Finn quickly took the blood bags from the passenger seat, he hated that he had to leave her so many times but now that he was back he was staying with her, Klaus could keep the futile new house all to himself, he didn't want to have any part of it.
On his short walk to the house he thought of only her, Sage wasn't fully healed and she was probably sleeping, that's why she hadn't returned his calls, he assured himself before dropping the blood on the ground in horror.
He ran up to the porch already howling in pain, his Queen of Fire was dead.
There was a stake sticking out of her chest and he cradled her grey body in his arms in pain, the yells that left his mouth were agonizing and inhuman, they had killed the love of his life and he was going to inflict his revenge firstly on Klaus, his vengeance would be slow and painful, he was done playing nice with his ruthless evil brother.
Caroline admired the house from the outside, it looked stunning, the workers had done such an amazing job on it and today the decoration staff had outdid everyone with all the lights and flowers ornamenting the front and all the balconies, from the roof to the garden everything was perfect.
It wasn't easy to admit since she hadn't done a thing to organize this one but it already looked like it would be an outstanding party, Klaus was set on hosting a lavish and majestic party to officially mark the start of a new life in the renovated house but she knew that he mostly wanted to erase the memories attached to the old ruins.
And she was happy that he did it because the house was magnificent and it deserved a good welcome party, the only thing upsetting her was that he didn't allow her to take part in anything, in fact she hadn't seen Klaus since they kissed in the middle of the woods.
That was less than 24 hours ago and she had a hard time admitting to herself that she missed him, that it was strange not being around him, she even felt her heart tight when she walked by his guest room at her house now that it was empty.
Caroline inspected her short dress making sure that there were no wrinkles to the really tight black number that she chose for tonight, black was a rare color on Caroline but she was feeling a bit edgy tonight, maybe she was still high from kissing a hybrid after he just fed.
She pushed the slightly troubling thoughts back to this little corner in her head and shook her hair, the loose waves bounced perfectly as she started walking up the stairs of Klaus' manor.
Klaus was talking to some of the guests actually being genuinely polite to them, the party had been a way to show the big families in Mystic Falls that the Mikaelsons were no longer guests gracefully welcomed to this town, they were a very important part of it and he always hated that his mother dismissed their legacy so easily and tossed them into this mundane status of eternal guests.
He was proud of how the house had turned out as a finished result and he felt like he truly accomplished something by providing his family a home, Elijah was the most enthusiastic about this notion though.
He had been engaged in an intense conversation with the town's Council, Klaus had no doubts that Elijah was a politician at heart so he fell quite at ease with the crowd tonight.
As for Kol, he was happy anywhere as long as he had alcohol and Bonnie by his side.
Klaus decided to ignore Rebekah, she had too many mood swings to keep up with, as for his mother and Finn, they had been missing all day but he didn't count them as part of the family anyway.
He nodded at something random that the town's doctor was saying but his eyes kept drifting to the main door, she was late and that was strange of Caroline so the tiny sting of doubt grew inside of him, maybe she wasn't coming.
He glanced at the man and then back at the front door because she was here, he just hadn't recognized her at first, she was attentively scanning the room and she smiled at someone, Klaus wasn't listening to the man in front of him anymore because he was revering the woman with the flawless long golden locks.
Everything about her was the equivalent to an exquisite art piece, from the subtle makeup to the black halter-dress that fitted her perfectly and left him with little room to imagine as it graced her curves so well.
He had seen so many women try desperately to look like she did tonight, there were princesses, queens, Hollywood stars who would have killed to look like she did effortlessly and yet none of them had come near to cause the effect that Caroline had upon arriving to a room.
Klaus left his immediate company talking alone and walked over to Caroline having a hard time remembering his own name as he grew closer to her, her sweet scent became stronger, familiar now to him as it was and still enchanting enough to cause a dent.
She smiled at him and he cursed his still dead heart for not beating because he felt alive and he wished that he could listen to it race just one more time because of her.
"You look absolutely enticing tonight sweetheart." he told her mesmerized.
She looked down, visibly taken by the compliment. "Thank you..."
He hated that she whispered the words to him and that she was looking down from him, and he wasn't having any of this from her, gently he cupped her chin and made her look up at him. "You are beautiful and you look like a siren."
Caroline blushed but at least she kept her gaze on him. "Is this your flawless plan to win me over?"
"Only if it's working sweetheart." he replied easily.
"I guess when you are a billion it's easy to smooth-talk your way into anything or into any bed."
He smiled because he saw that fire in her again. "Occasionally it works." he smiled amused that Caroline always made him work hard, either if it was for a smile, a conversation or a kiss, nothing was ever easy with Caroline and he found that refreshing as well as exciting.
"I need a drink." she simply said and unexpectedly walked away from him.
Klaus chuckled but he didn't follow her, if Caroline was in a playing mood he was always one to enjoy a valiant chase.
Rebekah scolded them from across the room, she had heard everything and was really upset that this thing with the human girl apparently was headed somewhere, she was having a hard time giving up on her exclusivity over her brothers, she already had enough with Bonnie the wench who was always hogging Kol.
Lexi was just arriving with Matt by her side and when she saw Rebekah she waved at the Original.
Instantly Rebekah made her way to the couple smiling, she could use the company to drink her mood away. "I'm extremely happy to see you, I was in need of my drinking buddy."
Lexi laughed and then pointed at the dashing man next to her. "Do you remember Matt? He works at The Grill."
Matt awkwardly ran his hands over the suit that Lexi bought for him and smiled, he still had no idea how she had convinced him to be her date to this thing.
Rebekah watched the male human, he was really good-looking and it was rather foolish that she hadn't noticed him before tonight, he had deep-blue eyes that hurt just by looking at them, he also possessed broad shoulders and a hard jawline, noticeably she had been blind to the town's hottie.
Maybe she could have her own boy toy for a few weeks and playing around with the idea she held out her hand. "I'm Rebekah."
Matt clumsily took her hand. "I guess that I'm supposed to kiss it now." he said and rested his lips on the back of her smooth skin, he looked at her with his lips there and there was a moment between them.
Lexi quickly interrupted them. "Have you seen any of my sisters?"
"Caroline is around and the twins haven't arrived yet..." Rebekah answered feeling her hand tingly.
Matt grabbed a champagne glass and started drinking naturally.
Lexi gave him a look. "You are expected to get one of those for me as well."
Matt smiled at her. "Sorry... I'm new at this."
Lexi sighed. "Only because you never go to any of our parties."
Matt shrugged. "None of this is really my thing, I'm more of a beer guy."
Lexi shook her head smiling and looked at Rebekah, she didn't really enjoy the way that the Original vampire was taking Matt's body measures, she seemed ready to chop him into pieces and eat him with a glass of Brut.
"Here..." Alaric dropped the streak of red hair down on the table. "It's done."
Esther smiled happy. "Thank you Alaric for the greatest joy I've had this month."
He grunted and paced around the old crypt, it was an odd place to hold a meeting. "You lied to me." he told Esther.
The woman gave him a small smile. "Because I said that the Forbes girls were all vampires?"
"Yes." he was annoyed, he didn't enjoy being played.
"I half-lied, only two of them are vampires but they are all nonessential therefore expendable." she easily explained.
"I'll take care of the blond vampire and one of the twins but I'm not touching the humans." he said taking the envelope that she handed him with his fee.
"Actually, I have a priority that needs to be addressed… permanently." She nodded at the chunky envelope.
"I'm listening." The woman had lied to him but she still paid well.
"I need you to remove this hassle from my life." she handed Alaric a picture.
He easily recognized the sultry woman. "I just said that I don't kill humans." he gave her back the picture.
"Don't be ridiculous, she's not a human but a witch." Esther snapped.
"I won't do it." he said sternly.
"I didn't take the famous vampire hunter to be such a soft heart." she spiked him.
Alaric locked his dark stare with hers. "Today I took down an ancient vampire easily, what makes you think that I can't take on a witch? I can but I won't. Witches are what they are without a choice because they are born this way, unlike vampires who can choose while transitioning." He waved the envelop at her. "Not all the money in the world will make me go after an innocent." He turned around determined.
Esther smiled. "What if we leave the trivial currency out and I provide you with something far more substantial, like the name of your wife's killer?"
Alaric froze his exit and slowly faced her.
Her smile was cold, glad that she had caught his attention. "Kill Bonnie Bennett and I'll gladly give you the name of the one who ended Isobel's life."
Caroline was talking to a few of her friends, it seemed that Klaus had invited the entire town to this party and she searched for the man standing a few feet away from her, she smiled looking away, happy that he hadn't caught her.
She nodded at the girl in her group before sneaking another glance at him, Klaus was wearing a black suit and a light-grey shirt, she was particularly taken by the black tie that he wore tonight, it made him irresistible and she quickly averted her eyes and focused on her champagne glass instead.
Resuming to her conversation she decided not to look again because he was laughing at something that Kol was saying and she knew that she would spot the forsaken dimples, naturally she tried to focus harder on the girls from her school but she couldn't get last night out of her mind and before she knew it she was looking at him and this time he was looking right back at her.
Caroline wanted to break away from him, to not give him this satisfaction but that was the thing with Klaus, the more she fought him, the more she wanted him.
The group started laughing and she realized that she had missed the joke altogether so sweetly she used the old justification of retouching her makeup to excuse herself.
Undisturbed she made it to the hallway, maybe she could hide in here for a little while but she wasn't alone, Klaus was right behind her and the second she faced him she gulped down, he was serious and she waited for him to come closer to her.
His hand was on her waist and she was backing up against the wall as he moved in on her, she gasped upon feeling his touch and then he was kissing her with no introduction to what he wanted, he easily parted her lips for his tongue to skillfully explore her mouth.
Caroline should be pushing him away but instead she was pulling him closer to her, answering his sweet tongue, kissing him like she never kissed anyone before, she wanted him and she knew that it was so wrong to want a man like she wanted Klaus.
He broke the kiss restraining from doing something very primitive against a wall, Caroline seemed to have the ability to wake this side in him, a side that he wasn't really comfortable with because it wasn't under his strict control.
She was panting and maybe he was too, he couldn't tell, her lips were far too distracting.
"How was the hunting?" she unexpectedly asked.
He could tell that the question surprised even her, Klaus smiled a weakening smile. "Primal." It was only fair that she should know what was on his mind.
Caroline licked her lips, he could hear her heart galloping, her cheeks were heated and he couldn't quite get over the fact that she felt so good melted against him.
Languorously he moved one hand from her waist to her back, slowly feeling her, he didn't avert his eyes from hers as his fingers came down and outlined her perfect curves, she whimpered unwillingly when he reached her bare leg.
"You really look amazing tonight." he whispered closely to her face.
And there it was, a powerful look on her that he couldn't explain just that he wanted to see it always on her, this was exactly how Caroline should always look, powerful and maybe even a little flustered under his touch.
"You should get back to your party, it's rude to leave the guests alone." she smiled.
He he was pretty sure that he was the one looking flustered now as she sinfully batted those long eyelashes of hers, he nodded but Caroline slowly wrapped her hand around his tie and pulled him closer to her, Klaus complied and his hand moved to the small of her back pressing her closer to him, she trapped her lower lip under her teeth.
She was an angel taunting him and doing as she pleased with him so he cupped her cheek and roughly kissed her, he wasn't a man to be controlled by any woman, even less by a faultless divinity.
Caroline had him where she wanted him and she broke the kiss when she wanted, he could have stopped her as she pushed him away but he wasn't that kind of a man either, he smiled at her and then walked away.
Caroline closed her eyes and rested her head against the wall, she had no idea why she was playing his game and why she loved it so much.
"You are not going to the party happening chez your best friend?" Katherine asked from the sofa.
Damon shook his head. "You sister will be there, with her judging eyes and her judging words and her judging everything." he said stirring the drink inside of his glass.
Katherine snuggled the blanket closer to her though she wasn't cold, she just had a sore body from all the pain that Stefan put her through.
Damon looked at her, sitting on the other sofa across her. "You really have no idea how you ended up on my floor drugged with so much Vervain that you could produce the plant?"
She shook her head. "I didn't see who it was, I just felt a sting and then a blur when I blacked out."
"A blond, spiky-hair blur, perhaps?" He asked raising an eyebrow.
Katherine smiled. "I don't know if it was him Damon."
"What do you know?" He asked annoyed.
"That I don't want to go home."
Damon stood up from the sofa and poured himself another drink. "It's a big house, make yourself comfortable but my room is off-limits." he warned her before leaving.
Katherine had a dark semblance as she picked up her phone, she dialed his number and went to the library for some privacy, she was upset that he didn't answer her call, she was flying solo here now and she wanted to check on their plan, plus she really wanted to kick Stefan's ass for treating her like this.
As soon as Elena arrived to the party she searched for her sister and she was happy to find Caroline drinking alone in a corner, she had been locked inside of her room all day and now needed her big sister's comfort. "Hey..." she said grabbing a glass for herself as the smiling waiter offered her a beverage.
"Hi, I went by your room but you were still in the shower and I was already late." Caroline quickly apologized for not waiting as she usually would've done.
"It's ok..." Elena took a small sip from her drink and smiled though it was a sad smile.
"What did Damon do this time?" Caroline asked with a sigh.
"I found Kat in his bed yesterday." she said happy that she had been kind on her makeup because it was about to get tainted.
"What?" Caroline was stunned.
"I went to his house and she was sleeping in his bed... she was just... there and he was all cool about it like it was just... normal." she had a bigger take on her drink now.
"Did he have an explanation?" Caroline asked knowing that it wouldn't make much difference to Elena.
Elena shrugged. "Does it even matter? I keep living in her shadow Care, everything she does is bigger, sexier, more dangerous and exciting. I'm the boring one."
Caroline shook her head. "The world can't handle two fiery Katherines and you know how much I love you exactly as you are."
Elena smiled warmly at her while Lexi approached them.
"Did Katherine come with you? She's not picking up any of my calls." Lexi asked Elena.
"No, I haven't seen her ever since she weaseled her way into my boyfriend's bed." Elena bitterly informed her.
Lexi was surprised. "She did what?"
"What I said." Elena grabbed another drink.
"But why?" Lexi asked still not believing that Katherine would do something like that and then not tell her about it.
"I don't why Lexi, maybe to discuss hair products with Damon while they were both naked?" Elena snapped.
"I know what she was doing there, I just don't get why she would actually go through with it." Lexi said uneasily.
"She's obsessed with him and she wanted him ever since he arrived to town." Elena said mad.
"Well it takes two Elena to end up in a bed." Lexi replied as upset as she was.
The youngest was fuming. "Of course that you would take her side…" She rolled her eyes. "Are you really going to stand there and defend her after this?"
"I'm not defending her, I'm being protective." Lexi hissed.
"Ok guys, time out." Caroline intervened finally having enough of the fight.
But Elena wasn't having any of this, her boyfriend was cheating on her and her older sister was defending Katherine on top of it all. "I don't want a time out, I'm upset about this and I won't forgive Kat for her actions this time." Elena finished her drink mad.
"There's a lot that you don't know Elena." Lexi lost her usual cool.
Caroline closed her eyes annoyed and then moved between them, facing Lexi in particular. "That's enough. We can do this at home, not in the middle of a party in someone else's house while everyone is looking at us." Caroline said between her teeth.
Lexi shook her head. "And of course that you are taking her side."
"Give it a rest Lexi." she sternly said.
"Katherine needs our help, she doesn't need everyone turning on her." Lexi wasn't going to give up that easily.
Caroline narrowed her eyes at her. "And we'll deal with it later, at home."
Lexi looked away from Caroline, she noticed the interested looks from the Mikaelsons and the gawking stares from the other guests, she faced Caroline again who wasn't budging from where she was, standing in front of Elena, so slowly she backed down. "Fine." she smiled sarcastically at Caroline and left the party, she didn't even remember Matt as she stormed away.
Caroline found her best smile the only weapon against the embarrassing moment and the nosy crowd slowly moved on to further desiccate the moment in whispers and fueled gossip looks at the remaining sisters.
Elena was barely holding her tears and Caroline pointed at the hallway. "Come on, we need some fresh air." She easily grabbed a bottle of champagne from the kitchen on their way to the terrace lounge.
It was a little secret place in the house and where she had dinner with Klaus when it was still under construction, the girls headed to the roof, to a little extension of the house that would work wonderfully for when Klaus wanted to be alone and away from his family.
"So the Forbes aren't as picture-perfect as they ooze? I'm shocked that the half-human, half-vampire family is just like us." Kol commented amused.
"I doubt that they will ever reach our epic quarrel standards." Klaus returned the amusement and then smiled at Bonnie who was walking up to them. "Your girl looks especially sexy tonight."
"Keep the compliments for yourself Nik or I'll start saying what comes to mind every time that the blonde comes in looking all tasty." Kol smirked at Klaus.
"You know that I have a thing for witches..." Klaus pressed on with a dark smile.
Kol dropped the troubling bickering and smiled at his girl, she did look incredible tonight in her smooth wet-leather pants and the cleavage-showing tight long shirt that she was rocking over it.
"We have a party crasher." she said pointing at the door and terminating the brother's smiling mood, specially Klaus'.
Tyler grabbed a drink but made a displeased sound when he tasted the beverage.
"A little too refine for your palate?" Klaus came near him smiling.
"Guess so." he simply answered and while having a big look around the room.
"She's not here." Klaus informed him.
Tyler looked at him. "Look dude, I just want to talk to her so you don't have to lie."
Klaus laughed softly while raising his eyebrows. "You have quite the audacity mate... you crash into my party, come inside my house and dish my champagne and as if that wasn't enough you also call me a liar."
Tyler sighed. "Where's Caroline?"
Klaus shrugged. "I don't keep track of all my guests but she's not in the room, is she?"
Tyler looked around again and then at Klaus. "It's a big house but I'm sure that I can find her myself."
Klaus stopped Tyler immediately. "I'd think really hard about your next move." he hissed down at Tyler.
The boy smiled at him. "You wouldn't do anything... the shallow party at your new house is your big presentation to the town so it would look bad if you got into a bloodied fight with a guest."
Klaus smiled and moved so that Tyler could carry on with his walk, when Klaus looked at Kol his brother knowingly nodded at him.
Elena handed Caroline the bottle back after drinking a huge portion from it, she smiled at Caroline. "This is exactly what I needed."
Caroline looked at the practically empty bottle. "I can see that."
Elena giggled.
"You should talk to Kat though, before you kill her and Damon." Caroline sweetly said.
"You're right..." she pursed her lips followed by a sigh.
"Maybe it's not even as bad as it looks... it usually never is and Katherine is our sister. She's family, not Damon." Caroline said serious.
"God, stop being so perfect Care." Elena flared out of nowhere.
"Wow, why are you attacking me?" Caroline asked surprised.
"I'm not attacking you but I love him Caroline and I don't want to lose him."
"He's just a guy Elena." Caroline grumbled before drinking from the bottle.
Elena was incisive as she glared at Caroline. "Like Klaus is just a guy?"
Caroline stopped drinking and slowly cleaned her mouth. "What are you talking about?"
"Do you really think that I'm that blind? I know that there's something going on between you and him."
"You're delusional." Caroline quickly said.
"Ever since they arrived that you have been glued to his side and there's something different about you as well."
"You obviously had too much to drink." Caroline said widening her eyes.
Angrily Elena pressed on. "He renovated this entire house as an excuse to have you in here every day for the past month."
Caroline laughed while shaking her head. "He did not. Don't be ridiculous, he wanted a house and he got a house. That's what Klaus does, he makes things happen."
"Are you even listening to yourself right now? You've met a guy for four weeks and already you know him so well."
"I know him from what I asked Damon..." she said easily but suddenly stopped when she noticed how Elena was looking at her.
"Why would you ask questions about Klaus?" Elena was suspicious, this was only adding to her bad feeling.
"Mom and dad invited these vampires into our home, I just wanted to know more about them before they got here." Caroline quickly tried to defend herself.
"Every time that the two of you are inside of the same room, you can't keep your eyes away from him and he's the same about you, he's always sneaking looks in your direction... then there's the dancing, the easy talking and you are always laughing when you are with him." Elena was hurt. "He's a man we know nothing good about and he is slowly conquering my sister."
Caroline pressed her lips but it still wasn't enough to contain the moody comment. "So was Damon and I still supported you in everything."
"And now I'm here, making awful movies inside of my head because I don't trust him enough to believe that he didn't sleep with Kat. How do you know that Klaus isn't just using you, playing you until he gets what he wants?" Elena asked her softly now.
Caroline laughed again appalled. "I will not fall in love with someone like Klaus, I know better."
Elena sighed. "Is that why you can't take that bracelet off?"
Caroline gasped speechless, as Elena left she touched the bracelet that he gave her and that she had with her every day.
Caroline glided her hands through her hair, Elena was right, she was different when Klaus was around and her sister didn't even know about her secret deal with Klaus or their adventures in the woods and the sinful kisses.
But Caroline was alone now and she had to admit to herself that he was slowly crawling inside of her skin with his devilish smile and the intriguing personality, his immense intelligence behind every word and action, he was pulling her in and keeping her where he wanted her to be.
He was an expert fiddling with minds and feelings, he knew which button to push, he deliberately said what people wanted to hear, what she wanted to hear.
He was manipulating her, maneuvering her into doing what he wanted and she was easily falling for it all, so fast that she was about to crash hard without a parachute.
Caroline remembered Rebekah's words and they blended in with Elena's, along with her own insecurities.
With a slow motion Caroline came closer to the edge of the terrace lounge and licked her lips, she knew that she was all alone in here, no one would find here so she had time to get ready.
She stepped on top of the ledge, where they had sat together once and where he had talked openly to her about his past, she looked down shaky, it would be a tall fall so it would probably be quick, in the end she would still be in charge of her own fate.
The longer she thought about it the more sense it made to her.
With an awfully speeding heart she closed her eyes, her chest was beginning to ache but it all made so much sense now, why wait another week, why admit to Klaus then what she refused to acknowledge now?
She already allowed this to go far enough, she was changing because of him, she wasn't the girl who watched vampires feed and then make out with them against a wall.
How could she be the girl who loved the dark side of Klaus so much?
He was messing with her and she wanted it to stop.
This was the perfect way to go, they were all too busy with the party to notice her absence and with a tiny step she came closer to the edge, between harsh intakes and a heartbeat stridently hammering in her ears Caroline smiled, it was somewhat peaceful when she took that final step.
But instead of a plummeting fall she was violently propelled backwards and staggered against a hard chest, she opened her eyes surprised to see Klaus holding her desperately against him.
"What on earth were you thinking?" he asked her furious.
She gulped down. "Putting an end to everything."
"Why are you so keen on taking your life?" he asked her between clenched angry teeth.
"Why are you so set on saving it?" she quietly asked him back.
Klaus grabbed her shoulders tighter and pulled her even closer to him, she knew that his fingers were leaving a black mark for the next day.
"I still have three days left sweetheart." he reminded her dead-serious.
"No... you only have two days, it's past midnight Klaus." she said without much fuss.
He really couldn't understand the girl's fixation with ending her life. "It's still 48 hours love." he said slowly.
She smiled at him. "For someone with a billion days behind him, you seem really attached to two lousy days."
He chuckled. "And for someone so extraordinary, you seem really dense to the point of throwing it all away."
She frowned. "Throw what, away?"
"What I'm willing to give you, something that I never offered anyone else before you."
"I don't want it Klaus." she bit her tongue because it sounded more and more of a lie each time she said it.
He roughly pushed her away, he was mad, hurt by her words, by her rejection, he never made such an effort with any woman before and she was constantly saying no to him.
Klaus left without a word and she quickly made her exit home, she couldn't stay here any longer.
Tyler left after her, he saw her rush away and tried to call her but she didn't seem to listen to him or even recognize his voice at all, she just drove away fast and he was left in the middle of the road calling for her name, he shook his head frustrated that he missed a chance to talk to her and to set things straight between them.
As he turned around he was greeted by Kol with a smile.
"Good evening..."
Tyler huffed. "Big brother sent you here? Don't bother, I was already on my way to the car."
"Please do stay." he said with a dark twisted smile and his hand pressed to his chest. "We insist."
Tyler ignored the Original and started walking to his car but he didn't go far because a sharp pain hit his head and he fell to his knees screaming, short of breath he faced the exotic beautiful woman standing before him.
"Bonnie love... we are not supposed to kill him just yet." Kol said and laced his arms around her waist from behind her while he smiled at Tyler who was starting to bleed from his nose.
She sighed not amused that she had to stop but she released the werewolf's mind nonetheless.
Kol kissed her cheek and then walked over to Tyler. "My brother requests a meeting wolfboy." he punched him hard, leaving him unconscious because of it.
Caroline couldn't sleep, she tossed around in bed restless, nothing made sense anymore, she should be happy that she told the devil that she refused his offers, that she was strong enough to resist his allure but strangely she felt bad.
Last night had been so different, she had a hard time falling asleep but as a result from the excitement of it all, now in the dark of her bedroom Caroline's heart was hurting but not from her illness but from Klaus' reaction to her doings and her words tonight.
The thought lingered in the air, he was becoming an illness as well, an unhealthy slow consuming illness that was bound to devour her entirely.
Finally she had enough of her thoughts and left her bed and her room, she went to the kitchen for water, there was nothing but silence and darkness as she walked through the hallways and then down the stairs.
Caroline didn't really drink the water, she just needed an excuse to get out of bed and she faced the window gloomily, it was a beautiful night tonight and she unconsciously played with the bracelet that he gave her.
She looked down sad, how lost do you have to be, when you wish for the devil to come for you at night?
And her sweet devil was there, waiting for her when she lifted her eyes.
Caroline gulped down, her heart was beating fast in that familiar way now, the way that it gave her feelings away.
She dropped the water and walked over to the kitchen door, she could see him through the small gate, he was just standing there like she expected someone to describe the devil in our days, wearing a black leather jacket over a purple shirt, she could also see the necklaces that had been hiding under the classic shirt at his party.
Once at the door she didn't go to him, she might be falling hard for the devil but she wasn't going to rush to his side.
"It's rude to leave a party without saying goodbye to the host sweetheart." he said without smiling.
Caroline didn't like that, she loved his smile. "I figured that I had done enough harm for one night..."
He licked his lips. "If my offer is enough to drive someone to the edge of a ledge then I reckon that it's time that I reconsider."
Caroline looked into his devilish eyes. "Really, why does it bother you so much? I'm no one, I'm just a simple girl who doesn't understand your infatuation. Am I really that worthy of such an elaborated plan? I'm sure you had bigger and more rewarding challenges."
"You are not part of a plan."
"I'm not a game to you and your sadistic ways?" she asked him quietly.
"No." he was stern.
Yet she believed him. "What am I to you?"
He watched her while thinking about his next words. "You could be everything Caroline."
His words took her off guard and they left her dizzy but she could always blame her heart for it, when he came closer to her his wonderful strong smell hit her hard, when he touched her face she wanted to curse him for making her feel this way, for feeling at all.
"I know why you want to end it all, it's because you don't feel anything but the growing pain of knowing that you are already dead inside." he spoke with uncanny determination. "You're scared that the ticking bomb inside of your chest will catch up to the real withering consuming you inside."
Caroline looked away from him, she wasn't strong enough to start refuting his accuracy now.
"I'm not that different from you Caroline."
Bitterly she chuckled. "The devil is telling me that I'm like him."
"The devil has a name."
Caroline slowly looked at him, maybe her words should have been kept to herself.
He smiled taunting her, he could see that fire wanting to come out of her.
"I want you to go."
"Level with me Caroline…" He took another step towards her. "The devil knows a lie better than anyone."
"Then you know what scares me so much."
"I do but I want you to say it out loud." He glided his palm across her cheek.
Slightly leaning her face against his warm hand she asked. "What happens if you fall in love with me Nik?"
It was a sad smile that crossed his lips. "Then I guess I'll be a devil trapped in paradise, won't I?"
Caroline touched his chest, she moved her hand slowly over his shirt to feel his body under her hand and she was breathing hard when she reached his neck, she may have been dead inside before he came into her life but she was very alive now.
"Are you fearful of giving in?" He asked staring down on her full lips.
"Of admitting that I already did Nik." she replied in a low whisper.
Klaus touched her red lips with his thumb, when he leaned in his hot breath tickled them, she moved closer to him and he slowly raised his eyes to meet hers, there was a hint to an honest smile when he moved to kiss her.
Caroline kissed him back feeling everything inside of her burn with desire, with passion and love, all the things that she thought to be a lie because she had never felt them before.
Her hand moved to his chest again, she loved how strong Klaus felt under her touch and then she surrendered with a small moan, Klaus had moved his lips to her neck and she felt everything but dead inside.
