Hi guys, are you still out there? I'm terribly sorry for taking this long again, but I've really had problems writing these past few months. But here it is, chapter 10. Hope you like it and let me know if you are still with me ;)

Enjoy!

Chapter 10.

Harry had never ever been this scared in his whole life. He was just sitting there, in the police car, waiting, together with Davies.

Davies was listening to what was happening on the radio through his earpiece and Harry's only way of knowing what was going on was by monitoring Davies's facial expressions.

After a few minutes, Harry could see something close to a smile appearing on his face.

"They have arrested one of them," he said.

Harry nodded.

"And the other one?"

Davies suddenly looked very serious again.

"What is it?" asked Harry, while his heart rate went up again. "What?!"

"The other man insists on taking a hostage with him to get outside," Davies said.

Harry froze; he knew that was going to be Nikki, because he was quite sure Nigel wasn't able to walk.

"They are going through with it," Davies said.

"What?! They can't! who knows what this man is going to do to her when he doesn't need her anymore?! Do you even have any idea who this guy is?"

"Dr Cunningham, you need to calm down. We know what we are doing, alright, this isn't our first job. All we can do now is wait."

Harry didn't really listen; his pulse was raising by the second and he just wanted to get out of this van and get Nikki.

"They are coming out. You can watch through the windows, but do not go outside, okay?"

The van driver had driven away from the entrance and now they were parked at the other side of the parking area, out of sight.

Davies got two pairs of binoculars and handed one of them to Harry.

"Look! There they are!"

Indeed, Nikki and the man exited the building and looked around for a few seconds. The man pulled Nikki by her arm and they resumed their run towards the far end of the car park, the end closest to the exit, away from Harry and the police van. Nikki seemed to be holding some kind of bag; drugs?!

He couldn't really see them properly, because they kept disappearing behind cars they ran by.

At a certain moment he lost sight of them completely and he suddenly grew very scared again.

After a few more seconds a loud bang sounded and Davies immediately pulled out his gun.

"Everybody get outside right now! A gun had been fired, I repeat, a gun has been fired!" Davies said to his team through his radio and opened the back doors of the van.

That same moment they could hear screeching tires and a car drove away from the far end of the car park at high speed.

Davies jumped out of the car and started running in the direction of that spot.

Harry jumped out as well and ran after him, with his heart pounding crazy and panic striking him harder with every step he took.

They got closer and closer without seeing anyone, until suddenly his heart stopped for a few seconds and he stopped dead in his tracks. Nikki was down, her clothes colouring red from the blood, running from a gunshot wound in her chest. Her eyes were shut and she was showing no signs of life.

She is dead, she has got to be, he shot her right through her heart…

No, it just couldn't be!

"NIKKI! NIKKI!" Harry screamed and he ran the last few yards to her, but there came no response.

He fell to his knees and looked at her bloody body.

"Nikki, God please no, please…"

He took off his jacket and covered her upper body with it.

Let there be a pulse… Please!

Slowly he pressed his fingers onto her neck and prayed, for the first time in his life.

He could feel something! She was still alive! The bullet must just have missed her heart!

Still, things were not looking good; yes, he could feel a pulse, but it was faint and he realised she could slip away on this very moment.

He started pressing on the gunshot wound to keep her from bleeding out and he could hear an ambulance approaching.

Within a minute he got pulled backwards by Davies and two paramedics kneeled down beside Nikki.

Harry really didn't want to leave her, but somehow his whole body had gone numb and he allowed Davies to lead him back to the police van.

"We will drop you off at the hospital," Davies said to him while the ambulance raced away, its siren echoing through Harry's head.

Davies took him to a police car which was parked next to the police van and sat him down in the back. He got in the driver's seat and started the car.

As they exited the parking area, Harry could just see the spot where Nikki had been shot only a few minutes earlier; a small pool of blood marked the worst thing that had ever happened to him. If he was going to lose her, he really wouldn't know what to do. Suddenly it became clear to him he had to let Leo know.

He got his phone out of his pocket and called him.

"Harry?" his boss's voice sounded.

"Leo, I –"

"Harry, you know I said you could only call me in an absolute emergency, don't you?"

He sounded a bit annoyed; he had probably been right in the middle of something.

"Nikki has been shot."

For a second the line went dead silent.

"What? How?" he asked softly.

"It doesn't matter. The thing is, I'm not so sure she will make it –"

Harry stopped talking as soon as he realised what he had just said.

It was true; she could die any moment – maybe she was already dead, oh God!

"Harry? Harry! Try and stay calm, Janet and I will take the first flight, alright? We will be with you as soon as possible!"

"Y-yes… Okay."

He hung up the phone and the panic rushed through his body again.

Please… Make it through, Nikki…

So what do you reckon? Is she going to make it or not?

Hope you liked it, please leave me a lovely, little review if you can spare the time ;) I will try to update a little faster from now on, but I can't promise you anything.
