Chapter X

Upon stepping out of the grey room, Amon was followed closely by those waiting outside the door. He wanted to be done with the entire affair, it felt like he been working years on this case. Answering questions from his own team would only slow him down.

"What are you going to do?"
"Did you really call the police?"
"Are we really giving him up to the wrong authorities?"

"He asked for a glass of water" Amon said lowly, walking away from the troop. "Where's Robin?" He asked.

"Still sitting by the monitors, she hasn't left them since you ordered her to stay there."

"Good," Amon said, "Karasuma."

"Yes?"

"Call in the police and explain to them we have a lead on their investigation."

"You mean-"

"I called his bluff," Walking down the long hallway he could hear them suddenly stop.

"You lied?"

"About the cops knowing, we just need his confession and they'll take care of it from here." Amon explained.

"What about the ice and water?"

"They'll come up with an excuse, they always do." He stopped and stared at the young woman, who sat in a trance at the soft glow of the monitor screens. Intent on watching Elix's suffering, but it seemed to be the exact opposite. As the screens revealed a rather relaxed and confident suspect in Elix. He could be heard laughing in the not too far distance, but it sounded empty like his eyes Amon thought.

"Robin." His voice broke her attentive gaze, and she turned her whole body around to face him.

"What did he say?!"

"Nothing," Amon said making his way to the small kitchen inside the office, "yet."

"What are you doing?" She asked hurrying over to his side.

"Does anyone have any food?" He went about gathering what he could.

"I do," Robin raised her hand, "why?"

"I imagine he's hungry," Amon said taking a tall black coffee mug, in hand, before running the sink fully on cold. "He could use some food with his final request."

"What was his request?" Robin asked for the rest of them,

"A tall glass of water," Amon filled the cup as he eased the running waters flow, "The effects of his medication, or the last of it, take an enormous amount of energy to break down. He could use a good meal before they come to pick him up…"

"You mean," Robin's voice grew weary, "we're letting him go?"

"Into police custody," Amon shut the tap off, "It's the best we can do."

"B-but…" Robin froze as Amon's turned to face her, "He's… he's a witch."

"No," Amon shook his head, "If he was one, the reports and files given to me by his 'medicine man' would've proved it."

"They have to be faked!" Robin started to argue, "He has to be one!"

"Robin!" Amon's voice went low, "Where's that food?"

"I want to take it to him." Robin said.

"No, absolutely not," Amon walked passed her stern eyes, "That's what he'd like." Amon went about setting together the suspects last meal, "You never actually held an actual conversation with him inside there, have you?"

Robin felt herself growing warm and hot from embarrassment, "We talked!"

"But you let his words, and actions get the better of you," Amon stood over the small setting he placed on a circle pan, "You didn't really listen to him in there."

Robin huffed in quiet rage, as she sorted through the separate trays inside the mini-fridge. "It's not much, but it's better than what he deserves." She pulled out the small plate of spaghetti, fixed with tomato sauce and finely chopped red and green veggies mixed together making the pans display, almost, complete. "Let me take it in with you."

"I don't need your help," Amon said taking a roll of bread from the kitchen basket, "Besides you'd only encourage him more to think of a way out."

"Amon," Karasuma was back in the room, "I called them and they're sending the two detectives in-charge of the case."

"Please!" Robin shouted, "I only want to see his reaction."

"Reaction… To what?" Amon asked, taking the pan in hand, as he turned back to the hall of the grey room.

"When he confesses,"

"That's what the cameras are there for."

"I have to be there," Robin started to shake, "I have to hear it for myself!"

"I just can't accept a moving picture without any sound!" Robin looked down and away from his commanding glare, "I need to hear him, I have to hear him say it, I want to hear him confess!"

The room stood in silence, all eyes on the two in the center of the office. "Karasuma how long until the detectives arrive here?"

"They said with traffic and the ride over it shouldn't be longer than a half an hour."

"Robin," Amon turned back to the hallway.

"Amon, I'm sor-"The young huntress was taken back, when the pans weight was suddenly placed in her hands.

"One word out of you inside that room, and I send you home." He walked away from the stunned room and the shock on Robin's face.

"When they arrive tell them to come to the room," Amon said back to Karasuma who agreed in silence. Looking over to Robin's expression and reading her current state of emotions.

"You can't do it," Karasuam said, "Either you or he'll say something that gets to one of you two into further trouble." Robin let out a heavy sigh, "But that's what you want, I suppose, since you're so determined to believe he's… like you."

"He's…" Robin stopped at the sound of the suspects groaning in the distance, "He's nothing like me." Walking down the hallway, it was cool, and longer than it had been previously. 'He's nothing like me.' She repeated the thought to herself. Taking every step down, carefully, as the tray swayed from side to side. 'I have to prove it, I have to prove it to them, and I'll prove who he is!"

"You said you'd be back with water…" His voice was enough to get her blood rising.

"I said I'd be back," Amon's voice calmed her shaking nerves, "Your request is being brought in as we speak." Robin stood at the open door way with Amon standing in-front of the table, and Elix's attention turned towards her.

"Awww~" He teased, "You brought me a waitress!"

"Sh-" Robin bit down on her tongue, knowing very well if she had said anything she would no longer be in the room, or office, for the remainder of his time.

"Come now, birdie!" He waved Robin over, coolly, "Let's see what Mama brought her dying chicklet."

Keeping her silence and her face bare of any emotion she took the last step inside the room. Amon turned over, closing the door behind Robin, "Oooh, so you are the bad cop!" He let out a faint giggle, "With the way you threw yourself at me, I almost didn't believe you… But when your…" Elix's eyes peered over to the tall and ominous figure in the grey room, "Friend, was able to sit and actually do some, ah, investigating, he's actually the nice one."

The pan was set beside the eager suspect's side, to which he gladly, slid over before himself, "Much obliged, Mr. Amon!"

"Don't thank me, I only poured the water," He said opening his chair and seating himself back down. "It was Miss. Sena who gave you the food."

"As a last supper, if you will, why?" He looked back to Robin's stern gaze, "Do you think I need your charity? Or is it you feel sorry for me? You really are the 'bad' cop." He smirked widely; taking a hold of the black coffee mug, as he greedily took his fill, "Wonderful stuff, what is this filtered?" Taking another long sip, his attention went back to the food.

"Hmmm," He flicked away the green bits that stuck out to him, "You don't strike me as an Italian, Miss. Sena." Taking a fork in hand and sorting through the bits of vegetable he disliked. "But then again, You don't see me much as an individual… Just another person, or maybe even worse… How did you two meet? Work? Yeah, that must be it…" He paused to look back up at the two workers expressions, "Work, there's no way someone as interesting as Mr. Amon would be caught dead standing beside… Someone, like you, right, ?" His off white teeth and curling lips forced her to look back to Amon. He remained focused and attentive to the suspect's actions.

Taking fork lightly in his hand Elix stretched himself out and began to dig in. "Mmm," He chewed loudly and with an open mouth, "You know what they say about spaghetti and pasta, in general? It makes you nice and fat!" He dug into another mouthful as he set himself back into his seat. Staring up, searching between the two, who were beginning to seem bigger than moment ago. "That's how I met her… Through work, well my sister kind of forced her way into it… After she came along, Maria" Elix stopped for a moment, to swallow, loudly, revealing to them an off coloured orange tinge to his teeth beginning to show.

"I… think it's sort of a cliché, to meet your significant other in a work environment." He pointed the fork between Amon and Robin, "You two are just like peas in a pod, and so was I… once." He went back to chewing his food, "Did you know often times, when the pods are being put under pressure, their temperatures rising and basically, being cooked… That one of those peas can sometimes pop out of the pod, and leave the other one inside, alone…" A small bit of laughter escaped him with bits of chewed food flying out.

"I'm just curious," scraping the last of his plate into the center of his plate, "Which of you will be the first to pop out?" There a sudden pause and an eerie silence grew between the three inside the room. "Me thinks, it would be… you!" Pointing his fork up at Robin, "But…I've been wrong before, many times, like you!" There was a curious glow to his blue eyes, like a spark of an ignition; as Robin felt the back of her neck tensing up.

"So…" Placing the fork down onto the plate, leaving the last bite to rest, "You want to know about what happened three nights ago?" He reached for the roll of bread, "That's why you let her back inside, so she could hear me finally… Admit it." Taking a large bite out of the fluffy white bun, Elix dropped the bun back onto the plate. "Well? Isn't one of you going to say anything!?"

The sudden rising of his voice did nothing to intimidate the stern and focused eyes of his captors. He let out a low rumble in his voice as he tapped the sides of his black mug, "Fine…Fine…I'll do all the talking, you, and You, had better pay attention, because I'm not going to be repeating myself!" Taking the cup back up to his quivering lips there was a sudden movement by Amon. As he finally placed down onto the table the recording device he had been running through the entire meeting.

"Please, take your time…"
