Previously:"I don't think the library would have solid directions to get to the colony. Ready to go exploring James?"
"Always up for an adventure."
Turning back around, the brothers walked towards the Forbidden Forest.
When the brothers reached a clearing, Albus cast a navigational spell. The large seemingly holographic compass told them that they were headed northeast.
"You really want to go northeast Al?" James asked as he examined the compass.
"It can't hurt," Albus shrugged.
They left the clearing and walked deeper into the forest. By this time, James had discovered a well worn down trail and the brothers had chosen to follow it. The foliage began to thicken the farther they went, lessening the amount of sunlight that reached the bottom of the forest. With two Lumos lighted wands, the duo continued to follow the trail until it abruptly stopped. James crashed into his younger brother who was waving his wand around trying to find the path.
"You lost the path!" James hissed, carefully scrutinizing their surroundings.
"I didn't lose it, it disappeared," Albus whispered.
Suddenly, a roar was heard from behind them. The brother jumped out of their skin and covered their eyes when hit with a bright light.
James recovered first and marveled at the sight he was greeted with.
"Al. Al. AL!" James shook his brother's shoulders. "That's the Flying Ford Anglina Dad and Uncle Ron talks about!"
Albus, on the other hand, looked slightly less thrilled about the car. "Dad said it was wild though. We can't really get in it."
"Of course we can!" James grabbed Albus' collar and pulled him into the car.
James took the wheel and the car roared through the underbrush of the forest. After about five minutes of high speed traveling, the car lurched to a stop.
"Ow," James said as he rubbed the part of his torso that hit the wheel.
"Guess we're here," Albus announced as he saw small spiders crawling towards a cave.
James quickly exited the car leaving Albus in the wild machine. Albus shuddered as spiders crawled over his shoes as he stepped out of the car.
"James!" Albus whisper yelled.
James turned around and gestured for Albus to catch up. Breathing in the frigid air, Albus hurried to catch up to his older brother. They followed the trail of spiders up to the mouth of the cave. From the entrance, the duo could hear scuffling and loud clicking. As soon as James put a single toe in the cave, the ground began to shake under their feet. Surprised, James tumbled back into his brother and they both hit a tree. Recovering from the fall, they found themselves face to face with a honest to goodness Acromantula.
James had a sneaking suspicion Albus was the one that screamed, but he wouldn't rule himself out too quickly. The speed of the large spider was astounding. That paired with the size and clickers amounts to a pretty scary creature. The brothers shrunk away from the frightening monster. Behind the Acromantula, another group of the large spiders showed up. Albus whimpered at the sight, ready to give up the game and hopefully live through Seventh Year.
The spider reared up and madly made clicking sounds. The spiders behind it started surging towards the two Potters.
This time, both of them started screaming. They whipped their wands out and started incanting whatever spells popped into their heads. The spells that would render a human unconscious were not affecting the onslaught of Acromantulas. Albus had the idea of scrambling to his feet and trying to outrun the spiders while James shot spells from behind him. Needless to say, within a few paces, they were surrounded. The brothers furiously shot more spells; the only useful spell they chanted ended up giving them a weak barrier.
The onslaught began to waver and slow down at the sight of the shimmery barrier.
"We could use- Stupefy!- the car- Confringo!- right now," Albus said in between spells.
Breathing heavily, the duo screamed and shot even more spells at the remaining spiders. Thunderous steps could be heard from behind the two, so Albus went behind James and pointed his wand towards the sound.
Something brown flashed between some bushes and Albus raised his wand.
"Petrificus Tot-"
"Yeh be'er not finish tha' spell," Hagrid said revealing himself.
"Hagrid," Albus sighed in relief.
"I knew yeh two were up ta no good."
"Yeah yeah. Help?" Albus pleaded.
Hagrid stood next to James behind the barrier and whistled.
A roar surrounded the battlefield. The spiders inched closer to the barrier, more afraid of the roar than the glittering dome.
The Anglina busted out from behind the thick foliage, startling both James and Albus once again.
"You've tamed it?" James asked as Albus took over the spell casting.
"'S gettin' there," Hagrid answered.
"Get in the car an' I'll talk ter 'em."
"That's suicide Hagrid!" James argued.
"Only if yer wif me."
Without being told twice, Albus stopped his casting and jumped into the car. James, however, kept trying to hold up the barrier and argue with Hagrid.
"Get over here pea brain!" Albus yelled from the car.
James grimaced as Hagrid gave him a verbal beating and ran the length of the barrier and entered the car. The car raced away from the battle and towards the castle.
"Never again will I go into the Forbidden Forest," Albus swore.
"That was the most terrifying and most exciting event of my entire life!" James whooped.
As soon as they could make out the grounds, the car tipped on it's side forcing James and Albus out. As soon as they fell out of the car, it sped back into it's home.
"I guess you're out then little brother," James said smirking.
"Yeah, but I'd rather live," Albus replied.
Their rings burned up notifying the competitors of Albus' withdrawal. Following the official resignation, they began walking up to the castle doors. Lucy intercepted them right before they reached the Grand Staircase.
"A summon for you James," Lucy said daintily while sneaking a wink at Albus.
James opened the Instant Combustible Paper Airplane gently. As soon as his eyes fell on the last word on the sheet, the paper burned brightly, then fell on the ground in ashes.
"What's wrong?" Albums asked.
"I don't know. Minnie just told me to come to her office."
"You better hurry then," Lucy suggested.
James began ambling up the stairs.
"What's going on?" Albus asked his cousin.
"Something James had coming for him," Lucy answered with a glint in her eyes that personally struck a little fear in Albus.
"Explanation please?"
"Okay. Here it goes..."
James slowly made his way up to the Headmistress' office. The stone guards grumbled at the sight of the familiar face.
"Here again? I think you hold a record," one guard said.
"The difference is, this time, I don't even know what I did," James replied calmly.
"Don't know my arse," the other guard caviled.
"Just let me through," James said, his patience wearing thin.
The guards moved aside opening the staircase that wound its way up to McGonagall's office. Rolling his eyes at the guards, he stepped onto the staircase. When he was nearing the top of the staircase, he could make out two familiar voices.
"Hey Dad!" James called out as he entered McGonagall's office.
His father looked at him sternly; McGonagall seemed to share his sentiments. Regardless of the tension, James attempted to give his father a hug. Immediately, the eldest Potter trend frigid and James let go.
Harry Potter robotically held up his badge and said, "By order of the wizarding law, you, James Potter, are under arrest on the grounds of possession of Class C Non Tradable Materials."
James gaped at the sight before him.
"Mr. Potter," McGonagall peered over her spectacles with undisguised disappointment, "A search of your dormitory revealed Venomous Tentacula seeds in your trunk by the foot of your bed. Do you deny these are yours?"
James nodded.
"You can change your story Mr. Potter," McGonagall reminded.
"I'm innocent. I was framed," James argued.
"Any leads as to who?" Harry asked.
"Ross MacMillan."
"We have a witness claiming you held them out in front of him," Harry said.
"He's lying!" James exclaimed.
"He?" McGonagall questioned.
"He...r?"
"Your case will go up to the Wizengamot immediately. I am to escort you to the trial by Side-Along Apparition," Harry said coldly.
James clenched his jaw and refused to respond. Instead, he discreetly slipped of his ring and sent a message to everyone. He dropped it and grabbed a hold of his father's arm.
13 people received the message. 9 scratched their heads. 4 hollered in delight. 1 was crowned the victor of the game.
