Don't you know,

(distance makes the heart grow stronger.)

Axel was surprised to say the least, at the number calling him. The text, he had missed while taking his shower, also surprised him, but he didn't have time to respond before his little phone went off. For a second he forgot what he was doing and let his wet hair drip onto his back. Sure they texted each other, but calling was different. A whole other thing. He let it ring exactly four times before his senses came back to him and he quickly answered.

"Roxas?"

"Can we hang out?" His voice sounded rough.

"Now? Kid, it's nighttime. Won't your brother be worried?"

"Who cares. Come get me please, it looks like rain."

Axel grumbled for a few seconds. If he wanted to be more wet than he was, he would have stayed in the shower. But it wasn't as if the little blonde knew he didn't own a car.

"Give me a minute. I have to find my keys." And put on real clothes. He added mentally, pulling at his black tank top and baggy black shorts. "Where do you want to go?"

"Your place should be fine, can I stay the night too?"

More grumbling came before Axel said "fine", as he hurried to get dressed. He didn't want to be stuck into the rain on his bike again.

"Thank you." It was simple, but sincere.

Axel stared at the blonde on his couch, well really it was Luxord's but same difference. He crossed his arms as he leaned against the wall next to the TV on the other side of the room.

"So why did you really call." He didn't mean to sound rude, but what a strange time to call. He knew that Roxas liked to stay inside at night and do a variety of things before finally falling asleep, either in front of his computer or on his bed.

"Do I need a reason?" Roxas looked around the room, eyes totally avoiding Axel's. "I just thought we could chill."

"Right." Axel said sarcasticly. "Don't you, ya know, wanna go write your story or something."

Roxas looked out the wimdow, narrowing his eyes. "W-writer's block."

"Nothing to do with Sora?"

"No."

"Really?" Axel asked pushing himself off the wall.

"You know, I never remember telling you his name."

"Cause he seemed really worried when he texted me. Usually it's just funny advice about his boyfriend he's after but this... and right after you called. I was barely out the door. Nah, who am I kidding, I didn't even take off my shirt before he texted." Axel continued on as if he had never heard Roxas.

"Even you knew? Wait he texted you?" Roxas looked confused.

Axel just laughed. "Didn't you know? He stole my number a long time ago."

"And he told you about him and Riku?"

"If that's the guy who came with you two to England, I guess so."

Roxas, for the first time since arriving finally looked into Axel's eyes. "Why didn't he tell me? I'll his best friend. I would have helped or whatever he needed."

The redhead sighed. "Do you tell him everything about your life?"

"W-well no, of coarse not. But I'm still his brother. We're closer than anyone." Roxas buffer refusing to see his fault in the matter.

"Even brothers can drift apart. Everyone has the ability to keep things that will eventually drive people away." Axel remembered when him and Reno were close. But as years passed even they drifted away from each other. For years, Axel had blamed it on their mother's death. "Even family members. We do things thinking it best for the other not to know and push them away. If only..." he trailed off.

"I'd only?" Roxas asked.

Axel smiled widely. "Well, even if you do distance yourself, they say that distance makes the heart grow stronger."

Maybe being around Axel a little bit would make Roxas feel better.
