Entry 10:

2011, MARCH 12, 5:40 PM

Aqualad yelled after me but it was drowned out as my every sense was smothered by the thick, rushing water. The huge hands were still holding me, I couldn't breathe. I struggled and huge arms wrapped around me, seeming to mould around my body and harden so I couldn't move either. I heard a large splash and frantically hoped it was Aqualad.

I could see nothing but blackness, so I cast my mind out. I could still see next to nothing in the dark sewers, until I suddenly could see above ground: Kid Flash was kneeling over the manhole, shouting down. Around him were paramedics and firemen and the two children. The rain was still pouring down. I backtracked my vision, panicking. Aqualad wasn't there so he must have dived in after me. My chest burned. I struggled to use my telekinesis to free myself but I couldn't get a grip on whatever was restraining me.

My head was pounding and my chest felt like it was about to explode when I made out the faint glow of Aqualad's waterbearers in sword form. I focused on that with all my might and teleported in front of him.

I was off by several yards, but luckily I'd teleported ahead of him. Unfortunately, I was still held tightly and so I must have teleported whoever was holding me as well.

Aqualad swam harder towards me and I was swept towards him, only then realising that my assailant had dragged me against the current. I telekinetically grabbed at my captor, trying to pull free whatever it was that was wrapped around me so tightly, but to no avail. I felt like I was on the verge of passing out when Aqualad's sword sliced through it and it broke free of me letting me go completely.

I heard a hoarse, unearthly roar. I gasped in a lungful of air and collapsed forwards in the water, almost drowning in sewage but Aqualad forced the water away so once again it was travelling around the walls of the tunnel. I fell to my hands and knees and gasped for breath, recovering quickly and glancing at my assailant.

Clayface.

What on earth was he doing in Happy Harbour?

I caught my breath and stood, staring at the huge, sticky monster which towered in front of Aqualad and me, his fists raised and hardened into hammers. I swore under my breath. Aqualad was standing firmly between me and Clayface, one hand raised and directing the water, his feet braced and shoulders squared.

"Leave, now." He commanded with a voice full of authority, completely composed while I stood like a near-wreck behind him.

Clayface roared at him and didn't move.

Now, I lived in Gotham for four years and I've been training as a Superhero for a few weeks but I had no idea how to fight a giant made of shapeshifting goo. I hoped to heaven that Aqualad did.

"Levitate." Aqualad said quietly. The monster was still roaring and probably hadn't heard. "I'm going to electrocute him."

I jumped into the air and levitated, which I found was quicker and easier than trying to actually levitate myself off the ground for some reason.

In one deft movement, Aqualad blasted water into Clayface, placed his free hand against the flow and electricity sparked through the water, jumping across Clayface's body. He roared again, louder, and tried to raise an arm to block the water, but the electricity surged through him regardless. He started to melt, his goo running over itself as his body began to lose its shape. It was working!

Jinx.

Clayface swung his free arm and swatted Aqualad aside with his massive hammer fist. Aqualad went flying, and lost contact with the water and the electricity stopped.

"Aqualad!" I yelled and instinctively thrust a hand towards him, catching him with my telekinesis. Clayface had immediately begun to reform and he sent his other hammer-fist towards me. I thrust out my other hand and telekinetically caught his arm and shoved it aside, using his own momentum to force him off balance like Canary had taught me. I quickly placed Aqualad on his feet and swung my now-free telekinetic hand towards Clayface, catching his other arm and wrestling his as though my telekinetic body was larger than his physical form. He roared at me but I had him.

"Do it now!" I yelled at Aqualad over Clayface's noise and the roar of the water around me, which I suddenly realised was much closer. Aqualad electrocuted Clayface again and I realised that we were running out of space in the tunnel. If the water was flowing normally, it would certainly have be over my head, which reached to a little over half the height of the tunnel when I was standing on the floor.

Clayface continued to roar as he melted, he struggled but I held him with my telekinesis. Suddenly, he grew another arm out of his chest which rushed at me, the fist hardened into a spinning drill. I focus on it and caught it with another telekinetic hand.

Holy crap I have three telekinetic arms! Maybe I have legs as well? I kicked at him and felt a weak telekinetic force boot him as well. He recoiled but I was still holding him, and he was still slowly melting. He shot another clay limb at me, this one is smaller and moving much slower.

I knew for sure that I didn't have a forth arm, so I brought all my hands together and catch all four of his limbs together. Then I shoved them into the flow of water and Aqualad threw more energy into his electricity. Clayface roared more, struggled and then melted completely. Aqualad didn't stop electrocuting him until he'd completely fallen apart and been washed away, joining the main stream of water which rapidly pulls him through the sewers.

I looked at Aqualad. He was panting and I realised I was also breathing heavily, and then something brushed against my arm and I yelled in surprise and whipped around. It was the water, the levels were still rising as they were directed around us, and while I floated two feet above the floor of the sewer, there was only an inch or so of air space above and below me. I dropped into the water and it reached past my knees.

"We need to get out of here!" I yelled to Aqualad over the roar of the water.

He nodded, and even that movement looked strained. He'd drawn both his waterbearers and was still forcing the water back. "I can flow us back to the manhole…" he said.

I stomped towards him through the thick, rushing water, almost getting my legs swept out from under me. "I'd rather not risk it again." I grabbed him in a hug and sent my mind out. I quickly found the crowd gathered near the manhole we'd come through. If I'd teleported Clayface, I could teleport Aqualad . . .

A fireman and two paramedics shouted in surprise as Aqualad and I suddenly materialised in front of them. I let him go and looked around dizzily, having teleported facing the wrong direction I was I little disoriented. I squinted in the light, despite it being very dim it was much brighter than the almost absolute darkness of the tunnel.

It was still pouring with rain. There was an ambulance and a fire truck standing nearby, although I wasn't exactly sure what help a fire truck would be. Kid Flash appeared in front of us, looking relieved but clearly rattled.

"You're all right!" he exclaimed and caught us both in a hug. "I called for back-up, but I couldn't go in after you."

I nodded and Aqualad placed a wet, filthy hand on Wally's shoulder. "You did all you could." He sounded weary, but his voice still carried authority as he turned to the paramedics nearby and asked for a report. I admired him for his show of strength. I felt like I was swaying, almost about to fall over.

I turned to Kid Flash. "Are the kids all right?"

He nodded. "The boy woke up and started yelling about a 'monster' right before you disappeared. He's got a broken arm and is a bit of shock but he should be fine. The girl woke up briefly but passed out again, she's got a concussion. What was the 'monster' anyway? What happened?" He stared at me with serious, questioning green eyes.

"Clayface." I said. "He grabbed me and dragged me upstream. Aqualad electrocuted him until he melted. He's still in there somewhere."

A paramedic asked Aqualad and I if we needed any help, but we both declined. Despite her obvious concern for us, I could see she was relieved that we didn't need her help: we were both filthy, soaked and covered in clay and other muck, and we smelled terrible. Despite my insistence that I was fine, I was given a thermal blanket, and I sat down on the curb, relieved to be off my feet. Aqualad did likewise, and then Kid Flash followed suit.

Batman and Red Tornado arrived almost immediately. They marched over to us, and Batman, in his gruff, unreadable manner demanded: "What happened here?"

We sat silently for a second, with the Bat staring at us unnervingly. I elbowed Aqualad, who appeared to be gathering his thoughts together, and hissed, "That's your job."

He gave me an annoyed look before standing to face Batman in that very professional manner of his and explained the entire story much better than I could have – seeing as I probably would have managed to drabble on and get distracted despite the seriousness of the events, and the fact that Batman himself would be staring me down the whole time.

Before I knew it, the ambulance and fire truck had gone, Aqualad finished retelling the story and we headed back to the Cave, where we were ordered to hit the showers and head home. We did just that.

Mom was not happy.

2011, MARCH 12, 7:45 PM

I'm not sure what it was that made mom upset most: the fact that I'd had a sewer battle against Clayface and almost drowned after she told me to take it easy today, or that I came home wearing wet and stained clothes and was late for dinner.

I had a feeling she was more ticked about my clothes than my shenanigans, so I made a note to myself to always keep a spare change of clothes at the Cave, just for occasions like tonight.

Mom insisted that I have another shower and she took my clothes to be washed, handling the filthy garments gingerly, as though they were radioactive. She also insisted that I go to bed early, but despite being exhausted, I lay in bed for what seemed like an eternity before heading into the living room and joining her on the couch in front of the TV.

It was late when I finally hit the hay, and I slept fitfully.
