She thought she'd find him hereā¦out in the garden, staring up at the stars. "Come to bed," Rose said softly.
"Can't sleep," he replied in an equally quiet tone. "No reason to keep you from your rest."
Rose settled beside him on the garden swing, and gently wrapped both her hands around his bandaged one. "As if I could sleep, knowing you're out here brooding."
Will heard the tone of gentle remonstrance in her voice, and it was just one drop of guilt too many. "I failed, Rose."
"You made a mistake," she countered. "Part of bein' human, you know."
"I made plenty of mistakes before I became human. But at least then, I had the power to protect you."
"Hey." There was a hint of steel in her voice, and the firm grip of her fingers on his chin left him little choice but to turn and face her. "I've had plenty of experience lookin' after myself, thank you very much. You're the one who needs to remember that you've only got one life this go 'round."
"And it's all yours, Rose Tyler."
"And don't you forget it."
