PART 10
Dick balanced the mountain of plates as he walked to the table. "Where's Bart gone?"
"Home," answered Diana, as she collected the empty glasses.
Dick rolled her eyes. "Typical."
"Why was he invited in the first place?" asked Etosa, loading the binbag. "Not that I didn't enjoy his company, but... "
"He was a last-resort if we were stuck for time," said Diana. "Still, he - and you - did a fine job keeping the children entertained. Thank you for that."
"It was my pleasure," said Etosa. "Since I've come to Man's World, most of the time I've been fighting - it made a nice change." Etosa had come from Themyscira less than a year ago, eager to follow in Wonder Woman's footsteps. After a brief run as a solo heroine, the young Amazon had been drafted into the Birds of Prey, codenamed Eagle. She was doing the WonderBat Family proud.
"Besides," Diana continued, "after saving Faith's life, Bart's entitled to do what he pleases. Despite what Bruce says." At that, Dick nearly burst into laughter.
"It'll be strange being in the Clocktower on my own," Etosa said. "Maybe I'll invite Helena up for a nightcap."
"She'll probably be working," sighed Dick. "You know how she is. Anyway, it'll give you a chance to catch up on your TV." Indeed, since her time away from Paradise Island, Etosa had consuming endless hours of television, leading her to joke that the Birds of Prey team was more akin to "Oracle's Angels."
"It's not as much fun without Laurel to watch with me, and it's late now," sighed Etosa. She would be alone tonight: the Gordon-Lances had elected to stay the night at the Manor. Dinah was in no state to travel. And it being so late in the evening, their daughter was sleeping over as well. "Dinah was hilarious today."
"She wouldn't last long in a Themysciran drinking party, that's for sure," smirked Diana. "She must be snoring her head off around now."
"I went to check in on them about half-an-hour ago," Etosa said with a shiver. "When I reached their room... well, it's a good thing you were able to put Laurel in her own room. Those weren't noises of sleep I was hearing from Babs and Dinah."
Diana blinked. "Oh my." The two Amazons began giggling.
Dick meanwhile, simply quirked an eyebrow. "Maybe I should check up on them... "
"Stay right here," ordered Diana. "I'm sure Kory would love to hear you spent some 'quality time' with your ex and her wife." She stood there with a smirk.
Dick was unfazed. "You'd be surpri... "
"That's enough, young man," said Diana, rolling her eyes and grinning. "There are children present. Speaking of which... did you hear who Zatanna and Selina asked to be secondary godparents... or guardians?"
"Indeed," said Etosa as she put the binbag amongst a similar bag full of cake remains. "From what I've heard, they're a fine choice."
"Clark and Lois are the best," Diana said. "I'm sure Bruce will have a stroke when I tell him. His entire reasoning was that he and I lead dangerous lives... so they pick Superman himself." Shaking her head, Diana sighed. "Still... I couldn't think of anyone better."
"Speaking of which... come and half a look at this."
At Dick's urging, Diana turned her head, and saw Selina and Zatanna in the corner, holding eachother close... fast asleep, with their children in their special five-seater pram doing the same. "Oh, Hera... " Diana whispered. "That's the sweetest thing... "
"It seems parenthood's finally caught up with them," said Etosa. "Looks like you'll have to prepare another guest room... "
"No," breathed Diana. "I'll leave them be for now. If they wake, then I'll direct them to a room. Besides, Alfred always leaves the rooms in immaculate condition."
Etosa frowned. "Where is Alfred, anyway... ?"
