Prussia practically vibrated in her seat as they drove away from the stuffy office building towards a peaceful outing together. It was going to be awesome. They could finally sit and talk and drink awesome drinks! Maybe afterwards she could find time to beat his ass down to let him know that he was dumb and she disapproved greatly of his choices.
"Any particular taste in music?" asked Canada as he reached for the radio dial.
"Nah, whatever's good." Prussia replied. She was too distracted by her own excitement to really care what was playing anyways.
Some light rock played in the background as the car made it way unhurriedly towards its destination. They eventually pulled off the main road and drove a block down before pulling into a space in front of a quaint little café. Prussia thought it was absolutely adorable but tried to at least mostly keep her composure.
Upon walking in the outside proved to be in no way deceptive, the inside was homey and warm decorated in rich earth tones with what was probably local art hanging on the walls. A barista waved from the counter and Canada walked smoothly over to place an order. He got some odd sounding concoction that somehow involved maple. Prussia made a face at his stereotypical Canadian behaviour. Even if he was the embodiment of his nation not everything was meant to have maple in it and that was just a fact. Prussia ordered herself an oolong tea and joined Canada at a table seating two by the window.
They sipped at their respective drinks quietly for a moment, mulling over the flavour.
"So," began Prussia, upon receiving his attention she continued, "I disapprove of your life choices."
Canada raised his eyebrows in a look of intrigue. "Oh? Do you?"
"Oh stop that, I'm being serious here," Prussia said.
"Alright, but I don't really think it's up to you to make my decisions," replied Canada coolly.
That stung a little bit but Prussia continued on, "Really, I think you value yourself entirely too little, you don't really care about your friends, and you're being selfish despite apparently not thinking much of yourself."
Canada's posture changed, he was closing himself off. "I value myself enough and what kind of friends only notice you after you're gone. How is not wanting to go back to always hoping in vain that this time they'll remember me selfish!" he said in a harsh whisper.
Prussia kept her voice down as well not really willing to disturb the couple other patrons or risk getting asked to leave over this argument.
"It's selfish because you're only thinking about how you felt. Not how you made those closest to you feel!" Prussia could feel her cheeks heating up as betrayal began to replace the happiness she had mostly been feeling up to this point.
Canada looked away, not meeting Prussia's eyes for a minute. When he looked back at her his eyes had changed to a much sadder look.
"Listen, I know now that not telling anyone I came back was wrong but what am I supposed to do about it now! Just waltz up to England and say 'Hey, yeah, got my memories back a few decades ago and just wanted to take some personal years.' Yeah right! If he didn't mistake me for Alfred he'd just be pissed. And Alfred! He'd just be pissed."
Prussia took a drink of her tea and regarded Canada's troubled look over the top of her cup. She let out a tremendous sigh once she'd finished drinking.
"Oh man, you look just pitiful you know that? Ugh, you think too much. Just call Alfred talk to him, try to tell him what happened-"
Canada cut in, "But he won't-"
"I know. He might not, that's why I said try. I mean really, what do you have to lose? Your isolation? You can definitely live without that. Worst case scenario he comes to see you to beat your ass in which case I'll back you up okay?"
Canada smiled faintly, "Thanks, but I'm not sure how offended I should be that you think you could take Alfred and I couldn't."
Prussia scoffed, "Not very offended I'd say! I have years of military training in strategy that you don't. Even if he could beat me in a fight of brute strength I'm more resourceful."
Canada's smiled widened at Prussia's confidence.
"Yes, well. I suppose," he sighed once deeply before finishing, "I will call Alfred and try to explain. You have to be there though so that if he does try to start a fight I have your years of military training on my side."
Prussia smiled, she was remembering why she liked Canada, "Alright, I can hold your hand while you phone him too if you want."
"Well, maybe," he looked thoughtful for a second before adding, "And maybe you could hold my hand some other times too."
Prussia was quiet for a second trying to get her mind to catch up to itself. While she paused Canada reached his hand across the table. With only a brief hesitation she extended her own arm to clasp his hand. It sent a warm feeling through Prussia right to her core, an achingly sweet sensation. Prussia loved it. They sat for a while holding hands and finishing off their tea. Once they finished they rejoined the world outside the tea shop connected by their hands until they had to part to get back into the car.
*~* A/N: Whoooo! Look who's not dead! Me! And Canada! Ahahahahaha… it's not funny but I'm going to stop making promises I can't keep about timely updates. I'm terrible. *~*
