Chapter 10 Moving
Alright it has been a while since I've updated this. (Like two years.) but I'll recap on what's happened so far. Jasper has been wiped out by hunters and Humphrey was taken from Jasper. He found a pup named Jared and after hitching a ride on a plane and now Humphrey is in the middle of a war zone.
Humphrey's POV:
I woke up to the sounds of fighting in the distance. I got up and ran as fast as I could. I got to the battlefield but found out I was too late. The battle had been over. We had no casualties but they had obviously lost the battle. "Well look who's up." Utah said. "Sorry I'm lateā¦" "Don't be, we won, for good." Utah said. I was confused, a day ago we had been fighting for our lives and now it's just over. Then the packs leader came into the battle grounds. "Good news, you and Utah you're both going to the front." "What." We both said. "What could've confused you about that." He said. "Why are we going." He looked us both in the eyes. "You and Utah are going to frontline up north to support our troops." He said. "You'll be moving soon so get ready." He said. "What about Jared?" I asked. "We'll still treat him but you'll be away. Now shoo be gone." With that we started to walk north and marched toward what we were told was our deaths.
A day later.
We trekked across forty miles and most of it was mountains. And the front line definitely lived up to its reputation. We got there and the first thing we saw was injured wolves being either treated, run to other healers, or put of their misery.
"Hello" I said to a wolf. "I'm Humphrey, I'm a new recruit." He looked at me strangely.
'Sigh' "Beggars can't be choosers I guess. Get the valley's edge."
Me and Utah walked to the front. It was a vast open field that ran into mountains at the end of it. "The mountains are where our enemies come from." Utah said. "They learn nothing more than killing up there. That's why our enemies are not gone yet, despite our numbers."
That gave me chills knowing that the enemy I knew nothing about was stronger than us by a long shot. Our enemy has every advantage but numbers, and in the end they always were victorious. We walked forward and into a group of soldiers.
A wolf stepped forward. He was a bit on the older side with a scar on his left eye. "Everyone gather 'round." Every able bodied wolf came to listen. "Since the day our enemies decided that they were the only ones worthy of this we world. We have fought and we have fought hard. Defeat has come more than victory and we have all lost those who are dear to us. However today that all changes for today we take that bastard down plus his entire command staff. Today will be known as the day the world was saved."
The crowd of wolves cheered at this and all of the soldiers looked ready to go out and defeat them. "I can not promise all of you will come back. In fact I can say the very opposite, most of you will not return. This is a large under taking but we will prove to be the victors if we all pull through. So please if you are with me howl and show them that we are coming." The lead wolf said.
The crowd all howled at the mountains and we were off. "This is what is takes to see Kate fine. God help us all." I silently said to myself. We marched forward into walk I knew to be certain death but for Kate. I would do anything. "This is for you."
It took us two hours to get to mountains and the most dangerous part was next, the mountain itself. Three mountains made the trail even more dangerous. Boulders fell ad rockslides came at least dozen times each. The one time nothing happened was when the trail up the mountain. All in all only half of us made it up the mountain.
The leader went in front of the pack. "Alright after this next hill we will be in deep shit. We must get to the leader of this and end his life. That way we will all live in peace once more." He was going to go on couldn't because a wolf fell out of the trees and bite his neck.
"AMBUSH!" one wolf screamed. I'm an instant we were surrounded by the other pack.
"CHARGE!" The other pack screamed. We tried our best to defend ourselves for minutes until the other pack retreated. I looked around to see about 200 of the original 1000 and our leader dead in the ground. I heard the other wolves start to converse.
"What are we going to do?"
"We have to go back."
"We've come to far to give up now."
"We don't have a choice."
I decided to step forward. "Alright listen up, I don't know much about this conflict but I know one thing. They retreated for a reason so must have done something right, now while they're regrouping is when we strike. Know is the time to fight and to avenge those who have fallen." The crowd looked at me with worried and scared looks.
"I'll follow you." A voice said. I turned around to see Utah. Then one after another they all followed in saying they would follow me. In a minute the crowd was on my side.
"There isn't a minute to waste. Strike fast and strike hard. Let's move people." I ran toward where they had retreated too. The pack behind me. In five minutes we found our target. We found the main den grounds. What we saw surprised us, only about 50 of there soldiers were standing. Then there leader showed up.
"Gentlemen, this victory could not have happened without you. Right now their main force is running home full of new and young recruits. Even if they do not surrender, we will have the upper hand of experience."
I decided this was a good time to reveal myself. "Over my dead body you'll win."
"Look men, just as I told you, young and inexperienced. This will be easy. Take care of them men."
"Utah you take down here I'll get him." I ran past the battle and into the leaders den. "Your rein of terrorism and fear is over. I am the person who will kill you." I looked at their leader cowering in the corner on the other I saw two females bound to the wall. I could only imagine what had happened, though I didn't want to.
"Please don't kill me, I can give you anything you want. Power, women, name it and I'll give it to you." He said in a weak voice.
"So you don't want me to kill you?" He shook his head no. "Alright I won't kill." I walked over to the females "I'll let them decide." I cut them both loose and left the den. I heard screaming and crying from inside. Then Utah came up.
"Sir we have taken the camp, 10 casualties and 19 wounded sir."
"Sir?" I asked.
"You have earned my respect and the rest of war pack's respect, sir. What are your orders?" The crowd looked at me.
"Clean up the remaining forces then return to the camp. Take the wounded back and any others we deem worthy."
"Others, sir?" One soldier asked.
"Yes, for instance there are two females seeing to the leaders fate. Take them back and have them get a check up." They all looked at me and then split up to carry out my orders. Not knowing what to do I sat down. Then the two females came out of the den and up to me.
"Are you the one that saved us?" I nodded. "Oh my god, thank you." She kissed my cheek, "thank you so much". She stopped for a bit a stared at me. "I don't know what to do now".
"I can get a escort ready for you to go back to our camp, you look like you need medical attention or a therapist."
"Really, thank you. Me and my sister would like to get out of here." I got three wolves to get them back home and relaxed on the ground.
A/N: Long chapter I know but I swear next one will be shorter, maybe. But you probably won't have to wait as long, hopefully. Sorry for rushed quality.
