Thirty miles north of Smolensk city limits.
Smolensk Oblast province, Western Russia.
Corporal "Anchor" Jacks.
22nd SAS Regiment.
We looked around at one and other for maybe thirty seconds while we wondered where everyone had gone, there had to be atleast a company of men posted in this area about ten minutes ago and they all just disappeared.
"Sir, I don't like this," I told price as I scanned the area.
"Me neither Anchor but we don't have a choice we need to move out," He replied as we started to move up to the next set of farm houses but as we did we heard distant barking, as we continued to walk forward the barking got louder and came in closer.
"Shit! Dogs!" Gaz shouted as a huge Alsatian jumped on top of Price knocking him over and another leapt at me grabbing my right arm. I pulled out my pistol and fired right into the dog's head causing it to keel over and release me, I then fired at the dog on Price and killed it too. As he climbed back up we started to come under fire.
"Contact!" Soap shouted as he started firing at some blackened figures in the dark.
"I got them!" I shouted as I took aim with my ESR and started to hammer rounds out towards the figures.
"Soap, you got any targets?" Price asked him as he took cover behind a barrel.
"Nope, I've got nothing you're clear to move up to but not beyond the corner of the grey building," He told Price as he made his way up to the corner specified.
"Gaz I have a corner on the other side for you!" I told him as he moved past me up to the corner.
"I've got stairs here Anchor, get up top and hammer the bastards with that rifle," He told me as I moved up behind him as he started to suppress the remaining targets around the farm houses. I tapped on Gaz's shoulder to tell him I wanted to move up onto the stairs. "Sir, we need a high rate of fire to get Anchor up top!"
"Right everyone who can shoot get on it, on my mark!" Price shouted as he looked at me, "Anchor go when you're ready!"
I started to sprint up the stairs while the rest of the squad malleted the area with everything they had, when I got up to the top I started to pick off the targets. Slowly I could see the squad pushing up on the buildings while the remaining targets were killed off.
"I think it's clear," Gaz shouted at he peaked around the car he was taking cover behind.
"Well it's not, it's covered with corpses," I told them jokingly over the radio.
"Get down here and stop admiring your handy work!" Price told me as the others grouped around a gate.
I went down and joined them around the gate which led to a ditch that had a small amount of water running through it. I opened the gate and moved down into the water trying not to splash it around, "The chopper's back," Price told the group as we moved up on the ditch to where there was a bridge but as we did a bright light came around the corner, "Doesn't look like they know where we are, let's keep it that way."
I moved around the corner and spotted a series of flashlights in the field, "We got search parties here," I whispered over the radio.
"Got it Anchor, you take point let's try and get as far as possible before getting noisy," Price told me.
I started to make my way slowly across the field I took cover behind a hay bale and I signalled to Nicolai to move up to me followed by the remainder of the unit, as Gaz came up behind the unit a spotlight gleamed off him causing a burst of sporadic fire came from the direction of the flashlight.
"Open fire!" Price told us as we moved across the field firing at anyone who shot at us.
"I'm at the greenhouses at the edge of the field, get over here now! I'll cover!" Soap told us all as we moved across the field. I fired a burst from my SAW and suppressed the fire as the remainder of our squad moved into the greenhouse but as we moved into the greenhouse the chopper started to hammer rounds into the greenhouse.
"Shit!" I shouted as I dove into the plants on the floor of the greenhouse. I raised my ESR and fired rounds into the gunner port of the chopper stopping the fire, "PKM's dead!" I shouted to everyone as we moved out on the track which led to the barn house.
As we pounded the barn with fire Soap and Gaz moved up to breach, they chucked in a flashbang and entered. After they did all fire from the barn stopped, the unit moved up onto the bar but as we did we came under intense fire from the chopper.
"Captain Price, we've got Iglas in the barn," Gaz shouted as the roof above our heads ripped apart.
"Soap Anchor get on those missiles and take him the hell out," Price ordered as Soap and I scooped up the single shot missiles. I locked onto the chopper and I fired the missile at the chopper but the chopper spurted chaff out the back causing the missile to veer off course into another barn. As the chaff cleared off Soap fired his missile into the chopper but this time it struck the tail rotor sending the chopper into a spin knocking it out of the sky.
"Good work you two," Price told us as we made our way out the back of the barn towards the rendezvous with the spectre.
"Bravo six, be advised, war hammer is moving into your airspace at this time, out." Baseplate told us over the radio.
"Bravo six, this is war hammer standing by, heard you could use a hand down there, call the shot," An American voice told us calmly down the radio.
"War hammer, fire mission, danger close! Enemy armour and infantry one zero zero metres to the south west of our location, marking with IR designator, over?" Price told him as he lowered his NVGs and pointed his rifle towards the armour and personnel.
"Copy, splash in five," War hammer replied as they launched the 105mm and 40mm into the cluster of armour and infantry.
The vehicles and men pretty much disappeared behind the cloud of smoke and dust, "That's bloody outrageous mate!" Gaz shouted from behind me.
"War hammer, good effect on target, Bravo six moving out," Price told us as we made our way through the dust and burnt out vehicles. "Activate IR beacons so we can mark ourselves for war hammer," Price ordered as we moved over the bridge into another small village.
"War hammer we are approaching a town with a large church," Price told the gunship over the comms.
"Roger that we are seeing a lot of activity in the town, we are getting confirmation on the ROE, sit tight Bravo six, Over?" War hammer told the squad over the open channel.
"Sir, I've got eyes on atleast twenty times packs moving from the church into the fields and one times victor on the road by the church," I told Price as we sat waiting for war hammer.
"Bravo six, the ROE has been made clear, the whole town has been declared hostile but we are not to engage the church, ready to engage targets outside of danger close fire, over?" War hammer clarified to us.
"Roger that war hammer, we are moving to clear hostiles now; you can engage everything without IR strobes, over?" Price told war hammer as we started to fire at the targets in the town.
"Roger, engaging," War hammer told us as a burst of 40mm fire came down on the hostiles that were around the church. The fire abruptly stopped as the rounds continued to pummel the area. "Bravo six, you are clear to move up on the church, over?"
"Roger that war hammer, we are moving now, out!" Price silenced the radio as we pushed up encountering more enemy infantry as we moved deeper into the town, "War hammer, we are passing the church heading towards the MR through this AO, over?"
"Copy that, Bravo Six looks like you've got a series of enemy combatants coming to play from an adjacent village down the road, you want us to give them a welcoming one zero fife mike mike? Over?"
"Copy that war hammer, go ahead" Price replied.
"Give them my love," I told war hammer over the radio.
"Yeah, I think we got them, lots of little pieces down there," War hammer replied sounding oddly pleased about themselves.
We arrived at the main route through the town and waited for a civilian vehicle to come down the road towards us as the whole squad wouldn't fit in one of the combatants VPK-3927 but as we waited a civilian GAZ-469 rolled up so we put warning shots into the passenger side window. As we did the driver rolled out of the car and ran off so Gaz, Sergeant Leyton and Soap commandeered the vehicle, meanwhile Price, Nicolai and I got in the VPK. Nicolai got into the driver's seat as he could actually read the Russian on the dash mean while I got up and manned the DShK.
"Bravo six, we are seeing heavy activity on route to and in the next village, we are circling around to engage, over?" War hammer told us over the comms, we felt safe in the VPK but the others were in a soft skinned vehicle.
"Copy that hammer you are clear to engage all targets," Price told them over the channel, "We are marking our vehicles so you can ID us."
"Roger that, we just destroyed a BMP so you should be relatively clear for your trip through the village," War hammer told us.
As we moved through the village there were a few brave people who still jumped up on us but I quickly engaged them with the DShK, eventually we moved up to the junkyard mere yards from the extraction point.
"War hammer, we are leaving the vehicles and proceeding on point to the evac site, how copy? Over?" Price told them as we exited the vehicles and moved into the junkyard as war hammer engages targets on all sides.
"We copy Bravo six, but be advised some of this will be extreme danger close, we'll be using the 25mm if it comes down to less than fifty metres from your position, over?" war hammer told us ominously.
"Roger that war hammer, we are low on ammo anyway so you can shoot anything you feel you can safely engage, out!" Price told them as we all started to hammer rounds out in all directions but eventually we came across the LZ and a more easily defendable position. War hammer continued to provide intimate air support which proved to be a god sent as we started to run dangerously low on ammo.
"Brass check!" Price ordered as we slowed our rate of fire.
"fifteen rounds!" Soap exclaimed as he started to fire single shot at the enemy.
"Last belt!" I shouted as I loaded in the final fifty round belt into the SAW.
"I'm out!" Gaz shouted so I tossed him my ESR and he continued to fight.
"Last mag!" Nicolai then told us as he fired single shot into the enemy positions.
"Ten rounds left!" Leyton then shouted as he very selectively fired his M4.
"Bugger!" Price shouted as his gun clicked. He then pulled out his side arm and continued to fire the .45 into the enemy.
"Bravo six, be advised friendly helos are entering your airspace at this time," War hammer told us as they continued to rain down 25mm fire on the enemy.
As the helos touched down we all sprinted through the barrage of fire while the choppers, their supporting AH-64s and war hammer continued our push onto the choppers as soon as we got on board we were in the air and on our way.
"War hammer, all personnel on board, thanks for the assist, out!" Price signed off on the radio.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter, I will try and get another one out soon but no promises anyway please feel free to review and tell me what you think of the chapter and the story so far I do appreciate criticism and will try and improve upon it. But until the next chapter… PEACE!
