PERPETUAL MOTION

Perpetual motion maggots!

Town of Scot

Wulfe looked at the gathered throng of White Fang members. This particular branch of the group were currently under the leadership of a middle-aged rabbit faunus named Robert Cobalt. Wulfe had been chosen as head of security for the branch of the organization stationed here in Scot. Violet was the branch's recruitment expert as well as the one who spoke to the press It was an odd position for someone so young, but she had family connections that made her very useful in the position. In addition to that Violet had always been far more mature than her age suggested.

Wulfe currently stood at one side of the stage they had erected in front of the town hall. At the other end stood a close friend of his, and one of his four fellow security personnel, Lucas Gray. Spread out in between the two were the other three members of the security team.

The gathering of white fang was actually very large for such a small town. This could be attributed to Scot's status as a faunus friendly community. The town's tolerance of the faunus was largely due to the fact that the majority of the town's militia were faunus. This meant that back during the uprising, Scot had been spared by the faunus forces.

Violet and Wulfe were here because Violet had always been a proponent for faunus equality, for obvious reasons. When Violet had heard there was a town full of humans who almost unanimously supported the faunus, she had immediately set out to help set up a branch of the White Fang in the town.

Wulfe hadn't been particularly fond of her plan to come to Scot. After all, he considered the White Fang to be generally ineffective, even though he agreed with their goals. It wasn't that he thought that they were too soft, like some of the other faunus he had met. He just realized they were trying too hard to rush a thing that eventually would happen naturally. Humans were resisting change, but just by learning skills and working their way up in society, Wulfe believed that faunus could earn their place as humanity's equals. Instead the White Fang was trying to force humanity to accept them. But even though he didn't necessarily like the White Fang he was loyal to Vi, and if she wanted to help them then he would help her do it.

The majority of the crowd was actually made up of militia members, all of them wearing the local units standard issue uniforms. Their uniforms consisted of naval camo fatigues under a lightweight navy blue breastplate, full length shin guards, and black steel-toed combat boots. Some of them chose to wear the optional nay blue baseball caps with the word "SCOT" on the front, with their uniforms. The militia was mainly made up of young men sixteen to twenty years of age. In the kingdoms the younger members would be considered minors, but the town of Scot hadn't managed to survive as long as it had by being picky about it's protectors.

Wulfe could pick out the faces of a few regulars, but few of the militia were actually members of the White Fang. But almost all them were avid supporters of the organization.

One of the militia faces he did recognize was that of a former Signal student. He couldn't quite remember the man's name, but he did remember the conversation they'd had about why he left Signal. The guy had left when he and his girlfriend broke up, but apparently the two of them had gotten in contact with one another a month after he left. He had told Wulfe that the two of them had made amends and he was going back to Signal next year.

Cobalt finally ended his "inspirational" speech and Violet stepped up to the podium. He didn't receive any applause, which was rather telling. While Wulfe knew that Robert was the real brain behind the Scot White Fang (S.W.F.), he was better suited for leading from the background. Violet was his figurehead, her abilities as a speaker made up for his complete lack of talent. "We all have dreamed of the day the faunus would be treated as equals. Well that day is within sight! Today we have gathered all of you here to announce that, for the first time, a faunus is running for the position of mayor! With your support and donations we can finally make history. Robert Cobalt will be running for the position as mayor of Scot in the upcoming election.

I want to see all of you turn up at the ballots three months from today, and maybe we can finally have a faunus mayor in a non-faunus town! This will be a huge step toward faunus equality in the this region!" As Violet finished her short speech the gathered crowd roared their approval.

They were cheering not so much for what she was saying, as for the way she was saying it. Violet was one of those rare few individuals with the potential to become a tyrant simply by the power of her oratory performances. Fortunately, she was probably the least tyrannical person Wulfe had ever met.

Wulfe had no doubt that one day his sister (for all intents and purposes) would become the greatest leader the faunus had possessed for years. While Lord Winter was a great man in his own right, he had never been particularly talented at the game of politics. His daughter didn't have that handicap. She was just as capable of playing the game of politics as she was with a sword.

Finally the gathering came to a close. Wulfe, Lucas and the rest of the branch's security forces split off to escort the leaders of the S.W.F. home.

/

Lucas and Robert stood outside Robert's house. They were embroiled in a conversation that would decide the fate of the S.W.F. Though it wouldn't have at all the desired effect.

"Violet is the greatest threat to our plans of uniting the faunus. The way that the militia flocks too her prevents me from gaining their loyalty," the would be mayor was saying.

"Violet is one of your most loyal supporters, why are you suddenly so suspicious of her?" Lucas asked. Even though his loyalty was owed completely to the man in front of him, Robert seemed to be unduly paranoid about the young girl.

"Because I have proof of her plans to betray us!" Robert said. Unless I can show Lucas the truth, Violet and her devoted guardian will bring the White Fang's greatest political gain in years to naught. I have to stop them and without Lucas that will be impossible. He is the only one in the S.W.F. capable of standing up to Violet's bodyguard in a fight.

Lucas just looked at his leader doubtfully. He wouldn't believe that until he saw it.

Robert just gave Lucas a grim look as he pulled out a confidential message from Violet to Wulfe. If anyone involved had bothered to confront the two about the message, the events of the next year would have been completely avoided. Unfortunately, as far as the two of them were concerned, this was the proof necessary to condemn the two as traitors.

Everything is going according to plan.

All that we have left is to wait for father's agent.

As soon as Cobalt is taken care of I can step up

and take his place as the candidate for mayor.

Once that is done we can back father as

leader of the White Fang. Just a little longer Pups.

Robert knew that the last line was the nail in the coffin. No one outside of the S.W.F. would know Violet's pet name for her bodyguard..

Lucas finished reading the letter and looked at his leader. "What do you need me to do?" he asked a hard glint in his eyes.

/

It was starting. Geist couldn't help but smile as he watched Cobalt and Gray eating up his little forgery. It warmed his heart whenever a plan went off without a hitch. After being ordered to deal with the potential threat of the S.W.F. he had decided to take the lazy man's way out. So he had just provided their leader with the means to the organizations implosion.

He had every right to be proud of himself. Cobalt had already started to distrust Violet, all Geist had needed to do was play with the man's paranoia. Now he could sit back and watch the problem fix itself.

/

A young militia-man also happened to be standing nearby. He had just gotten off the phone with his ex-girlfriend/best friend, the two of them had been discussing his planned return to Signal Academy next year. He had just ended the call and now, as he walked around the corner, he heard Robert Cobalt's voice, "I need you to eliminate Lord Winter's heir, you're the only one who can. No one else in the S.W.F. can stand against her bodyguard in a fight, it has to be you."

Hearing this the militia-man slowly slunk into the shadows and turned toward Violet's house. Fortunately Scot was a small enough town that he knew where everyone important lived. He broke into a sprint as he headed that direction. He might already be too late.

/

Wulfe and Violet were finally starting to relax. Today had been especially stressful for the young noblewoman. She had poured her out to the crowds, and in return they gave her their loyalty and respect.

As they were both about to climb into their beds he heard someone knocking on the door. Motioning for Violet to stay where she was, he went to answer it. He opened the door on the young militia-man from the rally earlier today. The man was gasping for air and he looked frantic. As soon as Wulfe opened the door he started rattling words out like a machine gun. "You have to go! Their on the way now! Lucas is leading them and he plans to kill you and Violet!"

Wulfe held up a hand to stop the barrage of words, "Start from the beginning. Who are you?"

"My name is Lancaster Price, I was at the rally earlier today! But there isn't any time for this right now! The two of you need to get out of here now! Cobalt sent Lucas Gray here to kill you! They could be here any minute now!

As if on cue a gunshot rang out and a bullet hit the doorframe right beside the militia-man's head. There was a loud splintering sound and as if on cue, Price collapsed. But instead of staying down he turned the fall into a backward somersault and came up with a huge magnum in his hand.

As he stood he shoved Wulfe back through the front door of the house. The last thing Wulfe saw was the younger man's cap fall off, revealing that in place of hair he had blue feathers. As Wulfe turned to find Violet he heard the militia-man start returning fire with his oversized hand gun.

/

Price grinned to himself as he saw Wulfe snap back to his bodyguard training and run to protect Violet. Now it was his turn to fall back on his training. Fortunately the town of Scot had arguably the most well trained soldiers in Remnant, with the obvious exception of huntsman.

Instead of running in the face of the four members of the S.W.F. security force's superior firepower, Price advanced. He immediately moved up to Violet's car and crouched behind it. Peeking his head around he could see the four men splitting up two coming around either side of the car, one hanging back to provide overwatch, and the last one, Lucas, simply walking away from the car. He was going around the back of the house, but Price had his hands full with the other three. Wulfe would have to deal with Lucas Gray.

He breathed in and out slowly, he would have to control his breathing before opening fire or he would just waste ammunition. As he calmed his breathing he peeked around the back left fender of the car again, ignoring the rounds that started to snap by. But this time he didn't stop at peeking out instead he stood and advanced slightly hunched over. He remembered the words of his drill sergeants, "To stand still is to die. Perpetual motion maggots! That's the only way to survive a fire fight. And its the best way to fight the Grimm too! The hardest thing in the world is to hit a fast moving target. So don't just run! Sprint! Never sit still, whether your opponent has a gun or claws."

So he took them at their word, and as he did he proved everything they taught him had been true. He dashed forward, coming at the man in front of him at an angle, he moved with the strange gait that his instructors had drilled into him. While it might look ridiculous it made it so that even at a run his gun would stay level. And as he moved he sighted in on the man in front of him.

/

Johnathan Tallow had never been in a fight with a trained soldier. Heck he had never even been in a life or death fight in his life. But as the militia-man rushed him he didn't bother with second thoughts. The man was in his way so he would die. Tallow opened fire with his rifle only to see the rounds snap at the ground around the militia-man, but he couldn't seem to hit him. As it turned out the militia-man didn't have the same problem. Tallow saw the barrel of the man's pistol flash, and then he saw no more.

/

Price watched his first target fall, but didn't stop moving. The only thing he felt over the kill was a little bit of satisfaction. After all that had been a perfectly executed headshot. He had been given the role of team sniper for a reason after all. Even his instructors would have been proud of that shot. Of course they still would have reamed him out for not shooting at center-of-mass while using a handgun. On the other hand satisfaction wasn't what he had expected to feel after killing a man. All the movies and books made it seem like the first time you killed you would automatically go through some kind of deep soul-searching moment. He simply dismissed the thought and continued advancing.

As the first man's body hit the ground Price turned his pistol and head to the right and saw the man on that side of the car. He had already aimed his rifle at Price, but instead of trying to drop or roll, Price simply changed the angle of his forward charge. The man opened fire and the first shot hit Prices aura, the second and all of the other ten shots after it missed him completely. Before the man could even empty his magazine Price fired his second round of the firefight, putting a bullet through his head as well.

By now the third man had finally gotten his act together. He had a clear shot on the unknown militia-man, but before he could take it Price dropped and rolled under the car and out of his sight. Before the man could think of a response to this Price started firing at his legs. One of the rounds impacted and he fell. He looked under the car only to find himself staring down the barrel of Price's magnum.

Price got out from under the car, confirmed the kill by firing a shot into the back of the man's head, he couldn't risk leaving an armed opponent behind him and chest shots with pistols could be iffy, and reloaded his pistol, before dashing off in the direction Gray had gone.

/

Wulfe had thrown Violet down as he heard the gunfight outside continuing. There was no way that single militia-man would be able to take all four of the security men for the S.W.F. After all Wulfe had trained the men personally, and they were as good as it got outside of militiamen. Maybe if the man had a partner backing him up he could have survived, but when Wulfe heard the gunfire stop he knew that the soldier had just given his life to protect Violet. He would never be able to repay the debt now, though.

All Wulfe could do was wait, fortunately he had hidden them in the attic and it was a fairly defensible position. Unless the security personnel decided to fire up through the ceiling anyway.

"I can't believe you and Violet thought you would be able to get away with this Wulfe! Did you think I would never find out? Or were you planning to kill me from the beginning? If so then at least come out and look me in the face while you do it!" Wulfe instantly recognized the voice of his former friend and second in command, but he had no idea what Lucas was going on about. And to be honest he didn't really care, the only thing that mattered now was protecting Violet. Friendship took a backseat to the job, that was the first rule of being a bodyguard. Though the rule was meant to apply to friendship with the principle not the would be assassin.

As Wulfe heard the man moving through the hallway directly below the trapdoor into the attic, he dove through it. He ended up missing his mark, instead of landing on Lucas, he landed behind him. It didn't matter. As soon as his feet touched the ground he grabbed his former friend's head and wrenched it to the side. There was an audible crack and then Lucas fell dead at Wulfe's feet, his neck broken.

At the same time Wulfe heard a noise behind him and turned ready to kill again. But what he saw made him pause from sheer shock.

"We need to go," The somehow still living militia-man said to the thoroughly shocked bodyguard.

Hazel was enjoying her holiday at home. She loved Vale during New Year's and she was determined to make the most of her three weeks at home. She had just turned off the T.V. when she heard a knock at the door. She walked over to answer it and was shocked to see a man in a balaclava and two faunus she had never seen before. In the background she could see a navy blue humvee with the word Scot emblazoned on the side. She recognized the clothes the man in the balaclava was wearing as the uniform of Scot's militia forces. The ball cap with the town's name on it helped.

"Hey there lass," the masked man, no PRICE, said calmly, "do you have room for a few guests?"

She paused for a moment then looked over her shoulder, "DAD!"

Author's Note: That is the end of this flashback chapter, but I made another story called RWBY: TEAL, BGDY, and VILT: Expanded. It is a series of one shots featuring the characters of this story. Each chapter will deal with things that I feel deserve to be addressed, but simply don't fit with the flow of the story. The first chapter details Robert Cobalt's fate.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter, personally I think its one of the most well written ones in the story so far. I really liked having the chance to show Wulfe's more animilastic, ruthless side.

Also Price's tactic of staying in motion is one used by Delta Force. The way he was walking was a gait used by Spetsnaz and it is designed to keep your weapon on target even when on the move. However the headshots are something no self respecting military man would have tried for, at least not with a pistol. That was law enforcement inspired.
