The party was in full swing and Beryl couldn't be happier. She swished the red liquid around in her cup and took a long sip. She didn't really care for this beverage but the humans seemed to like it, and she was continuing this silly charade. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Treize approach and she pulled the glass away to smile. "We have so many employees now. I'm finding it hard to tell them apart."
"Sister, I have a present for you." Treize reached into his pocket and pulled out a stone pulsing with energy. The confident smile on his lips is what gathered her attention.
Beryl raised an eyebrow but took the offered gem. Her yellow cat-like eyes widened as her fingers touched the surface. The energy contained within was mesmerizing. "Is this from that little toy of yours?" she skimmed her thumb over the surface before closing her fist tight and absorbing the energy.
"This is from Usagi, correct. I did want you to meet her, but unfortunately, I seem to have taken a bit too much from her."
"Is she dead?" Beryl hissed. That would be a pity considering the quality of this energy.
"Oh no, and I won't be draining her completely for the ritual either." He smiled as he took a glass of the wine himself. "I suppose you're rubbing off on me, dear sister. This one I'll be keeping around for quite awhile."
"I can see why" Beryl mused. "This energy is superb. You managed to acquire all of this and she didn't die? How interesting… If we could find humans of this quality, our Master would be recovered in no time."
"Humans other than her," Treize interrupted. "She is mine, sister. Be sure you remember that."
"I wouldn't want your playthings, Treize," Beryl chided. "I have my own means of entertainment." Her eyes searched the crowd and a confident smirk blossomed on her lips. "My choice is going to really outshine yours tonight."
"About that," Treize proceeded with caution, not wanting to upset his sister. "What if we waited a few days?"
"Why would we wait?" Beryl's scowl was full force. "We have more energy coming in day by day. Our last venture was incredibly successful. I have no doubt our current one will be as well. With all of this energy rolling in we'll be able to revive our master soon."
"Very well," Treize couldn't hold back a sigh.
Beryl couldn't help but smirk. "Besides, are you telling me that you wouldn't want your little pet ready to fill out your every order? I know I'm tired of mine having as much free will as he does." she gave said pet a pointed glare. Life would be so much nicer when he was completely loyal. "Duo, come here."
Duo's head shot up from beside the buffet table, and he made his way over to the siblings. "Beryl," he greeted with a bowed head.
"Are you prepared for your test?"
Duo smirked. "Of course."
"Good. I do expect you to do a superior job than Treize's assistant will give us."
"Of course," Duo nodded with so much enthusiasm his braid flopped behind him. "Do you think that Treize's assistant will be on her feet again by then?"
Beryl resisted the urge to laugh. She found it amusing how much those around her thought they could get away with. Her pet was far too fond of Treize's for her taste. If it was up to her the mysterious girl would be an eternal battery for their master. "I'm sure she must be fine for my brother to be at this party," she nodded her head towards the distracted Treize.
Duo followed Treize's line of sight and couldn't help the smile that grew on his lips. "I guess you're right."
Beryl's humor died in an instant and with a deepening glare, she turned her attention to what the men were watching. She wasn't impressed to see the blonde staggering her way through the party. It was obvious that Zoisite had helped dress the waif, with her brother's account no doubt.
"Hey Usagi," Duo called with a wave.
Across the room, two heads shot up as one and turned towards the noise. One set of eyes narrowed in suspicion while the other just stared at the girl for a long emotionless moment. Heero started to go towards the girl when a hand grabbed his arm. He scowled at Quatre and tried to shrug away.
"I get that's your friend, Heero, but you're going to blow our cover here. Please be patient, I'm not sure what's wrong with her but we'll find out, we'll get her out of here, just not now."
"She's my mission, Quatre. I have to help her."
"Even so, you know that we have to be patient. Everyone is watching her right now, how would you even try to get her out of all of this?"
Heero sighed lightly but nodded. "You're right. Waiting would be best, but I won't wait too long. They've already started whatever he does to them before he throws them away."
"I promise we'll get her out of here soon," Quatre assured. "Let's get closer and see what we can hear. Maybe we'll find something we can use."
Usagi meanwhile was doing her best to stay upright. Her door had been left open and when she had woken up weak and alone, she had decided to get dressed and attend to her job. Well, her job and she needed to check out the food. She had been dreaming about the food since her talk with Zoisite.
"You must be Usagi," a warm hand settled on her back and another took her free hand helping her stand to her full height. "My name is Kunzite, Zoisite has told me much about you."
"Zoisite?" Usagi smiled. "It's nice to meet you. Zoisite has been a really great friend. He helped me pick out this outfit."
"I told you it would look good," Zoisite smiled at her faint blush. "I believe Queen Beryl will want to meet you, Angel. Are you really up for it? You look like you've had better days."
"I'll be fine," Usagi had freed her hand from Kunzite's and made a shooing motion at her friend. "I just must have slept so long. I feel really tired and drained."
As if they were all connected, Beryl, Treize, and the present generals all jerked as if electricity had been fed through their bodies before they collapsed to the ground "Are you okay?" Usagi, despite still being weakened, knelt beside the fallen Zoisite and shook his shoulder. "Zoisite?"
Zoisite groaned in response. "I'm fine, Angel." He was tempted to take some of her own energy to recover but was not stupid enough to try it with Treize so close. "Something just went wrong elsewhere. I think the party is going to have to be canceled."
Usagi felt an odd sensation of pinpricks at the back of her neck and turned around towards where she felt it come from. Her eyes widened as she spotted a pair of deep blue eyes locked on her. A shiver ran through her body at the silent searching look. She didn't know this guy, but something about him unnerved her.
"Heero, we need to go." Quatre had noticed the girl's unease and drug his companion away back through the party. "Something is going on, you saw the higher ups fall right? We need to get out of here and find out what's going on. Something is wrong. Your friend doesn't look happy to see you."
"She doesn't know me yet." Heero went along with Quatre as he was pulled away from his mission. Seeing the question in her eyes had put a damper to his plans. "Quatre, we have to find a way to save her."
"We will, Heero." Quatre glanced away. "If she doesn't know you…" he trailed off and took a deep breath. "Heero, I have to ask this, though I didn't think you'd ever do it. Are you stalking that girl?"
Heero fought the urge to laugh. He had never expected the gentle Arabian to make such a claim. But isn't that what you're doing? He ignored the inner voice, he wasn't the one that had been stalking her, if anyone that would have been the angel. He was going to be the one that saved her, and that was it. "I'm not stalking her."
Quatre breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm really happy to hear that, Heero. Look, they're already taking her back upstairs, that entire group is vanishing up there. It looks like the party is over, let's get out of here."
Heero nodded and with a final glance at the fleeing blonde's back, he followed Quatre out of the party and back to their quarters.
"What's going on?" Usagi didn't know what to make of the situation. At first, she had been tending to the fallen Zoisite, and then Treize had come and grabbed her arm, practically dragging her out of the party. "Where are we going?"
"Back to your room, there was an incident with one of our outreach programs. For your safety, it's best you wait in your room until I come get you for the ceremony."
"Slow down," Usagi demanded as she gave a weak tug to get elbow free from his grasp. "Please, I can't keep up."
Treize sighed and reacting quickly, scooped her up and continued his space consuming strides. "We don't have time. You need to get changed and get ready. I fear the time for the ceremony has been moved up since our celebration party has been canceled. All I need for you to do is be completely honest when you're asked anything. Leave your mind open, let us in and know everything about you. When it's over, it will almost be as if we are one."
Author Notes: So I stopped being able to do weekly updates because I'm doing camp NaNoWriMo again and working on Villain Tales... as well as finishing up the 2nd draft on my original. Now that does *not* mean I'm going to stop updating here. I'm going to stick to my minimum though I'll try to do more, it just depends. Love you all 3 and thanks for being my readers
