Chapter 10: Eenie, meenie, minie, mo

Kate knew that something was different, "You're too calm."

Derek tried to shrug but realised that he didn't have the range of movement needed. He wanted to do it just to spite her but he was in too much pain, He asked in frustration, "What do you want from me Kate?"

She roared, "Your Alpha's name!"

He chuckled as the pain was so intense now that he could only find the entire situation ironically funny. He hoped that Stiles was careful because he would be so pissed with his mate if he got hurt as a result of trying to rescue him. "I don't know. He murdered Laura ... we're not exactly exchanging Christmas cards."

Kate seemed delighted by that news, "Ah so the Hale land has fallen."

Derek knew that she was looking for a reaction so he didn't give her one. He was holding onto his sanity only because he knew that Stiles was coming. He knew that if he looked away she would just attack him so he stared at her.

Kate pouted seeing the way Derek wasn't engaging in any conversation. It was no fun. Usually he was so full of angst and pain that it would be fun to exploit but not today. She wanted him to spill his the very least. "You are just no fun Der ..."

He said nothing and got smacked with a baton of what he was sure was Rowan wood. And yet still he said nothing. He had nothing else to say to her, he just wished that she got the deserved retribution for killing nearly his entire family. He endured the next hit with a grunt.

A clap from the side broke their little tête-à-tête not that Derek minded, but wait it was his Uncle. He should not be able to move ... it would mean that he was the Alpha. His wolf was torn - he had pack, a family member left alive but had he killed Laura?. He wasn't sure he could accept an Alpha that had killed his sister. What he did know was that he was getting front row seats to the show – too bad that he couldn't enjoy it. He could imagine Stiles offering popcorn to the event.

Peter was prowling forward, and Stiles was moving forward with what basically amounted to a notice-me-not charm surrounding him. He was still there - and even visible to people; He just made it so anyone who was looking at him would decide to look elsewhere without seeing him. It was a nifty trick and one that had served him well in High School since his grandfather had taught him.

"You are one wicked bitch." Peter ground out around his fangs.

Kate frowned, as she didn't consider herself evil. She was doing her father's work - killing monsters and if she got to have a bit of fun then where was the harm in that? She was doing good work protecting the rest of the public. She could do the dirty job's that they couldn't stomach, "Not true, I'm a monster killer."

Peter sneered at her as he still remembered that night vividly. In fact every time he closed his eyes, he could feel it, and see it. He could smell the burning wood, and hear the screams of his family. The worst part, and the part that was probably what had driven him over the edge, he remembered snapping the necks of the young children so they didn't feel the fire. "You're the most vicious monster I have ever known!"

Kate was seemingly weighing up her options. She had a captive, but she was facing off against a crazed Alpha wolf. There was no good ending here if she stayed. She made a conscious decision and dropped a Wolfsbane bomb using the smoke as a cover to disappear. It was better to wait and take him down another day when the odds were stacked in her favour than fight it out now and probably die.

Stiles hissed seeing the flash bang landed, he could guess that the smoke was Wolfsbane in an atomised form. He didn't think as he reached for his power- it was reflexive. He had one wish and that was for the cloud to disappear … so with a flash of his eyes it did. Peter looked at Stiles tending to Derek, and then looked at the disappearing Kate. He seemed pleased by what Stiles had done but his vision was narrowing to getting Kate. Seriously, Stiles thought that Peter had to be crazy because who utters, "I'll be back!" In a serious voice and expect to be taken seriously.

Stiles was glad that he was alone as in his worry over Derek he was using his powers freely. He wasn't quite ready to deal with the creeper peeper when he was worrying about Derek. He looked so battered that he was anxious at even touching his bruised cheek – scared that he would cause further damage, "Oh what has she done to you." The electricity box sparked out under the strain of Stiles' magic. He wanted to strike it out of existence so it burnt away.

Derek just sagged in his cuffs that were now starting to cut through skin. He knew that Stiles was here and he was starting to relax as he knew that Kate was left being chased by Uncle Peter. He wasn't quite willing to process the fact the Alpha was Peter because if he was then he'd most likely killed his sister. He was hurting too much to consider that idea.

Stiles was cataloguing all the injuries on Derek and made a note to kill her extra hard if she escaped Peter's wrath. It was just on the backburner as he needed his mate to be okay first. He used a knife to cut the bonds. When Derek was free - he collapsed onto his shoulder. Stiles was ready to start healing him and went through the steps in his mind. He was calling on the Earth to heed his request for help and hoped to Morrigan that the Earth would listen. She did listen and Stiles' oncoming panic attack receded as Derek's visible injuries did.

"Oh Der' what did she do to you?"

Derek tried valiantly to open his eyes to calm his mate, but was unable to, "Stiles."

Stiles was glad that he was able to talk but hearing Derek's voice made him want to break something. "Sh don't talk."

"Alp...?"

Stiles knew what he was asking, "Relax he's chasing the crazy-Kate down."

"We need to stop him." Derek panted out as a rack of spasms overtook him.

Stiles knew that for him to still be feeling the effects meant that the wicked bitch had overloaded his system. If he wasn't so worried about Derek he would have ripped the bitch in two. As it was he would let Peter have first crack. "It's okay. You're my primary concern. Fix you then we'll take on the world."
Stiles almost stumbled as Derek nuzzled into his neck aiming to reassure himself that they were all okay and couldn't be hurt.

"Oh, My God!" Stiles honestly could not believe his mate. He'd seen car crash victims in better state's than Derek and what did he want - to tease him. Seriously he needed to explain to Derek what priorities are, and how he should have them. "The only place you're going is my bed!" The saddest part of that statement is where as a teenager with a ridiculously hot lover he didn't mean for sexy times. The only thing he was debating was whether to request a healer or not ... he was trying to be a big boy and not call on his grandpa every few minutes. Still he wasn't stupid and he would not let his pride get himself or his mate killed. He got Derek back to his truck and he really hoped that there was no one hanging around outside his house tonight. He wasn't in the mood to put up with neighbours who were sticking their ore in today. Thankfully, he had the cover of darkness to drag his boyfriend back into his house.

And seeing who was waiting for him, Stiles figured that his night could not get any better- really.

Stiles weighed up his options and chose to deliberately leave Derek in the truck and got out to greet Chris Argent. He'd had enough of the crazy bigoted family for one night, and asked with minimal patience. "So what can I do for you?"

"Where is she?"

Stiles shrugged, "I honestly have no idea."

Chris looked at him. He was not acting like a newbie teen who'd been thrown into the deep end of the supernatural life. "You're lying."

Stiles met his glaze head on, "No I'm pissed off that your sister tried to torture and kill my ... boyfriend."

Chris was stunned, "Boyfriend? Does your Dad know?"

The only thing that stopped Stiles going off on a mega rant was the fact that Chris' tone there was more – angry, concerned parent than hunter. That being said he was still mad. "And what has that got to do with you?"

"Stiles Derek is older."

Stiles rolled his eyes, as really he hated the way that most people assumed that his ADHD meant he was an idiot. He really wasn't and whilst most of the time he appreciated the cover it afforded him ... other times it just annoyed him. "Yes I know and the Sheriff knows so bang goes your leverage."

Chris frowned hearing the teenager's confident reply – he was beginning to understand just how much he'd underestimated the boy. "Kate. Where is she?"

Stiles sighed, "Can't help you. The new Alpha wanted to have a word with her and she chose not to stick around and chat with me. It was probably for the best as I wanted to kill her for what she's put Derek through."

Chris was wary. Normally if a teen made such a statement – he would laugh it off as ego, and then smack them down. There was however a surety around the boy that made him suspect Stiles wasn't kidding and he could quite happily have murdered Kate tonight. For now, he would file his observations away. He wondered if he could get the teen to give him any information, "Just like that? And who is the Alpha?"

Stiles was getting more agitated the longer Chris stayed in his presence. In the end his patience was through, "Love to play twenty but my boo is like bleeding to death so I'm gonna take a pass."

Chris tested him, wanting to gain at least an idea about where the teen stood, "Or what?"

Stiles plucked his cell out of his hand and showed the fact that he was on the line to someone. "Or I imagine my father might come home in aprofessional capacity."

Chris had no choice but to leave, but he would be back. He just hoped he could find his sister before the Alpha did. He was under no illusion that if anyone but him caught up with her she would end badly. He didn't condone a thing she'd done; it was clear that neither she, nor his father was following the code. He hated that she'd killed against the code but she was still his sister, and one who'd been moulded by his father.

It was clear the chase was on.
