Hey guys! Chapter 10 is finally up. Sorry it is taking me longer and longer to update, but I have a lot going on at the moment so not a lot of time to write. Anyway not my longest chapter, but not my shortest either, so once again something is better than nothing.
As soon as Merlin and Dawn reached Gwaine's chambers they saw said knight pacing up and down the room muttering to himself. Dawn walked in cautiously with Merlin following behind.
"Gwaine, are you alright?" Dawn asked, concerned.
"Ah, Dawn. I have already have a few ideas to pay Arthur back." Gwaine said winking.
"Gwaine there is no need for any plans of yours. You are a knight of Camelot, so I doubt it will take a long time to earn the money back. To make it quicker I will have to find another job." Dawn explained. She turned around to face Merlin who was looking worriedly at Gwaine.
"Merlin, could you get me a job? Anything would be fine, apart from the tavern, obviously." Dawn asked hopefully.
"I suppose I could..." Merlin answered. "You two really like going to the tavern, don't you?" He added.
They nodded their heads in reply.
.~.~.~.
"How is your father coping? Any improvement?" Asked Agravaine
"He is still hurt from... The betrayal, but no improvement at the moment." He confessed.
"So, how was your journey, Uncle? Safe I hope." Arthur questioned, changing the subject.
"Safe indeed. We traveled as fast as possible; I was eager to see you again." Replied Agravaine with a smile on his face.
"And I, you." Arthur said and then carried on eating in silence.
.~.~.~.
"Dawn!" Merlin shouted to get her attention. She stopped walking and turned around.
"I managed to get you a job in the kitchens!" He smiled.
"That's great! I owe you one." She said and turned around to head back to her chambers.
"Dawn, wait. The only thing you owe me is an explanation from the other night." He said in a serious tone, he had been thinking about it ever since they'd had that conversation with Maven.
"I suppose I have left it a while. Meet me at my chambers in half an hour and I will tell you everything that I know." She decided and then carried on walking.
.~.~.~. (Half an hour later)
Merlin knocked on the wooden door and waited patiently outside. Dawn quickly answered and invited him inside. They both took a seat at the table in the centre of the room. Merlin was the one to break the silence.
"So... Are you going to explain?" He asked looking up at her.
"I don't know where to start." She said
"The bow, maybe. I am sure you know why me seeing the triskelion means I have magic." He suggested.
"Ah, yes. The triskelion is only visible when someone - or something - has magic and is close. That is how I found you and Arthur in time. I think the reason you saw it, is because you have magic. I'm not really sure, however. No one with magic has gotten close enough before, for me to know if they could see it or not." Dawn explained.
"Alright, I suppose Maven is next." Merlin said
"Right. Maven isn't actually my real Mother, but she has looked after me for as long as I can remember." She told him.
"What about your parents? Where are they?" Merlin asked.
"I've never met them. Maven told me that they were young when I was born, so they had to give me away. Maven was a very good friend of theirs and agreed to take me in and raise me as her own." She answered.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Where did you live? Staying with a druid, especially with Uther hunting them, must have been dangerous." He said.
"It was. At first we lived in a druid camp, but when I was nine we were attacked. We escaped but the others weren't so lucky. After that Maven decided we would be safer living on our own, but that meant a lot of travelling. This is the longest I have stayed in one place in years." She admitted
"I'm sorry," Merlin said after a while, confusing Dawn.
"Why?" She asked
"For instantly thinking you were in league with Morgana and Morgause." He replied.
"It's fine Merlin, I understand completely. If I were you, I would of been cautious as well. It has been over a two months since the attack on Camelot, everyone is expecting them to do something." Dawn said
"Well, thanks. Not everyone would be so forgiving if they were accused of something like that." Merlin admitted
They sat there for a moment in silence.
"Well," Dawn said standing up and wiping invisible dirt off of her dress, "Why don't you introduce me to the cook? I believe her name is Mary?"
Merlin nodded then stood up and lead Dawn down to the kitchen's and hoping Mary would like her and not try to force food down her throat each morning like she did with him.
...
"I heard that you were attacked and captured by bandits last week. How did you escape?" Agravaine asked Arthur.
The Prince stood up and walked over to his Uncle and then gestured to the door. Both men left and just walked down a random corridor.
"I wasn't really captured, but I was close to it. I couldn't think of an easy escape, because my servant had an arrow sticking out of his leg." Arthur began,
That confused Agravaine, "Merlin? Are you sure? An arrow wound wouldn't heal up that quickly, I mean only a week later he walks as well as you or I."
"I know, but that will be explained in a minute. As I was saying, there was no escape for both of us, but before either of us could have been killed, the bandits met that fate first. Before I even realised what was going on all of them were dead. Someone had shot them with arrows. I thought it was the knights, because the speed they were fired at didn't seem possible for one person to do. I went to my servant and try to pull out the arrow, but to no avail. Then a person came from the trees and it was a woman. She claimed she shot the men dead so I could trust her. Her name is Dawn, I could tell it was her who shot the arrows, because she had a pack of the same ones on her back and she also had a bow. She pulled the arrow out of my servants leg and then put something on its that cleaned and closed the wound and left a small mark. At first I thought it was magic, but I heard no spell and I didn't see a flash of gold in her eyes. Also, it didn't completely heal it, because it opened up the next day from a small knock, but Gaius just reapplied what Dawn had and he has been fine ever since." Arthur finished explaining.
"Where is Dawn now?" Agravaine questioned.
"She was on her way to Camelot anyway, so we let her travel with us. She currently uses one of the guest rooms. I am sure she would be delighted to meet you, Uncle. If it isn't a problem." Arthur answered
"Of course not." Agravaine smiled. He did want to meet this woman.
"Then lets go. This way," Arthur gestured the down a corridor on the left and then led the way.
Sooo, what do you think? I don't know if the whole Dawn explaining to Merlin part happened to fast. Here are some questions for you... Why is Agravaine happy about getting to meet Dawn? Will Mary like Dawn? Also, do you want to see more of Dawn teasing Arthur? Do you want more of Dawn and Gwaine? Who should Dawn be better friends with Merlin or Arthur or both? Let me know what you guys think, because I would love to hear what you guys think will happen and what you want to happen. Until next time! (Insert Saluting Emoticon Here)
