Chapter 10
AN: So, it was a really long hiatus but here's 10. I will try to update as often as possible.
Chapter 10
"Wow", Izzy said, stunned at the news, suspicion and happiness for her brother warring inside her. She was glad she had sat down, or she might have found herself on the floor from shock.
"What do you mean that you're bonded?", Clary asked, she took a step closer to the pair as if that would help her understand the situation better.
"We're soulmates", Alec answered at the same time that Max said, "We're soul-bound".
"Huh", was all that Jace could manage, what with the revelation and the spell on him, he had few words to say at that moment.
"How?", Simon asked. The others looked at him when he asked. He stammered in his embarrassment of having all eyes on him instead of the bonded pair. "I mean, does everyone have a soulmate? And how old are you?" he asked incredulously.
Rufaro snickered at the last question, knowing that it usually ticked the Lady off when asked about her age. The answering glare that was sent his way by his charge would have made lesser men cower at her feet, but that only prompted more snickers from the angel.
"How old I am, has nothing to do with anything", Maxwell answered frostily, "as for your first question though, I don't know. I do know, however that creatures – that is, non-humans – have mates", she added as she turned to Rufaro, eyebrow raised in question.
"Ah, yes", Rufaro intoned, "humans also do have mates, although the bonds are much weaker if the pairing is all human. If it is a non-human and a human, the non-human will feel the bond more than the human, and of course between non-humans, the bond is very strong as non-humans are more in tune with the supernatural side of life and their baser instincts".
"Alec is human though", said Simon, a slightly confused look on his face that was mirrored by his friend Clary.
"Neither Alec, nor Izzy and Jace are fully human", Max answered this time. "They are shadow hunters", she said, her eyes lighting up as she looked at Alec, "they have angel blood running through their veins, a small percentage, yes, but enough to make a significant difference".
"Interesting", commented Simon, his thirst for knowledge and all things fantastic shining through.
"How are you feeling Simon?", Max asked with a serious air about her and all her attention directed at him, her seeming to see right to his soul.
The question threw Simon off, as well as everyone else except Rufaro, who knew where the question was leading.
"Now is not the time", he leaned in to whisper to Max.
Alec gave him a questioning look as he had been able to hear the whispered words as he was right next to Max.
"I mean, you were in the infirmary when I arrived", she quickly covered.
"I'm feeling fine, thanks", the boy in question answered sceptically.
"Good, good", Max said as she leaned on Alec's side, feeling more comfortable with him the more time they were around each other.
"Okay, that was not suspicious at all", Jace muttered, looking at Max suspiciously as well.
"Oh well, who cares what you think", she said with a sweet smile on her face.
"I like her", Izzy said as she high-fived Max for the word slam, to which Alec smiled gratefully at his sister.
"Of course, you would like her", Jace said snidely. He was about to utter a nasty comment when he felt his throat tightening and remembered the spell Max had put on him. His mood quickly soured as he swallowed his words and kept quiet instead.
Clary couldn't help but hide a snicker behind a cough as she saw his facial expression, he looked like he was constipated, and perhaps he was with all the horrid things he could not say.
"Ha", Max exclaimed excitedly, "I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks" she added looking at Alec with a mischievous smile.
Simon let out a bark of laughter as the others showed varying degrees of amusement at Jace's expense.
"Why you…", Jace started, lunging at her only to stop shortly as he grabbed his throat, unable to breathe.
"Or not", Izzy said with a snort, adding to Max's quip as she helped Jace stand upright, rubbing his back as he got his breathing under control.
"Argg", Jace growled in frustration, "take this damned spell off me"
"Will you promise to behave?" Alec asked from where he stood, arm wrapped around Max's shoulders.
Jace glared at him for that, shrugging Izzy's hand off his back, he made his way out of the infirmary to brood in his room, possibly destroy couple of priceless vases in the process.
"I shouldn't pick on him, I know", Max said after the doors slammed shut, "but he makes it so easy".
"I would caution you, my lady", Rufaro said with a smirk, "but I, better than anyone, know you would rather throw caution to the wind".
"He will come around in time", Alec added.
"Well, that was exciting", Izzy said looking at those still in the infirmary, "and since no one is injured anymore, how about we get out of here", she suggested, grabbing Rufaro's hand and leading him out. The others followed behind them as they, too, saw no need to be there anymore.
The others were a little behind Rufaro and Izzy, so they saw that they were still holding hands. Max smiled a small smile at that, already seeing the bond forming between Ru and Izzy.
"Come, I want to show you something", Alec said, steering Max down a different hallway, leaving the group behind with not a care in the world of where they were headed, only that he wanted time alone with her.
Okay that's 10, done and dusted. Keep your pants on and no conniption please, cause chapter 11 will be up Friday 😊
