Bruce took both Barbara and Dick to his manor, but then left them alone. He had originally planned on spending some time with dick, but he knew the boy needed to talk to someone that was close to his own age. He would talk to him later, he promised himself, and he would take Dick out to eat something. They didn't usually go out and eat unless it was for a party or other type of special event so he would do that for Dick. When he was done talking to Barbara. For now he would just leave the two of them alone.
"So what really happened?" Barbara asked Dick once they were both settled. She had been allowed to watch Alfred change the bandages on Dick's chest and had seen the bullet wound along with the bruises along his rib cage.
"I got shot," Dick grimaced as he pulled a more comfortable shirt over his head. "Then, the building was about to blow up so I had to get out of there in a hurry, but I didn't want to leave the guy behind."
"The guy who shot you?" Barbara interrupted with a raised brow.
"He was unconscious," Dick defended his decision. Barbara shook her head with a smile on he face. Dick was the type of person who, even when he was being Robin, always thought of the other person. She didn't think that she'd ever once heard of him putting someone in more danger than was absolutely necessary to complete the mission. Most of the people that Robin fought usually ended up with a bump on the head or a batarang embedded in a place where it wouldn't do any serious damage. "I grabbed him and jumped out the window. He landed on this arm," he picked up his cast to show her, "and I landed on my back. Apparently I cracked a few ribs. I think I might have broken one or two too. I also had a concussion and some other minor injuries, but those have already healed."
"So you saved the guy who shot at you by allowing him to land on you," Barbara smiled proudly.
"I wasn't able to save the others though," Dick frowned.
"The others?" Barbara asked with concern. The only others she could think of were the ones from the Young Justice team.
"There were other guards in the building," Dick explained. "I wasn't able to get to them before it went up."
"Oh," Barbara gave a relieved sigh, but then another thought worried her. "Didn't you have any back up?"
"Wally went outside to help the others," Dick tried to shrug nonchalantly, but Barbara could see the barely contained tears.
"Dick," she said. "What really happened?" The last time she had seen him, he had been much happier and had told her about how Wally had confessed to him. He told her almost immediately after it happened over a video call, but was then pulled away for a training session with the rest of the team. Barbara hadn't seen him since then.
Dick could no longer hold back his tears so she wrapped her arms around him and let him cry on her while he brokenly explained just what had happened to them during the simulation and afterwards. Barbara couldn't help the feeling of anger that washed over her. How could Robin's own team do that to him? How could Wally do that to him? It just wasn't right.
"So now you're entering the Justice League?" Barbara asked after he was finally done explaining everything. She was just repeating what he had just said, but at least that would help him get his mind off of his old team. "That must be really exciting."
Dick nodded his head slowly, but they both knew better. He would have been much happier to stay with his old team or to have them all move into the Justice League together.
"Don't worry," she smiled soothingly. "I'm sure everything will turn out fine in the end."
"Do you promise?" Dick looked up at her with hopeful eyes. It was a childish thing to ask, neither of them could really promise that everything would turn out okay, but Dick had the right to act childish every now and again since he didn't get the chance to do it while he was being Robin.
"I promise," she smiled down at him. She only hoped that she could keep that promise.
Batman took the time that Barbara and his son were talking to go check up on the Justice League. Technically, he was only checking up on all of the technological equipment, but he always seemed to be the one that helped the others get out of bad situations when they got into them.
"Batman," Black Canary stopped him when he entered through the zetatubes.
"What is it?" he asked in his usual gruff voice.
"I have to show you something," she said. She was not happy to be the one to have to tell him this, but she knew that he would need to know.
"What?" the only indication that he was concerned was the slight creasing in his mask, but even that was easily lost in the black expanse of his uniform.
"I was looking at the security tapes of the mountain from before the simulation and I found this," she said as she pointed at the screen. It was stopped on a picture of Robin and Wally nervously kissing. It was just a peck, but it spoke more about the situation between them.
Batman clenched his fists. He already had a sneaking suspicion that his son was in love with Wally, even before the whole simulation happened, but now he had even more reason to be furious at Wally. "When did this happen?" he asked.
"This is five minutes before we started the simulation," she frowned. "They confessed to each other five minutes before we started the simulation."
"Do you have any missions for me?" he turned away from the screen. He really wanted to hurt Wally for hurting his son so much, but he knew that this really shouldn't be any of his business. This was up to Wally and his son to fix. That didn't mean that he couldn't completely despise the young Wally. That didn't mean that if they ever got back together, which Batman wasn't sure if he wanted that or not, he wouldn't be keeping a constant eye on the red head. That didn't mean that he wouldn't be harsher to the boy. It just meant that he wouldn't physically harm him for the sake of his son. That was all it meant.
"No," Black Canary shook her head. She knew it was a breach of privacy that she was showing this to Batman, but she also knew that the only way for them to fix it would be to know all the facts, which included this one. She could only hope that this would help them in the future.
"Very well," Batman turned back to the zetatubes to return to his house. He was shirking his duties to the team at the moment, but he felt that it was much better than shirking his duties as a father, which is what he usually did. He had already decided that he would go out as little as possible until Robin was well enough to join him in the Justice League.
