Chapter 10: Betrayal
"I'm only going to ask once more. Please, what does Chrysalis plan to do with Night by her side?"
All Shadow Scar could do was look up at the sky and contemplate his thoughts.
"I want to tell you and I feel like I can trust you, but I can't go against mother."
At first, Sirius looked disappointed. But his disappointment slowly turned into a smile.
"I guess my question was bit much. I'm glad you think you can trust me but I don't want you to think that you will betraying the queen. Perhaps if I rephrased the question, would you be able to answer then?"
"That depends. How do you plan on rephrasing it?"
Sirius took a deep breath and his smile had vanished.
"Does Chrysalis plan on double-crossing Night?"
Shadow paused for a brief moment and thought to himself. "It's not really betraying mother. The original plan is to conquer Equestria."
Shadow Scar looked up at Sirius and gave his answer.
"Yes. Mother plans on double-crossing the dark alicorn after the original plan has succeeded. However, if things aren't looking too good inside right now, she will propose a temporary truce with your friends to help do away with him."
Sirius' eyes shoot wide open and turns his attention back to the hive.
"Oh no, this is bad."
As Sirius flies up to see how far along the battle had progressed, he notices Chrysalis lying on the ground, Trixie and Sunset Shimmer binding Flash with their magic while Discord and Luna combine theirs to turn Flash back to normal and Twilight still keeping Night's attention occupied.
"Stop dodging and fight back already!" Twilight says as she continues trying to blast Night.
Ignoring her comment, Night continues to dodge, biding time for Chrysalis to recover.
"You're going to have to better than that if you want to get me. Here's a helpful hint: Instead of aiming where I am, trying aiming where I'm going to be. You're letting your rage cloud your judgment Twilight."
Wondering why Night gave her advice, Twilight takes a deep breath and calms her mind. Focused on her target, she casts another magical blast. The blast makes contact, but to her disappointment, is blocked by Night's magic barrier.
"Good. You're a fast learner." Night says mockingly as he flies down to the ground.
"So, are you ready to fight back? You might as well be, considering we have you outnumbered."
Discord, Luna, Trixie and Sunset Shimmer all meet by Twilight's side ready to face their foe.
"You do realize that I was biding my time for Chryssie to recover."
"And I thank you for that." the changeling queen says as she gets up. "However, the odds aren't stack in your favor."
"Oh? And why is that?"
"Because I'm siding with them to do away with you. Since the original plan already backfired, the backup plan is to get rid of Equestria's biggest threat."
Just then, Sirius and Shadow Scar come flying in.
"Everyone, we need to get of here. NOW!"
"Art thou crazy father? We have thy enemy in our sights. We can-"
Before Luna can finish speaking, Night slowly floats into the air.
"So, you wish betray me as well Chrysalis? Fine. Let it be known that you brought this upon yourselves."
"Oh no. Night, you can't possibly be thinking of using that spell."
Wondering what's about to happen, Twilight quickly turns her attention to Sirius.
"What spell is he going to use?" the purple alicorn asks with a look of worry and anxiety.
"A extremely powerful dark magic spell: The Dragon Slave." Sirius quickly turns his attention to the changeling queen. "Listen, you have to get your changelings as far away from here as quickly as possible. I give you my permission to head for Canterlot, but you must go now."
Seeing how serious he was, the queen had no choice but to order the immediate evacuation of the hive.
As the changelings all evacuate, Sirius turns his attention to his friends.
"We don't have much time. Discord, how much of your power has returned?"
"Only enough to teleport myself to Canterlot. Bring everypony else along would be impossible."
"What if we combine our powers?"
"Then it might work."
"It's our only option. Luna, Twilight and Trixie, you help too. Sunset Shimmer, go grab Flash Sentry."
As Sunset Shimmer goes to retrieve Flash, Night begins charging his spell.
"Your time is up." Night says as he begins the incantation. "Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows. Buried in the stream of time is where your power grows..."
"We don't have much time, we have to hurry."
"...I pledge myself to conquer all the foes who stand, before the mighty gift bestowed in my unworthy hand. Let the fools who stand before me destroyed by the power you and I possess..."
"DRAGON SLAVE!"
"It's now or never. Let's go."
As Night finished his spell, the rest of the group vanishes, leaving him to use the spell on an empty hive.
"Yo AJ, where'd you go? You've been gone a while. And where's Fluttershy?" Rainbow Dash asks as her friend returns.
"Sorry y'all for running out like that. Just needed some time to clear my head. As for Fluttershy, she left for the market. Said something about buying a gift. What about you? Anything new happen while I was gone?"
"Not really. Playing cards got boring when you left. Pinkie Pie has been trying to keep us entertained, however, she's running out of jokes to tell. Spike fell asleep and Rarity is thinking of new ways to improve the interior design of the castle."
Just then, a small earthquake occurred and the sky was filled with a crimson red light.
"What in tarnation is going on?"
"Let's head outside and check it out." Rainbow says as she flies out to the balcony.
The rest of the girls follow behind and notice the change in the sky and the cause of the earthquake.
"Oh my. Isn't that in the direction Twilight and the others went? You don't suppose that could be over at the changeling hive?"
"Ah think it is, Rarity. But the hive super far down south. We shouldn't be able to see it from here."
"What if that explosion was a spell from Night? That is some power if we see it from up here. I hope Twilight and the others manage to get away from that."
Just as the group was about to start worrying, Princess Celestia walks out to the balcony.
"Do not worry Rainbow Dash. Twilight and the others are okay. I have just received a letter saying that they are now in Canterlot."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go meet up with them. You go on ahead Princess. We'll catch up as soon as we get Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor."
"I have already informed them and they are on their way to Canterlot. Shall we get going too?"
Shortly after, everyone makes their way for Canterlot to meet up with their friends.
"Twilight, you sent the letter to Celestia?"
"Of course, Sirius. I assume everyone will be here shortly. In the meantime, what are we to do about her?"
"Don't worry. The others are keeping a close eye on Chrysalis and her changelings."
"But how can you just give her permission to come here of all places? You do know that she attacked Canterlot by taking Cadence's identity, brainwashing my brother, and trapping me in the Canterlot Caves?"
"Of course I know. However, I needed to act fast and get her and the changelings out of the hive, and Canterlot was the most logical location to head for."
"I guess. So now what do we do?"
"We wait for Celestia and the others to arrive. Once they get here, we'll hold a meeting and talk over our next course of action. One of which is to find a new home for Chrysalis."
"Find her a home? Are you crazy? She's our enemy. Why in all of Equestria would you help her?"
"Because it's the least we can do. She is just as much as a victim to this ordeal."
"But..." Realizing Sirius had made a valid point, Twilight couldn't protest his judgment. "Okay. I may not like the idea but you are right."
"Thank you. Now, do you mind going to keep an eye out for Celestia and our friends? I will be in the castle throne room. Inform me when they arrive."
"Of course."
As Twilight leaves, Sirius heads for the throne room. On his way, he meets up with Trixie, Sunset Shimmer and Shadow Scar.
"There you are Sirius. Trixie and I were looking for you."
"Oh? Was there something you needed?"
"Actually, it's this changeling. He requested to see you."
"Shadow Scar? Very well. Come with me to the throne room. You girls come too."
"Shouldn't we keep an eye on the queen?"
"Don't worry Sunset Shimmer. Discord and Luna can handle it."
Shortly after reaching the throne room, Shadow Scar heads over to a balcony to get a view of Canterlot.
"Wow. That is quite the view."
"Indeed it is. So what was it you wanted talk to me about?"
"First, I wanted to thank you. We we're able to escape thanks to you."
"Think nothing of it. However, I should be thanking you. Your decision to trust me allowed me to react and anticipate Night's action. You saved everyone."
"And I'm happy about that. But now..."
"Now what?"
"...Now, I feel conflicted. I know you ponies are my enemy. And according to mother, we are to conquer Equestria. However, after being shown trust, I don't know how I feel about that."
"Well, what is that you want Shadow?"
After getting another good look at the city, Shadow Scar thought long and hard about it.
"I want to live here in Equestria and be a part of it all. Living in harmony with you ponies. But I also don't want to betray mother. I know it's a naive notion, but that's how I feel."
"And there's nothing wrong with that. There will come a time when the answer becomes quite clear."
"Really?"
"Of course, and I can feel that time will be soon. But for now, just stay by the queen's side."
Just then, Twilight comes barging in.
"Sirius! Celestia has arrived."
"Excellent timing Twilight. Now, bring everyone to the Palace Meeting Hall. It's about time I told everyone about my past."
Now I know most of you have questions about the spell Night used. Don't worry, it will be explained.
