I am such a horrible person! I am so sorry that it took me forever to upload!
My computer crashed and wouldn't work so I had to wait until my dad finally called someone to come fix it. That in itself took forever and then it turned out the guy had to take a part to clean it or something because we had a lot of corrupted files and I couldn't update because the files that had my story were only on this computer so I had to wait until it was clean and fixed.
But I'm back now and I want to thank everyone for the reviews and follows! I know my updating skills leave a lot to be desired but I want to thank everyone for sticking with me! Anyway I hope you like this chapter!

Chapter Nine: Locusts, Scarabs, and Mummies! Oh My!
I didn't have the heart to tell her that I had actually gotten my information from these weird visions I was having. I mean could we say hello cuckoo city. I just smiled and kept my mouth shut, going along with the convenient excuse she gave me.
Later after everyone had turned in I was walking around the campsite. I had had that long nap and wasn't really ready to go to bed just yet. I was enjoying the peaceful Egyptian night air when I noticed there were no sounds whatsoever, as if the world was holding its breath. I felt a cold and evil shiver run down my spine. Then I heard the scream. "He's awake." I said to myself fear rising in me. I ran back to the camp and saw Rick and Evy kneeling next to the book of the dead.
"Evy…"I looked at her in horror. "What have you done?" I asked the fear bubbling over into my words. Evy and Rick looked at me in confusion.
"No! You must not read from the book!" The Egyptologist yelled. I closed my eyes in pain. My only thoughts were he was awake and I was alone. Jonathan woke up from all the yelling and we huddled together. A strange buzzing noise started up. I closed my eyes.
"Locust." I croaked opening my eyes and looking at the horizon. "It's beginning." Rick looked at me before he looked to where I now pointed. A horde of flying insects.
"Run!" Rick yelled and we ran for the tunnels. The Americans ran in one direction while we ran in the other. As we ran down one of the tunnels the walls and ground began to shake and a small hill formed in our path. Suddenly the scorpion scarabs burst through the sand. "Run! Run Evy! Run Jane!" Rick yelled at us. We turned around and ran as fast as we could. "Faster Jonathan!" Rick yelled out. Finally we made our way to a bridge. Being in front I ran and jumped onto a ledge. I turned around to see that everyone else followed my example. Rick and Jonathan were on a little island of stone on the opposite side of the bridge while Evy was on the same side as me but on a different ledge. I leaned against the wall in relief and to my shock and horror I fell back into a second chamber.
It was dark and the feeling of dread washed over me. Thankfully, though, the pain was not forthcoming. I tried to sense my internal compass but to no avail. So I picked a left or right and choosing right I followed the tunnel. I was just beginning to see the light of the moon and several torches when I heard a noise come from behind me. Thinking it was one of my companions or one of the Americans I stopped and turned around. Mistake.
In front of me stood the decomposing and, as Jonathan, Rick, and Evy would put it, juicy mummy. I started to scream but he grabbed me by the throat cutting off my oxygen supply. He pushed me against the wall and began speaking to me in ancient Egyptian.
"Princess Amisi. We meet again." He smiled with rotted teeth. I cringed in disgust. "My revenge will be sweet but only when the time is right." He said his breath a foul, sickly, sweet smell that made me want to gag. But there was one small problem with that; I could barely breathe. I gasped as I struggled to take in oxygen. My hands clawed uselessly at his decaying arms. Then I heard a yell. The mummy screamed an evil laugh and in a whirl of sand was gone. I fell to the ground gasping in air like a fish out of water. My head fell to the sandy ground as black spots danced in my eyes from my near suffocation. On the ground, gasping pathetically was how my rescuer found me. In my defense I was probably going into shock.
My rescuer gingerly picked me up, gently cradling my head and carried me out of the dank tunnels and into the cool clean air of an Egyptian night. I took a deep breath ridding myself of the creature's vile stench. The arms that held me felt warm and comforting, and I never wanted to leave them. My eyes fluttered open knowing what face I would see attached to the arms; my warrior, the man from my vision. He continued to carry me oblivious to my consciousness, but it didn't really matter. I couldn't move my arms or legs. Yep definitely going into shock. I thought to myself. Without my realizing it we stopped. That's when I realized that my brother and friends were still in those tunnels with that creature. I had to do something but my muscles still wouldn't obey me.
Then I heard guns cocking and out of the corner of my eye I saw Rick and the others run out of the tunnels. I internally breathed a sigh of relief. My warrior stepped forward, me, still in his arms.
"I told you to leave or die, you refused." He said in a sad and disbelieving tone. "Now, you may have killed us all, for you have unleashed a creature we have feared for more than 3,000 years." His deep baritone voice both calmed my nerves and made my stomach roil as the meaning of his words hit me.
"Relax I got him." Rick said confidently. I felt a wave of sadness knowing that it was just a false hope no matter how many times Rick shot at him, Imhotep, yes I now knew the creature's name, would just keep coming back. "Now put…my sister…down." Rick said firmly but with that lilt to his voice that to those who knew him, was a warning that he was serious. My rescuer chose to ignore him and even slightly tightened his hold on me.
"No mortal weapon can kill this creature. He is not of this world." My warrior said voicing my fear but oddly calming me at the same time. I felt him move to the side and heard the gasps of horror that accompanied whatever they brought forth.
"You bastard."
"What did you do to him?"
I heard Henderson and Daniels say vehemently.
"We saved him. Saved him before the creature could finish its work." My rescuer said sharply. "Leave, all of you, quickly, before he finishes you all." He warned. Then he ushered orders to his men and I saw them move out form the corners of my eyes.
"We must now go on the hunt, and try to find a way to kill him." He explained.
"I told you I got him. Now I'm going to ask you one more time; put my sister down." I looked up into the face of the warrior. I saw his deep brown eyes cloud over in a silent battle within himself. He looked down at me, my eyes half lidded and, now I know for sure this time, he reluctantly handed me over to Rick, who cradled me just as gently but could not provide the warmth that my warrior could. The warmth that drove the cold and fear away. I felt my arm twitch as my muscles returned to me. I blinked my eyes and slowly maneuvered my arms.
"Rick." I croaked. "Put me down please." Rick looked overjoyed to see me conscious and without much fight helped me stand on my own two feet. I looked desperately around and saw that my warrior was still giving orders to a few men that had stayed behind.
"Hirdan?" I asked cautiously. I saw the warrior stiffen. He then turned around, his eyes boring into mine burning with questions. Outwardly he appeared only slightly interested but in his eyes I saw his mind spinning with different thoughts.
He placed a hand on his chest and with a bow he said, "My name is Ardeth. Princess." The last part he whispered so quietly that I doubt anyone else heard him. My eyes widened.
Addressing my brother he said in a loud voice that carried to everyone in our group. "Know this, this creature is the bringer of death. He will never eat, he will never sleep, and he will never stop." With one last look in my direction, his dark eyes boring into me, Ardeth entered the tunnels. My heart wanted me to go to him but my limbs shook at the thought of trying to move. It was enough that I was standing. I tried to take a step but my legs gave out and I would have fallen if Rick didn't catch me. Carrying me in front of him he motioned for the others to follow him. And we started back to our campsite.
"Rick put me down. I can walk." I said weakly. Rick just gave me a look.
I sighed but knew he was right. There was no way I could walk but it didn't mean I liked being carried around. I huffed to myself. Unless of course it was Ardeth. I stopped the small smile that was seconds away from exposing itself to the ridicule and admonishment of Rick.
We packed up our stuff and made our way back to Cairo to Fort Brydon.
So... Ardeth is Hirdan and does he know who Jane is? Imhotep seems to!
