Hi guys :) I know that I've got major apologies to give and I am very sorry that this has taken so long... I kinda lost direction for this story but I really sincerely hope that it's back... Anyhoo, leave me a review so I can see if I still have readers left :)

It was a compromise. I lost.

Amy wandered into her apartment, Sheldon following not far behind.

"I don't see why we had to make such an unnecessary stop," he huffed, "you'll only be returning after you drop me off,"

Amy frowned, looking over at him, "Sheldon, we went over this in the car," she pulled off the red locks of woollen hair, "these shoes are hurting and this wig was itchy,"

Sheldon eyed her, annoyed, before closing the door.

Amy walked straight past the couch and into her bedroom. Sheldon stood, his hands clutched in front him loosely. He looked around the room, feeling that same content feeling he always felt when he saw how organised and clean his girlfriend was, before walking stiffly over to the kitchen. This Raggety R2D2 costume had its downs.

He opened the fridge and took down a glass from the cupboard. He poured himself a glass of YooHoo before placing the container back in the fridge.

He began drinking the liquid as he turned to find Amy watching him from her desk.

"Yes?" he asked, furrowing his brows and giving his voice a high pitch of inquiry as he lowered the glass:

"Mmmh," Amy replied, shaking her head and suppressing a smile at the thin moustache the drink left behind. She looked back down at her desk and picked up her car keys.

She made a mental note to tell her bestie of this.

Numbly, he could feel his surroundings moving past him, but he couldn't feel himself. It was oddly like being in a vehicle.

Life zoomed past him but he remained where he was, his thoughts and memories the only connection to what was.

As he stopped face to face in front of the man in scrubs, he thought one last time of her, wearing that blue dress and white and red striped stockings, letting himself escape once more into his memories, so vivid yet so far away.

"Dr. Cooper?" the man asked, his expression slightly worried yet blank.

"I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but the patient Amy Fowler has had to be out into a coma," he paused as the people around him gasped and let out strangled sobs.

He felt nothing. He felt everything.

He felt the pain and the sadness. He felt numb and emotionless.

He finally felt his Amy.
He no longer felt her.

"The fever was caused by an infection sustained in the wound on her forehead," he cleared his throat, "the virus caused potentially fatal damage, mainly to her nervous system, so because of that we chose to take the decision that we did,"

He frowned and softly clapped his hands together, "We can now allow one person at a time to see Amy as we have moved her to a more permanent room,"

His advanced mind picked out key words, chose key terms and studied them. His mouth forced saliva down his enclosing throat.

"Sheldon, you go," Howard said as he turned and saw that his friends were now sitting on the plastic chairs.

He was still standing, his mind was still faltering, his body still insentient.

He looked up from his small friend, looking over him. Leonard was hugging Penny, who was sobbing into his shoulder, darkening the nude colour of his hoody with moisture, trying himself to stop the droplets of salty liquid from running down his cheek.

Raj had an arm around Bernadette's shoulder as she dabbed at tears on her face with a tissue, sniffing loudly. Raj had no tears, but he kept breathing hard, as if fighting against it all. Before he knew it, he caught his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he whispered.

He felt a pressure against his forearm and looked down, Howard had his hand on him.

"Go," was all he said and suddenly he felt his surroundings change, he looked down and saw his feet moving. The doctor was suddenly next to him again.

"She has had some further surgery,"

Silence.

"We planned—"

Silence.

"—if she wakes up,"

His mind was starting to blank out, it felt like he was no longer in control of his motor functions, he was no longer in control of anything.

Now he heard and felt his heart pumping constantly in his ears, as if it wanted to make a point.
He was still alive yet he couldn't live without her.

It wasn't until he reached a white door, that he realised the doctor was no longer talking and he was no longer walking.

He turned to look at the doctor who slowly reached his hand for the door handle.

There was a moment in his life when Leonard would have given anything to have friends.

Friends who didn't mind his flatulent reaction to dairy or his slight addiction to Babylon 5. Friends who would really care about him.

It wasn't until he decided to take a job at CalTech university that this part of his life really began.

He met his quirky, genius and annoying best friend. Dr Sheldon Cooper, two PhDs and a Master's Degree yet still manages to get his head stuck in a wall and hasn't yet learnt how to drive.

Sheldon frustrates the hell out of him, yet something inside him was sure that he couldn't ever replace him and be happy about it. That's why he was having such a hard time seeing his friend so close to breaking point. It seemed like Sheldon was falling deeper and deeper into an abyss that only Amy would be able to get him out of.

He never thought that Sheldon would end up having a girlfriend. Never in a million years.

But it happened and Amy entered their circle of friends. A socially awkward and outspoken woman with the soul of a teenage girl, who never really got to experience friendship.

She is exactly like Sheldon and so different at the same time. Almost as if they were a mirror image of each other.

She has a lot more tolerance and patience than Sheldon, that's for sure, otherwise she wouldn't continue to be with him. Sheldon can sometimes be a huge ass to her. But even through this she has stayed with him and Leonard knew that deep down Sheldon loved Amy and wouldn't want her to leave his life.

He sometime thinks that Hollywood would get a kick out of Sheldon and Amy. The biologist and the physicist... He always figured it would be a like messed up Disney love story.

He also thought that it would take decades before he would even come near to acknowledging that he has profound feelings for Amy and for them to take real steps forward to creating a life together, although he seriously doubted whether their life together would ever really be 'normal'.

But everything that has happened since the car accident has caused Leonard to question if he really knew his best friend. Of course he knew he would be upset that Amy was hurt but what he saw made him rethink everything, Sheldon hasn't worked for days, has barely talked, barely eaten and the longer Amy is in hospital, the more he seemed to be losing his best friend.

Leonard felt it, Sheldon was slowly detaching himself from reality, wanting to escape so deep inside his thoughts that he would be back with Amy in his memory.

That's what worried Leonard the most. Would sheldon be able to cope with losing Amy? And what if he couldn't?

The answer was right in front of him.

The man walking back into the waiting room right now looks like he has had any remaining life in him shredded into a million pieces, his face is pale and dark circles cling to his eyes.

And it's only then that Leonard realises that if Amy dies, Sheldon's entire being will go with her.
