, Blaine didn't have the same expression, but he was happy to be dancing with Liana, like a doting older brother.

As the heroine continued to watch them, Fionna thought back to those moments at the biannual Gumball ball when she would dance with Prince Gumball. She was always happy when the prince chose her to be his first dance partner. Sure, Fionna might have stepped on his foot a couple of times, but Gumball never hesitated to ask her. Like Liana, Fionna was beaming when she danced with Gumball. The heroine loved and cherished those moments with the Prince, even if Gumball didn't feel the same way. She smiled sadly, realizing that she and Liana had something in common. Both of the boys that they had fallen for would see them as nothing but as the little sister.

Thinking about the Prince of the Candy Kingdom made Fionna miss him. PG was probably still angry with her about going to the ball. Fionna wondered if she was ever going to see him again.

"Feeling lonely, Fi?"

Fionna looked up and saw Marshall smiling slyly at her. He was holding his plate of food in one hand and his cherry soda at the other

"Oh, sorry, I mean 'Penny'." He chuckled at the name. "Well, a least it's not something ridiculous."

"Shouldn't you be with your bride-to-be?" Fionna asked.

Marshall chugged some of his soda, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He burped loudly after. "Nope. I'm using up all the precious time I have to be away from her as far as possible before I'm imprisoned in this place forever."

"You make it sound like a death sentence," Fionna said.

"Fi, to men, all marriages are death sentences. Which makes me wonder why most of them ask the woman in the first place."

"When you became the Vampire King, did you get forced into marriages?"

"A lot," answered Marshall. "It was annoying, although the girls were hot." He sighed dramatically and swiped a hand over his already slicked hair. "The ladies can't get enough of me."

Fionna giggled but her laughter was cut short when she realized that she was never going to have this kind of conversation with Marshall again. He was going to be the King of the Nightosphere and be burdened with responsibilities, probably more than he had when he was the King of the vampires.

"Don't look so down, Bunny."

Fionna gazed up at him, blushing at the nickname. He rarely used that name he had given to her.

He smiled solemnly at the heroine. "I'll try to visit."

Fionna smiled sadly and nodded.

A waiter passed by and Marshall placed his food and drink on the silver platter. Then, he patted Fionna's head and played with the little horns. He grinned. "Wow. I gotta thank Peppermint one day for giving you such a cute little disguise."

Annoyed, Fionna swatted his hands away. "Stop it. You might ruin the illusion."

"Don't worry about that, Fi. It's a good disguise. Although, you could lose the horns and bat wings. Most demons don't usually show them, especially when coming to formal parties."

"How the heck am I supposed to lose my horns and wings? They're not real. It's not like I can will them away."

"Maybe you can," Marshall said. "Some illusions that are coming from an object can be manipulated to according to the owner's will. So, if you try hard enough, then the bracelet might be able to read your will and change your disguise."

"Ok, I guess it's worth a shot." Fionna took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She imagined herself with no horns and bat wings. She pictured the horns shrinking, until it disappeared and her wings folding and laying on her back, becoming tattoos. After a moment, she opened her eyes and looked at Marshall expectantly. "Well, did it work?"

Marshall was gaping at her so Fionna repeated her question. He blinked once. "Yeah, it worked. Faster than I expected it to be."

Fionna patted her head. She didn't feel any stumps, just soft smooth dark hair. She inspected her back but she didn't see any wings. "Hey, do you see any markings on my back?"

"It worked, Fionna," said Marshall without inspecting. "Your wings became tattoos."

"Wow, I can't believe it worked!" Fionna didn't think that it was going to happen. "So, does this mean I can change my appearance any time I want now?"

"Don't do it."

His words surprised Fionna. "Why not?"

"It's still dark magic, Fi. Plus, you're inexperienced. If you mess with that bracelet too much, it's going to end up killing you."

Fionna fidgeted with the chain hooked around her right wrist. She had dealt with black magic before, but she never wore anything that contained it.

"How long does it last?" Marshall asked.

Fionna shrugged. "Peppermint said that the bracelet's magic wears off if it got removed."

"Well, then you're going to have to be careful."

Fionna nodded.

"So, enough about the bracelet. I'm going to guess you got that dress from Fanny's, right?"

The heroine raised an eyebrow. "How did you know that?"

"I saw the dress from one on the racks." He looked away. "It looks good on you."

Fionna blushed, looked down and mumbled a thank you. From the corner of her eyes, it suddenly dawned on her how handsome Marshall was. She never fully took notice that the suit he was wearing was from Fanny's shop too. Even from outside her store, the suit was undeniably the perfect match for Marshall.

"So." Fionna cleared her throat, trying to let the awkward situation slide. "How did it go with your talk with Alina?"

Marshall shrugged nonchalantly; glad to have the subject change. "It was fine. She was just wondering who you were. I just told her you just snooping around."

"So, I've been reduced to a thief."

"A cute thief."

Fionna punched Marshall on his arm, telling him to shut his mouth while the vampire chuckled. There was a squeal from the dance floor. Blaine had picked up Liana and was spinning her around, the both of them laughing joyously.

"Jealous that your boyfriend had to do dance with another girl?" Marshall teased.

"Blaine is not my boyfriend," Fionna said. "He was just being friendly. Besides, he promised Liana a dance anyway."

"How did you even manage to talk to him?"

Fionna shrugged. "Beats me. I was just standing in the corner when he started talking to me."

Marshall raised an eyebrow. "He was the one who talked to you?"

"Yeah. I was trying to be, you know, incognito, but he totally blew that up for me."

"But there's plenty of other prettier women he could hit on," Marshall said.

"That's what I thought too—" Fionna's words were cut off when she realized what Marshall had said. "Hey! Are you telling me that I'm not pretty enough to get even hit on by a demon?"

"What?" Marshall said, incredulous. "That's not what I meant at all! And since when did you start caring about that, anyway?"

Fionna's face flushed, realizing that Marshall was right. Still, she was offended by his comment. She sighed. "Sorry, it's just that, it's been a while since someone has shown any interest in me." Fionna stared at her tan hands. "I know that this all just an illusion from the bracelet and if I'm being honest with myself here, I'm actually glad that I got the attention of someone as nice and good looking as Blaine. I mean, no has shown any interest in me since the Flame Prince and I broke up."

Marshall didn't say anything for a while and for a moment; Fionna thought that he was silently laughing. Fionna was not the type to convey her feelings like that, especially if they were personal. The heroine glanced at Marshall, about to scold him for being so insensitive, but her words never sailed from her lips.

The vampire was glaring at Blaine who had put Liana down to dance with her normally. His black eyes were narrowed into slits. Fionna thought she saw hints of red tinging around his pupils. If he was any more heated, the red would cover his whole eyes. His eyes wouldn't be turning red unless he was really angry.

Fionna cautiously placed a hand on his arm. "Marsh? Are you ok?"

The hints of red in his eyes immediately disappeared. His face relaxed, the anger dissipating from his face. He gave Fionna his trademark devil-may-care smile.

"Dance with me," he said suddenly.

Fionna was taken aback. "What?"

Before she could say anything else, Marshall pulled her into the dance floor, just twenty feet away from where Blaine and Liana where dancing. Marshall placed one hand on Fionna's hip and pulled her closer to him, so they were almost touching, causing Fionna's heart to pound. Then, tightening his other hand on hers, they began dancing. They swayed back and forth, Marshall leading her expertly.

Fionna was well aware of the hundreds of eyes gawking at her and Marshall. "Uh…Don't you think you should be dancing with your fiancée?"

Marshall just grinned. "I'm still the Prince of this hell hole, so I have a duty to dance with any maiden that asks me."

Fionna's response was cut off when Marshall twirled her around. He caught her, closer this time that their chests were practically touching. Fionna hoped that Marshall couldn't feel how hard her heart was beating against her ribcage.

"B-But I never asked you," she stammered. "You're the one who pulled me in."

Marshall's grin never wavered. "And yet you didn't refuse me."

He spun her again, Fionna's dress twirling and then swishing against her legs as he pulled her close once more. "Wouldn't it look bad if I did?" Fionna grinned up at him. "I mean, Marshall Lee the Prince of the Nightosphere getting rejected for the first time. Think what that would do for your reputation." He was after all a bad boy.

"Fionna, was there ever a time that you rejected me?"

She was caught off guard with the question. Was there ever a time that Fionna ever said no to Marshall Lee before? If she did, she couldn't remember, or maybe she just couldn't say no. Fionna stared into his dark eyes and realized that no matter what Marshall had asked of her, she would have obliged. It wasn't the heroine code that made her do it, no; it was because she was his friend. But, no, that was still wrong. Fionna knew that, deep down; she just didn't do it out of friendship. She truly, deeply cared about Marshall. Maybe even more than she realized.

"I don't know," she replied, instead.

Suddenly, the music stopped. The crowd murmured, wondering what was going on. Marshall dropped his arms around Fionna, took a step back and quickly bowed. Fionna quickly did an imitation of a curtsy. Someone tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around to find Alina standing behind her.

"I'd like to have this dance with my husband."

Fionna took a quick glance at Marshall, whose quick flick of his eyes told her to go. The heroine followed his message and left the dance floor, realizing that other dancers were getting off the floor as well. She searched for Blaine and Liana but they were nowhere to be found.

"All right everyone, this is a little early engagement gift for the lovely couple on the dance floor."

Everyone turned to the source of the voice. Fionna saw Blaine on the small stage right next to the Fionna a microphone on his hand. Liana was seated on the edge on the far left. "I composed this myself in just two months, so I really don't have a title to it, but I hope all of you and especially our esteemed prince, likes it."

He tossed the mic and someone caught it. Blaine then proceeded to the piano.

He placed his fingers lightly on the keys and began to play.
