Snape's Family chp.10

Raven couldn't believe her eyes . . .

Malchoir turned, a charming smile plastered on his handsome face.
"Ahh, finally, please sit down."

From the corner of her eye, Raven watched as Hermione sighed, her eyelids fluttering slightly. And that added to her anger. Her four crimson eyes flashed into existence before she could compose herself. She glanced around, hoping that no one noticed her slip-up. After all, four eyes aren't exactly common, even in the wizard world.

Raven hurried to her seat, glaring as she passed Malchior.

Malchior clapped his hands as they took their seats, he looked almost gleefull. "Alright, everyone, sit down, I am Professor Rorek," He glanced around, an attractive smirk on his lips. " What do you know about Demons?"

The young witches and wizards filed out of the classroom as the bell rung. Hermione frowned, not seeing her new friend following them. Hermione zeroed in on her location and abruptly pulled the two boys behind the door as Raven stalked up to the newest professor.
"What are you doing here, Malchior, how did you get out ?" She spat.
Hermione gasped, How could Raven be so rude, and to a teacher?

"What on earth do you mean, my dear Raven?" He asked innocently. " Dont play this game, how did you get out?"
Malchior reached out and caressed her cheek with the back of his fingers. "Dear, sweet Raven, you are truly as stunning as the last time I saw you," He tilted her head up towards him with a perfect smile on his sculpted features. "But you should not disrespect you're superiors."

Raven snarled and jerked forward, as if to lunge at him. She took a deep breath and spun on her heel and swept out of the room in a very Snape-like fashion, too deep in her thoughts to notice the Golden Trio. She flew right past them and they threw their eyes up, as if thanking whatever God or holy being was up there. Once Raven was out of sight they relaxed.

Hermione shrieked as the window beside them shattered, raining glass on the three students. They all shared a look before sprinting towards the Great Hall.

At dinner that evening, Raven was silent, which to her magical friends was odd. In the amount of time they've known her, she always had a witty retort or an addition to Fred and George's latest prank or a halfhearted insult aimed at Ron.

The twins plopped down on either side of her and slung their arms over her shoulders.
"Why the loooong face, Rae?" They pouted.
They leaned away from her slowly as she stabbed a piece of chicken viciously with her fork.
They gulped and shared a look before deciding to leave her alone. Once a safe distance away they turned to each other. "Time of the month." They agreed simultaneously.

Raven glared at her plate as of it was the reason for all her problems. Harry watched her cautiously,
"Are you alright, Raven?"
Raven nodded. Her attention was taken away from Harry when she noticed Professor Snape missing from the head table. She excused herself from the table and swept out of the Great Hall, Hermione watching closely.

"There's something odd about her." She muttered. Harry and Ron looked up. "Who?" Ron said around a mouthful of potatoes. Hermione grimaced "Raven!"
"What's so odd about her?" Harry asked.
Hermione's jaw dropped,
"You honestly can't say you haven't noticed!" She exclaimed.

Harry hesitated "Well. . ." He trailed off and Hermione gave him a pointed look. "I thought you liked Raven!"
"I do like Raven." Hermione stated.

Ron suddenly sat up, back straight and a confused look on his face. " I like Raven and all, but I agree with Hermione," He hesitated. "And did you see her in Defense, it was really scary. . ." He trailed off as he saw his friends' confused expressions.

"You didn't see that?" He asked and and they shook their heads.
"Oh, never mind then, it was probably just my imagination-"
"No," Hermione exclaimed. "What did you see?"

" Well. . ." Ron explained about the four red flashes he had seen and Hermione narrowed her eyes. Hermione hummed "I'm going to the library." And with that she ran in the direction of the library with a crazed sparkle in her eye.

The two boys turned to each other, wide eyed "Merlin, what have you done?" Ron nodded, horrified.

Severus watched his niece as she paced the length of the lounge in his private chambers. She glowered at the ground with a ferocity that Severus had never seen on his neice before, and to be honest, it scared him.

His head snapped towards his cluttered desk as glasses, ink wells, quills and a stack of first year Hufflepuffs homework, among other objects started shaking violently. "Raven," he said softly."Calm yourself."
Her eyes found the shaking desk and she sighed, closing her eyes. When her eyes opened, the desk was still and she let out a small smile.
"Alright now?" Severus raised an eyebrow and Raven nodded.
"What am I going to do, Sev?" She sighed. "Those spells I put on the book were flawless. Charms, spells, chants, enchantments, incantations-you name it, I've done it all! But he still managed to get out-HOW?! How did he do it?"

Raven was loosing her temper, Severus realized too late as his ink bottles exploded and splattered the walls and the Hufflepuff's homework. "You need to calm your mind, Raven." He drawled, giving her a pointed look as he flicked his wand, repairing the bottles and draining the ink from the parchment.

Raven gave a small nod and sat on the floor, closing her eyes. She crossed her legs beneath her and lay out her hands, palms facing up and fingers curled lightly. She opened one eye and quirked a brow at him. Her uncle rolled his eyes and kicked off his shoes. He took his place in front of her, mirroring her position. They started to chant and slowly levitated, their cloaks floating softly around them.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos"

Ron and Harry stared wide eyed at the tall piles of books stacked atop the desk. They could hear Hermione mumbling as she flicked through the pages of a rather thick tome and pausing every so often to hastily scribble on a spare roll of parchment. The boys froze as Hermione scowled and slammed the book shut, wincing as it echoed around the high ceilinged room. Hermione stood and, with a wave of her wand, placed her belongings in her bag quickly. She rubbed at her face in frustration, smudging ink on her nose. Rons gaze connected with the Madame Pinces, her nostrils flaring and lips pursed in a thin line.

"Theres nothing here!" Hermione stormed out of the library, leaving the two pale boys to the wrath of Hogwarts resident librarian.

"You are letting your emotions take control." He stated in his usual drawl. Raven glanced up at him as she slowly gathered her books. A cauldron was stewing gently on the table before him.

Raven had always loved watching her uncle at work as a child. Only Severus could make such a perfect concoction with so much grace. When she was younger, she longed to be much like him, so much she had once tried to wear his clothes but, sadly, they were much too big. Severus had found the small seven year old at the dinner table that night drowned in dark clothing, the sleeves flopping all over the place and her kicking her little legs up in the air, trying to keep the trousers from dragging behind her. Every so often, she would flick her head to the side to keep her hair out of her eyes. His sister, Arella, had covered her mouth with her hand and let out a breathy laugh. Even now, nine years later, the memory still brings a smile to face.

"It wont happen again." She mirrored his tone, Severus vaguely had to remind himself that this was how Raven always spoke, that she wasn't just a student trying to be sassy. He pursed his lips. "You won't allow them to take over or you wont allow them through?"

Raven paused in her organisation. That was all he needed for an answer.

He reached towards her and she stepped into his arms willingly, a soft smile gracing her features. He wrapped his arms around her slender frame securely and she tucked her head under his chin snugly, just like when she was younger. Oh, how Severus missed those days.

He let out a sigh, where had those times gone? Severus held her at arms length, her dark amethyst eyes shining up at him. He, regrettably, hasn't seen her in years, yet it was as if she never left. She just fit right back into the scheme of things, as if she had attended Hogwarts ever since she was eleven.

But thats what they are taught at Azarath, he remembered bitterly, to adapt to situations quickly and betray no emotions.
Severus would be eternally grateful to the monks of Azarath for saving his sister, but he loathed how Raven had spent the majority of her life there. How from an early age, she was ordered to bottle her emotions into a pocket universe in the back of her mind and was practising to control demonic magic. He couldn't even imagine how difficult it must have been for her.

Severus, in NO way idealised his own childhood. He hated what his parents - if he could even call them that - had put himself and Arella through. Due to all the fighting and screaming and yelling that went on in his own childhood house, he had wanted Arella to give Raven a normal, safe place that she could call a home. But instead, Raven grew up around strict training and even stricter meditation.
He smiled and tugged the tips of her hair playfully, it seemed she was letting it grow out.
" You look so much like your mother." Raven beamed. Lights flickered but Severus paid them no mind.

"You should get back to your room, its getting late." His niece nodded and slipped out of his arms. She paused as she opened the door, and turned back towards her uncle, a small quirk at the side of her mouth. "Dont be too hard on the twins, they're just messing about." Severus stroked his waist coat down, as if was making sure that the frills and lace had disappeared for good. Raven rolled her eyes. Honestly, did he really doubt her talent? After all, SHE was the one that got rid of that monstrosity. She had taken great joy in tossing it into the flames, but was still a tad bit disappointed that she wouldn't see her uncle wearing something so ridiculous again. At least, not for a quite a while, anyway.

She silently shut the door and heaved a sigh, rubbing beneath her eyes. Why was she so tired? It had barely been a week since she left her team, she had no training or spars, she was not constantly being interrupted, yet she was more exhausted than she had, physically, felt in a while. She groaned softly as she remembered training. Azar, how could she have forgotten? Robin would be horrified with how she had completely disregarded her duties and responsibilities. She almost rolled her eyes at herself. Most would jump for joy at the thought of avoiding Robin's training practice and spars, yet she was thinking of ways that she could replace his intense daily workout. If there was one thing she knew about Robin, is that he is no slacker. He gets the job done, and he gets results . . . most of the time. Raven blinked, the fatigue was really getting to her.

She glanced around the deserted hallway. The dungeons were cold and silent. Exactly what she had expected, after all, the potions ingredients needed to be kept cool and it WAS after curfew. Raven was surprised her uncle had allowed her to stay that long. She flicked her sleeves up her arms, a trick she had learnt from Severus. He had always loved looking intimidating, intense and graceful, all at the same time. It seemed to be a look that the Snapes have perfected.

She brought her hands out in front of her, palms facing together, as if she was praying. Her eyes slid shut and a dark aura enveloped her and she was instantly transported to her bed, where the other girls were already asleep and blissfully unaware of their roommates late entry.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos."
