Okay, I know I'm late. Very, very late. But, for the people that have stuck threw it to the end, this one's for you. I now present the final chapter in "The Girl Who Didn't Know." Enjoy!
It was quiet in Liverpool, almost too quiet. Jennifer and Harry were taking the longer way to get to the Scowly residence, her favorite way. If only things were different, thought Jennifer. Then I could truly appreciate the nature here. They had Apparated about two miles away from her house, as to not set off any fatal curses. Mr. Owl and Fawkes had accompanied them in the Apparation, by request of Jennifer. "It's either all three of us or just myself, and that's final." She had told Professor McGonagall. The Headmistress had been reluctant in letting the two birds travel with the wizards, as she was afraid one might be killed, but Jennifer was persistent, so the Headmistress conceded.
"Jennifer, we have about a mile to go until we reach your home. Are you ready?" Harry asked her. Jennifer had her wand out the entire trip, just in case her mother tried to pull any tricks on the assault group. "I am, Harry. I am ready to finally make her pay for what she did to me, to my family. I am ready for her to die."
Harry shook his head, saying, "Jennifer, Professor McGonagall told me what she said to you. I personally do not believe that you should resort to murder, it isn't necessary. When I fought Lord Voldemort, I never once casted a Killing Curse against him. I won by love, the love of my family, the love of my friends, and the love that I had for my family and friends. That should be enough to defeat your mother and bring her to justice, not to resort an act that you'll never be able to change back. I am begging you to change your mind Jennifer, not for her sake, but for yours."
Jennifer thought about this for a second and wondered, Do I really want to live with myself knowing I killed another person? She shook her head saying, "Harry, I know what I must do. She is going to pay for what she did to me and I will prevent her from causing anymore heartache to anyone else. It's not my fault that it's going to be fatal." She starting walking a little faster, wanting to get it over with as quick as she could.
Harry ran up to keep pace, exclaiming, "Jennifer, listen to the voice of reason. I made many mistakes during the years, but if there was one thing I wish I could have changed, it would be to have never cast a spell associated with the Dark Arts. But I did, and I have to live with that. But you shouldn't have to, not at this innocent age. You have a long life ahead of you, and you don't want to have the burden of murder throughout that. At least consider it, for your own good."
Jennifer replied, "I did, Harry. But she has left me with no choice. Professor McGonagall told me what happened to your parents, and I am very sorry for your losses. But you and I are different. You may not want to commit murder, and I wouldn't want to either. But my mother has given me an ultimatum: either let her finish me or I finish her. I will not let her deprive me from a family, so she will die. That is final."
Harry looked down and shook his head, saying, "If that is what you want to live with Jennifer, then I cannot stop you. But hopefully before you strike a fatal blow, you will remember what Professor McGonagall and I said. It will be on your conscience forever, that you killed a woman."
Jennifer nodded solemnly. The two continued to walk, the birds flying overhead, in utter silence nonetheless, until they reached the Scowly residence. "There it is," said Jennifer while pointing at the large, four-story mansion, "My home." Harry sent the two birds with a letter to Professor McGonagall, letting her know they had arrived at the home. They had just started to walk when Harry put his arm out in front of the young girl, halting her.
"Wait, we need to confirm that there are no curses around the house to block intruders. We should have been given word on whether the team made it or not, and we haven't received any owls." Jennifer nodded and waited for Harry to cast the spell.
"Specialis Revelio!" whispered Harry. A mixture of blue and green sparks started to quickly fly out of his wand only to die down in the same amount of time. "There are curses," he said, "And by the looks of it, it seems to have been just recently added. We'll need to take them out before we go in, unless you want to answer for your sins much sooner then you would've liked to." Jennifer laughed at this statement. She liked Harry, in sort of a clumsy kind of way. But no matter what he said or did, he couldn't let her stop her from completing her ultimate goal: getting rid of her mother.
"How about we cast Expulso together? It might be able to break the enchantments, if we're lucky." Jennifer suggested. Harry pondered on the idea for the idea for a moment before relenting, saying, "I guess we could give it a shot. Two are always better than one, aren't they?" Jennifer smiled and nodded while pointing her wand at the barrier with Harry. "On the count of three," she said. "One, two, three! Expulso!" they shouted in unison. Within three seconds, the two wizards were blasted back by the destruction of the protective barrier, succeeding in their plot.
"We did it!" shouted Jennifer. The two hugged each other, smiling at their achievement. "Now we can find her and kill her, so she won't be able to ki-"But before Jennifer could finish her words, a blast came from the side of the mansion. Harry and Jennifer saw four wizards flying out of a wall, seemingly dead. The companions ran to the bodies, but were shocked at what they found.
"We know now how she prefers to finish off her victims." said Harry.
Harry was right, as once they got to the Aurors' bodies, they found the most horrific sight. The four bodies were lying on the ground lifelessly, with no facial features whatsoever.
"She rips their faces off." said Jennifer.
The two were appalled, wondering how someone could commit such a horrid act. "We have to prepare." said Harry. "She might come out at any moment, suspecting we're here." But Jennifer had other intentions, as she started running as fast as she could towards the front door of the mansion. Harry sprinted after her, hoping to stop her before she was able to reach to the door. But Jennifer was always considered a fast runner, and she burst into the house before Harry was able to get within twenty yards of her.
"COME OUT HERE MOTHER! FIGHT ME YOU BITCH!" roared Jennifer. She raised her wand, considering that her mother might appear at any moment. Harry burst into the room, his wand also held high. "Jennifer, Professor McGonagall told me to make sure you kept a clean mouth. Hogwarts is starting soon you know." said the Auror. Jennifer responded with a tone of disgust, saying, "To hell with Hogwarts, I want that bitch to face me." She faced forward, screaming, "UNLESS YOU'RE A COWARD, MOTHER!" But suddenly, a voice boomed out, "Be careful what you wish for, dear."
Jennifer and Harry looked around to find Mrs. Scowly walking down the staircase, looking as nefarious as ever. She was in a black, low-cut dress (Jennifer was painfully reminded how her mother was infatuated with wearing black in the summertime) with jet black stiletto heels. "Jennifer, how you've grown in the last month!" The witch said with a smirk, stopping halfway down the stairs. "How many inches? Two, three? Oh, and Harry! How you've grown since that nasty battle with the Dark Lord. How's the wife and kids? I hope they don't miss you, once you're dead and all. I'll make sure to tell them you loved them, before I kill the lot."
Harry's eyes widened with hatred as he lifted up his wand towards Mrs. Scowly and roared, "STUPEFY!" The spell hit the woman in the stomach, knocking her off of the staircase and into the stone-hard floor. Harry started to run towards her, screaming, "YOU WILL NOT TOUCH MY FAMILY, YOU EVIL BEAST!" Jennifer ran after him, hoping to stop him before he committed the very act he attempted to convince her not to do. The young brunette grabbed him by his arm and turned him, seeing the contempt in his eyes. She said, "Harry, she won't be able to do anything to your family once I kill her. Don't worry."
But the moment the young witch said this, she was blown into a couch by Mrs. Scowly, who had gotten up from the Stunning Spell and had her wand held high. Harry started firing spells as fast as he could at the Lestrange child, but she was as quick as a wisp, fighting with just as much speed and almost twice as much skill.
Jennifer shook her head as she stood up, thanking the Lord it wasn't a Killing Curse that caught her out of the blue. She looked around to see Harry fighting her mother, and immediately she started to fight alongside him. The brunette could tell her mother was a powerful wizard, but nevertheless she kept fighting, hoping that she can slip in the final spell casually within the midst of the battle.
But just five short minutes after Jennifer emerged in the battle, Mrs. Scowly pulled back, yelling, "ENOUGH! This is going to end between Jennifer and I, no one else. If you should try to enter, Mr. Potter, you will meet the fate of your Aurors."
Harry attempted to argue, but Jennifer looked at him sternly and said, "Harry, it's okay. It's going to end here, once and for all. No more fights, no more bloodshed." She then walked twenty feet away from her mother and raised her wand, ready to avenge the people she loved most.
Her mother smiled maliciously, saying, "I see you're learned how to duel, Brava unto you! It will be so sad when you die, I was hoping on murdering your family when you grow older." This prompted Jennifer to burst into a fit of rage, shooting spell after spell at her mother. Mrs. Scowly followed suit, blocking each spell with incredible skill.
Jennifer was just about to shoot the finishing spell, knowing that the Killing Curse cannot be blocked, when she noticed a faint flicker in Mrs. Scowly's eye towards Harry. She pulled back before anything happened, saying, "Enough. We each shoot our final spell, we end it here." Mrs. Scowly smiled, saying, "As you wish, dearie."
Jennifer held her wand high and was just about to shoot her spell when before she could get the incantation out of her mouth, Mrs. Scowly shot a large blast of pure Dark magic at Harry. The young witch was shocked, not expecting her mother to aim for him.
She lunged in front of the Auror, not wanting him to sacrifice himself for her. But as the magic was about to hit her, a blast of light erupted out of Jennifer, traveling with the magic toward Mrs. Scowly. The witch gasped, falling back onto the ground from the impact of the spell.
Jennifer ran to Harry, asking him with a worried expression, "Are you okay? Did anything get on you?" She looked him over, making sure she didn't see a speck of Dark magic on him. Harry chuckled, hugging Jennifer as he said, "I'm okay, don't worry." He glared at the unconscious Mrs. Scowly before a gasp escaped him, "But she's not."
The young practitioner looked at the limp body, a shiver of fear releasing itself from her body. What lied where Ms. Scowly fell was her body, dressed in the same black dress, but no face. No face at all.
An hour later, Ministry officials arrived to the Scowly mansion. A larger man, wearing an Auror uniform, looked to Harry and asked, "How did this happen? This kind of magic is ancient, very ancient." The wizard replied, shaking his head in confusion, "I'm not sure. She gestured her hand at me when a gust of Dark magic came towards me. She," he gestured to Jennifer, "jumped in front of me then… I don't know. Something erupted out of her and she fell back, faceless."
Jennifer just solemnly nodded her head at Harry's words, too frightened to speak. How did that happen? How did she counter her mother's magic like that, no wand at all? She looked at Harry, still too shocked to speak to anyone else, and whispered, "Can we go somewhere else? Leave the Ministry to this?"
Harry shrugged at her, asking with a curious expression, "Where would you like to go? You were extraordinarily brave today, so you deserve to go wherever you'd like."
The young witch shrugged, thinking back as to where home was. It wasn't at this mansion anymore, not with no family. She thought back, smiling slightly as she said to him., "Hogwarts. That is my new home."
I said there was going to be an epilogue with this. I intended there to be an epilogue with this. I intended many things. But now, unfortunately, I can't write one. You see, my life has been hectic since the last time I posted. Badly hectic. Also, I'm now working on a publishable stories that I can't wait for you all to read, set in Wonderland, Neverland, and Oz. I'm doing pre-writing work now, outling each story and working out any potential legal issues. So, because of this, I can't set up a sequal to "The Girl Who Didn't Know." Could it happen? Potentially. I have ideas for it written down. But, as of right now, Jennifer's story is closed. Maybe I'll do a one-shot. Who knows? Anyway, thank you for sticking with me threw it all. I wrote this chapter to be the longest for you. Thank you.
