Chapter 10

Lorelai and Luke were at the doctor's. They were called in and the nurse did an ultrasound.

"Everything looks healthy." The nurse smiled at the both of them. "Would you like to know the sex?" She asked.

Lorelai looked at Luke. "Shall we?"

Luke nodded. "Yeh ok."

"Congratulations. You're having a girl." The nurse smiled.

Lorelai's eyes welled up. "It really is another Rory..." She said and smiled up at Luke.

Luke smiled. "We're having a daughter."

They arrived home. "Rory?" Lorelai called.

"Mom! Is everything ok?" Rory asked.

"Everything's perfect and guess what?" She grinned.

"What?"

"You're going to have a baby sister." Lorelai smiled.

"Oh. That's...um...great!" Rory said hesistantly. She couldn't help but feel a slight pang of jealousy. Don't get her wrong, she was really happy for them but she was going to have to share them and Luke would have his own biological daughter. She smiled at them. "Congratulations!" She said quietly and hugged them. "I've got some homework to do. I'll meet you later in the diner." She said.

"That was...weird..." Lorelai said.

"Yeh..." Luke said, thinking.

Lorelai was sat in the diner driving Luke mad. "Please please please please please!" She begged.

"No!" He answered.

"Why not?" Lorelai whined. "I can't let Kirk win again at that damn dance marathon."

"You're pregnant." He simply said.

"Pleaaaaaaaase!" She begged.

"No!"

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!"

Rory walked in at this moment. "She still begging you to be her dance partner?" Rory said.

"Yes and she's driving me crazy! I might have to ask you to remove her in a bit." Luke said.

Rory laughed.

"Fine!" Lorelai pouted. "But if I can't do it then, you have to do it on my behalf!" She turned to Rory.

"No way!" Rory said.

"Please! You know how much your mommy loves you and supports you in anything you do?" Lorelai grinned.

Rory groaned. She knew she was going to lose. "Fine! But who's my partner going to be? I don't have a boyfriend."

"Luke can do it!" Lorelai grinned.

"No way! I don't dance." Luke said.

Rory went quiet. Sure she had danced with Luke before at the wedding but not for a full 24 hours. She didn't know if it would be weird or not. "I didn't mean Luke..." She said looking at the floor.

"Oh come on! It will be great! My two favourite people in the world dancing and winning me my trophy. I can just see Kirk's face now." Lorelai said.

Luke groaned and looked over at Rory. "Fine but only if Rory's ok with it?" He said.

Rory smiled. "If I have to do it, you should have to do it." She smirked.

Luke sighed. "Fine, I'll do it!"

Lorelai beamed, knowing she'd won.

The next day, they were all up at 5:30 walking to the dance hall. "Urghhh...I need coffee!" Lorelai moaned.

"We're the ones dancing and you need coffee?" Luke said amused.

"Please! One cup won't hurt..." Lorelai said.

They got to Babette who was signing everyone in. "Hey dolls! You're not dancing are you Lorelai?" She asked.

"No. Rory and Luke are."

"Oh ok."

They went in and got their physicals done and sat down waiting for it to get started. Rory was starting to get a bit nervous. She loved Luke but she didn't know if it would be a bit uncomfortable.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Taylor announced through a megaphone. "You have three minutes before you start! Please make sure you're ready!"

Luke handed a thermos over to Rory. "Here have some coffee before we start." He said.

"Thanks Luke!"

"Hey how come she's allowed coffee?" Lorelai moaned.

"Because she's not the one pregnant and she is the one who has to dance for 24 hours!" Luke said.

Soon it was time to start and Luke and Rory took their place on the dance floor. The music started and it was a fast one. A few minutes in and Rory relaxed into it, actually enjoying herself. Lorelai watching them twirling and laughing, smiling. She was happy.

"Excuse me, but you lied." Rory teased. "You can dance."

Luke chuckled. "Yeh ok, maybe my mum taught me a bit when I was younger but I haven't danced for ages."

Rory smiled. She looked over to her mom. "Mom looks happy." She smiled.

Luke looked over too. "Yeh she does." He smiled.

Suddenly a slow song came on so they hesitantly slowed down the tempo. Rory put her arms round Luke's neck. "Show me this famous waltzing you do then." She smirked, breaking the silence.

Luke chuckled and they waltzed around a bit. "Rory?"

"Yeh?"

"You know us having a daughter doesn't change anything, right?" He said softly.

Rory didn't say anything.

"I saw how you reacted when your mom told you. Your sister's not going to replace you." Luke said.

Rory sighed. "I know. I was just being stupid. I just thought that she would biologically be yours and I think I just got a bit jealous. Sorry..." She said quietly.

"Nothing will change. Biologically or not, I see you as my daughter and I won't just stop loving you when your sister comes along." He said softly.

"I know. I was being stupid." Rory said.

They danced a bit more.

"Luke?"

"Yeh?"

"How would you feel if I said I wanted to changed my name?" Rory asked.

"What, change Rory?" Luke asked confused.

"No, my surname." Rory said.

"To what?" Luke asked.

"Well I was thinking and Rory Danes has a nice ring to it." She said shyly not looking straight at him.

Luke was touched. "Rory...I don't want to force you to do anything big. This is a big thing. Have you talked to your mum about it?"

"Yeh and she said it's my choice." Rory said.

"Well I agree with her. I would be very honoured and touched if you chose to change it but I know what the Gilmore name means to you too." Luke said.

Rory nodded. Suddenly a klaxon went off.

"It's a break already? That's fast!" Rory said.

"I guess we didn't realise how long we'd actually dance for!" Luke chuckled.

They walked over to Lorelai. "Hey! How are my dancers doing?" She grinned.

"Really good mom." Rory smiling, glancing at Luke.

"Yeh I'm actually enjoying it." Luke said, noticing Lorelai's 'I told you so' face. "But if you repeat that to anyone, I'll ban you from my diner!" He smirked.

They all laughed.

Soon it was down to the last hour and Rory was nearly falling asleep. She had her arms round Luke's neck and was leaning her head on his shoulder. Luke was feeling tired too but knew he had to keep Rory up.

Suddenly, during the last few minutes, Kirk's partner feel asleep and they were disqualified. "The winners are Luke and Rory!" Taylor announced through the megaphone and the klaxon sounded.

"Yessssss! In your face Kirk!" Lorelai shouted and ran over to them. "You did it! I knew you would!"

"Yeh thanks mom, but I'm going to go lie down and sleep." Rory mumbled going towards the benches.

Luke chuckled and kissed Lorelai. "Happy now?" He said.

"Yep! And next year you can do it with me!" She beamed.

"No way! This was a one time thing!" Luke said. He then chuckled as Lorelai took the trophy and did her victory lap. He smiled and knew he couldn't love anyone anymore.

Hope you enjoyed that! Let me know what you think! :)
