Chapter 10: Melon Bread
How did Juvia Lockser, the former Rain Woman, ended up with this mess? A week ago, she was dragged by Ultear Fullbuster and made her quit her job in exchange of another. Never did she imagined that she will be working in a huge mansion, The Fullbuster's Mansion, to be precise. She could have refused the offer but the ladies of the house are good at tricking her. Oh, how she regret accepting it. If only she knew that it was just all a one big set-up. Juvia had no problem cleaning an entire mansion but being stuck and becoming Gray's personal maid? She would rather die.
The bluenette sighed for the nth time today. "What am I doing with my life?"
"I see, you have the time to complain." She found the person who's the source of her predicament leaning against the wall, ten meters away from where she is.
"Yeah right. Juvia was not informed that gardening is also part of her job." She muttered.
"What was that you're saying?"
"Nothing." She shouted from a distance.
"It's very unusual of you to wake up early." A voice behind Gray said. It was his mother, Ur. She was holding a cup of hot coffee on her right hand. Behind her was Loke.
"No its not." He replied.
"I see. Too eager to see her face then?" Ur teased before taking a sip from her drink. Gray nearly choked upon hearing his mother's words. Loke, on the other hand, let out a chuckle which earned him a glare from Gray.
"What?! No!" He defended. "Come on! Who would want to be with that violent woman?"
Meanwhile, the blue-haired woman who's the center of their conversation was also listening. "Seriously, if they are just gonna talk behind Juvia's back. At least do it quietly where she can't clearly hear it. Geez these people.." She thought to herself.
Two weeks had gone by since Juvia became Gray's personal maid. She thought that being his servant would be easy but boy was she wrong. If it isn't for the huge amount of money that she'll receive, she would definitely not accept Ultear's proposal.
It looks like her dream of having a peaceful highschool life is now ruined. Well, not that she cares at all since wherever she goes trouble will always be with her. Its in her nature and blood. But the thing is, she promised herself to change and cause less havoc as much as possible. That is why no matter what happen she must remain calm or less violent.
She was startled when someone grabs her hand from behind."What the?"
It was Gray. "I need you to buy something."
"Huh? Why me?"
"Because you're working for me."
"Tch.. As if Juvia have a choice." She snorted.
"Exactly." He stated. "Now buy me some lemon soda and a limited melon bread from across the street."
"Seriously? You can just buy it by yourself." She complained.
"I have something to do. I'll be waiting at the school's rooftop" He gave her some money before turning around. "Ja ne."
The bluenette was left unable to complain. "Something to do he says.. As if she'll believe that." She hissed.
Juvia's jaw almost dropped when she saw the crowded bakeshop. It seems that the melon bread was their bestselling product and from what she observed, they are willing to risk their pride and lives, if possible, just to get a hold of it. With a devious smile plastered on her face, she's suddenly fired up. "This is just the same scenario everytime there's a sale in the grocery store. Juvia thinks she can do this." She confidently assured herself. Without hesitation, she charge towards the crowd.
To her dismay, no matter how hard she pushed, she can't seem to get through. "Just how delicious is that bread? What have I gotten myself into."she whispered as she tried again. This time, she will not hold back.
Just a little push and she can finally get through the crowd but unfortunately luck wasn't on her side today. Someone from the crowd pushed her unintentionally and she lost her balance. Luckily, her fall wasn't that painful. "Here let me help you." a silver-haired boy offered her a hand which she gladly took. Juvia dusted herself before turning to face the one who helped her.
"Thank you." She bowed showing her gratitude.
"N-no need to be that formal." The boy relied. "Here." He handed her some melon bread.
"Oh, lucky! Thanks." without any hesitation, Juvia gladly took it. Afterall, it is much better than charging again through those people. "You save Juvia the trouble of buying this."
"Well, I'm glad that I can be of any help." he said amused by her reaction.
"Then Juvia's going this way." She pointed in the opposite direction. "Thank you again, stranger-san!" She grinned before going the other way.
The silver-haired waved his hand with a smile plastered on his face. "Stranger-san huh? You really are interesting, Juvia Lockser."
A loud thud was heard from the rooftop's door. There stood the blue-haired girl panting heavily with a bag of soda and melon bread from her left hand. "What took you so long?" Gray stood in front of her impatiently.
A vein popped into her head. "Do you know difficult it is to buy this stupid bread of yours?"
"I know, that's why I let you bought it, to save me the trouble." He smirked.
Juvia just stood there dumbfounded. "Easy, ice princess." Gajeel put his one arm over Gray's shoulders. "Don't mind him, woman. He's on his period." Gajeel teasingly smirked.
Now, its Gray's turn to be angry. "What the hell Gajeel!"
Gajeel released his arm on Gray's shoulder and raised both of it. "Come on dude, I'm just joking." the two young men was surprised when they heard Juvia laughing.
"It is not funny." Gray said seriously. If he thinks that Juvia will stop because of what he said, then he is wrong. Her laugh grew louder that even Gajeel let out a chuckled.
The bluenette is glad that Gajeel was there with them at that time to lighten up the atmosphere. Out of all the male friends of Gray, Gajeel is the one who's closest to her. That's because, even for a short while that she worked in his cafe, she has the chance to be friends with him.
