Fury
Scott, Kristie, and Stiles looked down at the yearbook in Stiles' room with Sheriff Stilinksi. "So this kid's the real killer?" the Sheriff asked.
"Yeah." Stiles said.
"No." the Sheriff said in disbelief.
"Yes!"
"No."
"Dad, come on." Stiles stood up. "Everybody knows that the police look for ways to connect victims in a murder, okay? So all he had to do is, like, look through their transcripts and figure out which class they all had in common."
"Yeah, except for the fact that the rave promoter Kara wasn't in Harris's class."
"All right, okay, you're right, sorry. Then I guess they dropped the charges against him?"
"No, you know what? They're not dropping the charges. But that doesn't prove anything."
"H –"
"Scott, Kristie, do you believe this?"
"It's really hard to explain how we know this, but you just gotta trust us." Kristie said. "We know it's Matt."
"Yeah, he took Harris's car, okay?" Stiles said. "Look, he knew that if a cop found tire tracks at one of the murders, and that if enough of the victims were in Harris's class, that they'd arrest him."
"All right, fine. I'll allow the remote possibility, but give me a motive. I mean, why would this kid want most of the 2006 swim team and its coach dead?" Sheriff asked.
"Isn't it obvious? Our swim team sucks! They haven't won in, like, six years. Okay, we don't have a motive yet. I mean, come on, does Harris?"
"What do you want me to do?"
"We need to look at the evidence." Scott said.
"Yeah, that would be in the station, where I no longer work.
"Trust me, they'll let you in." Stiles said.
"Trust you?"
"Trust - trust Scott? And Kristie?"
The Sheriff paused. "Scott and Kristie I trust."
The four headed to station. When they entered, the deputy working the night shift looked at them like they were crazy. "It's 2:00 in the morning." She said.
"Believe me, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't extremely important." The Sheriff told her.
"We look at the hospital stuff first, okay?" Stiles whispered to Scott and Kristie.
"Why?" Kristie asked.
"Because all the murders were committed by Jackson, except for one, you remember?"
"The pregnant girl, Jessica." Scott said.
"Yeah. Since Matt had to kill her himself, somebody from the hospital could've seen him."
"Guys." The Sheriff said, getting their attention. They all headed into the back, into evidence. They all sat down and turned on the hospital security footage.
"I don't know guys." The Sheriff sighed. "I mean, look at this. There was a six - car pileup that night, the hospital was jammed."
"All right, just keep going." Stiles said. Look, he had to have passed one of the cameras on that floor to get to Jessica, okay? He's gotta be on the footage somewhere."
"Oh, hold on, stop! Did you see that?" Kristie asked. "Scroll back." Sheriff did what he was told an rewound the footage.
"That's him! That's Matt!" Stiles exclaimed, pointing at a teenage boy on the screen.
"All I see is the back of someone's head." The Sheriff sighed.
"Matt's head, yeah. I sit behind him in history. He's got a very distinct cranium, it's weird."
"Are you crazy?"
"All right, fine, then look at his jacket, huh? How many people do you know who wear black leather jackets?"
"Millions, literally."
"Okay, can we scroll forward? There's gotta be a shot of him coming at one of the cameras." Kristie said.
They looked through the footage some more. "Right there! Stop, stop! See, there he is again." Stiles exclaimed.
"You mean there's the back of his head again." The Sheriff said.
"Okay, but look. He's talking to someone."
"He's talking to our mom." Scott said, looking at Kristie.
"Call her." Kristie said. Scott did what he was told, pulling out his phone. He put it on speaker.
"Hello?" Melissa asked, answering.
"Mom." Scott started. "We need to ask you about someone who was at the hospital the other night."
"Scott, you know how many people I deal with in a day?"
"This one's 16 he's got dark hair, looks like a normal teenager." Kristie said.
"Yeah, he looks evil." Stiles said through his teeth.
"Scott, Kristie, I already talked to the police about this." Melissa said.
"Okay, mom, I'm gonna take a picture and send it to you." Scott said. He took a picture of Matt's file picture. "Did you get it?"
"Yeah."
"Do you recognize him? Do you remember him?" Kristie asked.
"Yeah, I did. I mean, I remember I stopped him because he was tracking mud in the hall. Guys, what's going on?"
"It's - it's nothing, mom. I'll explain later. I gotta go." And he hung up.
"We've got shoe prints alongside the tire tracks at the trailer site." The Sheriff said, looking at the file.
"And if they match, that puts Matt at the scene of three murders. The trailer, the hospital, and the rave." Stiles listed.
"Actually, four. A credit card receipt for an oil change was signed by Matt at the garage where the mechanic was killed."
"When?"
"A couple hours before you got there." Kristie said, looking up from the file.
"All right, dad, if one's an incident, two's a coincidence, and three's a pattern, what's four?"
"Four's enough for a warrant." The Sheriff said. "Scott, Kristie, call your mom back, see how quick she can get here. If I can get an official ID, I can get a search warrant. Stiles go to the front desk. Tell them to let Scott's mom in when she gets here."
"On it." Stiles said and went to the front.
"Mom." Kristie said over the phone. "We need you to come to the station. It's important…Alright see you in a bit." Kristie hung up the phone. She's on her way here." She saw the Sheriff look up. "Sheriff?"
Kristie and Scott turned and saw Matt leading Stiles into the office, a gun pointed at him.
"Matt?" The Sheriff asked. It's Matt, right? Matt, whatever's going on, I guarantee you there's a solution that doesn't involve a gun."
"You know, it's funny you say that, because I don't think you're aware of just how right you are." Matt said.
"I know you don't wanna hurt people."
"Actually, I wanna hurt a lot of people. You three weren't on my list, but I could be persuaded. And one way is to try dialing somebody on your cell phone, like McCall is doing. That - that could definitely get someone hurt. Everyone." He gestured with his gun. "Now!" The four pulled out their cell phones and set them on the desk. "Come on." Matt said, pointing it at them.
The four walked into the room that contained the holding cell. Matt tossed a pair of handcuffs at Stiles. "Put it on and attached him to the wall." Matt ordered. Stiles did as he was told. "Tighter."
"Do what he says, Stiles." The Sheriff told his son. Stiles tightened the handcuffs and Matt lowered the gun, leading him, Scott and Kristie out into the hall. There were bodies all over the hallway.
"What, are you gonna kill everyone in here?" Scott asked Matt.
"No, that's what Jackson's for. I just think about killing them, and he does it." Matt replied. He led them back into the office. "Shread it." He ordered them. "Get rid of all the evidence."
Matt kept the gun pointed at them as they did what he asked. "Deleted." Stiles said as they shredded and deleted the last documents. "And we're done. All right, so, Matt, since all the people you brutally murdered deserved it because they killed you first - whatever that means - I think we're good here, right? So I'll just get my dad, and we'll go, you know? You continue on the whole vengeance thing. Enjoy the Kanima."
As he said that, car headlights appeared through the window and a car screeched to a stop outside. "Sounds like your mom's here, McCalls." Matt said.
"Matt, don't do this." Kristie begged. "When she comes to the door, I'll just tell her to leave. I'll tell her we didn't find anything. Please, Matt."
"If you don't move - now, I'm gonna kill Stiles first, and then your mom." Matt said, raising the gun at Stiles. The four walked into the front and stopped at the door. "Open it."
"Please." Scott begged.
"Open the door."
Scott sighed and did what he was told, revealing not their mom, but Derek. "Oh, thank God." Kristie said and went to him, but he just fell into her arms, paralyzed. Jackson was standing in front of them.
"This is the one controlling him?" Derek asked. "This kid?"
"Well, Derek, not everyone's lucky enough to be a big, bad werewolf. Oh, yeah, that's - that's right. I've learned a few things lately. Werewolves, hunters, Kanimas. It's like a frickin' Halloween party every full moon. Except for you, Stiles. What do you turn into?"
"Abominable snowman. But, uh, it's more of, like, a wintertime thing, you know, seasonal." Stiles sarcastically replied.
Matt nodded his head and Jackson scratched Stiles. "Hey!" Scott yelled, but Jackson stopped him.
"You bitch." Stiles mumbled as he fell to the ground.
"Get him off of me." Derek groaned.
"Oh, I don't know, Derek." Matt said. "I think you two make a pretty good pair. It must kinda suck, though, to have all that power taken away from you with just a little cut to the back of the neck. I bet you're not used to feeling this helpless."
"Still got some teeth. Why don't you get down here a little closer, huh? We'll see how helpless I am."
"Yeah, bitch." Stiles groaned.
Two more headlights appeared in the window and a car stopped outside. "Is that her?" Matt asked. "Do what I tell you to and I won't hurt her. I won't even let Jackson near her."
"Scott, Kristie, don't trust him!" Stiles said.
Matt sighed and grabbed Stiles and threw him on his back, stepping on his throat. "This work better for ya?"
"Okay, just stop!" Scott exclaimed. "Stop!"
"Then do what I tell you to."
"Okay. All right. Stop!"
Matt took his foot off Stiles. He turned to Jackson "You take 'em in there." He looked at Scott and Kristie. "You two- with me."
Matt led Scott and Kristie out to the front desk. Melissa had just come in. "Mom?" Kristie said.
"You scared me, where is every –" And that's when she saw Matt holding the gun at Kristie and Scott.
"Mom, just do what he says. He promised he wouldn't hurt you." Scott tried to reassure his mom.
"He's right." Matt said. Then he shot Scott in the stomach. Kristie tried to hold on to her brother as he fell to the floor. He began to bleed heavily. "But I didn't say I wouldn't hurt you."
"Scott! Stiles! What happened?" They heard Sheriff Stilinski
"But I didn't say I wouldn't hurt you."
Melissa tried to reach her children. "Wait, baby –"
"Back, back!" Matt yelled, pointing the gun at her.
"Mom, mom, stop, mom!" Kristie exclaimed. She kept her hand on the gun shot as she and Scott sat on the ground.
"I said get back!" Matt said.
"Scott. Kristie." She said, tears in her eyes.
"Mom, do it. Please, mom." Scott asked.
"Get up, McCall." Matt ordered. Kristie and Scott sighed.
"Matt?" The Sheriff yelled. "Matt, listen to me –"
"Shut - shut - shut up!" Matt yelled. "Everybody shut the hell up! Now, get up, or I shoot her next!" He pointed the gun at Melissa. Kristie helped her brother to his feet and Matt led the three to the back where the Sheriff was. Matt locked Melissa in a cell.
"Please, he needs to see a doctor." Melissa cried as Matt shut her in. Kristie and Scott stood away from her, Kristie trying to keep her brother upright.
"You think so?" Matt asked.
"Hey, hey, you listen to me!" The Sheriff started.
"It's all right. I'm okay." Scott said.
"No, honey, you're not okay." Melissa cried.
"It doesn't hurt, mom." Scott said, trying to keep her calm.
"'Cause that's the adrenaline, okay? Please, let me - let me just take a look at him, okay? I mean, I can help stop the bleeding."
"They have no idea, do they?" Matt asked, turning to Scott.
"Please. Let me just take a quick look. I.."
"Shut - shut - shut - shut up!" Matt yelled. "Lady, if you keep talking, I'm gonna put the next bullet through their heads!"
"Okay. Okay." Melissa cried.
"Back to the front, McCall." Matt said, pointing the gun at Kristie and Scott. Once they were back in the front, Kristie turned to Matt.
"The evidence is gone. Why don't you just go?" Kristie asked, on the verge of tears.
"You - you think the evidence mattered that much, huh? No, no, I - I want the book."
"What - what book?" Scott asked.
"The bestiary. Not just a few pages, I want the entire thing."
"We don't have it." Kristie explained. "It's Gerard's. What do you want it for, anyway?"
"I need answers."
"Answers to what?" Scott asked.
"To this." Matt said, lifting his shirt up, revealing scales, like Jackson's, up and down his side. "There. You know, I - I feel sorry for you, McCall, 'cause right now, you're thinking, "How am I gonna explain this when it heals?" And the sad part is, you don't even realize how incredible it is that you actually are healing. 'Cause you know what happens to everyone else when they get shot? They die."
"Is that what happened to you? You drowned, didn't you?" Kristie asked.
"He shouldn't have let them drink."
"What - who - Matt, what do you mean?" Kristie asked, trying to calm him down.
"Lahey! He shouldn't have let them drink."
"What, who was drinking?" Scott asked.
"The swim team, you idiot! I didn't know what was happening. I didn't know they had just won state, and Lahey, he's letting his favorites come over to have a couple drinks to celebrate. Who cares if they're 17, right?"
"Were you at Isaac's?" Kristie asked.
"He had this first edition Spider - man, or was it Batman? And we were gonna make a trade. But then I'm over there and I hear music. And everyone's having a good time, and I see Sean. He throws Jessica in the pool. And then - and then Bennett goes in and.."
"Bennett? What - the hunter?" Scott asked.
"And then Camden. Isaac's jarhead brother, he grabs me. He thinks it's funny."
"They threw you in." Kristie quietly said.
"I - I yelled that I can't swim, but nobody listens. I go under and I swallow water, and no one cares. And I see these bodies underwater. I - I see Jessica's got her hands down Sean's board shorts. Tucker's grabbing Kara. And I'm drowning. I'm dying, and they're laughing. All of a sudden, I was just - I'm lying by the pool. And Lahey is right there, right above me, and he says - he says, "You tell no one! This, this is your fault! You don't know how to swim? What little bastard doesn't know how to swim? You say nothing! You tell no one! No one!". And I didn't. I didn't tell anyone. And I would see them at school, and they wouldn't even look at me. I'd wake up in the middle of the night. I'd gasp for breath. And my parents, they thought I was an asthmatic. They - they - they - they even gave me an inhaler. They didn't know that every time I closed my eyes, I - I was drowning." Matt paused. You know about that little white light that they talk about, you see when you die? Well, I didn't see anything. Just darkness. Everything was dark. But then - then came the Argent's funeral, and everything changed. I was taking some photos, and then, purely by accident, Lahey gets in one of the photos. I look down at the screen on my camera, and I just had this unbelievable rage that fills up inside of me, and I just - I look at him, and I - I wanna see him dead. And the next day, he actually was. You know, Einstein was right. Imagination is more important than knowledge. It was like something out of Greek mythology. Like - like the furies coming down to punish Orestes. You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?"
"Was - was he the guy who stabbed out his eyes?" Scott hesitantly asked.
"God, that's Oedipus, you dumbass! The furies are deities of vengeance. Their tears ran of blood, and they had snakes for hair. If there was a crime that had gone unpunished, the furies would do the punishing. Jackson is my fury. You know, when I saw him the next night, it was like this bond had been cemented between the two of us. I knew he had killed Lahey for me, and I knew he would do it again. So I went to Tucker's garage. I even paid for an oil change. And guess what. He didn't even recognize me. So when he wasn't looking, I took a shot of him from my camera. And in a few hours, he was dead. So I took more pictures. All I had to do was take their picture - And Jackson would take their life."
Suddenly all the lights in the station turned off and the alarm began to sound, the emergency lights turning on. "What is this? What is this? What's happening? What's going on?" Matt yelled.
"I don't know." Scott said. And then the gunfire came. Bullets shot through the window. The three ducked down to the ground. Scott tried to shield Kristie, trying to lead her over to a desk to get under. They hid and the gunfire ended shortly. They were about to get up when a smoke grenade was thrown in the room, releasing smoke into the air.
Scott stood and grabbed Kristie. They ran out of the room and Scott slammed right into Jackson, knocking him on the ground. The two ran over to Stiles and Derek. "Take him! Go!" Derek yelled.
"I'm not leaving you." Kristie said.
"You have to!" Derek kissed Kristie. "I'll be fine, save yourself."
Scott and Kristie grabbed Stiles and held him up as the three ran from Jackson. Scott closed many doors behind them, which Jackson broke as he followed. Once they made it into an interview room, they were safe. Kristie and Scott sat Stiles down in the chair.
"Don't move." Scott said. Stiles looked at him. "You know what I mean."
Scott and Kristie ran out back into the hallway and almost ran into Allison.
"Oh, sh - Allison." Kristie sighed in relief.
"Where's Derek?" Allison asked.
"What are you doing?" she asked, noticing the crossbow in her friend's hand.
"If you're not going to tell me, then get out of my way."
"Allison." Scott said.
"Kristie I know what he means to you, but you need to tell me where he is."
"What happened?" Scott asked.
"Scott – S…Kristie, you need to stay away from me right now. I need to go. Just stay out of my way." And she ran off.
"Scott, you can't let her go." Kristie said. "There here for Derek."
"Kristie, right now we need to get mom and the Sheriff out of here alive."
Kristie sighed and the two ran towards the holding cells. When they got there, they saw the Sheriff, unconscious on the floor, Derek against the wall, and the Kanima climbing on the bars of their mom's cell. Scott immediately changed form and stabbed the Kanima in the back, throwing him on the other side of the room.
The Kanima took off after that, with Derek right behind it. "Derek!" Kristie yelled after him. She started to follow, but she stopped in the doorway when Melissa called to see if Scott was okay. His head was down and his back was to Melissa. He slowly looked up at Kristie then turned to their mom.
"Scott?" Melissa gasped. "No!" she cried, her hands covering her mouth. Scott stood to go to her, but she back away, far into the cell.
Scott turned and went to Kristie. "Stay with them." And he took off. Kristie ran over to the Sheriff to check if he was alright. She saw him stir. She heard a grunt from behind her and saw Stiles crawl towards her.
"Stiles!" she exclaimed. She ran over to him and picked him up, leaning him against the wall. Kristie heard her mom crying in the cell. "I'm gonna go get help." Kristie told Stiles.
Stiles nodded and she ran from the room, going towards the front to find a phone. As she ran down the hallway, a hand grabbed her arm. She gasped, but sighed when she saw Derek. "You're okay!" she exclaimed and hugged him. He hugged her back, holding her close. She kissed him and then looked at his shocked expression. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." But something was wrong. Derek couldn't stop thinking about what he had just witnessed between Scott and Gerard. Were the two working together?
