Chapter Ten

Ed shoved his hand into his pockets, fishing his keys out before letting himself into his apartment. Inside he found that everything was clean and orderly and bother his mom and brother was on the couch reading. Scratching the back of his head, he closed the door behind him and sat his keys on the counter.

"What have you guys been doing?" He asked, startling the pair.

"Mom cleaned up some before we started reading some of the books we brought along," Al replied, smiling before setting his book on the coffee table.

Nodding, Ed returned the smile. "I am going to take a shower quick before getting my room ready for you, mom. Al and I can sleep out year like we used to at home."

He pulled his hair tie from his hair and his shirt off as he made his way into the bathroom. Once inside, he quickly stripped the rest of his clothing and showered. The hot water washed the grease from his skins and hair as he stood there thinking of the issue he was going to have for the next day. Roy was coming over. All of the guys are coming over. Groaning, he shook his head as he began to wash his hair. What am I going to do?

"You know brother," Al called through the doorway. "If you stay in there much longer you are going to turn into a prune."

Jumping slightly, Ed caught himself before falling and turned to look at the closed door. "Al, can you not scare a man in the shower!"

Laughter from the other side, Al continued. "You've been in there for nearly thirty minutes."

"What?" Ed swore under his breath as he rinsed the rest of the soap from his body and hopped out. "I'll be out in a minute." He pulled on a pair of sleeping pants before yanking the door open and running into his room.

"You worry too much, Ed," Trisha stated as she saw Ed running into his room. "You're thinking about tomorrow, aren't you?"

Ed heard the two follow him into his room. Sighing, he picked up the clothes he had left on the floor and threw them into a basket near his closet.

"Look, I am nervous. I know I shouldn't be but I think my normal state in life is nervousness lately," he stated as he pulled a clean sheet from his closet to put on the bed. "Roy is…" He stopped and looked at his family. "He's different. Not a bad different, just different."

"You know," his mom began with a smile on her face. "When I first met your father, I was the same way. I was constantly worried about how other people would think of him and what my family would think. It took me a long time to realize that all that really mattered was how I felt. Once they knew that I was happy then everything was alright." She paused before moving to give him a hug. "Now, stop being such a worry wart and relax a bit. I am sure that Roy is a perfectly fine gentleman."

Ed laughed at this. "Fine is one way to put it," he said under his breath, really hoping his mom hadn't heard but when she started to chuckle he knew it wasn't quiet enough.

"It's getting late, boys," she stated with a small push on Ed's back. "I'd like to get some sleep. If your friends are anything like the two of you when you get together, I won't have any rest tomorrow."

"Night, mom," Ed said, placing a small kiss on her left cheek as Al did the same to the right.

The two left the room and closed the door behind them before moving into the living room. Ed took a seat on the chair and propped his feet up on the coffee table while Al lay on the couch. Leaning back, Ed stared at the ceiling above him.

"You should have Roy come over before everyone else," Al stated as he shifted to a more comfortable position on the couch. "That way mom and I can have a chat with him."

"So you guys can scare him off, no thanks," Ed teased with a chuckle.

"Seriously, brother, we are worried about you being out here by yourself," the younger of the two said, glaring at his brother.

"Yea, I know." Ed shifted on the chair, crossing his arms of his chest and taking a deep breath. "I'm not really alone anyway. I have Roy, Jean and the others."

"You know what I mean, Ed."

"I do."

A quiet silence fell between them before Ed slowly began to feel himself drift off into a sleep. He hadn't really expected to work late enough to come home tired but his boss was being a jerk and then his shower was longer than usual as well.

"I'm serious, Ed."

"I'll call him in the morning, Al, I promise," Ed replied, his voice barely above a whisper before he finally fell into an uncomfortable sleep.

The next morning, Ed found himself woken up by a knock on the door. Jumping awake, Ed fell onto the floor before looking around and found that his brother was not on the couch. Al? Another knock on the door, told Ed that it was not his imagination that woke him up. Grumbling, he pushed himself up and moved over to the door.

"Good morning, sunshine," Ed was greeted with when he opened the door.

Tired golden eyes grew big when he saw Roy standing on the other side with Al next to him.

"Were you still sleeping, brother?" Al asked as he stepped into the apartment, gently moving Ed out of his way. "It's nearly 10. I was up early so I took and shower and then went for a walk."

Ed's head moved from Al to Roy and then back again before he motioned for Roy to enter his place. A small blush crossed his face when Roy leaned down and gave him a peck on the cheek.

"Hey! Let me wake up, will ya?" Ed nearly yelled before turning away from the two. "Where's mom?"

"She was in the shower when I left a little while ago," Al replied before he sat a small bag on the kitchen counter. "I'm sure she's just getting dressed." Al looked at his brother then at Roy, who was not so subtly staring at his brother. "I think maybe you should be getting dressed too, Roy looks like he's going to drool soon."

Roy just chuckled before turning away and moving to sit on the couch.

"Sure, just make yourselves at home," Ed whined before marching back to the bathroom and knocking on the door. When no answer came, he entered the bathroom and slightly slammed the door behind him.

"He's not really a morning person," Al stated before shaking his head and putting the milk he bought into the fridge.

"I took notice of that," was the reply he received from the dark-haired man.

Al glanced down the hallway, waiting for any signs of movement. Smiling at the stillness of the hall, he moved to take a seat on the chair Ed had previously been sleeping on. Crossing his feet, Al leaned forward and gave Roy a serious look.

"I want to know what you want from my brother."

Roy raised an eyebrow at the younger blond before sitting up straight and nodding. "I suspected as much," he replied before smiling. "I want nothing more from your brother than his honestly and loyalty."

"He mentioned that there were rumors about you but he neglected to tell me what they were," Al said with a nod before continuing. "Would you care to enlighten me on what they are?"

"Honestly, I don't but seeing how I am with your brother, it's only fair that you know them, as well." Roy took a deep breath. "There are a few rumors going around that I am a womanizer. Most make me out to be a pretty bad guy but I don't really get into the middle of the rumor pool. My friends keep me updated on the new things that I have apparently done."

"Womanizer?" Al shook his head. "If you like to date woman, why are you with Ed?"

"Why? Because I can be completely comfortable around him," Roy replied, glancing back at the hallway, where Trisha was now exiting the bedroom. "I've dated a lot of people but he's the only one that I can be myself with while in a relationship. My friends know me but it's different when you are dating someone."

"This is Ed's first real relationship," Trisha stated as she took a seat next to him.

"Yea, that's what I've heard," he stated with a nod. "I won't make him do anything that he's not comfortable with. I tease him a lot but there's no fun if I don't do that."

The three heard the bathroom door swing open loudly and turn to watch Ed move into bedroom where the door was once again shut loudly.

"He really doesn't like being woken up rudely, does he?" Roy asked with a raised eyebrow.

"You learn to let him wake up on his own and at his own pace," the boy's mother stated with a smile. "Once he's dressed he'll come out and be fine."

Nodding, Roy turned back around on the couch and stretched.

"How long have you guys been dating? Officially, that is." Al asked as he stood to make some coffee.

"I don't know. It's feels like a while but it was after he had been here for a bit," Roy replied, his eyes following Al into the kitchen. "Jean was the one who introduced us but I think he's pretty happy that we're together."

"Why do you say that?" Trisha asked from Roy's opposite side.

"I always used to tease him about stealing his girlfriends. Now that Ed and I are dating, he doesn't have to worry about me stealing anyone way from him," he chuckled in response.

This time when the bedroom door opened, it revealed a dress and happier Edward. His hair was once again pulled back into a higher pony and he was dressed in nice jeans and a deep red button down shirt.

"Oh, my, don't you look so handsome," Trisha said as she stood to give her son a hug and kiss.

"Mom…" Ed whined but returned the hug.

"Here you go, brother," Al said as Ed and Trisha walked passed the kitchen on their way to the living room.

"Thanks." Ed took the mug of coffee and took a swig before moving to sit next to Roy, where Trisha had sat before but he was quite a bit closer. "Sorry, I'm not a morning person."

"It's alright, your brother told me." Roy chuckled before leaning back and slowly putting his arm around Ed's shoulder.

"Have they grilled you yet?" He asked, trying his best to ignore the arm and keep the blush from arising on his face.

"Nothing harsh yet," Roy stated with a nod at Trisha, who was now sitting next to Ed. "I think I might live for a while."

"I don't know," Al said from the kitchen before moving to the living room with a tray of three mugs. "We haven't quite asked the right questions yet."

"The right questions?" Ed asked, raising both eyebrows and looking at Al. "I hope you don't mean what I think you do because if so then I might have to kill you myself, Al."

"I don't know what you are talking about, brother," Al said, innocently.

"Right…" Ed rolled his eyes before continuing to drink coffee.

Shaking his head, Al decided to change the subject. "When are all of your friends getting here?"

"No one gave me an exact time but knowing them they'll be here around lunch time for free food," Ed replied, nodding.

"Well then, perhaps we should be getting things ready then," Trisha stated as she stood. "Would you like to help, Roy?"

Roy nodded and then followed Al and Trisha into the kitchen to help with whatever they needed. Sighing, Ed placed his now empty mug on the coffee table before also cleaning up some of the mess from the previous night he and al slept on the couch. It wouldn't really be long now before his friends would show up and something told him that it wasn't the end of the questions from his mom or brother.
