The Soldier
I am back, and back with a vengeance. I had a lot of soul searching to do, finished school, and got a job while I was away. Now I am back with a clean mindset. So Yay!
Even after years of writing angry letters, I still don't own Final Fantasy 7.
Chapter 10
Sitting on the chopper going back to Midgar would normally feel like a great relief. Normally, but not quite this time. What Genesis said before knocking me out really messed with me. I guess that Zack was messed with too because of his silence. Well, nothing to do but twiddle our thumbs and wait to get out of the metal death box.
"What did Genesis mean when he talked to you?" Tsung asked, cutting the silence.
I shrugged and said, "Not sure."
Zack snorted and said, "Just more secrets that surround you then, huh?"
My eyes met Zacks and I could tell that something major was amiss. How could he say something like that? Does he know about where I come from? If so then how?
"What are you talking about Zack?" I voiced my thoughts in that one question.
Zack grimaced, "Why didn't you tell me about yourself? Why did I have to learn about you through Angeal?"
Tsung, who was flying, looks back at us from the pilots seat to hear my statement.
"If I were to have told you, would you have believed me? Hell I nearly lost my neck to a man with woman length hair wielding an impossibly long katana when I got here! Not only that but I was shoved into a helicopter that fell out of the sky! Then was sedated with what I could only think was cyanide at the time. Now even I was questioning if I had hallucinated my entire life! I only now know that I really lived back then. All thanks to a sociopath that had no problem murdering an entire village," I said, feeling like a knife was splitting into my skull.
Zack kept his mouth shut for the rest of the long flight back to Midgar. When we both entered the apartment, he fell to the floor and started to cry. I knelt down to his level and patted his back.
"Fill me in on what happened to you when your ready. If we're going to be friends you should know me a little more," I said.
I grabbed a beer from the fridge and looked at the clock on the stove. It was just past eight p.m. I went to the type writer and began my report. I already knew that it would be necessary to give my account to Lazard first thing in the morning. As I started to type, Zack had gotten up and went to the bathroom. I heard the shower going, so I had some time to type everything out.
By the time I had just about got to the end, Zack was out and began his questions.
"So who are really are you?" Was his first question.
"I am Abraham, that was always true," I answered.
"Tell me more about yourself?" He asked curiously.
"I came from a planet called Earth. I was born on a continent to the west called the Americas. I went to school from age 5 to age 17, where I finally graduated. After school, I spent a year working, but ended up joining the military at age eighteen. I learned to fire sniper rifles at vast distances, but ended up getting wounded bad in my right arm. That's why when we first trained I couldn't lift my blade. Anyways, I served in the Second Korean war for two years, then ended up in Afghanistan. I was supposed to go back home and get a prosthetic arm. Now I have to deal with pains in the arm at all times," I said.
"So that why you always have your left hand in front of your right," Zack realized.
"Its my turn now. What happened back there earlier?" I inquired.
"I met Angeals mom. Real nice woman to be honest. She was the only one left in town I think. Anyways, I found Angeal and he talked about being a monster. Then he started to talk about you. The way he was talking about you made me angry at you. He said that you are just like Genesis. Make a pact with me that you wont betray me. Ever!" Zack said with more energy than before.
I smiled and raised my right arm, "I promise that I'll never betray the living energizer bunny."
That went over Zacks head sadly, but the questions were now done with. Zack was now watching t.v. While I was swigging a beer. My report was done, all I had to do was turn it in.
That was when I got a text. I pulled out my phone and read a strange message from an unknown number.
'Don't ask how I got this number, but Cloud is in trouble. Get to the sector 5 playground.'
I lifted myself up and went to get my blade, but stopped myself. Change first, then conceal my revolver.
I did just that, and went to the door. That's when Zack stopped me.
"Going to have fun without me? I'm hurt, I feel so betrayed!"
"Good to know that your back to normal. I have to go to sector five's playground. Some kid I promised to help get stronger is in trouble," I said.
"We have to go now then!" Zack yelled.
"Zack, I don't think that…" I started, but was soon pushed into the elevator.
As I hit the bottom floor button, I turned and said, "trouble never goes down at eight thirty."
Zack shook his head. "If he's in trouble now then he wouldn't have texted you right now!"
As the doors opened, Zack slid through the door. I had to jog to keep up with him. When we reached the train station, and boarded the train, I got my chance to talk to him.
"It wasn't even him that sent the text. I don't even know who sent the text," I started.
"Don't you care about this guy?" Zack asked.
"I do man, but I don't want you to scare him off," I said.
The train ride landed then at sector seven. I asked when the train would depart, and was told it goes up at ten, one hour from now. Zack led the way to the gates that led to sectors five and six.
"Glad you could make it Abraham. I see you brought Soldier second class Zachary Fair," a very familiar voice said.
"So what has Cloud gotten himself into?" I asked.
"They are just over there. Its going to be a fight," Magnum said.
I walked over to see four guys ganging up on Cloud. I could see a girl watching in the distance.
"Zack, I have this," I said.
"Hey, go fuck yourself man. This is between me and the chocobo!" The rude man yelled.
"Uh dude, his eyes are flaked," one of his friends said.
"Just stay out of this!" The guy said.
"Okay, those are both good options, but I have a better one. I fight three of you while Cloud takes care of your loud ass," I offered.
Before I got an answer, one of the taller guys ran towards me. He sent a wild heymaker towards me, which I ducked under. While there I bashed my right elbow into his gut. He doubled over, I saw the second man who wears a gold chain squared up to me. I backed up so I could keep my eyes on both of the scum bags.
Gold chain threw a few left jabs my way, which I dodged. I saw the tall man get back up. I sent three lefts wildly towards the gold chain man. He easily dodged those easily. But when he sent a right in retaliation, I punched his hand. I heard his bones pop, and felt my arm shift. I then felt something hard bash into my back. It sent me forward, then I was hit hard in the side by the tall man.
He tosses me to the side, the mocked me by saying "If you're a soldier, then where is your sword?"
I regained my footing and pulled the revolver out from under my jacket.
He paled when I tossed it to Zack. That's when I noticed Cloud dodging a lot of attacks from the rude bastard. I ran straight for the tall man at full speed, and slammed into him with all my strength. He fell to the side, then I blitzed the guy with the wood board in the face. I saw his eyes roll, then he was down.
That leaves gold chain on the ground crying, wood man on the ground having a bad dream, and tall man who pulled out a knife. Zack was about to jump in but I shook my head. Tall man was desperate, he did wild slashes towards me. And when he went to stab, I side stepped him and broke his arm by pushing his elbow inward. He fell to the ground clutching his arm.
I turned to Cloud and said, "Remember, his balls are an opening for you to exploit!"
As I said this, he went to block his crotch. Cloud slammed his fist into the rude guys head. Not strong enough to knock him out, but his ears were likely ringing. That's when I heard a revolver hammer click behind me. I turn to see the man I knocked out behind me with a knife, and behind him Magnum had his revolver on the back of his head. I smirk, then turn back to the fight.
Cloud looked like he was winning. But caught a wild left hook to the jaw. He fell back a little, that's when I stepped in and put him into a bear hold. He was a few inches into the air, then came crashing to the ground.
"Your friends are down. By the way, its my turn," I got off his back and he got up and tried to tackle me.
Instead of me falling back, I wrapped my arm around his neck and put enough pressure to block his air. After thirty seconds he was flailing. At one minute, he was still for about a few seconds. I let go and he took many deep breaths.
"Come on Cloud. Lets go back to the upper plate," I said.
"Thanks for the invite magnum. Lets do this again some time," I said to magnum.
With that we were all going to the train. It was about to leave the station when we got on. As the train lurched forward, I asked Cloud about what that was.
"They've been following me around while I was patrolling a couple days ago. We can't carry weapons while out of uniform, so I guess they were trying to mug me or something," Cloud said lowly.
"You did really well kid! You're like a firecracker, when you go off it's a loud bang!" Zack excitedly said.
Cloud looked confused. So I said, "Ignore him. He thinks he's clever. But still he is right, you explode in a big flash, then you're out. Tomorrow come by, we're going to start your training."
Cloud nodded. When we got to the HQ, Cloud went his own way to the barracks. Zack and I entered out apartment, I took a shower, then fell asleep.

So I'm willing to say this, as chapters I've written in the past goes, this ones a little more action heavy. This chapter is more about getting back into the swing of things. So here is the full update, we are continuing the story next chapter. The parts from Crisis Core will not be a complete following of Zack, but at the same time the two will still go on missions together. Abraham will be doing more investigations into terrorist cells rather than going after angeal and genesis. There will still be filler, just not like the first through eight chapters as well as this one.
