Chapter 10: The Rapids

The water park was a million times more fun with Tam. Ava and Phoebe went about their business and lounged with mom and Aunt Kate by the wave pool. Dad and Uncle Elliot walked with Tam and me to all the rides we wanted to ride.

"The Rapids next!" I pulled Tam along and I noticed that she kept fiddling with her shirt. She was bound to be uncomfortable in all those wet clothes but every time I said something about it she said she was fine. She retrieve her hand from me and tried to ring her shirt out for the third time.

"Tam! Really?" I arched my eyebrow at her and she glared at me.

"Fine! But don't laugh!" She pulled the drenched thing off and revealed her purple bathing suit top. I looked down and boom! Tam was a girl … I mean I knew that but there was the proof she was really a girl. "Stop staring weirdo. I'm putting my shirt back on!" She began ringing her shirt out and I snatched it from her.

"I'm sorry … you shocked me. When did that happen?" I asked and pointed at her very perky new body parts and she quickly slapped my hand away.

"About the same time your voice dropped asshole!" She crossed her arms and I forced myself not to look down. "Are we going to the rapids or what?"

"Right?" I regain possession of Tam's hand and we continued to move forward. I noticed that as we walked guys were watching my little friend. For some reason I felt really defensive. Tam wasn't supposed to be looked at that way. I must be honest I glanced but it was out of shock not attraction. They were sizing her up and that was not acceptable. Maybe she should put her shirt back on. She mumbled something to herself and scooted closer to me. We finally made our way to The Rapids and all the awkward stares stopped.

"Oh my God Teddy look at the drop! This is going to be insane!" Tam giggled and squeezed my hand. I smiled down at her.

"I know I've done it before," I said smugly and she rolled her eyes at me. "Don't get huffy Tam because your mom likes to drag you down to New York all the time."

"Shut up Teddy! It's not like I want or even like going to New York every summer. I don't have any friends over there so stop acting like I make the decision to go because I don't," Tam snapped and rolled eyes at me.

"Okay sorry jeez," I scoffed and she sighed.

"Sorry, but sometimes you little remarks are a little annoying you know," she said calmly as the line moved. "I miss hanging out with you when I leave." She shrugged and I smirked at her and wrapped my arm around her shoulder.

"That's good to hear," I said smugly and she elbowed me.

"Ouch Tam! You're always so damned violent lately." I chuckled as I rubbed my stomach.

"I have to do something like you said I'm not but so witty when comes to comebacks." They strapped us into the ride and the controller took extra time on Tam. I choose to believe it was he was very concerned about her safety.

"Is it tight enough?" He asked her and she squirmed around a bit testing the restraints.

"Yeah I'm good thank you," she said with indifference and I snorted she was so oblivious some times. The controller started to ramble on about the safety precautions and then the ride started. It started off slow but then started whipping us around at amazing speeds. We finally got to the top and were getting ready for the main big splash.

"This is it Tam Tam!" I grabbed her hand just before the ride sent us speeding down the track and into a major wave. Tam screamed her head off I didn't know her voice could get so high. After it was over she was laughing to so hard that she snorted.

"That was the best thing ever! We need to do it again," she instructed but when we both looked back at how long the line was now we changed our minds. We strolled slowly back to my dad and uncle when I heard a familiar voice call out to Tam. We both looked back and it was Luke. Ever since that day in gym he seemed to be stalking us. It was clear to me what he wanted the way he looked at Tam was gross. He was about to be 18 shouldn't he be going after someone a little closer to his age.

"Hey girl," he greeted her.

"You taking care of my woman?" He asked me and Tam had the nerve to giggle.

"I don't think he is because has because Teddy's hanging out with me all day and I'm certainly not yours," she flirted. I felt like I was trapped in an outer body experience that I definitely wanted out off.

"Yes you are Tamera, you know you want to hook up with me that's why you answer my calls, you laugh at my jokes, and you look at me like you want me." I felt as though I could vomit but I took a minute to study the look on Tam's face it was different but I would've chalked it up to amusement not desire.

"What are you doing here Luke?" She asked bluntly.

"It's hot and I wanted to get wet. Mainly, I wanted to see you in a bathing suit and as usual you haven't disappointed me." He grabbed her free hand because I had a firm grip on the other and he kissed the back of it.

"I know you said you were busy today but maybe next weekend we could hit up a movie or something. I know you'd like that Tamera." Tam rolled her eyes but she flushed and became red in the cheeks.

"I'll think about it and text you my answer but can I get on with my day please?"

"Okay have a good day Miss Black," he chuckled and he and his friends disappeared. She watched as he left and then frowned a little bit. My chuckle turned into a full on hearty laugh.

"Shut up Teddy!" She shoved me again and rolled her eyes.

"Sorry Tam it's just kind of funny to see a guy so hard up over you?" I admitted and this seemed to piss her off but she didn't say anything.

"What did you want to do next?" She asked but I could tell my statement had soured her mood somehow. We were right in front of the parentals so I didn't want to push her now but I would figure out what was eating her.

"Let's do the Surfing Simulator." I looked at the map and pointed us all in the right direction. After a while I looped my arm in hers and she huffed.

"Whatever I said I didn't mean it," I whispered and she smirked.

"It's okay Ted we're fine … let's go surf," she muttered and then gave me her best fake smile. I glared at her for a minute but I was learning Tam and I knew that she would share her thoughts in her own time. I planned to be on my best behavior for the rest of the trip and hopefully she would act normal again.
