J: Job
Captain Amelia prided herself on being able to avoid certain 'invitations' when it came to her new job. It was practically required after graduating from the Royal Naval Academy, even though every finals week ended with all the graduates going out for a few drinks before heading home to finish packing for their first assignments, which usually ended with a few of the female graduates going home with the male graduates.
Those nights out with her old classmates were ones where Amelia began learning how to deal with even the most upright cadets getting drunk. She had a new reputation to uphold, so she had to verbally dance around their requests to dance and politely decline their offers of shots. She couldn't become a well-respected Naval captain if she was seen stumbling home with a random man every other night.
She found it annoying sometimes, especially when she overheard that the only reason she was invited to most outings was because she was...ahem… hot. Although, it made sense. During school hours, she wasn't spoken to much, but as soon as they found a reason to go out, she was suddenly the center of attention.
To this day, Amelia had no idea why she kept going along with it. They would go out, get drunk, and hype themselves up so that they would have the confidence to invite her home, as if she would change her answer suddenly. None of their advances fazed her, obviously, especially since every invitation to dance began with one of them stumbling over to Amelia and slurring something similar to the sound of a whale giving birth.
A decade later, she hadn't seen her classmates in years, and hadn't been invited to an outing since then. Being a well-respected Naval captain meant that she wasn't often one invited to such gatherings anymore. So when she got a letter asking her to meet the sender in an… Interesting place, she was curious enough to go.
It didn't hurt that the meeting place was her stateroom of the RLS Legacy, and that the sender was her significant other, who was currently making it very difficult to remember her rank.
"Delbert stop…"
"Nooope… You asked for this. You can't back out now, darling."
"Still...This is...very...unprofessional. I hope you know that."
"I don't think anyone is going to just burst into your stateroom and see anything, love."
Amelia couldn't help but laugh at the idea of a fresh-out-of-the-academy recruit stumbling into her stateroom, only to stutter and stare blankly at their top officer receiving a deep tissue massage from her First Mate. She was seated at her desk, her back to the large wall-to-wall window at the back of the room. Delbert stood behind her chair, smirking as he felt her 'vibrating' against his hands. Yes, she was purring. And yes, he was loving it.
"Yes, but… I would suggest that you pick things up a bit-… Lower, love… I don't want to be too long. You remember my reputation...mm… don't you?"
Delbert chuckled, complying to her wishes.
"I think the captain of the R.L.S. Legacy is entitled to a little alone time. Relax, darling, you're fine."
Amelia laughed breathlessly, her ears drooping lazily in her auburn hair. As far as she knew, Delbert had no professional training when it came to this sort of thing. But when her migraine had all but crippled her, of course he was the one she vented to. And boy was she glad she had mentioned it. Her migraine had all but vanished, but she didn't dare tell him that. What he was doing felt too good to stop.
"If you are here...I'm not alone. See... my dilemma? Besides… You invited me. You were aboard the ship long before I was, love. I'm sure my crew knows that we're in here together. We've been in here...Trying, and failing spectacularly, to keep quiet...For the last...hmm… half an hour?"
Delbert smirked, walking to the side of the chair, offering his hand as Amelia took it and stood up.
"Alright, alright. I suppose I see your point. I just figured you would like some time to unwind." he said, picking her hat up from the desk and handing it to her. He laughed as a thought occurred to him. "If your crew is suspicious, it's not my fault. I was not the one moaning and purring uncontrollably, Captain."
Amelia felt the tips of her ears burn, and she hit him with her hat.
"Oh shush you. Now, get out of here before I have you escorted out."
Delbert laughed, rubbing his arm as if she had hurt him. He headed for the door, and Amelia followed. She walked him out, her hands behind her back.
"Thank you for visiting, Doctor." she said, obviously hiding a smile.
"You're welcome, Captain. I will get back to you about those maps." Delbert was less adept at being discreet, and smiled anyway.
"See that you do." Amelia almost laughed and playfully scolded him on having such an infectious smile.
He grinned, swiftly leaning in to brush his lips against her ear.
"I'll finish the job at home."
Amelia felt a chill run down her spine but all she could do was blush uncontrollably and bite her lip.
"Off, Doctor."
Delbert obliged, laughing as he left her to her thoughts.
