CHAPTER 10

I do not own Doctor Who and I am making no profit off of this.

Thank you for all of your favorites, follows, and reviews!

MISSY WHO?

"Blimey! Do we look like we're made out of plastic to you? What kind of a naff 'Doctor' are they putting out these days anyway?" Rose said in an annoyed tone.

"Rose," Rusty said in a warning tone.

Rose immediately but begrudgingly stopped talking then as she realized that Rusty didn't want Doctor Missy to know anything about the previous reality or who she was in it. She might not help them to return it to normal at all if she did.

Then again from the way that this 'Doctor' was acting she wasn't so sure that she was going to help them anyway. Missy hadn't really changed that much at all from what she could see of her.

Missy was now looking at Rose and Rusty more suspiciously than ever thanks to Rose's comments as she said, "How do you know about Autons being made out of plastic or who I am? Are you from those lunatics at UNIT? Why can't you people just leave me alone?"

Rose and Rusty now exchanged a surprised look while Rose decided to go along with this story as she said, "That's right. I'm Commander Tyler, a special operative working on a mission for the main headquarters in Geneva, and this is my assistant, Sergeant Rusty . . . Blue."

Rusty suddenly started coughing loudly from what might almost be called embarrassment in a human next to her as Rose said with a huge grin, "You should really get that looked at, Russ. Sounds like you have something stuck in your throat. Maybe it's a great big blobby thing."

"Very funny," Rusty said in irritation.

"Yes, especially since you are the blobby thing, aren't you? Or did you actually think that you could remain hidden from me, Dalek? I built a Dalek detector in my laser screwdriver the day after I first came across your kind. So does UNIT have Daleks on the payroll these days, 'Commander', or do you want to tell me another one?" Missy said with a frown.

"As a matter of fact we do. The enemy of our enemy is our friend after all," Rose said as she continued to bluff her way through this.

Rusty immediately decided to let Rose do the talking as much as possible since it was obvious that Missy would never trust him now that she knew who he was. She would never trust any Dalek after what his people had done to her.

"The Daleks are no one's friends no matter what lies that they've told you. You can believe me on that. Yes, I've made it no secret that I don't want to work with UNIT and that I consider you all a bunch of bumbling idiots who hinder more than you help against alien invasions, but that doesn't make me your enemy. It just means that I'd like to do my job correctly and efficiently without a bunch of stupid blundering primitives getting in my way," Missy said in an angry voice.

"Well, if you feel that way about humanity, then why are you always trying to save us then?" Rose asked curiously.

"Because someone has to do it and there's no one left but me anymore. How ironic that I would be the one left to carry on in their name. The one that they always rejected," Missy said in a faraway voice.

She laughed a little then even as she finally lowered her screwdriver.

"Starting to finally trust us now, are you?" Rose said even as she studied Missy closely.

She had been wrong earlier. This version of Missy was different somehow from the one that she knew before and yet there was still an undeniable undercurrent of menace to her despite that.

"Let's just say that I'm deciding to give you the benefit of the doubt for the moment and leave it at that," Missy said with a small smile.

"What was that that you were saying earlier about the Time Lords rejecting you?" Rose asked as she probed further into the history of this new reality.

Maybe if she learned enough about this new world she could find out where it had all gone wrong and fix it in some way.

"Why don't you ask your Dalek friend over there? I'm sure that they know all about me. I'm the coward after all. The one that fled in terror before the Dalek Emperor after he finally broke me with his sadistic torture devices and made me give up vital strategic information that gave the Daleks the advantage in the war. It was that advantage that ultimately led to Rassilon coming up with the Final Sanction as a way to get rid of them. It was all downhill from there," Missy said in a voice filled with shame as she suddenly quit talking.

Rose couldn't help but look at her sympathetically now despite everything that she had done as she said, "Yeah, I've met the Emperor. You don't have to tell me how frightening that he was."

"When could you have met the Emperor? He's dead. He's been dead since even before the day that I . . . that I ended it all," Missy said in a haunted voice.

Rusty actually groaned this time and Rose winced as she realized that she had made yet another mistake. Losing the Doctor and constantly worrying about finding a way to get her back again had completely frazzled her brain so that she wasn't thinking straight at all anymore.

"Well, obviously I met him before the war ended didn't I? It's not like the Daleks haven't come to invade Earth about a billion times in the past is it?" Rose quickly said.

"You don't have to tell me about how often that they've been here. I'm the one who's always saved you from them. From them and so many others time and time again. Earth gets invaded so much that I've often wondered if there's some kind of hidden spaceship or something that I don't know about hidden in the center of the planet. They're certainly not coming here for the pleasure of your company. Trust me. You're not that interesting," Missy said with a smirk.

"And yet you keep saving us anyway, don't you?" Rose said with a chuckle that she instantly felt guilty for right away.

She was actually starting to like this version of Missy. She was a lot like the Doctor in some ways.

"I have to because the Time Lords are all gone now. If I don't prevent the corruption of your history and that of the rest of the universe then this entire timeline will descend into complete chaos and be destroyed by any number of paradoxes. I'm ensuring my own survival just as much as I'm ensuring yours," Missy said in a detached voice with no emotion whatsoever in it.

Rose suddenly began to develop a feeling of dread now as she said in a voice filled with growing anger, "And that's why you're saving us? Not because you care about humanity but because if a paradox happens here that it might someday wind up threatening you?"

"Why else would I keep coming here to this insignificant planet? Did you actually think that I cared? Was that it?" Missy said as she started to laugh.

Rose was now filled with raw hatred as she realized that Missy wasn't like the Doctor at all. Not where it mattered the most. She didn't have her kind and caring hearts at all. Missy didn't care about anyone but herself.

"Did you actually think that I valued your pathetic species? Ha! The only reason that I'm saving anyone at all is because the Time Lords aren't around to prevent the paradoxes anymore. If only they had wanted to take me with them when they were going to ascend to a higher plane, then I wouldn't have had to kill them all in order to save myself from their impending destruction of the universe. Then I wouldn't have to do any of this now. Even at the end, they rejected me though just as they always had. I guess I can't really blame them. It was my weakness that led to that desperate plan of theirs after all. No matter how you look at it I killed them. All of them. My own people," Missy said with a sigh.

"So you actually did value them then. Not enough to sacrifice yourself for them though of course," Rose said with undisguised disgust in her voice.

"And this is exactly why I don't work with you lot. You're always judging me. Constantly," Missy said in irritation.

This was when Rusty finally spoke up at last now as he said, "That is why we are here, Doctor. UNIT has finally come up with a way to protect the universe from any future paradoxes so that you won't ever have to come here again. It will be a win-win situation for both you and the Earth."

Now was finally the time to carry out his idea at last. He only hoped that Missy went along with it.

So far at least Missy actually looked intrigued as she said, "Really? And why should I trust you, Dalek? How do I know that you're not just trying to lead me into a trap?"

"And get rid of the only person who can keep the universe from falling apart? That doesn't make any sense at all unless you have a back-up plan in place for it, yeah?" Rose said.

"I suppose that could be true. It does make a certain sort of sense after all. Well, let's just say that I actually do believe you for a moment. What is this brilliant plan of yours?" Missy asked with a smug grin.

"We use your TARDIS to go back in time and prevent the Time Lords from ever being destroyed in the first place," Rusty said.

"No, that can't be done. I sealed the entire war in a Time Lock to prevent Rassilon from using the Final Sanction," Missy said as she shook her head vehemently.

"You didn't seal all of Gallifrey's history though, did you?" Rusty asked.

"No, but what difference does it make? It's not like changing anything will make any difference. I've already thought about every possible change that I could have made to the past in order to avoid what happened. Nothing would have prevented the end. Nothing that I thought of at all," Missy said in despair.

"Perhaps not but what if you made another type of change to Gallifrey's history instead? One that you never even thought of since it involves someone who doesn't exist," Rusty asked.

"What do you mean?" Missy asked in surprise.

Rose was wondering that as well. Was this Rusty's way of somehow bringing the Doctor back again? If so, how would that work out exactly?

She was about to find out in a moment as Rusty asked Missy, "Create another Time Lord, one who never existed before, who will end the war for you in such a way that it won't result in you having to be all alone to safeguard the timeline."

Missy started to smile as she said, "Interesting. So I would create a new Time Lord and they would completely change everything that happened from that point forward just by being there. It just might work if I manipulated two people into getting married who weren't before or stole the genetic material from them so that I could create this person myself. I would have to be sure that I created someone with just the right personality and intelligence and place them at exactly the right point in Gallifrey's history however in order to pull it off. How could I possibly know what they would be like ahead of time? It's a nice try, Dalek, but it would be impossible to know just the right combination of parents needed in order to produce the perfect warrior to end the Time War."

"No, it's not impossible at all. Not for Dalek science. I've already worked it all out for you ahead of time. I know exactly which two Time Lords will produce the right child to undo all of this for you. All that you have to do is ensure that they will have a child together at the right time in the planet's past," Rusty said.

Missy immediately pulled out her laser screwdriver again and pointed it at Rusty as she said, "There's no way that you could know that no matter how advanced your so-called science is, Dalek. Not even the Time Lords could be that precise. The only way that you could know that with such certainty is if you somehow remembered this person from a previous timeline. A timeline that was erased."

Rose and Rusty both became silent now as Missy started to smile in triumph and said, "Well, well. What a change. You're very quiet now all of a sudden, aren't you? How unusual for you two judging from what I've seen of you so far. I wasn't supposed to figure that out was I? So this other Time Lord ends the war in a different way, don't they? That's why you need them back again. What happened to them in that other world exactly? Did I erase them from time somehow? That's it isn't it? I erased them and it came back to bite me in the end didn't it? That's just perfect, isn't it? The joke's on me in the end. Isn't that just the story of my entire life?"

She started to laugh now as Rose said in a cold voice, "I don't think that it's very funny, mate. You brought this all on yourself so if you don't like it then you'd better help us to bloody well fix it."

"Who am I in this proper world then? If it's anything like this one, then I bet that I'm still the odd one out aren't I? This other Time Lord of yours is my enemy, aren't they? Yes, they must be. Why else would I erase them?" Missy reasoned.

"You didn't start out as enemies. You started out as friends and you'd probably still be friends if you hadn't decided to go completely around the bend. No matter what way you look at it whatever happens to you is pretty much always your own fault, isn't it?" Rose said with a stern look.

Missy nodded as she said with a malevolent smile, "Yes, that has a certain ring of truth about it. I've always been my own worst enemy. I've always known that from an early age. I just can't help it though you see. I was always this way from the day that I was born. So why should I want to bring someone back who will be a constant thorn in my side? No, I think maybe I'd be better off just being the last of my kind after all."

"I don't believe that. We all choose exactly who we want to be. It isn't chosen for us," Rose protested.

"Unless you're a Dalek and then it was bred into your very genes by your creator that you would be a creature filled with hate from day one," Rusty said in a voice filled with resentment.

"But you're not though. You chose to be different and now you are. You're even in love with a human, Rusty. That certainly wasn't determined when you were born. Davros created the Daleks to hate everyone. Love wasn't even supposed to be in your vocabulary. You chose to change yourself though and so could Missy if she really wanted," Rose said.

"That's the trouble though. I don't want to. I already like who I am. Why change perfection after all? No, I think I'll pass on this amazing plan of yours. So I'm afraid that this means that I'm going to have to kill you now so that you can't find another way of bringing this other person back again. It's time to say something nice I'm afraid. You first, Dalek, since you're easily the most dangerous one among the two of you," Missy said as she started to use her laser screwdriver on Rusty.

That was when Rose recalled the words of her mother about the power of the Tyler slap and said a silent prayer as she suddenly slapped Missy in the face as hard as she could. Missy instantly screamed in pain and was taken completely by surprise for a brief moment because she hadn't expected that at all.

It was during that brief window of opportunity when Missy had her guard down that Rusty fired on her with a stun blast that instantly knocked her out cold. Rose smiled in triumph now as she searched Missy for the TARDIS key and quickly found it.

"Thought so. It was in her shoe. She's much more like the Doctor than she ever cared to admit," Rose said with a large grin as she held the key up.

Then both of them quickly raced for the TARDIS and dematerialized before Missy could recover.

"So where to now, Russ? You said that you had it all worked out. Do you know what happens to erase the Doctor from history?" Rose asked as she worked the controls.

Rusty had now completely dropped his disguise and spoke in a normal voice once more as he said, "I RESEARCHED THE DALEK FILES IN THIS TIMELINE ON THE TIME LORDS AND USED THEM TO PINPOINT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THE DOCTOR'S PARENTS WERE BOTH KILLED NOT LONG AFTER THEY WERE MARRIED. IT HAPPENED IN A FREAK ACCIDENT AS THEY WERE CELEBRATING THE TIME LORD EQUIVALENT OF THEIR HONEYMOON TOGETHER. THEY WERE BOTH KILLED WHEN THEIR TT CAPSULE SUDDENLY WENT OFF COURSE AND MATERIALIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF A STAR. THAT WAS HOW THE UNIVERSE WROTE THE DOCTOR OUT OF HISTORY ONCE SHE WAS ERASED AND YET IT ALSO FORCED THE MASTER TO TAKE HER PLACE WHETHER SHE WANTED TO OR NOT. IT SEEMS THAT THE DOCTOR'S ROLE IN THE UNIVERSE CAN'T BE GOTTEN RID OF QUITE AS EASILY AS SHE COULD."

"Or maybe the universe was just ensuring that Missy would come here so that I could bring the Doctor back again," Rose said with a smile.

"I SUPPOSE THAT YOU COULD CHOOSE TO LOOK AT IT THAT WAY IF YOU BELIEVED THAT THE UNIVERSE FAVORITED CERTAIN PEOPLE. THAT HAS NEVER BEEN MY EXPERIENCE HOWEVER," Rusty said.

"No, maybe the universe doesn't play favorites, Russ, but who's to say that it doesn't like to pay back its debts, eh? And it owes the Doctor a huge one. It's time to collect on that I think. Come on. It's time for someone else to save the Doctor for once," Rose said with a wide grin rapidly spreading all over her face.

"ISN'T THAT WHAT YOU ALWAYS DO THOUGH?" Rusty said as he gave her the exact coordinates that she had to go to in order to prevent the accident that had changed everything.

Rose laughed as she said, "Yes, but it's not like the Doctor would ever admit that. I'm glad that someone realizes it though."

"OF COURSE I DID. WHY ELSE WOULD I COME TO YOU FOR HELP, ROSE TYLER? YOU'VE ALWAYS HELPED TO KEEP HER SAFE," Rusty admitted.

"And I always will," Rose said to herself in a low voice as the TARDIS finally materialized.

That was when she quickly rushed outside while she gestured to Rusty to stay put. As she left the ship, she saw two people who she was sure were the Doctor's parents about to enter another TARDIS. They had only been prevented from going inside by her sudden and unexpected arrival.

"Oi! Don't use that one. It's got a defect. Pick another one," Rose warned.

"How do you know that? Who are you?" The Doctor's future mother asked in confusion.

Rose smiled as she said, "A friend. I'm just a friend who wants the rest of the day to go off without a hitch for both of you. I think you both deserve it, yeah?"

The Doctor's mother smiled back at her and seemed to instantly trust Rose now as she said, "Thank you. I don't even know who you are but thank you. If there's ever any way that I can repay you, just let me know."

Rose shook her head as she said, "You don't need to do a thing for me. I've already gotten my reward a long time ago. It's the only one that I'll ever need."

The Doctor's mother nodded even as his father said, "Well, she's a bit cryptic, isn't she? She reminds me so much of you. You love teasing people like that too."

"Maybe that's why I like her so much. Come on. Let's pick another ship," The Doctor's mother said as she led her husband away from a smiling Rose.

"The feeling's mutual then because I like you too," Rose said in a low voice as she felt good that she had gotten the other woman's approval.

Then a tingle went through Rose's entire body and she laughed in triumph as she could somehow feel that she had just set time back on its proper course once more. This feeling was made even more concrete when in the very next moment she suddenly found herself side by side with the Doctor as they and the others faced off against Missy once more.

Everything was exactly as it had been before with Missy pointing the Temporal Cannon at the Doctor and only moments away from pulling the trigger.

"Not this time," Rose said defiantly as she started to glow with power.

Before she could do anything however Rusty shot Missy several times with his gunstick, and she immediately crumpled to the ground after being thoroughly knocked out cold. Then Rusty quickly disintegrated the Temporal Cannon itself a moment later.

Rose sighed in relief as she realized that the danger was finally over with at last now.

"Well, I wasn't quite expecting that. More importantly neither was Missy. Good job, Dalek Boy," The Doctor said with a relieved look on her face.

That look quickly became one of surprise instead as Rose unexpectedly wrapped her arms around the Doctor and hugged her tightly in gratitude for her still being there. The Doctor had absolutely no idea what had suddenly brought this on of course, but she certainly wasn't complaining.

River however was a different story.

"Couldn't she at least have the decency to wait until after I'm gone to do that?" She said with a grimace.

Next: Now that she has the Doctor back again and the crisis with Missy has finally passed at last Rose has a serious talk with the Doctor about not only River but also about her life on Pete's World. What exactly happened to Rose after the Doctor left her there? It's finally time for the full story at last. Plus I'll show what happens to Missy, River, and the Cyber Brig next, and Rusty will finally tell Journey how he feels about her at last! I wonder how she'll react.
